• Terhidrolisa dalam asam kuat sehingga kekuatannya turun

• Oksidator (misalnya bleaching agent) berlebih menghasilkan oksiselulosa kerusakan serat

• Menggembung dalam larutan alkali proses merserisasi untuk meningkatkan kilau dan daya serap serat terhadap zat warna.
