ORDER OFPROCEEDINGS
As the University confers degrees on students who have satisfied the requirements for graduation, we would have loved to host all our graduating students in face-to-face Congregation ceremonies to afford them the opportunity to celebrate this milestone in-person with their colleagues, and in the presence of friends and family.
However, the University, mindful of the need to prevent the spread of Covid-19, and given the large numbers of graduating students, is able to accommodate only graduate students physically during the January 2022 Congregation ceremonies. Rigorous efforts have been made to ensure that the virtual congregation ceremonies for undergraduate students encapsulate all the activities that usually take place during face-to-face ceremonies, and we trust that our undergraduate students will be able to participate in the virtual ceremonies, with their friends and families.
We salute all our students who have worked so hard through the uncertainties of this pandemic period to complete their studies successfully.
We invite all friends and families of our graduating students from all over the world to join in the virtual sessions, to celebrate the achievements of these students.
As you step out into the next phase of your lives, we encourage you, our graduating students, to always be guided by the motto of this University: Integri Procedamus: Proceed with Integrity. Ensure that every action you undertake is grounded in ethically sound convictions and expressed in service to society.
We wish you every success in your future endeavours, as you step out in confidence to distinguish yourselves as alumni of the Premier University.
Once again, hearty congratulations, and all the best.
Aanyekoo!

15JANUARY 2022 CONGREGATION | SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES
Dear Graduands, family and friends of graduands, and all others here present for this truly great occasion, on behalf of the Board of the School
of Graduate Studies, and the Provosts of all four colleges of the University of Ghana, namely: the Colleges of Health Sciences, Humanities, Basic and Applied Sciences, and Education, I welcome you all to the 2020/2021 academic year’s Congregation Ceremonies.
The School of Graduate Studies since its establishment in 1962 as the Graduate Studies Centre, has been coordinating all graduate level programmes in the University. The School works with all academic units and the University of Ghana Computing Systems to admit students and prepare them through their academic programmes until they graduate. The graduation of students constitutes a hallmark of all academic institutions and it is an event at which institutions share the joy of students, parents and guardians, and sponsors of graduating students. This year’s ceremonies are particularly important as it coincides with a period when the entire world is getting used to the ‘new normal’ of living with Covid-19. Indeed this ceremony, for the graduate School, marks the return to the in-person graduation ceremony. In spite of all the movement restrictions and other well known challenges that have become associated with COVID-19, graduate students kept their perseverance and spirits and pushed on with their research. The result of this perseverance is why we are holding this ceremony today. Being able to hold this ceremony is reason to rejoice and to give thanks to the Almighty God.
The School coordinates over 240 graduate programmes at the University which lead to the award of various Masters and Ph.D degrees. This year, the School, together with the four Colleges, would be presenting about 3,100 graduands, which include 88 Ph.Ds. Looking at the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic, it is obvious that graduating this number of students is a laudable achievement that gives us cause to celebrate. We, therefore, celebrate our graduands. We say Congratulations to our graduands and to everyone who has contributed to the processes, from admissions through to graduation. May God bless you all abundantly in all your endeavours, as you progress in your career. For our graduands, we are truly proud of you and remind you to always proceed in truth and integrity.
MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
Professor R. D. Osei

PROFILEOF VALEDICTORIAN
Theodora completed her Junior Secondary School education at Christian Home School and is a proud old girl of Wesley Girls’ High School. Theodora was awarded her Bachelor of Science in Administration, Accounting option with First Class Honors in 2012 and a Master of Philosophy Degree in Accounting, both from the University of Ghana. She has served as a Teaching Assistant and Graduate Assistant in the Department of Accounting, UGBS. Ms. Aryee is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and was a proud recipient of the Best Performing Student in Ghana for Paper P1 (Governance, Risk and Ethics) for the March 2017 sitting and the Overall Best Affiliate Award for the June, 2018 sitting of the ACCA Examination.
Theodora has always had an innate quest to contribute to knowledge, probe into issues and gain understanding of them. Her love for reading has over the years enhanced her understanding of issues and has given her opportunities to satisfy her curious mind. With enhanced understanding, she found herself reaching out to her peers to explain or tutor them on issues and topics she had gained more insight into during her times of reading. These events led to her increased interest in lecturing. After careful thoughts and encouragement from her mentors, Theodora decided to venture into research and lecturing in accounting, and pursue it to the highest level. Thus in 2016, she enrolled in the PhD program at the University of Ghana.
Theodora Akua Aryee
During her PhD, she was privileged to be part of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship-Advance Scholars programme between University of Ghana and Carleton University, Canada. As a result of this award, she spent three months in Canada, which richly improved the final output of her PhD work and also exposed her to an interdisciplinary perspective on Climate change. Theodora is keen on becoming a key part of the research community that contributes to the increase in knowledge on accountability issues in the area of climate change and more broadly the achievement of the sustainable development goals, to ensure holistic societal transformation. She is dissatisfied with the current role accountants are playing in climate change and sustainable development issues that plague the world. She believes that the accounting and accountability mechanisms employed by the accounting profession should result in the efficient and effective use of resources in ways that will contribute to the achievement of the sustainable development goals.
Aside her academic achievements, in 2010, as a third-year undergraduate student, Theodora took a step to becoming part of the solution to Ghana’s street problem that currently plagues the nation. Her passion for this cause translated to providing weekly snacks to migrant workers in Accra Central, educating them on various health tips to keep them healthy, working with those who are willing to have an alternate source of livelihood and opportunities to further their education. More recently, she also provides educational supports, such as teaching and monetary support to some kids on the street. Theodora believes that “anything worth doing is worth doing well”. She is what she is by the grace of God, coupled with perseverance and discipline.

PROFILEOF VALEDICTORIAN
Dr Bernard Kwaku Okai is a specialist obstetrician/gynaecologist. He had his basic education at St. Paul’s Methodist School, Tema. He proceeded to Mfantsipim School, where he was a part of the National Science and Maths Quiz team for the 2002-year group. He completed his medical training at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, earning an MB.ChB while serving as President of the Christian Medical Fellowship.
Due to his passion for community service and dedication to serving Mother Ghana, his housemanship training and rotations took him to the Volta, Brong Ahafo, and Northern Regions of Ghana. After gaining his permanent license, he started his professional career at the Presbyterian Hospital, Bawku, in the Upper East Region. There, he championed several initiatives within the Northern and Upper regions.
Dr. Okai began his Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency programme at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in 2015, and graduated in 2018 with dual membership in both the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the West African College of Surgeons.
He returned to the Presbyterian Hospital in Bawku, Upper East Region, as one of two specialist obstetrician/gynaecologists serving the entire region and neighbouring Togo and Burkina Faso. He has been actively involved in training all cadres of health workers regarding maternal health-related issues and runs a specialist clinic that sees over ten thousand women yearly. In addition, his particular interest in family planning has led him to participate in several national and international conferences targeted at addressing the region’s high unmet need for family planning and maternal deaths within the region.
Dr. Bernard Kwaku Okai
He also served as the medical administrator of the Presbyterian Hospital, Bawku and, on several occasions, acted as the General Manager of the entire Presbyterian Health Service - North. These leadership roles, together with the lack of critical clinical leadership and proper administrative skills for most hospital managers, inspired him to pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Leadership and Management at the University of Ghana in 2019.
Dr. Okai is currently pursuing his senior residency in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and concurrently studying for a postgraduate degree in Sexual and Reproductive Medicine at the University of South Wales. He aspires to become a fertility care specialist who will bridge the gap in access to fertility care services currently prevalent in Ghana.
When he is not working, you can find Dr. Okai binge-watching a Korean television series on Netflix, listening to the latest African tunes on Spotify or travelling throughout Ghana and leaving reviews of sites he has been to on the Google Maps app. The grace of God and his mother’s encouragement have contributed to his achievements and successes thus far.
