Has Sachin Vaze become a tool to destroy the ruling party leaders?

with Matoshree increased, and he gained the confidence of the party chief Uddhav Thackeray by playing important roles in the party. He also played a key role in the party’s election strategies for the Lok Sabha and the state assembly polls in 2019. In December 2019, Thackeray sidelined the senior leaders and offered the ministerial berth to Parab. Since then, he has emerged as the troubleshooter for the party and has been attacking the BJP over several issues.

The party leadership consults Parab on all-important matters, such as issues of housing, legal, BMC, governance, and anything else which is of significance to the party. Due to the crucial role he has been playing since his induction into the state cabinet in 2019 and because of his loyalty to the Thackeray's, Parab has often found himself in the line of attack by the Opposition.

Days after the resignation of Anil Deshmukh as Home Minister following a CBI inquiry directed by the Bombay High Court into the corruption allegations leveled by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, another minister of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, Anil Parab has been embroiled in a controversy over corruption allegations leveled by the arrested Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze. Sachin Vaze (assistant police inspector) who is the prime accused in the Antilia bomb scare has written a letter to the NIA court accusing Anil Deshmukh and Anil Parab of ransom.

In his handwritten letter, Vaze has claimed that NCP chief Sharad Pawar was against his reinstatement into Mumbai Police in 2020 and wanted it to be revoked. It was to this that Deshmukh had told him to pay Rs 2 crores. He also claimed that Anil Parab had asked him to squeeze 2 crores each from 50 contractors associated with the BMC.

officers to arrest Union Minister Narayan Rane. Parab, the guardian minister of Ratnagiri, was in a press conference during which he broke off to have two phone conversations. During his second call, which was made apparently to a police officer, was heard demanding Rane’s arrest.

Soon after Rane’s arrest, Parab was asked to appear before the ED. But there was no clarity as of now on why Parab has been summoned. The Maharashtra minister has been under the scanner after former Mumbai Police Officer Sachin Waze, in a letter he tried to submit to the NIA court had claimed that Parab had asked him to carry out extortion to the tune of Rs 50 crore from a private trust. He also alleged that Parab told him to look into the inquiry against the fraudulent Contractors listed in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and asked him to Collect “at least Rs 2 crore” from about 50 such contractors.

A suspended motor vehicle inspector of the Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) Gajendra Patil had also accused Parab and six officers of corruption, amounting to multiple crores, in connection with transfers and postings in the RTO.

Parab gained prominence in 2017 after the Shiv Sena and BJP broke the alliance and fought the Mumbai civic elections separately. During the elections, Parab countered all the attacks of the BJP, including its attempt to corner Sena over the allegations of corruption in BMC.

Within months, Parab was named as the party’s group leader in the legislative council by sidelining senior party leaders. Over the years, Parab’s closeness

called out the BMC for their gross inep t i tude - under t ak ing infrastructural projects that are

disproportionately more expensive, slower, and inferior in quality than any prevailing standards, ultimately leading to accidents and deaths in Mumbai.

“Our condolences go out to the family of the victim, and it infuriates us to be faced, repeatedly, by the fatal recklessness of the Shiv Sena regime and the BMC administration. Despite costing more than 2.7 times a comparable project in Delhi, the shoddy construction of the flyover has already caused a fatal accident. Aaditya Thackeray took the credit for the flyover, will he also take the credit for the deaths it is causing?" said Preeti Sharma Menon, AAP National Executive Member & Mumbai Prabhari.

It is common knowledge that the BMC spends the lion's share of their capital budget on road infrastructure, allocating 2400 crores and 1600 crores for road and bridges in 2020 and 2021 respectively; and having spent 21,000 crores on Mumbai's roads in 24 years. However, with the share of funds that are actually utilized instead of remaining on paper; the BMC spends blindly & recklessly, and with no accountability for scheduled deadlines or quality - leaving the civic body with unjustifiably inflated spending, substandard work, and no sense of responsibility for the accidents and deaths it is causing.

Letters to the

editorCovid-19 is here to stay

Every day, thousands of people get affected with Coronavirus, not just in India but all over the world. But in spite of getting affected, they do not follow Covid-19 rules that has been imposed by the government. They take things very lightly and feel that Covid-19 will not affect them or their family members. This is ridiculous! They should realise that Covid-19 has taken away the lives of many people in the last 20 months. Some people have even lost both their parents and many children have even become orphaned. Covid-19 is here to stay just like tuberculosis, AIDs and cancer. It will not go away. So, taking precautions is the safest way of not getting infected by the virus.

A golden beamAvani Lekhara has emerged as the

first woman to clinch an Olympic gold in a shooting event. This is a Paralympic gold medal but the metal shines the same like any Olympic gold. In her words “I am feeling like I'm on top of the world”, the country too feels the same. We have garlanded our

Olympic medal winners with truck full of gifts and cash prizes, I hope the government will lose its purse strings for our Paralympians too. With 7 medals so far, the Paralympians have proved that they are no less than our Olympians. Avani Lekhara will be shooting it out in two more events, the mixed 10m air rifle and 50m rifle. India hopes that her kitty jingles with more medals. India is so proud of her.

Courage to take drastic actionAt least 170 people have been killed

in two bomb blasts at Kabul airport by Islamic State militants. It included 13 US troops. Just hours after the US president announced that "the attack will be avenged", the US drone strike on the Islamic State of Afghanistan (ISAF) base in Khurasan killed the terrorist who was the mastermind of the attack. The United States has said no civilians were killed in the attack. The United States has claimed that a number of terrorists, including the mastermind, were killed. Why can't India do what America can do? When will India show the courage to take drastic action to eradicate terrorism?

Terrorist attackFollowing the terrorist attacks on the

Twin Towers in the United States on September 11, 2001, America

immediately declared war on Al Qaeda. Thousands of rockets were fired at Israel from the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Israel then quickly launched airstrikes on Hamas bases for several days. Israel's air strikes stopped when Hamas surrendered. Whether it was a terrorist attack on France or an attack on St. Petersburg in Russia, the authorities there not only identified the terrorist organization concerned and warned it, but also responded swiftly, but unfortunately it doesn't happen in India. The army was not ordered to attack Pakistan after the terrorist attack on Mumbai. The same part of the Kandahar hijacking. The Indian Army wanted to kill the terrorists by 'commando action'; But it is unfortunate that it did not get the order.

Liquor should have common rate throughout country to prevent

inter-state smugglingDuring corona-lockdowns, several

states including Delhi imposed special corona-tax on liquor after long queues were witnessed at liquor-shops were opened during lockdown evidently to fill gap in tax-collection to some extent where liquor-sale accounts for 15-25 percent of total tax collection in a state. But such levying corona-levy differently in different states resulted in inter-state smuggling of liquor with

liquor being smuggled from states with less liquor-tax to states with higher liquor-tax. Even in so-called dry states, liquor is freely available due to inter-state smuggling of liquor.

Since consumption of liquor is not good for health and family-life, GST council should rationalize GST rate-structure for appreciable increase in GST. Appreciable increase in revenue-earning through GST on liquor can be utilized to reduce GST on other commodities or even having simple two-tier GST structure of 10 and 30 percent with additional slabs in multiples of 50-percent abolishing system of cess. It is time that all petroleum products including petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG may also be brought under GST to have common and uniform rates throughout the country.

Cases booked on Govinda leaders

he Mumbai Police are on Tthere way and have started issuing notices to

Dahi Handi Mandal and Govinda Federations. A former MLA of MNS Bala Nandgaonkar and several others were detained in Mumbai for defying the ban on Dahi Handi celebrations.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray On August 23 has said that the government will not grant permission for Dahi Handi celebrations across the state. He has requested all organizers to prioritize the health of the people amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The BJP and the MNS had criticized the MahaVikasAghadi government for imposing a ban on Dahi Handi celebrations in the state and had said that they would defy the orders. Condemning this demo Govinda sport were o r g a n i z e d b y M N S . N a n d g a o n k a r r e a c h e d Kalachowkie Maidan where he participated in the breaking of the Dahi Handi and was subsequently arrested by the Mumbai Police. The MNS held similar celebrations in Dadar, Mankhurd, Mulund, Worli Naka and Malabar Hill. The activists were later detained.

“The state is allowing political

rallies to take place but is putting a ban on Hindu festivals. I want to question them as to why are these guidelines being imposed only on festivities. Does the Covid virus take a break when political rallies occur” MNS chief Raj Thackeray today cleared his stand conferencing Media News and Services. The Mumbai and Thane police have served notices to many Dahi Handi mandals asking them not to organize the event on Tuesday as it may lead to the spread of Covid-19. Thane Police commissioner Jai Jeet Singh said “About 200 mandals have been issued notices. We appeal to all not to break any government rule. Otherwise, we will be constrained to take legal action.”

I t i s not new that a p ro p a g a n d a p o l i t i c s i s happening on the Festive sport issue. 10 years back when Bala Nadgaonkar's Govinda Pathak

had triumphed the Bhartiya Vidyarthi Sangh challenge handi at Shivaji Park near ShivSena Bhavan. Eye brows were raised as he came on the dice of Shivsena's student wing. The Challenge handi had a cash prize by the hands of the S h i v s e n a S u p r e m o B a l T h a c k e re y a t M a t o s h r i bungalow. Thackerey refuted this action and said 'I don't meet conversionists'. Ever year Mumbai like Ganpati and Navratri is waiting for this brave sport day. As Dahi Kala Utsav has got a glamour now in and across the State.

This year fresh notices have been served under Section 149 (police to prevent cognizable offences) of CrPC.47 to Dahi Handi Mandals.” FIR cases are been filed for breach of police notices and breaching dignity of State orders and causing a threat to public as offensive to the health of society and legal bodies.

Highcourt questions State government

Special [email protected]

ombay High Court Bquested the Maharashtra government today and

asked it to respond within ten days as to why it has not yet set up civil defense centers in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts which are prone to natural calamities. Divisional bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni were hearing a PIL filed by Sharad Raul a 65-year-old retired revenue official from Ratnagiri seeking the establishment of civil defense centers in the two districts.

The court observed that both districts had witnessed several natural calamities in the recent past and that “better and more timely rescue services” could have been provided to the citizens if the centers had been functional. PIL was filed by lawyer Rakesh Bhatkar which said six districts were declared 'multi hazardous areas' in 2011 and directions were issued to set up civil defense centers in these coastal districts. While the centers have already come up in Mumbai, Raigad, Palghar and Thane, they have not yet been established in Ratnagiri or Sindhudurg, the petitioner says tha t h i s rep re sen ta t ion submitted in April 2018 elicited

n o r e s p o n s e f r o m t h e authorities which prompted him to move the high court.

“What is the purpose of the law if the centers are yet to be set up in some of the most vulnerable districts?” advocate Bhatkar asked and sought an expedited decision on the matter. As per the Plea the centers which are to be set up under the Civil Defense Act 1968, would provide an assistance and protection to individuals and properties against any 'hostile attack' or natural calamities such as cyclones, earthquake, flooding, fire or explosion, among others. Directing the Home secretary to file an affidavit in reply within ten days the court said it will hear the PIL again in two weeks.

Sindhudurg once a part of Ratnagiri was divided from it and is declared a Tourism district in Maharashtra. The Raigad district was once called Kulaba was given the name as Raigad as the King of forts dwells here. The 3 districts were worstly hit by two consecutive cyclones 2020 Nisarg and this year Tauktae sea twister.

UPA Slams Centre on Jalianwala BaghPA leaders like Rahul UGandhi and Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday

termed the government's revamp of the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial as an "insult to martyrs" saying only a person who does not know the meaning of martyrdom can inflict such insult. Renovation of Jallianwala Bagh where more than a thousand people died 102 years ago has come under fire with historians accusing the planners of 'Disneying' the monument.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted "Only those who do not know the meaning of martyrdom can inflict such an insult on the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh. I am the son of a martyr I will not

tolerate the insult of martyrs at any cost We are against this indecent cruelty."

Mostly the criticism is for retouching the narrow alley leading to the Bagh. The narrow lane which was blocked by British soldiers making it impossible for anyone to escape from the Bagh on that horrific day now has a shiny new floor. Besides this it has been partially covered to keep the birds from sitting on the sculptures.

CPM leader Sitaram Yechury a l s o t o o k o n t h e B J P government saying "Only those who stayed away from the epic f r e e d o m s t r u g g l e c a n scandalize thus. Insulting our martyrs. Jallianwala Bagh massacre of Hindus Muslims

Sikhs who gathered together for Baisakhi galvanized our freedom struggle. Every brick here permeated the horror of British rule. Only those who stayed away from the epic f r e e d o m s t r u g g l e c a n scandalize thus" Yechury tweeted.

ShivSena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said the revamp was doing "great damage to our collective history. The pain was real, the loss was immense and the tragedy was unforgettable. Sometimes the places evoke pain & serve as a reminder to what we lost & what we fought for. Trying to 'beautify' or 'modify' those memories is doing great damage to our collective history," she tweets.

"It is our own international media platform, a key part of our collective effort to show what Taiwan has to offer " Presidency said.

Afghan govt to be formed in days: Pakistan foreign minister

fghanistan will form a Agovernment within days, Pakistan's foreign

minister said on Tuesday, after weeks of uncertainty following the Taliban's conquest of the country.

"We expect that a consensus government will be formed in the coming days in Afghanistan," Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a news conference in Islamabad.

Celebratory gunfire resounded across Kabul on Tuesday as Taliban fighters took control of the airport before dawn, af ter the withdrawal of the last US troops, marking the end of a 20-year war that left the Islamist militia

stronger than it was in 2001.S h a k y v i d e o f o o t a g e

distributed by the Taliban showed fighters entering the airport after the last US troops flew out on a C-17 aircraft a minute before midnight, ending a hasty and humiliating exit for Washington and its NATO allies.

"It is a historical day and a historical moment," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a news conference at the airport after the troops left. "We are proud of these moments, that we liberated our country from a great power."

An image from the Pentagon taken with night-vision optics

showed the last U.S. soldier to step aboard the final evacuation flight out of Kabul - Major General Chris Donahue, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division.

America's longest war took the lives of nearly 2,500 US troops and an estimated 240,000 Afghans, and cost some $2 trillion.

Although it succeeded in driving the Taliban from power and stopped Afghanistan being used as a base by al Qaeda to attack the United States, it ended with the hardline Islamist militants controlling more territory than during their previous rule.

Sri Lanka declares food emergency as forex crisis worsensri Lanka on Tuesday Sdeclared a state of emergency over food

shortages as private banks ran out of foreign exchange to finance imports.

With the country suffering a hard-hitting economic crisis, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said he ordered emergency regulations to counter the hoarding of sugar, rice and other essential foods.

Rajapaksa has named a top army officer as "Commissioner General of Essential Services to coordinate the supply of paddy, rice, sugar and other consumer goods".

The move followed sharp price rises for sugar, rice, onions and potatoes, while long queues have formed outside stores because of shortages of milk powder, kerosene oil and cooking gas.

The government has increased penalties for food hoarding, but the shortages come as the country of 21 million battles a fierce coronavirus wave that is claiming more than 200 lives a day.

The economy shrank by a record 3.6 percent in 2020 because of the pandemic and in March last year the government banned imports of vehicles and other items, including edible

oils and turmeric, an essential spice in local cooking, in a bid to save foreign exchange.

Importers still say they have been unable to source dollars to pay for the food and medicines they are allowed to buy.

Two weeks ago, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka increased interest rates in a bid to shore up the local currency.

Sri Lanka's foreign reserves fell to $2.8 billion at the end of

July, from $7.5 billion in November 2019 when the government took office and the rupee has lost more than 20 percent of its value against the US dollar in that time, according to bank data.

Energy minister Udaya Gammanpila has appealed to motorists to use fuel sparingly so that the country can use its foreign exchange to buy essential medicines and vaccines.

Palestinian groups slam Abbas' meeting with Israeli defense minister

alest inian resistance Pfactions on Monday condemned a recent

meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

Abbas on Sunday held talks with Gantz in the West Bank city of Ramallah, in the first official meeting between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Israeli government since 2014.

Such meetings “will deepen the Palestinian division and complicate the Palestinian

situation,” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in a statement.

He said Sunday's meeting “was a continuation of the PA delusion of the possibility of achieving something to our people through the failed settlement path”.

Islamic Jihad spokesman Tareq Selmi described Abbas-Gantz meeting as a “stab”.

The meeting “came at a time when the Israeli forces are continuing their attacks on Gaza and maintaining its years-long blockade on the territory,” he said.

"The blood of [Palestinian] children killed by the [Israeli] occupation army upon orders from Gantz is still on the ground and has not dried yet," Selmi said.

Instagram asking users' birth date to enforce child safety measuresn a bid to make the platform Isafer for i t s younger audience, the Facebook-

owned Instagram is asking users to supply their date of birth.

The company said that it will allow them to create new safety features for young people and will help in ensuring that the company is providing the right experiences to the right age group.

“We have been clear that we want to do more to create safer, more private experiences for young people. To do that we need to know how old everybody is on Instagram, so, we have started asking people to share their birthday with us if they have not shared it previously,” Pavni Diwanji, VP of Youth Products, said in a blogpost.

This information also allows the platform to personalise user experience, for example, they can apply recent changes they made to restrict advertiser targeting options for audiences under the age of 18, to more people.

“This work began a few years ago when we started asking people for their birthday. While we have birthdays for most people on Instagram, to get a

more complete picture we are introducing two new changes. These changes only apply to people who have not already shared their birthday,” the company said.

“First, we will start to ask you for your birthday when you open Instagram. We will show you a notification a handful of times and if you have not provided us with your birthday by a certain point, you will need to share it to continue using Instagram. This information is necessary for new features we are developing to protect young people,” it added.

“Second, if you see warning screens placed on posts, we'll ask you for your birthday before you can see the post,” according to the company.

T h e c o m p a n y i s a l s o developing new systems to recognise if the user has shared correct or incorrect birth date.

Senior Citizens Who Deserve To Be Given A Place Of PridePAY RESPECT FOR PENSIONERS

o hassles or long Nwaits. No procedural delays

either. It is pension sans tension. Those who avail the government’s old age pension find dealing with the banks finding it hard to break the ice. Senior citizens who deserve to be given a place of pride are considered as Trouble Shooters in the society. Somehow, they are being sidelined for no fault of theirs.

The moment they enter the premises of a bank, officials and bank staff feel they will have to face a lot of trouble in helping the old people out for fulfilling the formalities. They forget that customers are kings and pensioners are the backbone of the banking industry. Why then is such a step motherly treatment meted out to the elederly? A moot point is that the government has to shoulder the additional financial burden required for the pension revision of its employees, which is usually done by adjusting the tax rates which increases their revenue to meet this additional expenditure. Thus, government pensions have to be funded by the taxpaying public.

Each and every bank

should have a Pensioner's Grievances Cell headed by not less than a Grade III Officer and supported by Grade- I Officer and assistant to address pensioners problems. Such a Cell should be housed on a ground floor building as pensioners are not in a position to climb the staircase when the lift services are not available and some of the seniors are scared to use the lift fearing breakdown.

Government has given all the required help to make the pension scheme a success. Considering the age and trauma experienced by these pensioners, the need for having a cell, which will look after only the grievances of the pensioners should be functioning soon with all the infrastructure. After all, today's bank officer too is going to become tomorrow's pensioner. According to bank unions,

basic pension for bank retirees has not been revised for almost two decades though inflation went up 10 times.

Salaries in public banks are far less attractive than in private banks. The only consolation is the provision of pension which too has now been reduced to a measly sum. This logic doesn’t meet the test set out in several judicial

pronouncements as also the stipulations of several publicly recognized welfare codes for senior citizens. The government has paid little heed to their worsening service conditions. While there have been paltry raises in salaries, there has been virtual stagnation in pensions for over two decades particularly when inflation has been soaring to such high levels.

But ironically, pension does not form part of this contractual arrangement. This is where the parallel between the government sector and the banking sector ends. During the signing of the 10th bipartite settlement with the staff unions of banks, the Indian Banks Association clarified that as banks do not have any contractual liability towards the pensioners, the demand for revision of pension along with salary revision cannot be accepted.

Most banks are already making provisions for pensions by setting apart portions of their profit towards pension reserves. Thus, in the case of bank employees, pension is paid without any outgo of revenue on part of banks or government, as such payment is made out of the reserves. This reserve represents money, property, and deferred wages of employees that are held in trust by the banks themselves. In the case of the State Bank of India, the trustees of its Pension Fund have over the years built an adequate corpus for meeting future pension obligations. It is considered sufficient to meet pension liabilities for a long future.

It is indeed high time that pension revision for senior citizens be taken care of, so that the pension pay goes as per inflation level in a society where survival is for the fittest. With medical claim policy premiums touching a new high and the merger of banks caused a mix up in the identity of the ex staff, the senior citizens should be given pride of place and the pensioners a place in the society.

A moot point is that the government has to shoulder the additional financial burden required for the pension revision of its employees, which is usually done by adjusting the tax rates which increases their revenue to meet this additional expenditure. Hindus should boycott the films and their sponsors for glorifyingthe barbaric Mughal invaders - Advocate Subhash Jha, Supreme Court

ollywood people are Bafraid of making films on seats of

worship of the Muslims because they are scared of facing strong opposition or even death. If they realise that Hindus might

harm them if their seats of worship were attacked, they would stop making films against Hindus. All Hindus should, however, unite and boycott such films and all products manufactured by the

sponsors of these films. They should be strongly opposed; only in that case, Bollywood would take notice of the same. Hindus must keep on trying and educate other Hindus in this regard, stated the Supreme Court advocate Subhash Jha, while speaking in an online special discussions program held by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on the topic of ‘The Empire: Glorification of barbaric Islamic invaders’

Mr Neeraj Atri, the executive President of ‘Vivekananda Karya samiti’ said that a web series is shown at the time when construction of Ram Mandir has started. It is not a coincidence but it is a conspiracy, Earlier, people used to forcefully convert others using their swords. Now, modern techniques like web series are used for this purpose.

We should also give an apt reply to their false propaganda in their language by doing our homework properly. Only then, Muslim directors like Kabir Khan would not dare to openly say that Mughals were the nation builders. There are people of jihadi and communist mentalities in central education institutes, censor board and many such places. We need to have Hindutva based politics as advised by Swatantryaveer Savarkar so that people will know the truth.

Sanatan Sanstha’s ‘Dharmapracharak’ Abhay Vartak said that Islamic invaders have been glorified in films right from ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ to ‘the Empire’. Earlier, there were people who were tilted towards the Mughals and even now, they are alive. Babar, who demolished several Hindu temples including Ram Mandir, was

a descendent of Taimur Lang. He was not a human being but a beastly animal. Today, an actor like Saif Ali khan is naming his son after Taimur which shows his mentality. Taliban can attack India in future. At such time, web series like ‘the Empire’ is shown to motivate people supporting the Talibanis in India.

Mr Anand Jakhotia, State Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti for Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan said that when five main gangs were active in India like Karim Lala, Dawood etc, in all films a don always used to be shown as a Hindu; means Hindus were shown as criminals A character played by Amitabh Bacchan like ‘Vijay’, doesn’t go to temples; but he is Saved by a badge of ‘786’. The same mentality is present even now in Bollywood.
