1. Message from Mr. Nicholas Forde, Secondary Principal

Thank you to all parents who attended yesterday’s ‘virtual’ Back to School Night. As we continue

to build a culture of care, guidance and achievement in Secondary, you will notice the high profile

of our Grade Level Leaders at Back to School Night. Our focus on pastoral care and well-being

instead of curriculum matters at the beginning of the year is deliberate. Without strong

relationships, effective learning cannot take place. Curriculum and assessment matters are taken

up in context for different Grade Levels and at an individualized level via Parent Teacher Student

Conferences from October onwards.

Today marks the ‘end of the beginning’ with the completion of the first 10-day cycle of the

Secondary timetable. This period is critical for students, as it is where they will ‘find their level’

based on what they experience in their first few lessons. Every year, we emphasize the

importance of teachers taking time to get to know the students, their names, and to communicate

clearly their expectations and establish lesson routines. Above all, we will communicate that we

care for our students through what we say and how we say it. Great learning only happens once

students see and know that they have a trusted adult who cares about and is interested in them

as a person.

2. Important Reminders

2.1. Uniform Matters

No mixing of old and new uniform or PHE kit and uniform

Black shoes should be worn with new school uniform only

New uniform polo shirt should only be worn with long pants or skorts

Students should only be wearing new PHE / House kit or old PHE kit (NOT old House

shirt) for PHE

PHE kit can be worn on the days when students have PHE and / or a sports-based Hao

Xue course or a sports-based CCA

2.2. Students Staying at School after Dismissal

Students are not allowed to remain at school after the specified dismissal time unless they

have a valid reason (e.g. CCA). Students may use the library until 5:15 p.m. Students who

have CCA session at 4:30 p.m. have to stay in the library until CCA start time. On weekends

and holidays, students are not permitted to use the Academy facilities unless they are under

the direct supervision of a staff member and have parental permission.

2.3. No Lunchboxes and Other Materials Drop Off

Students should bring their lunch and other materials with them to school and make use of

their lockers as appropriate. No one should drop off any items during the day.

2.4. Use of Bathrooms on Campus

In accordance with our Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy, all bathrooms on campus

are clearly marked and designated for either student or adult use only.

2.5. Elevator Access for Students

Elevators are for staff and visitor use only. If students are injured or have limited mobility,

they must get an elevator pass from the School Nurse for a limited time.

2.6. Specialist Equipment

Students should not bring any sharp utensils such as craft knives or scalpels to school. All

specialist equipment for Design, Science and Visual Arts lessons are provided by the class

teacher.

2.7. Application for Student’s Absence (Leave / Sick Leave / Other Leave)

Parents must inform the Secondary Office in advance should students need to take leave

or absence of any nature. There are three ways to do so:

4. Secondary School Parent-Teacher-Student Conference (PTSC)

The Secondary School Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences (PTSC), a key part of our reporting

and feedback cycle, will take place from October 6 to 8, from 8:00 a.m. - 3:34 p.m. for all Grade

6 to 12 students. Under the EDB directives to restrict mass gatherings and parent meetings on

campus, and with positive positive feedback on the effectiveness and convenience of previous

online conferences, the PTSC will be conducted via Google Meet.

There is no school for Secondary students from Wednesday to Friday, October 6 to 8

Duplicate Login Alert Message: An alert message will appear if the parent has logged

5. 2021-22 Student Health Service Application (Applicable to Grade 7 to 12 Students)

The Student Health Service enrolment form for Grade 7 to 12 has been distributed to students

this week. This service is free of charge. Parents who are interested should submit the enrolment

form to the Secondary Counter by Wednesday, September 15. Late application will NOT be

accepted.

6. Core Experiential Program (CCA)

6.1. Core Experiential Program (CCA)

CCA program is one of the cornerstones of student development at ISF. Due to the

pandemic, we are implementing an extended curriculum under current EDB directives.

Ongoing programs:

Athletic Honor Sports Programs: all grades and levels for Basketball, Netball, Squash,

Swimming and Wushu

Learning Support Programs: all grades

Outdoor Exploration Society (OES): all grades

Strict measures are in place to safeguard student health and well-being. Please login to

PowerSchool to check the starting date of your child’s CCA program under Student

Timetable / CCA.

The CCA bus service will continue as usual. Parents should contact Kwoon Chung Motors

Company Limited directly at 3193 9353 or email isf@kcm.com.hk for enquiries.

Parents with students registered in programs that have been postponed have two options:

Option 1: Receive an automatic pro-rated refund for the lessons missed between Monday,

August 30 and Sunday, October 17 and commence activities from Monday, October 18.

The pro-rated refund will be credited via PayPal or direct bank transfer by Friday,

December 31.

We are in communication with EDB and hope to find a solution that will allow interest

activities to resume as planned. If we are unable to commence these programs due to

circumstances beyond our control, you will be informed by Friday, October 1 and then

receive a full refund.

Option 2: Request a full refund for registered lesson(s) by completing this Refund

Application Form by Tuesday, September 7. The full refund will be credited via PayPal

or direct bank transfer by Friday, December 31. If you wish to register for another activity,

please email cca@isf.edu.hk. Alternatives are subject to availability.

If you join an interest activity with a service provider, you are entering an agreement

directly with them and it is not an ISF sanctioned activity. Please click here for the list of

6.2. Experiential Learning Program (ELP)

6.2.1. 2021-22 Experiential Learning Program 1 (ELP1)

ELP is a core part of our learning curriculum. Adhering to current health and safety

guidelines, all ELP1 programs will be based in Hong Kong. Grade 6 to 9 students

will be engaged in local expeditions in natural settings including Lantau Island and

Sai Kung. Grade 10 to 11 students will focus on local community improvement and

service projects.

registration for ELP1 is open on PowerSchool until 5:00 p.m. Sunday,

September 5. All parents of students in Grade 6 to 11 must complete registration

during this period. Limited spaces are available for all Grade 10 and 11 programs.

6.2.2. Grade 7 Outdoor Residential Program

This 4-day/3-night residential camp will be held in October, featuring a number of

adventurous activities that aim to develop life skills through experiential learning.

NOTES:

Adhering to social distancing measures, the program will be limited to a

maximum of 20 participants. Completing the Google registration form does not

guarantee a place

7. ISF Development Office

Welcome back to ISF! We hope that you have all enjoyed a good summer break.

We are now making plans for the biggest event on our school calendar - Jam

2021. Our annual Jam is a wonderful manifestation of the spirit of ISF. We

have all been disappointed that circumstances have caused the cancellation

of the most recent events, but we are more determined than ever to revive

this tradition and host a celebration this year! Of course, the health and well-

being of all is our first priority, so we have two plans for this year, depending

on circumstances.

Plan A

Jam 2021 (November 20): “Community & Celebration”

Our annual is a day when we unite to celebrate with the entire ISF community. We are now

channeling all of our energy into preparing for “Jam 2021” and looking into a morning and

afternoon Jam session. As previously planned, the Personalized Handprint Tiles Campaign

2020 will take place, in addition to a range of other games and activities.

Plan B

Jam 2021 (November 20): “A Student Jam”

If we cannot hold our beloved annual Jam, we plan to hold a Student Jam on that day. This will

be geared towards facilitating an enjoyable, team building and active day for all ISF Pre-School

and Academy students. Again, we will monitor the situation and keep parents and students

informed as early as possible. Please rest assured that we will only hold an event under all

safety precautions and guidelines. We are indeed grateful for your patience and understanding.

In a time of hardship for many, we rely on the culture of generosity and selflessness that is unique

to the wonderful ISF community. Please do not hesitate to reach out for support or assistance at

any time. We are here to help you.

8.2. KanHan Chinese Language - Online Learning Resources

We will continue to offer online learning resources from KanHan Chinese Language.

Parents and Secondary students who are interested can click here to register by Thursday,

Chinese Teacher Librarian will email and meet with registered students to help them select

a suitable reading level from Monday, October 4 to Friday, October 8. Registered students

9. Chinese Cultural Center (CCC)

In response to students’ queries about learning the Chinese language, we would like to share

with you some words from Dr. Levi Gao, Director of Chinese Language & Culture: “Beautiful and

fascinating thoughts need to be expressed in a beautiful and fascinating language. The further

the language goes, the further the thoughts will be.” We hope Dr. Gao’s article “Thoughts are

Languages”《思想就是語言》can give you some inspiration.

Synopsis:

A founder of Western History and an outstanding representative of Humanism, Herodotus

is honored as the “Father of History”. In his passionate lecture, Professor Zhang Xingang

will discuss the role and significance of history, how to study history, and to emulate

Herodotus by scrutinizing the past. In studying history, new generations gain wisdom and

a deeper understanding of human nature. History can help us grasp the causes of

development and change in cultures and societies such as the reasons for the rise and fall

of heroes and great empires. Understanding history can help us plan for a better future by

avoiding mistakes that have already been made in the past.

Speaker: Professor Zhang Xingang

Professor Zhang is a professor at the School of History and Culture of Shandong University.

He holds a Doctorate Degree in Law and a Post-Doctorate Degree of History at Peking

University. He was an Assistant Professor at the Western Classics Center and the

Department of History at Peking University. His research fields are Western ethical political

thought (particularly ancient Greek and early modern political thought), and ancient Greek

and Roman history, political theory. His publications include “Friendship and Community: A

Study of Greek Political Thought” (Peking University Press, 2020), and “State and Liberty:

Quentin Skinner’s Lectures in China” (Peking University Press, 2018). He has also

translated books such as “Platonic Political Theory”, “Plato’s Second Best Society” and

many other articles on the history of Western political thought and ancient history.

12.3. Used Uniform Recycling Drive Continues

ISF Academy PTA and The ISF Academy Sustainability Council will continue to collect and

recycle/upcycle used uniforms throughout this academic year. We have collected almost

7,000 items of clothing weighing over 1,700kg since this May. During the last few weeks of

the past academic year and throughout the summer, uniforms were collected, sorted,

cataloged, boxed and ultimately saved from landfill by a combination of commercial textile

recycling, textile waste-to-electricity incineration and charity donations.

Due to construction works in the C Block near the Primary Gate, uniform collection will

continue near the Secondary Library in Charles Kao Square. Let’s keep the effort going!

Please note that the recycling/upcycling process requires careful sorting, weighing and

inventorying of the uniforms collected. Please do not drop off non-Academy uniforms and

clothing as it will greatly complicate the work of the Sustainability Council and volunteers.

1. 中學校長訊息

感謝所有家長昨天參加我們的虛擬返校夜活動。正當我們繼續在中學建立一個富關懷、指導及協

助學生取得成就的文化，你也許在返校夜中留意到我們一班備受矚目的年級組長們。我們已商討

了在學年初將會專注於培育關愛與福祉多於課程的事宜。沒有緊密的關係，便不能發展有效的學

習。課程和評估的事宜將在十月的家長教師學生三方會議中與各年級的個別家庭討論。

今天標誌著「開始的結束」 完成了中學課表的首個十天循環週。這時期對學生來說至關重要，因

為他們會通過頭幾節課的經驗而「找到自己的水平」。每學年，我們強調教師要花時間了解學生、

記得他們的名字、清楚地傳達對他們的期望，並建立上課常規的重要性。最重要的一點，是通過

我們所說的話和表達方式來傳達我們對學生的關心。卓越的學習只會建立在學生看到並知道他們

被一個值得信賴的成年人關心，並對他們感到有興趣的基礎上。

2. 重要提示

2.1. 學校制服事宜

不能混合搭配舊款和新款，或體育服與校服

黑皮鞋只可以配合新款校服穿著

新款校服的 Polo 恤只可與長褲或裙褲一起穿著

學生上體育課當天只可穿著新款體育／社屋校服或舊款體育校服（不應穿著舊款社衣）

學生進行體育課及／或以運動為本的「好學」課程或以運動為本的聯課活動當天可穿體

育校服上學

2.2. 放學後學生留校政策

學生不得在指定放學時間後留在學校，除非他們有留在校園的合理理由（如：聯課活動） 。

學生可留在圖書館直至下午 5:15 為止。學生如有下午 4:30 開始的聯課活動，他們需要留在

圖書館溫習直至聯課活動開始。在週末和假日，學生不得使用弘立書院的設施，除非他們獲

得家長同意，並由工作人員直接監督。

2.3. 不可送遞飯盒和其他物品

學生應在上學時備齊他們的午餐和其他物品，並適當地儲存在他們的儲物櫃內。上課期間，

任何人均不可送遞任何物品到學校。

2.4. 在校園使用洗手間

根據弘立兒童安全與保護政策，所有洗手間已經清晰標明和限定給學生或成人使用。

2.5. 學生使用升降機

升降機是為教職員和訪客而設。如學生受傷或行動不便，他們必須向駐校護士索取短暫乘搭

升降機的通行證。

2.6. 專業設備

學生不應攜帶尖銳物品如工藝刀或解剖刀回校。設計科、科學科和視覺藝術科教師都會在課

堂上提供所有專業設備。

2.7. 學生缺課申請（事假／病假／其他假）

學生如需要請假，家長必須提早通知中學校務處，有以下三種途徑：

中學家長教師學生三方會談（PTSC）是發放學生成績及回饋循環的一個主要部份，六至十二年

級學生的三方會談將於 10 月 6 至 8 日上午 8:00 至下午 3:34 舉行。鑒於教育局對於在校園內進

行大型集會及家長會議的指引，以及家長回饋指早前進行線上會議很有效和方便，因此三方會談

將以 Google Meet 形式進行。

10 月 6 至 8 日（星期三至五）中學生全天不用上課

「家長／教師預約會議系統」開放時間：

6.1. 核心體驗課程（聯課活動）

聯課活動項目是弘立書院學生發展的基石。鑒於疫情限制，我們需根據教育局現行指引

進行本核心體驗課程。

如所註冊的課程被延遲，家長有以下選擇：

選項一：按比例自動獲得 8 月 30 日（星期一）至 10 月 17 日（星期日）期間活動的退

款，並於 10 月 18 日（星期一）開始課程。按比例退款將於 12 月 31 日（星期五）或之

前透過 PayPal 或銀行直接轉帳方式退還。

本校正與教育局溝通商討可行方案，以便如期重啟興趣課程。如在本校無法控制的情況

下導致課程無法順利展開，我們會於 10 月 1 日（星期五）前通知各位，並提供全額退

款。

選項二：家長可選擇已註冊課程全額退款。請於 9 月 7 日（星期二）或之前把填妥的退

款申請表格交回本校。全額退款將於 12 月 31 日（星期五）或之前透過 PayPal 或銀行

直接轉帳方式退還。如希望以其他聯課活動替代，請電郵至 cca@isf.edu.hk。請注意，

聯課活動其他選擇須視供應情況提供。

若你參加由服務承辦商開辦的興趣課程，則是直接與對方簽訂協議，並不屬於弘立正式

6.2. 體驗學習課程

6.2.1. 2021-22 年度體驗學習課程一（ELP1）

體驗學習課程是弘立書院課程的核心部份。為遵照現行的健康及安全措施，所有

體驗學習課程一的活動將會於香港進行。六至九年級的學生將會進行地道的大自

然探索之旅，地點包括大嶼山及西貢。十至十一年級的學生將專注於本地社區改

善及服務項目。

請按此查看體驗學習課程一的簡介和地點。PowerSchool 線上註冊由即日起至 9

月 5 日（星期日）下午 5:00 期間開放。所有六至十一年級學生的家長必須在此

期間內辦妥註冊手續。所有十至十一年級課程的名額有限，請盡早註冊。

6.2.2. 七年級戶外宿營課程

此四日三夜的宿營活動將於 10 月舉行，讓學生進行各式各樣的冒險活動，透過

體驗學習增強生活技能。詳情請參閱課程簡介，並按此查看報名程序。

7. 弘立發展部

歡迎回到弘立書院！相信大家都度過了一個愉快的暑假。

我們正著手籌備本校最盛大的年度活動「Jam 2021」，美妙呈現出真正的弘

立精神。我們對於近期活動因目前狀況取消而感到失望，但我們決意恢復這

傳統並於今年舉辦慶典！當然，所有人的健康和福祉是我們的首要考慮，故

此我們會有兩個方案，而最終方案將按當時情況決定 。

方案 A

Jam 2021（11 月 20 日）：「社群和慶典」

眾所周知，年度 Jam 是弘立社群的重點活動，亦是我們與整個弘立社群歡聚的一天。我們現正全

力籌備及研究上午及下午分段舉行的 Jam 2021。按原定計劃，當天除了安排一系列遊戲和活動

外，還會舉行「留下你的手印」瓷磚活動 2020。

方案 B

Jam 2021（11 月 20 日）：「學生同樂」

若受大家喜愛的年度 Jam 未能舉行，我們將於當天舉行學生同樂，為所有弘立幼稚園及弘立書院

的同學們締造充滿愉快、團結精神及活力的一天。我們會密切注視疫情發展，並盡早公佈有關詳

情。請放心，我們保證只會在安全的情況下舉辦活動，在此感謝你的耐心和理解。

在這艱難時期，我們有賴得到弘立社群慷慨無私的精神支持，這是弘立社群的優秀象徵。如需尋

求支持或幫助，請隨時與我們聯繫，我們會一直相伴。

注意：衞生防護中心強烈呼籲大眾減少社交接觸，護己護人。因此，即使舉辦學生同樂活動，我

們亦會安排學生分級出席。

8.2. 看漢中文網 - 線上學習資源

我們繼續在本學年為中學生提供「看漢中文網」的線上學習資源。家長和中學生如有興趣，

請於 9 月 30日（星期四）或之前按此報名。部份中文老師已為班上同學登記。中文圖書館

老師會在 10 月 4 日（星期一） 至 10 月 8 日（星期五）以電郵約見已報名的學生，並協助

他們選擇合適的閱讀級別，已約見的同學將於兩週內收到有關帳號和密碼的電郵。如有查

詢，歡迎電郵至 ctseng@isf.edu.hk與曾老師聯絡。

9. 中國文化中心

就部份學生對於中文學習產生的一些疑問，我們在此分享中國語文及文化總監高小剛博士的心得：

「美麗奇特的思想，需要用美麗奇特的語言才能夠呈現。語言走多遠，思想才能走多遠」。詳見

11. 2021-22 學年「港鐵學生乘車優惠計劃」

學生可以透過港鐵線上平台啟動或延續個人八達通上的「學生身分」。

經港鐵手機應用程式／ 港鐵網站遞交申請

學生可從以上鏈結填寫申請表格並上載有效學生證以核實身分，毋須再回校蓋印。

12.1. 家教會會員註冊

2021-22 學年的弘立書院家教會會員註冊服務會在本學年持續開放予弘立書院社群。會

籍年費將由明天 9月 4日起恢復至原價每年港幣 450元。請從速註冊以享受港幣 50元的

折扣。

填入大部份已儲存的資料，省卻重新輸入資料的時間。

作為西方史學的奠基人、人文主義的傑出代表，希羅多德被尊稱為「歷史學之父」。張

新剛教授在他充滿激情的講座中，將帶領我們一起跟隨希羅多德，用審視的目光投向過

去，了解甚麼是歷史，歷史有甚麼作用和意義，以及如何學好歷史。通過學習歷史，可

以增長智慧學識，同時深入了解人性，讓新一代知曉人類社會的發展脈絡，還有文化及

社會的變遷，從而探究偉大的帝國和英雄因何盛極而衰，反思成敗得失。

講者：張新剛教授

張教授是山東大學歷史文化學院教授，他亦是北京大學法學博士及歷史學系博士，曾擔

任北京大學西方古典學中心、歷史學系助理教授。其研究領域為西方倫理政治思想（特

別是古希臘和現代早期政治思想）、古希臘及羅馬史、政治理論等。著有《友愛共同

體：古希臘政治思想研究》（北京大學出版社，2020 年），主編《國家與自由：昆廷．

斯金納訪華講演錄》（北京大學出版社，2018 年）等，譯有《柏拉圖的政治理論》及

《柏拉圖的次優城邦》等多部著作，另發表多篇有西方政治思想史和古代史論文。

12.3. 舊校服回收活動繼續進行

弘立書院家教會和弘立書院可持續發展委員會將在本學年繼續努力收集和回收／升級再

造舊校服。自今年 5 月以來，我們已經收集近 7,000 件重量超過 1,700 公斤的舊校服。

在上學年的最後數週和暑假期間，我們收集了這些原本會被棄置於垃圾堆填區的舊校

服，並進行分類、編目及裝箱程序，最終用作商業紡織品回收、紡織廢料焚燒發電和慈

善捐贈。

由於小學閘口附近的 C 大樓正進行施工，我們將繼續在高錕廣場中學圖書館旁收集舊校

服。讓我們繼續努力回收！

請注意，校服的回收／升級再造過程中需要對收集的校服進行仔細分類、秤重和盤點。

請不要混入非本校校服和其他服裝，以免加重可持續發展委員會和義工們的工作。
