What Is Online Recruitment? By Patricia Telesco, eHow Contributor

Online recruitment is growing in popularity among job seekers and employers alike.

In the face of an employer's market employment wise, as of 2010, both employers and job seekers have begun to use online recruitment far more than in previous years. The whole concept behind Internet recruitment is finding the right people for the right jobs by using a variety of online tools. Generally online recruiting produces far more applications than other forms of advertising. That response, however, doesn't mean the effort was successful or without any inherent problems.

When you have a good online recruiting system it includes enough technology to both attract candidates and then interact with themthrough the entire placement process. Many of the best systems use screening and tests with specific questions that help categorize and qualify the candidates, followed by ranking.

The Advantages of Online Recruitment

The Definition of Online Recruitment

1. Benefits for Companies

o Besides using online recruitment to weed out inappropriate candidates and isolate those with the best potential, there are many advantages to a company engaging an Internet-based recruiter. They get to fish in a large proverbial pool of candidates, not just fromacross the United States, but sometimes even the world. The downside here is the time involved in sorting through all those possible candidates can become burdensome.

The second benefit is the possibility of filling a job opening in as little as a few hours. When a company needs someone even on a temporary basis, that time savings is significant, and it also saves money. The financial benefits extend beyond the speed of online recruiting to the pre-selection element that gives human resource departments a huge advantage over companies using more conventional methods.

If a company chooses, pre-selection may be custom-automated to narrow the field of candidates for interviews. By having this type of system in place, youhandle each candidate exactly the same way. Consistencycounts. Once finished, the data from that process becomes a ready, searchable database that you can keep for several months (most companies maintain it for six months as they would any application).

2. Benefits for Candidateso From candidates' perspective, online recruitment allows

them to fill out applications, post resumes, and take qualifying tests from the comfort of home. They can enact job searches any time of day or night, not just during business hours. Additionally they can go back toreview the status of an application on many job recruitment sites.

However, some job seekers find the Internet job search too impersonal. They prefer to go to a potential place

of employment and meet one-on-one so there's a face to put with a name. If the online recruiting software takes a long time to fill out, or if it's not user-friendly, that will also deter some job seekers. As a general rule, the e-community wants speed and ease, notan hour of grueling steps for an interview that may never come.

3. What to Expecto If you're using online recruiting to help find an

employee or a job, there are some things you can expect. As the potential employer, you will pay a fee for this service. The amount of the fee depends on how specific the recruitment process gets. Most companies offer a variety of options, one of which is sure to suit your corporate budget and your needs. If your firmhas regular openings, it might be best to enter into a one-year contract with a recruiting firm, which can then really get to know your corporate culture while looking for prospective employees.

For the job seeker, an effective online recruiter will want to see your resume and may even have a special resume tool to make your paperwork look better for possible employers. Depending on the position for whichyou're applying, there may be tests to prove your proficiencies. You will also likely be asked to providepersonal and professional references. However, you should not pay anything to apply for a job. Companies that require upfront money from job seekers are often scams. Also be cautious of blind recruitment ads. These

can be placed by bots who are simply collecting personal information that's used for spam. Finally, realize that the online service can only do so much foryou. Keep pounding the pavement, networking and readingads.

4. Dos and Don'tso When you're working with an Internet recruiter, keep

your resume or curriculum vita up-to-date. Also keep the recruitment company apprised of jobs that you personally apply for outside its service. This way yourmaterial won't be presented twice to the same potentialemployer (this can cause a conflict and leave you out of the running altogether).

If you have any questions or concerns about a posted job, ask before submitting your resume. Companies really appreciate when you focus your job search to those positions for which you're truly qualified.

On the don't side: Never give out personal information. No online recruitment agency should ask for credit information, for example. If they do, they better have a very good explanation for it. Any company that requires such information to hire you can gather it when you interview in person. And again, remember that agencies should not ask for retainers or fees from you.

5. Final Decisiono If you decide to go with an online recruiting company,

do your homework. Research several firms to find one that has solid consumer reviews, a long history and that really fits your needs. Every placement company has specialties, so you want to focus on one that comesclosest to the job opening in your company or your skill set as a job seeker. Then make a few calls and talk to several possible recruiters, and ask to review the paperwork required before making your final decision.

In this post we present the recruiting system, available with Easypromos Premium and White Label. This recruiting system allowsyou to choose the promotion or contest winner based on the numberof new participants that the promotion users have obtained.

Easypromos administrators already had access to recruitment statistics of the promotions which allowed him/her to know the number of new fans and new users recruited by each participant. With the new recruiting system, the administrator can make this information public and therefore increase the types of promotionsand contests that can be created with Easypromos.

Now we will explain how the system works, in the form of FAQs.

What is a recruited user?

A recruited user is one who has accepted an invitation from a participant and filled in the entry form.

Is the recruiting system compatible with current Facebook guidelines?

This system is 100% compatible with Facebook guidelines. Facebookprohibits directly encouraging the use of its social channels. For example, you cannot award points to, or choose winners from among, those who have most often shared the promotion on their walls or sent the most invitations. However, Facebook does allow you to award participants who have recruited new users through their invitations.

Is it compatible with mobile devices?

Yes, the Easypromos recruiting system is 100% compatible with allmobile devices supported by the Facebook platform: iPhone, iPad, iPod and Android.

Is a recruited user the same as a new fan?

No, a recruited user is one who enters the promotion after receiving an invitation from another participant. However, we recommend making it a requisite that in order to enter a promotion a user should not only fill in the entry form, but alsobecome a fan of your page.

For example: a user sends an invitation to a friend to enter the promotion but this friend is already a fan of the page. If the friend accepts the invitation and enters the promotion, they willbe counted as a recruited user, but they will not be counted a new fan.

What type of contests can be carried out with the recruiting system?

The recruiting system expands the possibilities for promotions created with Easypromos. We will now show some typical examples of how to use it:

The winner is selected from among all the participants who have recruited a minimum number of users to the promotion.

A promotion is a carried out, in which the participants compete to be the one who has recruited the highest number of users.

A sweepstakes is held among all participants, in which the share of entries is given according to the number of recruits obtained.

What is the main benefit of the recruiting system?

The three main benefits of the recruiting system are:

1. Increase in the organic virality of the promotion: as in the case of voting contests, the participants themselves have the task of finding new users to enter the pr0motion.

2. Database of recruits: a user becomes a recruit by filling in the entryform. Unlike in a voting contest, the recruited users accept the rules of the contest and provide their details in order to enter.

3. Increase in number of fans: to complete the entry form the users must first ‘like’ the page that is holding the contest.

How can a participant recruit their friends?

Upon completion of the entry form all participants obtain a unique URL with which to invite their friends. This URL leads to the home page of the promotion and incorporates recruiter information (tracking information), which allows the application to update the recruiter’s account when the user they have invitedenters the promotion.

In addition, when a user accesses the promotion via the invite URL, tracking cookies are activated which allow the recruiter’s information to be stored during 48 hours. This means that if a user accesses the promotion through an invitation, but they don’tenter at that moment, they will have 48 hours to enter and be included as a recruited user.

How can you send invitations in order to recruit users?

The application offers various mechanisms to make recruiting friends easy and straightforward. Upon finalizing the entry process, a page with the unique invite URL will appear. This URL can be shared via the following methods:

1. Posting the URL on the Facebook wall2. Sending a Facebook (request) invitation3. Sending a private message to the INBOX of a Facebook user4. Publishing the invitation on Twitter

In addition, the user can copy the unique URL and use it in any online medium to share it beyond Facebook or Twitter. For exampleby email, or on other social networks, blogs, forums, websites, and so on.

How to invite and recruit friends to enter

Can participants consult the users they have recruited?

Yes, participants can access the promotion and in the list of participants they will see all the recruited users. In addition, a progress bar will be displayed if the administrator has defineda minimum number of users to be obtained. Easypromos also allows you to order the participants by the number of users they have recruited.

Recruited users by participant

How does the administrator set up and activate the recruiting system?

The recruiting system is enabled by default in all Premium and White Label promotions. Recruitment information is always available in the administration panel, so that it is always possible to obtain statistics regarding the number of users recruited by participants.

From the control panel the administrator has the option to enable/disable the option of making the recruiting system information public. They have two options:

Publish the recruited users: Upon activation, a list of users recruited by each one of the participants will be shown in the entries page. It also activates the option of being able to order the participants according to the number of users recruited.

Minimum number of recruits: The administrator can set a target that participating users must reach. This option will indicate the progress of the recruiting activity of each participant.

Can the administrator modify the default messages of publications when a participant invites and shares in order to recruit?

Yes, from the control panel the administrator can modify the title and description of Facebook posts when the user shares their invite URL. It is also possible to customize the tweet content.

How does a new user know if they are being recruited by another participant when they enter the promotion?

When a user accepts an invitation to enter from another user, they will be directed to the promotion home page where they will see the name and photo of the friend they have been recruited by.In this way the social aspect of the promotion is increased and people are encouraged to take part.
