German Studies Research Grant
The aim of the research grant is to fund and encourage young academics to study subjects relating to German affairs on a long-term basis. The program is aimed at qualified students, graduates and doctoral candidates from North America who are carrying out research projects on German cultural studies. The program funds research visits to universities or non-university institutes, archives and research institutes in Germany.

Practical Traineeships for Foreign Students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry (IAESTE)
This program aims to improve the professional and practical qualifications and intercultural skills of program participants. Who can apply? Students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry who are enrolled in member countries of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE). What is supported? Internships in commercial enterprises, research and higher education institutes.

- The internships in Germany are offered abroad exclusively through the respective IAESTE national committees, which in turn find internships for German university interns. The IAESTE program offers no internships to individual applicants outside this procedure. Applicants must be enrolled at a university throughout the internship period.
- German language requirements vary significantly; some employers expect interns to have a good knowledge of German, others only basic German if the applicant is also proficient in English. In most cases, interns only need a good command of English.

Study Visits by Groups of Foreign Students
What is supported? Study trips for groups of max. 15 students accompanied by one university teacher. Individual doctoral candidates may also be funded after consultation with the DAAD. The groups visit at least two German universities where they participate in the academic program. A cultural program is organized in the evenings and at weekends.

This scholarship program aims to help students and graduates improve their knowledge of German (general language, special language) and their cultural knowledge of the country. Who can apply? - Students in Bachelor's and Master's
degree programs in any subject area; (more information on program website).
What can be funded? - Attendance of language and area studies
courses, special language / terminology courses offered by state or state-recognized German universities and by affiliated language schools (course in Goettingen).

- Applicants may only be considered once in three years for a DAAD Intensive Language Course or University Summer Course Grant.
- It is not possible to apply simultaneously for an Intensive Language Course and University Summer Course Grant.

AIESEC: Global Talent Program
The program sets up internships of at least 6 months in the fields of marketing (i.e. business development or customer relationship marketing), IT (i.e. web or mobile development) business (i.e. project management or logistics) and teaching (conversational and written English) abroad. Participants broaden their professional knowledge in the international environment of emerging markets, increase their employability and contribute to the development of a company abroad. At the same time they get to know different mentalities, enjoy foreign food, listen to new languages and make new friends. The Global Talent program does not provide financial support, but arranges internships instead. Participants pay a one-off exchange fee of EUR 350, find an individually set up internship and are then supported by local students before and during the their stay. Living costs, however, are covered by the individual internship salaries paid by the companies, which the participants have selected. Students or recent graduates who wish to gain international work experience and intercultural competence can apply.

Bayer Science & Education Foundation: Carl Duisberg Scholarships
The Carl Duisberg scholarships are open to all students of human and veterinary medicine. Scientific projects and further education courses at leading institutions are eligible for funding, as well as medical traineeships, 4-month rotations during the pre-doctoral internship and studying abroad as part of postgraduate studies. The scholarship primarily supports projects which focus on particular social aspects of primary care or relate to the fields of cardiology, oncology, inflammation, gynecology or medical imaging.

Teacher training students from the natural sciences in the main study stage or a Master's course are welcome to apply for funding. As the foundation places great emphasis on internationalism scholarships are awarded exclusively to students from German-speaking countries wishing to realize a project of their own design abroad, or, applicants studying abroad who want to carry out a study project in Germany. The foundation primarily finances study projects, internships, summer courses, postgraduate or complementary courses and dissertations. Projects with a focus on improving the training situation for teacher training students from the natural sciences and initiatives on further training of teachers are also eligible for funding.

The Evonik Foundation awards scholarships for research work and projects by doctoral students, but also for Diplom and Master's theses. The program's focus is on the active support of particularly gifted and skilled young scientists and includes mentoring of the scholars' academic and personal skills.

Fulbright Commission: Fulbright Program
The Fulbright program is aimed at financing academic stays by US citizens in Germany. It offers a range of different funding opportunities for students and graduates from HEIs and universities of applied sciences, for teaching assistants, post-doctoral students, lecturers and researchers from US higher education institutions. Funding modalities and grant amount depend on the individual grant program.

Hertie Foundation: Horizons Grant Program for Future Teaching Staff from Immigrant Background
The Hertie scholarship is open to teacher training students and teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession who come from an immigrant background. Applicants with any teaching qualification, from any subject or educational level who have at least 1,5 or 2 years of training (academic or in terms of the preparatory work period) ahead at the start of the scholarship are eligible for funding. Please note that funding for the winter semester of 2014/2015 will be possible in Hamburg and Lower Saxony alone. During their training the scholars are supported financially and in a non-material way. Teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession are paid a grant worth EUR 1,000/ year. The non-material support entails, i.e., a comprehensive program of seminars.

Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs: Foreign Language Assistants from Abroad Teaching at German Schools
Every year about 1,100 foreign students come to Germany as foreign-language assistants (FSA) to be placed in host schools and support the local subject-specialist teachers. FSA teach 12 language lessons per week in their native languages and have a positive and motivating impact on the pupils and the learning situation as a whole. Candidates can apply for the language assistantship in Germany directly in their home countries.

- Academic Requirements: Foreign-language assistants are required to have completed a degree course of at least 2 years at a higher education institution in their home countries with 1 of the subjects being German.

Re-invitation Program for Former Scholarship Holders
DAAD grants offer students and academics and scientists the opportunity to carry out research and continue their education in Germany. There are funding programs for various qualification phases and stages in a career. The aim of this program is to enable former scholarship holders to carry out research and working projects in Germany and to maintain contacts as part of DAAD's global alumni network. Former holders of DAAD research grants or study scholarships, who were funded for a period of over six months and former East German scholarship holders who studied for at least one year in Germany can apply. What can be funded? - Research and working projects at state or
state-recognized institutions of higher education or non-university research institutes in Germany.
- Working stays at an institution in business, administration, culture or media for former scholarship holders who work outside the science sector.
- A research or working visit can also take place at several host institutions.

This scholarship program offers you the opportunity to continue your academic education in Germany with a postgraduate course of study. Who can apply? - Excellently-qualified graduates who have

- Applicants should have taken their final examinations no longer than six years prior.
- Applicants who have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline cannot be considered.
- Notification of admission from the German host university for the desired degree course; please note that you yourself are responsible for ensuring that you apply for admission at the host university by the due date. A Scholarship Award Letter from the DAAD is only valid if you have been admitted to study at the desired host university.
- If the degree program includes a study period or work placement abroad lasting several months, funding for this period abroad is usually only possible under the following conditions: (1) the study visit is essential for achievement of the scholarship objective. (2) The study period is no longer than a quarter of the scholarship period. Longer periods cannot be funded, even partially. (3) The study period does not take place in the home country.
- When you apply for your chosen study program, you are usually required to prove that you have an adequate knowledge of the language of tuition.
- Good German language skills are usually a requirement for studying in Germany (exceptions possible).

What is supported? Study trips for groups of max. 15 students accompanied by one university teacher. Individual doctoral candidates may also be funded after consultation with the DAAD. AIESEC: Global Talent Program
The program sets up internships of at least 6 months in the fields of marketing (i.e. business development or customer relationship marketing), IT (i.e. web or mobile development) business (i.e. project management or logistics) and teaching (conversational and written English) abroad. Participants broaden their professional knowledge in the international environment of emerging markets, increase their employability and contribute to the development of a company abroad. At the same time they get to know different mentalities, enjoy foreign food, listen to new languages and make new friends. The Global Talent program does not provide financial support, but arranges internships instead. Participants pay a one-off exchange fee of EUR 350, find an individually set up internship and are then supported by local students before and during the their stay. Living costs, however, are covered by the individual internship salaries paid by the companies, which the participants have selected. Students or recent graduates who wish to gain international work experience and intercultural competence can apply.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation: The German Chancellor Fellowship
The fellowship is targeted toward higher education graduates of all disciplines in the United States (and others), who have an international focus and initial leadership experience. It is aimed at promoting research-based, independently developed projects at host institutions in Germany to be selected by the candidate. Not only should the projects be of social relevance, they should also have a long-term, publicly visible impact. After the conclusion of the program the fellows act as intermediaries between their home countries and Germany, and remain a part of the world-wide Humboldt network.

Bayer Science & Education Foundation: Carl Duisberg Scholarships
The Carl Duisberg scholarships are open to all students of human and veterinary medicine. Scientific projects and further education courses at leading institutions are eligible for funding, as well as medical traineeships, 4-month rotations during the pre-doctoral internship and studying abroad as part of postgraduate studies. The scholarship primarily supports projects which focus on particular social aspects of primary care or relate to the fields of cardiology, oncology, inflammation, gynecology or medical imaging.

The Evonik Foundation awards scholarships for research work and projects by doctoral students, but also for Diplom and Master's theses. Hertie Foundation: Horizons Grant Program for Future Teaching Staff from Immigrant Background
The Hertie scholarship is open to teacher training students and teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession who come from an immigrant background. Applicants with any teaching qualification, from any subject or educational level who have at least 1,5 or 2 years of training (academic or in terms of the preparatory work period) ahead at the start of the scholarship are eligible for funding. Please note that funding for the winter semester of 2014/2015 will be possible in Hamburg and Lower Saxony alone. During their training the scholars are supported financially and in a non-material way. Teaching staff in the preparatory service for the teaching profession are paid a grant worth EUR 1,000/ year. The non-material support entails, i.e., a comprehensive program of seminars.

Fulbright: Teaching Assistantships at German Schools
The program helps to improve the teaching of the American language and American studies at all types of German schools. American teaching assistants usually cooperate closely with a German teacher of English and take over certain responsibilities in the classroom, especially with regard to projects on the U.S. The duration of the award is usually one school year, beginning in early September and ending in late June. University affiliation and part-time study may be feasible when the assigned school is located in or near a town with a university. The program is conducted by the Fulbright Commission in close cooperation with Pädagogischer Austauschdienst (PAD) in Bonn.

„DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship“ is a program implemented by the 'German Aerospace Center' (DLR) and the 'German Academic Exchange Service' (DAAD). DLR is Germany´s national research center for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in Aeronautics, Space, Transportation and Energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. As Germany´s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility for the forward planning and the implementation of the German space program by the German federal government as well as for the international representation of German interests. Approximately 7,400 people are employed in DLR´s 33 institutes and facilities at 16 locations in Germany (incl. Goettingen). Research Grants – Cotutelle Doctoral Programs
DAAD research grants provide foreign doctoral candidates and young academics and scientists with an opportunity to carry out research or continue their education in Germany. There are funding programs for various qualification phases and stages in a career. The grants also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues. The aim of this program is to promote binational doctoral degrees at the home university and at a university in Germany according to the so-called "cotutelle" procedure. The prerequisite is an individual agreement between the participating universities about the doctoral program which is to be supervised. Excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and graduates who have admission to a doctoral program at the time they begin their grant-supported research can apply. What can be funded? Young scientists from all subject who have been awarded their doctorates within 4 or 7 years prior to the application and who have already gathered international experience, are offered a tenure track option. For the period following the funding and upon a positive evaluation, the universities commit to assuming the successful professorship and guarantee that a regular professorship will be included in their budget.

Volkswagen Foundation: Opus magnum
The initiative aims at providing more freedom for writing a larger scholarly treatise to professors from the humanities and social sciences who have already achieved a degree of renown by virtue of (a first) outstanding research performance. The Foundation will finance a teaching substitute for a leave of absence of 6 months to 2 years.

Fulbright: Lecture and Research
The program for junior and senior faculty members sponsors lecturing and/or research stays at various stipend levels for a duration of 2-5 months. In general, applicants should have established contacts with potential German host institutions and solicited an invitation. For the benefit of a German student audience, the Commission particularly encourages scholars with lecturing projects or research projects with some regular lecturing component.

Seminar for U.S. Administrators in International Education
This two-week group seminar takes place in the fall and focuses on German higher education for American university, college, and community college administrators. The program includes briefings, campus visits and cultural events in Berlin and other cities in Germany. A new program feature is the meeting in Strasbourg, France with American colleagues who participated in a similar program to France, which offers new insights into the French and German education system. The program consists of two parts: A general introduction to Germany and its system of higher education and a program portion in which participants split up in small subgroups enabling them to focus on their individual professional interests as they relate to the seminar.
