Seniors’ Resource and Support List Richmond

The Seniors’ Resource and Support List has been developed by Vancouver Coastal

Health (VCH). It includes printouts of non-medical and social support services for

seniors living in Richmond community. The handouts are easy to read and are

meant for you to use and share with your patients, clients and their families.

They are arranged according to the Table of Contents listed on the following

pages.

Richmond Access Central – Detox Referral Line

A screening and referral telephone line that provides adults access to withdrawal management services and addiction housing. People who require detoxification receive immediate screening by health care workers who set up appointment times with the provider that most suits a client's needs. Also provides housing information, screening, referral, and placement services for adult men and women who are dealing with addiction issues. Referrals are made to low-threshold supported housing (for those who may not be abstinent nor actively engaged in addiction treatment) or to alcohol- and drug-free supported housing. Will accept methadone-using clients wanting to withdraw from other substances.

Richmond Short Term Assessment and Treatment (RSTAT)

A registered dietitian is part of the Healthy Heart Program team and offers group education and individual counselling to help support nutrition and lifestyle changes. Outpatient Nutrition Counselling

604-204-2007 Individual nutrition counselling is provided for disease prevention, health promotion and nutrition management for clients. Clients may benefit from nutrition counselling related to general health, healthy eating, weight loss/maintenance and healthy heart; or, counselling for specific conditions (diabetes, Celiac or Crohn’s disease, other) or symptom management (specific concerns such as gastrointestinal disorders including but not limited to irritable bowel). Social and Recreation Services for Seniors’ Wellness Below is a list of the various Community Centres in Richmond. Many of these Centres conduct Seniors’ Wellness clinics where retired nurse volunteers are available to take blood pressure and discuss health concerns. Pharmacist consults available at some Centres. The health monitoring services are free of charge and do not require an appointment.
