WHEN PEOPLE DO BEAUTIFUL THINGS, IT IS ONLY PROPER TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE. .. ..and so, a million Thank yous to Lito Ramos of the Peace and Joy Choir of St. Martha Parish for stepping-up to the plate and coming up with the idea of having a Spring Live Bands Music Festival; as Chairperson of this Parish Spring Event, he initiated the realization of this event last May 23, 2015 and set-up the organization of those who participated in this undertaking together with Deacon Vic Tiambeng and the Parish Coordinating Committee (PCC), the Filipino and His-panic Leadership Ministries, the Parish Finance Council, Saint Martha School, the Knights of Columbus, the Peace and Joy Choir, Life Teen Office; to everyone who made this unselfish de-votion and commitment to the well-being of our parish church, your tireless effort has gener-ated $6,020.00 that will be added to our Parish Building Fund; to the nine (9) groups of Musical Bands (of course, without them it would not have been a rousing success!), who against all odds being it was a very busy Memorial Day long-weekend, Confirmation Mass in the morning, a chilly afternoon and a threatening, dark clouds hovering above, full of uncertainty (will it rain or not? But God is so kind!), the music played and the bands strum their guitars to their best music and songs to the delight and enjoyment of the crowd who braved the cold afternoon, and capped this event with dancing and laughter until 10:30pm; to the generous and faithful parish-ioners, friends of the parish, benefactors and anonymous donors, who continue to lovingly sup-port and exemplify the spirit of our patron, St. Martha, Patroness of Hospitality, once again, Thank you! Salamat! Gracias!

Safety is an important part of summer fun

Summer is almost here. School is almost out, and many new opportunities for recreation and relaxation await. Maybe you are sending your children to a music or sports camp? Or maybe they have been invited by their

friends to go camping in the mountains or at the beach? What-ever the situation, it is important to remember that parents have the responsibility of controlling access that new people will have to their children. If your child will attend a summer camp, insist that counselors or anyone else who might have access to your children have undergone an application process that in-cludes a criminal background check and reference checks. THE TRINITY IS LOVE

Theologians throughout the Christian centuries have spilled much ink (and, on occasion, some blood) in de-scribing and defining the mystery of the Holy Trinity. One of the earliest, most poetic, and beautiful descriptions comes from St. Augustine in De Trinitas, wherein he de-scribes the Trinity as One (the Father) who loves, One (the Son) who is loved, and One (the Spirit) who is love. And these three Ones are also one Three. It might be wisest for us to leave the technical wran-glings to the academic theologians, and focus on the fact that the three Persons of the Trinity are indeed persons; they are best known and understood in their love for each other and for us. We are made in the image of those lov-ing persons, and our best relationships are lived out in the context of love. Truly loving relationships are inexhausti-ble mysteries to be lived in joy. If this is true of our hu-man relationships, how much more so is it true of our re-lationship with the Trinity. And how much more does it call upon us to be joyful, loving witnesses of the holy mystery of the One‑in‑Three. This is the mystery to which we were called when we were chosen to be God’s own, baptized with water in the name of the Holy Trinity.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Next weekend all parishes through-out the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be asked to give generously to support the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. At each Mass on June 6 & 7 a second collection will be taken to benefit this impor-tant program. Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are re-tired. Over the next ten years, that

number is expected to increase significantly. With minimal compensation and little or no pension, these men often retire with nothing to fall back upon. Your contributions can change that. The Priest Retirement Fund offer us a way to give back to our Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully. Your contri-bution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peace-fully in retirement. Help us offer thanks for their years of devo-tion to God, and faithful service to our parish communities. Look for the envelopes in the pews next weekend for more in-formation. Thank you.

Muchas gracias.
