JANUARY 31, 2021 † FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Spiritual
Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my
soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from
You. Amen.

FROM OUR PASTOR
This week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. We are so blessed as a parish to have Ss. Francis and Clare of Assisi Catholic School and Roncalli High School serving our families in educating our children and youth in the ways of Faith. Thank you families, teachers and staff, and all
who help our Catholic Schools. Please check out our Art Show in the Narthex! All are invited to our Wednesday, February 3rd 6:30 am Mass for the Feast of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr for the Blessing of Throats. We will also have the Blessing of Throats at our weekend Masses on February 6 and 7. Remember to wear a mask
and follow the blue tape 6 feet markings on the floor as you come forward for the blessing. We will not be touching you with the candles this year—the ministers
will hold the candles in front of you for the blessing. Have a blessed week!
Dear Parish Family & Friends,
Peace and all good, Fr. Steve Giannini
MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS
BLESSING OF THROATS
Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi will have its annual Blessing of the Throats at Masses on Wednesday, February 3rd and before or after Saturday, February 6 & Sunday February 7 Masses.
Everyone is invited to our SCOUT MASS at 8:30 am on Sunday, February 7th. If you are a member of any of the various Boy Scout or Girl Scout troops and leaders of
scouting we hope you can join us! All parish scouts, even if you belong to a troop that meets elsewhere, are invited. Please wear your scout
uniform to Mass that day, but if you forget, that’s just fine—we want all our scouts to be recognized! Our scout troops are asking that everyone bring in food items for our Harvest Food Pantry. Your food item will be a GREAT way to honor scouts...and
help out your neighbors. The Girl Scouts will be selling GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!.

ST. NICHOLAS FUND UPDATE
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
A BIG THANK YOU to our generous parishioners who donated a total of $37,626.00 to the St. Nicholas Fund! These funds were used to purchase two new heating and cooling units—one for our Chapel, and one for our Hospitality Room. The heating and cooling units total cost was $16,442.00. The balance remaining is $21,184.00.
Staff members are now exploring options for our second project—new carpet in the LaVerna Room and the St. Mary of the Angels Room. Afterwards, we will look to purchasing the last project on the list—new blinds in the Assisi Center hallway.
Any remaining funds will be used for our ongoing capital improvements and repairs in the parish. Thank you again!

CATHOLIC QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE COVID 19 VACCINE
Some of our parishioners have reached out to our parish staff regarding the vaccine for the pandemic, and the differing information that is circulating regarding whether Catholics should receive the vaccine. · Here is an excellent website from our American Catholic Bishops regarding how Catholics should respond: https://
www.usccb.org/news/2020/us-bishop-chairmen-pro-life-and-doctrine-address-ethical-concerns-new-covid-19-vaccines.
· The Congregation for Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican also offers us this guidance: https://www.vaticannews.va/en/vatican-city/news/2020-12/vatican-cdf-note-covid-vaccine-morality-abortion.html
Both Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict received their first vaccine doses on January 13th. Let us continue to pray for the health of those who have contracted the corona virus, for all heathcare workers who are offering healing and hope, and for a speedy end to the pandemic.
CONCERNING THE COVID-19 VACCINE
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time | January 31, 2021 5
On Tuesday, March 9th our parish will remember those who have died from the corona virus and those who have suffered in any way in our prayers. We will have Adoration at 6:30 pm, right after our regularly scheduled 6 pm Mass, until 7:30 pm, concluding with Benediction. March marks the 1 year anniversary for the beginning of COVID-19 cases in Indiana, and the first death of a Hoosier. During Adoration, those who will be attending may place a candle in the sanctuary for anyone who has suffered because of the Pandemic. During Adoration, we will have a Gospel Reading and Petitions. If you are unable to attend, please consider offering on March 9th prayers for individuals, families and communities who have been impacted by the pandemic.
St. Corona, patronal saint of those suffering from the pandemic, pray for us.

ASH WEDNESDAY NEWS From the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments Protocol Number 17/21 NOTE ON ASH WEDNESDAY, Distribution of Ashes in Time of Pandemic.
On Ash Wednesday after the ashes are sprinkled with holy water, the priest says once to all: “Repent and be-lieve in the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Then instead of having ashes distributed on the forehead, “The Priest (deacon, lay person) takes the ashes and sprinkles them on the head of each one without saying anything.” So, no ashes on the forehead, but ashes sprinkled on top of your head.
Sprinkling ashes on the top of the head recalls the biblical practice of putting on “sackcloth and ashes” as an act of penance.
“On the twenty-fourth day of this month, the Israelites gathered together while fasting and wearing sackcloth, their heads covered with dust” (Neh 9:1.)
While the custom in the United States of America has been to mark the forehead with a cross, sprinkling the ashes on the head has been used for centuries and remains the custom in Spain and Italy. However the ashes are received, the interior repentance expressed by this exterior act is at the heart of the action.
K—4 ART SHOW During Catholic Schools Week, January 30 - Feb. 5, our Kindergarten through 4th grade students will be displaying their art work in the Narthex. We hope everyone can take a moment to admire their work.

SONGS FOR MASS
Table Song Refrain: We are body of Christ, Broken and poured out,
Promise of life from death, we are the body of Christ. Is not the bread of life we break a sharing in the life of God? Is not the cup of peace outpoured the blood of Christ?(refrain) How shall we make a return to God, for goodness unsurpassing? This saving cup we shall hold high, and call out God’s name! (refrain) Unless a grain of wheat shall fall upon the earth, It shall remain a single grain; But if it dies, it will come to life! (refrain) Come taste and see the goodness, the wonders of the risen one! Come bless our God, in all things, let praise be our song!(refrain)
The Church’s One Foundation The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is his new creation by water and the Word. From heav’n he came and sought her to be his holy bride; With his own blood he brought her, And for her life he died. Elect from ev’ry nation, yet on o’er all the earth; Her charter of salvation: One Lord, one faith, one birth. One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses with ev’ry grace endued. Yet she on earth has union with God, the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O blessed hev’nly chorus! Lord, save us by your grace that we, like saints before us, May see you face to face.
We Cannot Measure How You Heal We cannot measure how you heal or answer ev’ry suff’rer’s prayer, Yet we believe your grace responds where faith and doubt unite to care. Your hands, though bloodied on the cross, survive to hold and heal and warm, to carry all through death to life and cradle children yet unborn. The pain that will not go away, the guilt that clings from things long past, The fear of what the future holds, are present as if meant to last. But present too is love, which tends the hurt we never hoped to find, The private agonies inside, the memories that haunt the mind. So some have come who need your help, and some have come to make amends. As hands which shaped and saved the world are present in the touch of friends. Lord, let your Spirit meet us here to mend the body, mind, and soul, to disentangle peace from pain, and make your broken people whole.
Healer of Every Ill
Refrain: Healer of our ev’ry ill, light of each tomorrow, Give us peace beyond our fear And hope beyond our sorrow. You who know our fears and sadness, Grace us with your peace and gladness. Spirit of all comfort, fill our hearts. (refrain) In the pain and joy, beholding How your grace is still unfolding, Give us all your vision, God of love. (refrain) Give us strength to love each other, Ev’ry sister, ev’ry brother. Spirit of all kindness, be our guide. (refrain) You who know each thought and feeling, Teach us all yoru way of healing. Spirit of compassion, fill each heart. (refrain)

One of our sixth grade boys groups had fun last week reviewing the life of Jesus. They moved around their classroom and reenacted many different scenes from the Gospels. Our small groups grow together in faith and knowledge throughout the school year. They are led by teams of adults, young adults, and high school students who are dedicated to walk-ing with young people in their faith journeys. Thank you to all of our small group leaders!
