of respondents were between 21 and 24 years of age, and nearly one fourth (24%) were between 25 and 30 years of age. The vast majority (87%) of respondents indicated they were graduating with a degree or certificate in spring 2015. Nearly four in five respondents indicated they were graduating with an associate degree only. Another 15% indicated they were graduating with an associate degree and a certificate, and 6% said they were graduating with a certificate only. Among respondents, the most popular programs of study were business/business administration, psychology, accounting, communication studies, kinesiology, and sociology. Less than one third of respondents (30%) indicated they had participated in special programs or student services during their time at Mesa College. The services utilized by the largest proportions of participants included counseling/education planning, tutoring, Transfer Center, and EOPS services. Only one in five respondents indicated they were involved in extracurricular activities during their time at Mesa College. Student clubs, athletics, and the Honors Program were among the most popular activities for respondents; however, it should be noted that overall participation rates for each of these activities fell between 5% and 7%. ILO Scale Averages On average, students rated their experiences at Mesa College favorably across all six ILOs. All scale averages were above 4.0 on a 5.0 scale. The Global Awareness scale had the highest average rating, followed by Communication, Critical Thinking, and Personal Awareness. Average ratings for Technological Awareness and Self-Awareness were slightly lower than those of the other ILO scales.

Critical Thinking Less than a quarter of the respondents provided comments regarding their critical thinking skill development. Among those who commented, the most common responses noted the following:

Specific faculty members or courses were particularly helpful in developing their skills in this area

Overall experience at Mesa was positive

Students experienced personal growth, development, and/or learned something they did not already know

Students already had the requisite skills but experience at Mesa refined them or enhanced them to a moderate degree

Q5. Please provide any comments you have regarding your responses to the above items. (n=73)

All Faculty and Staff were professional and I like to give special thanks to ****/Professor ****. I would not

have completed 71 units since Spring 2012 without her assistance and counseling. My current GPA is 3.58, PTK Honor Society member and was on SD Mesa College Dean's List 2013-14 (3.77 GPA). Invited to May 16 SD Mesa Graduate Commencement with "Honors" **** **** Veteran/DSPS Student

All of this really depends on the teacher. I learned how to do most of this during high school. All of those are qualities that you don't realize how fast you can greatly improve in until you join the

debate team at Mesa. That was when I noticed the change in myself and in the way I processed information.

All professors I have had the chance to learn from (good or bad) have taught me valuable lessons on how to investigate and come up with answers

Although most of the information I learned I've applied directly or indirectly to my job or daily activities or interactions with others. There are some things that will never be used.

An amazing staff with experience to share you can't get online Attending Mesa college has been such an amazing experience. I have become much more prepared and

adequately equipped to take on future challenges. Thank you to the staff for making my experience memorable.

basically all intro classes

Q5, Continued Better help with transferring Campus resources (e.g. counseling) were undoubtedly helpful! For the most part my biggest issues were balancing the home/school life as I have three kids. Good Deeds are known throughout Mesa College, Thank You Mesa! Good experiences in math and English. Great communication and black studies departments! I acquired many of these skills listed throughout the survey thanks to my participation in the Mesa

Forensics Speech and Debate team and my communication and sociology classes. I want to especially thank ****, ****, ****, and **** for being the most amazing professors during my time at Mesa.

I am not your typical student as I have many more years of experience and have learned most of these skills throughout my lifetime. My time at Mesa may not have taught me these skills but has reinforced them.

I am so thankful to have been a part of this wonderful school! It has been a privilege to be here. I can do all of these things well, but going to Mesa didn't influense me regarding them I definitely was given the opportunity to discuss ideas and views in class; however, I was disappointed

that teachers seemed to think their way was the only was and push that onto me. I feel like with the professors I had, I was able to develop a strong position when it comes to identifying

bias and my communication skills. I feel more secure in my workplace and I have more skill to solve real-world problems in my job. I feel that my skills and abilities listed above improved the most in Professor **** **** class. I feel that the course work at Mesa did a better job of prepearing me for work. I first attended Mesa College during the Fall 1969 Semester and have taken classes over the years for

personal growth which have allowed me to use the above skills coupled with experience. I had already learned most of these skills before college. I have always tried to do this things at the highest degree but I would like to encourage people to take

Sociology classes. The research, texts, discussions, and the teachers of this course make you think and critically analyze. This was a fun two semesters!

I have grown as an individual because of my time at Mesa I have grown so much while working towards my degree! My degree is relatively new and it is still a bit

hard to explain to other people what it is all about. But overall, I would not trade the past 3-or-so-years I had at Mesa College for anything. I am ready for my next challenges.

I have learned a lot that I didn't know before. I learned a lot from not only Music classes, but all of the teachers I have had for General Ed classes were

very organized, helpful, and very knowledgeable; all except one teacher. Through them, I was able to see beyond just academics.

I learned because I had to do it myself otherwise it wouldn't happen I learnt in detail about diet and its uses, which I am going to apply in my job to help the community as a

whole as well I can share the information with my family and friends in our day to day life to keep ourselves healthy and reduce health care cost.

I love the level at which my professors have expected me to perform and the positive feedback I've been given. I was hesitant at first to attend Mesa, but this school provides a great education. I enjoyed my time here.

I particularly benefited from teachers that engaged us in present day topics and debates. It gave be perspective to the past and what tireless work it takes and how slow things change/take effect.

i thought that the program was wonderful andi learned a lot in these two years here at Mesa I took so many classes, it is hard to judge my answers to these questions spread out over all of the

classes. My experiences were a little different in some of them. I would say Mesa college prepares students very well for the work environment. But honestly not at all for

the "real world". I attended both mesa and city, and in comparison to city mesa's is just a bunch of students nose deep in text books. City college staff is more hands on, the professors at least, they actually engage and interact with their students one on one. You really become a part of a community there. However Mesa college has great staff and faculty everything is great here it's just less interactive. I'd get very lonely if I was a full time student here. There's no one to talk to...

Q5, Continued I'm not the typical student; I'm in my early 50s, so I have a lot more life experiences than most students.

The courses I took at Mesa taught me a lot, but only helps me to a moderate degree in the grand scheme of things.

In terms of developing objective observations, I feel confident thanks to Mesa. Increase in these skills are minimal because of mu prior education and training It help me to open myself It was a learning experience. I've had a wonderful experience with my medical assisting program. I've had great professors and the best consolers! I've learned a lot of great things at Mesa that I'm sure will assist me in the future. All in all I'm glad I took

this route. Looks like all the philosophy courses I took have paid off. Lot's of tests, some instructors didn't know how to explain the material. It looked like the instructors cared

only about the good grades on the tests not the knowledge. By the end of the semester you remember only the current material. I had to go back and learn on my own.

Majority of the Instructors used effective ways of instruciton. Mesa and its professors have given knowledge that I use daily in my job. Mesa for the most part helped me improve in critical thinking. mesa has been able to help me with all of the above at least somewhat Mesa is an amazing place to start my college education and gain to tools necessary to succeed in upper

division classes. Most of these skills I developed in high school but they were refined at Mesa. My English **** class with **** was responsible for a lot of this. She is really a wonderful professor and I

learned a lot from her My language studies were greatly helped by courses in Communication. As a student I had instructors

who were very active in helping me find my path, and opening up opportunities like tutoring. My responses to these questions are fair and had no issues answering them. My speech skills are now better because of my experience at Mesa College. N/A (5) No No comment Overall I feel I had many great professors during my time at SDCCD. Please open child development courses such as 151,275, and 161. Really taught me to write affective arguments and have an opinion. Some of the skill will help me in the future Some Teachers are not good at all. They need to be retrain either with new methods or replace them with

Teachers with better degrees. The instructors at Mesa College were all willing to assist me with my writing and essay structuring. They

provided me with a lot of advice on what I should do for the next steps of my academic career. All positive advice and for that I am grateful.

The professors in the history department opened my eyes to events that are happing world wide through their lectures.

The tutoring center was very frustrating to use because of the tight availability of certain disciplines. There really needs to be a much better effort to create innovative teaching techniques from one year to

the next. If a teacher has been teaching for many years, they should have the built up skill sets, in teaching techniques, to insure a spectacular product of education, for the classes they teach.

Q7. Please provide any comments you have regarding your responses to the above items. (n=54) Again, as in my previous response, my life experiences as a person in my 50s provides me with a

different learning experience than a typical student. I have learned a lot at Mesa, but it only improved my skills and abilities moderately in the grand scheme of things.

All classmates and the instructors are very respectful. Before Mesa I acted with civility towards others, assessed the impact of human behavior on the world's

resources, acted with sensitivity toward others from a diverse cultural background, and was mindful of diverse backgrounds so though I feel I do all of these "to a great degree" it is not because of Mesa.

Debates in class brought more discussions about the lectures. Dignity over Pride is Eternal and worth it. During my time at Mesa College I was able to meet many people from different background. English 205 from a black history perspective did the most to help with these areas- it was a stellar class. For me my classes for dietary supervisor are the ones wich work great for me I'm already working as DSS

and everything I learn it at SDMesa Having had worked for many years before Mesa... I came in with many skills. Here we find students from various background. You just imagine the diversity age, gender, ethnicity,

color, nationality everyone is trying to improve their knowledge step by step with the help of excellent staff who are down to earth . Staff is always ready to walk extra mile to help you to achieve your goal. Help is above and beyond the expectation.

I am an Arabic woman. I never had any issues about that. Everyone is respectful and wonderful to me. I become more ethical and more conscientious I believe all people should be treated with respect. It does not matter what their religion, gender, or race

is. Mesa did create an environment that encourages diversity and equality and I like that. I believe my age and life experiences have already prepared me to be proficient in the areas above. If

anything I've been able to help the younger students see topics and views from a different angle. I can't remember the name of it - Tents of Truth, maybe? The group that comes to Mesa every year and

puts you in a different life, in others peoples positions, that had a big impact on me and I truly hope it is part of Mesa forever. It REALLY opened up my eyes and my heart to people from all areas of life.

I can't say civility and sensitivity towards others or even the impact of human's on the world's resources were impressed upon me while at Mesa. I gained these abilities by lessons learned in life and by watching educational programs and the BBC news network. Something I wished I had time for was to be able to read the conservation books shown on the first floor of the library.

I enjoyed my time in Mesa College not only for its great academics but also for its diversity. It seems a more natural environment, not something that I felt I needed to learn to deal with. If that makes sense.

I feel like we could make more of an effort to conserve our resources and leave less of a carbon footprint I feel like with Mesa's rich cultural diversity, I was able to understand people better. I gained a greater appreciation for cultural diversity at Mesa. I have built on my foundation to work more extensively with people with special needs I just want to be clear that just because I don't feel that Mesa College was the one to have improved

these skills, does not mean that I think it is inadequate at doing so.... Just that I have other people and places I have learned these skills from prior to taking classes here.

I learned any things that were not covered in high school I learned how to make friends and treat others with respect I like that some teacher make group project because in that way you can meet awesome people and

understand the different culture I think a lot of these I learned because of my major courses. I took Professor ****, Professor ****, and professor **** for all of my English classes. All 3 of them were

such amazing professors about opening our eyes to diverse cultures. Love all three of them! Such amazing professors!

I'm become more depressed and disenchanted the more I learn about the patterns of human choice and selfish actions but I see why for reasons of survival we must be so different.

Mesa College has definitely been a school that I will forever remember and treasure.

Q7, Continued Mesa college has definitely made me improved as an individual in terms of respecting other people's

appearances and beliefs. Mesa had people from all different types of backgrounds and I got to meet many of them. I really learned

a lot about current cultures and it showed me that I'm a pretty open minded person. Mesa has an incredible variety of instructors, each offering glimpses into other cultures. Chicano studies,

Dramatic Arts, Communication, and even Yoga offer great insights into the lives of others, and how to cope with stress.

Mesa is a very diverse school and that's the way it should be. Most schools are usually liberal in their approach which, in my experience, is the antithesis of sensitivity

and civility. Haven't noticed it that much at this campus since I've been taking a lot of computer classes.

My own life experience has also assisted with this, but I appreciate all that I've learned at Mesa to add to this.

N/A (5) need more ASL interpreters for all events on campus no No comment Respect other people Sensitivity is a slightly unclear term here. I am able to provide extra help or patience to people with

obvious disabilities regardless of their "diverse background". It is not my burden to be "sensitive" to people who do not look like me or from my cultural background. Now the question would be more interesting in this form: "Act with politeness and respect towards others as any normal, civilized culture or society teaches and values."

Some students in my class were very stereotype to others, including me. Hope instructors can split out better the students and do not allow groups as it has been happening.

Some teachers are bold and do not care to be sensitive to other cultural backgrounds. Taking the education 100 course actually provided me with the most sensitivity toward other cultures. My

other general education classes did not provide me with cultural sensitivities. Thankful to have opportunities to learn about other cultures, and diversity that is not always available at

other junior colleges Thanks for show us that everybody is equal no matter we are from. The information I have learned has enforced the importance of my own values and the impact they may

have on those around me. These skills were taught to me by my parents. too much diversity isnt always a goos thing....but mesa has taught me to be accepting of diversity. Total respectful of all the come through the door and that are walking on campus No response (374)

Absolutely hated doing group projects in multiple classes. It is too difficult to work as a group in college

due to different schedules among students. Again, being a person in my 50s, as well as serving in the U.S. Military for 22 years had given me many

skills. The education I have received from Mesa has been interesting and helpful, but I can't truly say it has greatly improved my skills and abilities in these areas.

All my GE classes were very important to me. My personality now is based on what I learned for the bast three years; thanks to all my perfessors.

Being an older student, I feel I had many of these traits before attending. Believing that my career can change the world Coming back to school has definitely been a positive experience. Coming to mesa college I learned what my major is and the field of research that I want to study. even though I made a plan, I could not complete it because of not-opened classes Every competent life which seeks purpose deserves all just choice to discover. A unique right that which I

will cultivate. Group work in my classes was often extremely problematic because many students showed no

involvement. I cannot find a job I did not have any relationships with any staff or professors. Some how I felt I slipped through the cracks,

no real mentors and any connection between me and a counselor would diminish since there is no specific counselor(s) assigned to me. I worked full time so I felt alienated from the school and neglected.

I have had a lot of personal growth in my time at Mesa. Becoming a tutor has been incredibly rewarding and has helped me find the areas where I must improve, and highlighted hurdles I never realized I finally got over until time came to assist others with the same struggles. This, and the encouragement of staff and faculty alike, has made my path to become a teacher a very clear one.

I learned to set my priories first I was able to make wise decisions thanks to my amazing counselor I'm currently in a career working fulltime but hope to further my upward mobility because of my education.

I've grown as a person. Lot's of team work which helps you to work with other people and respect their opinion. Mesa gives to the student a good environment where let my self feel confortable and show to the student

to respect each others mesa has helped me but not as much as it should. counselors need to be more proactive and make

things more clear Mesa has provided some resources to aid me in setting personal and career plans for myself. Mesa is very strong in these areas... Again... I came in with many skills Mesa provided an enviornment that supported my personal growth and helped give me a place to

practice and improve my skills Most of these skills had had developed before attending Mesa. My improvement in these areas have been due to other activities like work and church. My most influential have lead by example, all of them helped me become the understanding and

accepting individual I am today N/A (4) No comment (2) Professor **** and **** from nutrition program always take care of me fellow my grades and my classes to

Sky is the limit here. The counselors helped greatly in making the right decisions in my educational path. The most important thing i learned at mesa was goal setting, it is what provided me the opportunity to get

great grades the years i have been in mesa i have seen a lot of personal growth There needs to be more avialable resources for guidance in these areas. The counseling department has

been zero help to me, thankfully I had other resources but some do not. I believe there would be a higher success rate of students if this area was funded more.

Through my internship, I have not only had the ideas to make a "Non-Profit," or two! But I've found my real purpose in life! This could have only been accomplished with the help of Mesa's DSPS department and my internship at the San Diego Food Bank! Thank you for all your help!

Again, being a person in my 50s, as well as serving in the U.S. Military for 22 years had given me many

skills. The education I have received from Mesa has been interesting and helpful, but I can't truly say it has greatly improved my skills and abilities in these areas.

Again, the debate team means that there is a lot of team work involved as well as spending time with the same people that aren't just other students but also our coaches/instructors.

Asking other for help in time of need Being with the same people 12+ hours a day 5 days a week really forces relationships on you Despite truth to ones deposition, another's stubbornness can delay ultimate perfection. Did many group activities and learned about their past events that contributed to our projects. Due to the nature of my studies, collaboration hasn't been a factor. There is a huge age disparity

between the average student at Mesa and me, so it's a bit difficult to relate. Some of the instructors are outstanding and are more of an age that I can relate to on an individual basis.

Few professors were warm enough to develop a relationship with them. For the most part, Mesa College has provided me with many opportunities to improve in working

effectively with others. Friendly staff helps to develop, self confidence and boost your moral. Good group of student of all ages respectful of everyone has helped me prepare for work skills

Q11, Continued Honestly, it wasn't until I got more involved with on campus activities that I felt like I was truly part of a

community, that I could make a difference, and my presence here was somehow meaningful. I am not a team player. Being made to work in teams by my instructors was challenging, but good for my

personal growth. I've kept in touch with some of my instructors. They have helped me to develop my skills in my major and my career.

I became a member of the Student Veterans Organization and that was the best decision I could have ever made! While there, I was surrounded by the best peers and mentors I could have asked for!

I did most of my coursework online so my interactions with other students was limited. I enjoy collaborating with peers just as much as working by myself. I have had plenty of opportunities for

group projects while here at Mesa. I feel the majority of my instructors were very kind, helpful and approachable! I felt alienated from my professors and school. Working full time (did not meet criteria for financial aid, my

demographic does not qualify for any scholarships) prevented me from being immersed and enriched by anything (IF anything) that the school has to offer.

I meet great instructors and peers I went to school to learn and not so much to develop strong relationships with others, although, everyone

that I have crossed paths with has been really nice! In my time at Mesa, I've worked on Physics labs, run lines for plays in multiple languages, led workshops

on language and communication, created a piece of cultural art, and assisted student and colleague on the path to success. My time at Mesa has made me confident in my own skills, and the importance of teamwork.

It was fun in moSt of my classes. I've learned to apply all the things that I learned from my instructors to my clinical site and I've gotten

great feedback from the site supervisor more towards the end of my time at mesa i have been fortunate to meet many professors who truly care

for my future plans My collaborations with others were mainly in a classroom setting. N/A (4) Networking has become one of my best assets, many professors have helped me understand that it's one

of the most important character traits one can have No comment Now I'm a better team player One thing I couldn't have time for while I was student is spending time with my friends or classmates.

The time isn't enough to study and work. So I didn't have a lot of friends because of that. Project participation widely varies from teacher to teacher. There should be a standard of mandatory

participation, as well as, separate grades for every member. SD Mesa Veteran Services Certifying Officer **** and her staff were instrumental expediting my VA

Some students did not work or allow other students to be a good team. Teachers push us to work with others students and not only with student, they are always available to

help student with anything related to the class. The Instructor always were great always trying to help with lessons and personal experiences on the field The instructors at Mesa have been absolutely outstanding. Despite their greatness, many of the students

are not capable of doing even the simplest assignments. The teachers and friends I made at Mesa College are people I will never forget. Teachers were like

second parents and friends were very supportive. These tactics are going to be useful in workforce. No response (386)

I think my drive to do well influenced my success. Being at a big college requires looking into all the information yourself and making sure you are on the right track.

I think my instructor or professors influence my success. I think the professors I had most influenced my success. All the professors I had were very good at what

they teach, kept the classes interesting and students engaged, and seemed genuinely concerned for us to be successful.

I was influenced by the enormous amount of people who were successful in their schoolwork and their dedication.

I would say the level of work that my professors expected out of me. The fact that I knew that expected top of the line work pushed me to work towards that.

Q16, Continued THE LIBRARY. If the library were not open until 10pm I would not have been able to complete my

studies. The LRC was my sanctuary and best friend in accomplishing everything. The hours made it great for me to begin studying at 7 before class and helped get most of my work done through the night. If the library was 24 hrs I would not leave. I AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR LRC HOURS---DON'T CHANGE THEM

Q17. What was the biggest challenge you faced while at Mesa College? (n=338)

Accepting the fact that the English classes are biased and not standardized. Adapting to school again after 9 years of abscence due to service in the Marines. Adding classes I needed due to them being full Adjusting to teaching styles for the business math courses. Algebra An instructor's inability to teach his/her class making it harder for students to learn or pass the course.

Parking can be hard at times. Applying what I learn to my career of choice As I mentioned in #16, having discovered the different resources Mesa College has to offer. Attempting to find my self-confidence to tackle the responsibilities as an active member of the academic

Being able to pass all the classes needed to transfer Being able to stay focused when I felt like my life wasn't exactly on track. Being able to support myself financially and emotionally through the PTA program because of how hard

and time committed I had to be. Being hearing impaired and learning in a non native language (English) being rejected from sdsu twice with no explanation Being the old guy on campus and relearning skills Being with many young, immature kids. biggest challenge, Anatomy class. Biggest challenged faced was parking!!!!!! Calculus 1 Calculus and Computer Programming classes Certain professors not treating all students fairly. Some professors don't allow each and every student to

provide proof of an excused absense; In turn this has hindered some students' grades including my own.

Choosing a career path, every time I went to talk to a counselor I got different answers and routes I should take.

harrassed by many of the male students while waking to class. Eating something that wasn't greasy and triple the price. There I had seen a nutrigrain bar being priced at

Going back to school after not having been in a college classroom for nearly 30 years. Going from a four year to a cc Going to Class on time Group discussion by English Group projects Handling a heavy course load. Have a job and go to school Having counselors be negative in regards to transferring to a university. I have several classes that I was

told to take which I ended up not needing (wasted time and money). I was told not to bother trying to transfer since I was short 2 classes on the curriculum. Thankfully, I listened to a friend who said to apply anyway and I got in. Had I listened to the counselor, I would have had to wait a full year. Please provide better training to the counselors.

Having the confidence in myself to pass all the chemistry, biology, and physics classes needed. Having to balance my time between work and school. Life doesn't stop just because you go to school.

Also, it is hard not to compare yourself to others while you are at a community college. So just keeping focused and not feeling any less that a student at a 4 year university. Even though Mesa is so much more affordable and a great place to go.

Having to raise my 2 young children and succeed at school Having to retake courses I had taken on a term system because they did not fulfill a semester

requirement was frustrating. Higher class cost and hold life Holding myself to a much higher caliber of success. As a teenager, I was only interested in passing

classes. As an adult, returning to school I aimed for A's every time and learning my limits is important.

Horrible teachers I faced little resistance and that helped a lot. I felt like I'd get stuck in a class and didn't know who to talk to cause friends and family are busy, so I'd fail

a class on purpose so I could try a second time. I wished often there was just an emotional support room where people could just go to lie down breath deeply and sooner some mentor would walk by and ask to listen to me and hear me out.

I felt there was no guidance from the school. Also that 2 or 3 of my teachers needed to be reevaluated. I had a terrible Algebra teacher. She would scream at her students ad very discouraging to everyone. I had no major problems while attending mesa. I really liked all the counselors I spoke with on a personal level, but I do feel like a lot of times they didn't

have all the information and in an already confusing process that was a big bummer. I think the greatest challenge was getting to Mesa with transportation. I had to carpool a lot and ended up

missing a few classes here and there.

I was a lot older than most of the students who were taking classes during the day. however I understand that the majority of the night time students were in my age group. but because of the different schedules I rarely met a student who had shared life experiences.

I was challenged primarily in a positive and constructive way. The English department at Mesa has a very great staff that challenges students to think critically and express themselves eloquently in writing.

I work full time and travel so fitting my school schedule into that took extra planning. I, as well as fellow classmates, have had difficulty learning from the Mesa Chemistry professors. Namely

the lecture classes, not the lab portions. Time and time again I was met with different instructors who all seemed uninterested in trying to make a very confusing subject any easier to understand. My frustrations were with professors not wanting to answer questions, testing on material completely different from the lecture content, and a very obvious inconsistency in the facts that the different teachers are teaching. What I mean is, things I learn in one chemistry class are refuted by another and professors blatantly tell us that the other professor was incorrect. This makes learning what is already very difficult to learn, even harder and more frustrating.

It is very hard to register and there is no guidance. The transcript policy is stupid...why would we have transcripts sent unless we wanted them evaluated??

It took me a long time to figure out what it was that I actually wanted to study. That was stressful at times, but it all worked out.

It was biology *** with lab with professor **** It was difficult to find the right counsel It was hard not being able to get all my classes at Mesa and having to commute from Mesa to City in

The biggest challenge for me is complacency because being a full time student was tought The biggest challenge I faced at Mesa college was finding a sense of community and belonging. Most

people here are only here for a short while so it's hard to build strong, lasting relationships. Getting more involved with student clubs has helped broaden my experience here, but I wish that more students got involved and weren't afraid of establishing roots, even if just for a short while.

The biggest challenge I faced at Mesa was probably understanding the matriculation system to get the courses my degree/ academic path depended on.

The biggest challenge I faced was deciding what I wanted to major in, I probably changed my mind around four times. I think it's important to view that other disciplines, like the arts and social sciences, are just as valid as STEM.

The biggest challenge I faced was not knowing what I wanted to do for my major. The biggest challenge I faced was setting a goal for getting my associates degree and transferring.

There's really no follow up at all with counselors after your first semester, which makes sense for college, but a small amount of accountability from the college to follow up would have been a possible kick in the pants to get my degree done.

The biggest challenge I faced was when I was working full-time, going to school full-time, and riding the bus.

The biggest challenge was accepting my change in career and accepting a semi-sabbatical year. Where I had intended to transfer after finishing my GEs.

The biggest challenge was my home life. It's tough trying to balance family, work, and school. Sometimes I would run into difficulty trying to create time to do my homework.

The biggest challenge was the English language and being able to comprehend what was I being taught.I was raised in another country and the language was the first barrier to overcome!!

The challenge was being able to get through all my classes and sticking to high grades to graduate. The commute The counseling office giving me wrong information and contradicting each other. Q18. What was the most important thing you learned during your experience as a Mesa College student? (n=319)

A comprehensive understanding of my major Achievements can be made at your own pace. After absent 10 years from formal education, the enjoyment of learning new subjects as small progressive

steps towards achieving academic and professional milestones. Always is important have a good co munication with the rest of the people Always keep up with deadlines. Analysis skill analyze and question information presented to me in my daily life Anything is possible when asking for help As a Mesa College Student I learned that student involvement is crucial. It is so beneficial to be apart of a

club or organization on campus. I was privileged to be in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society so I had the chance to meet some extraordinary students and advisers.

Aside from all that I studied, Mesa taught me the actual importance of community. I've always felt like an individual and see the things in the details rather than the whole image. Being at Mesa definitely taught me how to interact with not only professors but also to become a positive influence among my peers. Thus giving me the opportunity to work with a team and making sure our voice as students was heard.

and friendly people on campus. It's a lot of fun getting to know people on campus. I can achieve anything i want as long as i put in the work I can do this i did learn to organize my time by visiting the library I don't really know. This is a hard question to answer. I gained a new confidence in myself! I get the education I sign up for. Most professors used every minute of class time. I have learned a lot from the classes I have took I have learned that working hard and being patient are huge benefits to accomplishing goals. I learn a lot. I learned a lot about my major just this semester. I was able to learn different opportunity within my major

and I was also able to communicate with my professors better I learned a lot about myself from Chicano and anthropology classes. I realized my weaknesses in

communication classes. I found deep appreciation for art in the 100 class and the most important was realizing my impact can be huge on the word and the only thing stopping me is me.

I learned a lot, and I'm better person I learned a lot, but probably the importance of making an effort and managing my time wisely I learned how to learn. I learned how to manage and judge my school and work schedule. I learned how to write essays American way I learned that a good work ethic and commitment are the best way to achieve long term goals. I learned that California is extremely diverse, so I have a lot of competition in my field of study. I learned that everyone comes from a different background, and that I shouldn't judge others before I get

to know them. I learned that everything is possible if you work hard. I learned that it IS possible to have 2 jobs and go to school. I learned that one can waste a lot of time enjoying inexpensive college courses, and neglect pursuing

further education and career opportunities. I learned that success does not come in an easy way but the struggles are what bring it. I learned that there are many talented young people in the world. I had so much fun going to school with

students that are my children's ages. I learned to appreciate multiple, diverse viewpoints. I learned to manage multiple classes I learned to respect others religion and background I learned to set your priories first than other things like going out and being with friends. If I want to learn a subject, it is up to me to teach myself that subject. If there's a will there's a way! If you work hard, you will succeed. If you're not sure, ask questions. Don't be shy about it because there's always others who are wondering

the same thing. i'm capable and will succeed Independence

Q18, Continued Interaction with instructors. It is how you react to situations that impact you It is important to push yourself to succeed. Nothing is going to be a cake walk. Never settle for less than

your full potential. It's Okay to fail as long as you get up and try harder the next time I've discovered what I wanted to do with my life. Keep trying. Education is a personal goal that serves the broader community. Keeping looking forward. Keep working towards your goal. Knowing that there is a wide diversity within the student body and that I can learn more not only in class

but through talking with other students as well. Knowledge is power. learn how to find parking in crowded places. learn more English ,and meet a many and good people, Learning how to use everything I learned for current and future refrences. Also taking everything I learned

to build my skills and get to the goals I have. Learning to manage, life, love, work, and school. make connection. Make decisions that will positively impact my future. Make friends! Mathematics Mesa College influenced me to pursue what I wanted versus what people told me to do. I changed my

major and though it was a challenge to have to drop my chem lecture and lab in the end it was also worth it because I will be studying something I enjoy.

N/A (3) Networking (2) Networking unstructors always tell you how dietary is a small bussiness and everyone know each other

so work hard to make always a good imagen from you Networking, specially in my industry is a big factor. School is not only a classroom, is a way to meet new

people and make them part of your career path Never give up (2) Never give up on my dreams, and there is always someone willing to help me if I am willing to help

myself. Never give up on my goals. Never give up, and expect to get what you put in Never give up. Even if you have a difficult start to a course, work hard, get extra help, and you can

achieve success (or at minimum a passing grade!) Never live without passion. Once you discover something you truly love never let it go, it'll fuel your flame. No matter how important my education is, I still have to put my health first in order to succeed. Not give up, don't take no for an abswer Not only is physics hard, but the teachers are just as hard, like a ****. Not to doubt myself as a student, and how to apply myself to difficult subjects Not to give up even when I don't think I can do it, and I learned that if I felt like i couldn't do it that would

give me more of a reason to do it and do it right. Joining the swim team also taught me to work hard even when you don't want to.

Not to miss class. Nothing is impossible One's age, financial background and personal schedule are not a hindrance to learning. It's never too late

to go back to school. Organization parking sucks but dont let that stop you from coming late to class Pay attention closely in your classes. People have different attitude Perseverance is key Perseverance.

Q18, Continued Procrastination is not a good trait Program language Public relations. The ability to communicate with a variety of people in a meaningful way with supporting

information to prove my motives. Push forward Push myself, and always make sure others are doing good too. putting in the effort to finish assignments even when exhausted Question everything Read book, Do enough home work , listen to my professor and Study with professor who I like. Respect everyone. Responsibility Responsibility and valuing yourself as a person Running towards your problems, and tackling them head on. Instead of running away from them. School should be about getting a good education not about job training. Self discipline Setting goals is important Skills Some of the younger students seem to be less tolerant of those with whom they disagree, especially if

they tend to lean to the left, for example, there have been times where I've been accosted by people trying to "save the planet" through Greenpeace and they have to be some of the most insensitive people I've ever encountered.

Stay ahead of things and get a schedule and routine quickly each semester Stay focused on fewer projects Stay focused, organized don't fall behind. Stay on top of the assignments Staying focused on your goals Study skills and time management Studying Success in the program is the responsibility of each student, unless you have to complete DCP hours and

you're at the mercy of someone else's schedule. Success is attainable as long as we put our mind to it. take college seriously. Taking care of my own That a student must be proactive when it comes to there education. That good work ethic and and focus are key That I am a capable and intelligent individual. That I am capable of achieving my academic goals. that I can achieve anything That I can challenge myself and accomplish my goals. that i can do anything That I can excel even at my age, and that school is now a skill that I do well. That I can make a difference. That I can succeed at learning and getting good grades That I can... Receive a 4.0 while enrolled in 18 units, succeed and excel in this field. That I love sociology and am excited to continue my career path in that field. That I should have done better in High School. That if I do not do well I have no one to blame but myself. If I give my best I get the best. That if you work hard enough and enjoy people anything is possible. That is is possible to understand subjects I previously had a mental block on, its amazing if you try and

ask what you can learn. That it is ok to make mistakes as long as we learn from them. That it's ok to fail and criticism makes you better That many counselor's aren't doing their job and don't care about the student's success, not all counelsor

but many that I have interacted with at mesa.

Q18, Continued That Mesa College offers second chances for those who struggled on 4-yr colleges and open doors to

people That Mesa is even better the second time around. Learning at Mesa feels like it has more of an impact

on me than at other schools. That my mind relies on my body, and vice versa. I cannot neglect one or the other starts to fail. I've

bounced back from life threatening illness, and dramatic surgery, and I haven't let it phase me. I'm not broken, I'm reinforced.

That no matter how hard that internal banter is telling you to give up, especially when failing a test, that you DO NOT GIVE UP! EVER!

That no one but yourself really cares what your grades are and that's how it should be. That nobody is going to do the work for me, or check that I am doing what I should be doing. I had to

learn to hold myself accountable for me. That nothing is impossible if you really want it. I will be transferring to UCSD next fall. That the best thing I can do to be successful is to focus on how much I actually enjoy learning That the dental community is very small. That the efforts as well as numerous sacrifices invested on my education will never be rendered useless

or unnecessary. I was able to learn even from the most disappointing 'failures'. I got up, tried again and got it right at times and made new mistakes at others. It is life, what can say? The important thing is to never give up.

That the possibilities are endless and I didn't "just" go to a community college... I went to MESA COLLEGE.

That there are a lot of great young students trying to make a difference in the world. That there are people willing to help me succeed That there is a lot I can do, and I should not limit myself to retail or cashier jobs. I have the skill level to

seek out internships and higher paying jobs. That you can still learn at any age. That your original plan doesn't have to be the only plan. The acceptance of others, and emerging myself into different cultures The college provides a tremendous amount of help and support to ensure student success, so use those

sources as much as possible. The tutoring center and DSPS office were really great. The importance of a college degree and the opportunities that are created from education. The importance of absorbing information rather than knowing it solely to pass a course. Being at Mesa, all

of the information I learned in my classes have helped with upper-level courses and real-life situations. The material is not only being used to pass tests, but also in real-world situations.

The importance of academic independence The importance of being time efficient. The importance of building a strong relationship with my professors. The importance of preserverence with goal setting The importance of setting deadlines to complete tasks. Studying outside of the class room. Prioritizing

school work. The importance of time management. The it's great to be involved in clubs because it enriches my college experience the more you work and want it the faster it comes The most important thing I believed I learned was how to engage in critical thinking and how I can apply it

to all my courses the most important thing I learned during my experience is to never give up because nothing is

impossible. The Most important thing I learned during my experienced as a Mesa College student is when you need

the help go and get the help that is needed. They have all the information that you are looking for or can help you find.

Q18, Continued The most important thing I learned while here at Mesa College is that every experience you have is truly

what you make of it. I could have gone by this whole year solely focused on moving on to the next educational institution and have been miserable here, but once I decided that my time spent here would be worthwhile, I found so many awesome opportunities and people that I wouldn't have experienced otherwise.

The most important thing I learning during my experience at Mesa College is that networking and career exploration is extremely important to achieving academic and career goals.

The most important thing that I learned as a Mesa College student was that it is okay to be alone, you get to do things a lot faster and actually get things done in school.

The most important thing that I learned was that everyone has something to bring to the table. The most important thing was to study hard but the most important factor on this was that I was going to

have the tutor center to help me in my path. The most important things I learned while at Mesa would be: perseverance, time management and self

motivation. The most thing I learned was that even though you could know a lot, you still learn every day so one must

keep an open mind when out in the world. the opportunities that mesa provides to students once he or she is committed to a specific goal. The social life The value of my profession The world is yours, but only if you go and take it. There are no obstacle with the DSPS support There are people there from all backgrounds, all ages, all walks of life, and that is perfectly okay. It's

given me a sense of a peace, knowing that even if I chose the wrong road now, I can always be welcomed back at school again.

There was only one class that I thought was good: Computer Technology. Think independently Time & Space is sacred, must study hard.. for one of few are given thee opportunity-chance to discover

and contribute all they got to Jesus Christ. I've learned one must Honor their position granted in life, for you only get one chance to define.

Time is finite. Time management (2) Time management and consistency. Time management and what my priorities are. Time management skill. Time management so I dont procrastinate. To always be organized and early. To always look at ratemyprofessor.com To be diligent and industrious on my own accord, to stay on top of assignments and to learn to prioritize

my daily responsibilities in order to be as successful as student that I possibly can. Also, there is no faking honest hard work.

to be involved in the learning process and soak up every bit of information up as you can. Challenge yourself

To be open to new ideas and to not shy away from new people. To be open to others opinions and learn from your mistakes. To be understanding towards different ethnicity and values. To become in as many different things as possible and to take advantage of all the resources at your

disposal. To continue to achieve your goals no matter how old or young you are with or without limitations. To do what you love and love what you do. To enjoy the learning experience. To find success sometimes you have to leave things that you are most familiar with, literally, I had to drive

20 mile each direction to get to school. To focus on the little goals instead of the big one to learn as much as i can

Q18, Continued To learn to see your self in other students To listen and be mindful To make the most out of everything. To meet with teachers during their office hours. To ask questions. To network To never give up even when things get overwhelming. To never give up no matter how long it takes. I was off and on with community college for 10 years. In

that time I was lost and had no idea what I wanted to do for a career. Eventually, I took classes that interested me and now I am on the right path at SDSU in my senior year.

To never give up on myself as it's always possible to achieve what you desire To never procrastinate on things, they just pile up. To not give up when you fall behind and instead to move forward. To stand up for what I want and need To take life seriously. To time manage and planning. to understand diversity more To work hard! It took a lot of determination to graduate and prosper into a four year university. But the

efforts were well worth it! Try hard and keep going, only you can do what you need to do for yourself tutoring everyday and visit counselors every month Use the resources Use the resources available to you. People are there to help. Utilize tutoring!!! Way too hard to say without spending a few days thinking about it... I guess its just that it is really

important to invest in yourself and your education, to be true to yourself, to work for what you want. I already knew these things, I think my experience just confirmed it.

We all make a difference. What I wanted to major in and reintroduced me to dance What I'd like to do for my future career. work as team and be open mind Work hard and be consistent. Work hard and you will get good grades Work harder Writing and computer skills. You can succeed at any age You must make friends in your classes. You must. No response (110)

Q19. What could Mesa College have done to improve your learning experience? (n=293)

? A little more critical thinking Actually listen to students when there are complaints about professors and the poor tagging quality. One

of my professors was fired a few days before the final and left us all in limbo. add more classes for math and English. Each year I took one it was at least 50 students and only 30

could get in or so. Again, there needs to be a reconstruction of the counseling department. I know they are understaffed but

without knowledge from friends I wouldn't have had any direction to what classes I needed to take. Also they should tell people that some out of state schools you don't need 60 units and help you figure out fully your options.

Allow for students with true complaints regarding a professor and how hey're not treating all students equally to be heard. And a chance for someone of higher authority to speak with them prior to each semester being over to discuss the students' issues.

Q19, Continued Although some of the professors made my experience great, others really ruined my experience with their

teaching. An internship is required to graduate with my degree and luckily I was able to score one. I reached out for

help in finding one and had no success. I was lucky that the only internship that I knew of and applied for was meant to be. Though it is very competitive and I was 1 of 6 chosen of over 50 applicants. Since this is a requirement for graduation it would help to have someone helping in finding opportunities, especially since many of us are not form this area and don't have community ties and connections. If I hadn't gotten this internship I wouldn't be graduating and that's a bummer. There should be coordinator who can help with this.

As stated before, like a business, teaching innovation and skill set should improve from year to year. A long tenure teacher should be an expert at reading a class and adjusting the teaching techniques to that class to provide a great product.

As stated earlier, better guidance from the counselors as to which classes to take would have improved my learning experience. Without the wasted time and money spent on classes I did not need, I would have been more motivated and more than likely earned better grades in my pre-reqs.

At times I didn't agree with the professor's use of the time given, but I am going to consider that a personal opinion and not a failing of the school.

be closer to home haha. Be more consistent on the counseling program. be more cultural diversity Better class times Better class times so it is easier to support myself while going to school. Make the PTA program

nonstop... meaning, no summer break. For technical or medical programs... that long break does nothing but negative.

Better councilor feed back- Better counseling. Better faculty Better faculty; they need to be more engaged and compassionate. Better help at transfer/career center Better information coming from the counselors Better parking accommodations. Better tutor service Broader range of clubs to join can not think of anything Consistency of counseling Counseling. In the end my experiences were helpful and positive but in the beginning they not as much. Couple more meetings with professor Crack down more on under-performing students because they hold the rest of us back. Those whose

work isn't up to par should be failed. Many students wind up with no knowledge coming into classes with prerequisites because their professors weren't tough enough.

Create an environment where students are nudged to work together. A culture of togetherness where students can feel comfortable and enthused to help each other learn. Thus, creating a school where we are excited to attend in order to learn with peers we can relate to.

Create better learning schedules that fit into work and business scenarios Create more school spirit Cut down on the bureaucracy Definitely hiring better counselors. I had a counselor make me cry once and she did not help in any way

whatsoever. Definitely promote the student organizations more. I think because of community college's reputations a

lot of people are embarrassed that they are here and so they don't get involved and just keep their head down for 2 years. I think both the college and the student would benefit so much more if there was a really strong feeling of community and solidarity so people would be excited to come to campus and once they graduate they can be proud to say that they went here.

didn't enjoy the modular village and parking shortage

Q19, Continued Do away with mandatory on site exams for hybrid online courses. Do in class reviews of every professors so you can identify and reward the best teachers and weed out

people that shouldn't be teaching. Professor **** was a joke - I learned patience in his class. Also do a better review of the way online classes take place. Professor **** shouldn't be teaching online classes in any way shape or form.

Drink more coffee Efficient parking for students! 1 hour driving in circles, creates frustration. It destroys ambitions. Dig down

within earth to create parking structures, and abolish those sanctions against students formed by selfish community residents.

engage the student body more. invite to clubs or be part of amazing projects. Ensure the counselors are giving facts as opposed to opinion. **** told me at the end of one semester I

had to take spanish 101 the following semester and 102 the next. After finishing 101 and talking to a different counselor I was told that I did not need spanish 101 or 102 and had just wasted 5 units that semester. This past semester I talked to a counselor just to make sure I had all the classes completed needed to transfer to UCSD. The counselor told me that I was a missing a humanities but UCSD would still admit me and may even forgive that class altogether. When I spoke to the UCSD counselor, she said there was no way I'd get admitted without the humanities. The counselors at Mesa are horrible. Please replace all of them with people who care about doing their job well.

Evaluate which teachers can improve upon based on average grade and withdrawal rates even the ones with years there. If they're already evaluated in that way or similar form then perhaps evaluate more frequently.

Everything, for me Mesa is the best because I learned a lot for my future extend library hours provide more child development courses(especially 151 and 275) Extend the library's hours and build more parking Extend their PTA program. Faster wifi Find professor who are seriously devoted to helping students learn and not just be narcissistic ****. Finding a comfortable place to study that has computers and couches and tables, all expected to be a

quiet area in respect for everyone. With good chairs please! Those wide chairs with no wheels, armrests, seat cushioning or height adjustment are aweful.

Finish construction of the new Psychology building about 3 years sooner :) Focus more on it's student life and let students know that they're not alone! Bring some life to Mesa

College. The campus is too beautiful for everyone to just be walking around like zombies all day. Give us more curriculum on transfer because it changes every year and we never know what happens Given AHT our own wifi earlier than my last semester here Gone onto rate my professor and see which professors are there to actually teach and not just there to

fail students Good Gotten financial aid when it was owed to me Greater school spirit. Had faster wifi and a library open 7 days a week. Had more seats or more open core classes available for students. Also perhaps have more counselors

available. I remember there was one occurrence where It took me a month before I could see a counselor.

Had the new buildings built earlier haha i missed out on seeing all of the new buildings. Have a better cafeteria. Food options were the only down turn at Mesa. Have a more helpful staff at times. Have an easier way to get in contact with counselors. Have better parking so I wouldn't have to spend extra hours on campus (because I would have to come

early to find parking) Have better registration priority. As you reach the end it is harder to get the classes you need. Healthy

students who are not ex-military have a harder time getting the classes they need. Have clubs meet on more days so that everyone can have a chance to meet.

Q19, Continued Have extended hours for the essential student resources such as the tutoring center and the computer

lab. have instructors enforce conduct code Have more activities to encourage more interactions between students. Have more available classes Have more Biology tutors. Have more classes. Have more community, school, and volunteer events to gain outside experiences and skills Have more involved teachers! (: Have more online classes available Have more parking so I wasn't late to class Have more parking. Bookstore pricing was outrageous. Have more resources for homeless students Have some more conservative instructors. Have staff that actually care about their jobs and helping students transfer. Having construction finished. Spent most of my time in the modular village. Having more classes and parking lots for students who wants to chive their goal for a better future help me a lot , Hire better CISC professors Hire counselors who have a passion for students success and succeeding. Being a counselor isn't just a

job, students listen and take to heart what these counselors say therefore you have to have a passion for want students to succeed,

Honestly the quality is superb, so not much at all I always miss the events on campus, so I would like to see more notice on events. I am pleased with my learning experience. I can't really think of anything. I could've personally studied more and became more involved with extra curricular activities. I don't know, every student have plan to study different. I don't know. I don't really know, I enjoyed everything I don't think I needed to take Chemistry 150 as I took it in high school so it was a review class and frankly

a waste of a learning experience; I think the pre-requisites for classes needs to be re-examined and there is a lack of communication to students.

I don't think Mesa itself as an institution could actually do anything in the sense that some of the professors don't give 100 percent. But it would be unrealistic to pick out teachers. So in my opinion, Mesa is doing a great job.

I don't think there is anything I would change! I attended various colleges and by far this had been my most favorite experience

I had a good experience at Mesa College so no real improvement was necessary. I had some TERRIBLE instructors. Specifically ****. Worst professor I've encountered in six semesters of

college. Absolutely disrespectful towards students and picked out minorities in the class as if they represented the whole group.

I hope with the new buildings the accommodations are better. And please hire new Teachers with better credentials. The DSPS Technical Lab should have Tutors from Higher Maths: Like Math121, Stats 119 and above not below.

I just wish there was a penalty less severe then a year-long suspension for missing a final. I love this school, I think everyone was helpful. I really believe that mesa college is a great college. They couldn't be better. I strongly believe in making mandatory internships on the career we all students-individually- follow. That

will greatly impact our learning. I think it is great when professors do hands on teaching. If some of my classes visited business settings

our had guest speakers in my field of study that would have been amazing. I think it was all really just up to me, how much I would learn.

Q19, Continued I think Mesa should keep offering computer- and technology-based classes, including to the public or

those who aren't enrolled in a program. For example, I am in the interior design program and it was, to my knowledge, the only school in the area offering REVIT to adults. It was great to have classmates who are already working in the field. The architects and designers improve their skill set and the enrolled students get to interact with seasoned professionals. It's a win-win for everyone.

I think my learning experience was great I think that if a student is doing well enough in their coursework to be a Honors Society member, that

there should be more of outreach to show that student the benefits of being a part of the honor society.

I want to get a programming certificate and I only need two classes to do so CISC 190 Java which is available all of the time and CISC 210 which is never available. The last time it was offered it was canceled before the semester even started.

I wish there was a more organized club day or club fair where I could see what is available. I would have liked to join the debate team at Mesa College but I never got around to seeing where they met or what class I needed to take.

I would have liked all my classes to have air conditioning. By now they might. I would have liked to test equipment before committing to a class that may not fit in my budget. EX: Music

studio. I would like that more classes were available and it would of been easier to access help from counselors Improve all class rooms Improve parking improved parking, more online classes Include computer-oriented classes as online only classes, not hybrids. Increase the number of courses in high demand available. Increasing more basic classes like English, theres not enough. instructors who do not enjoy their job/not there to help students Invest time into individuals; I feel like we are herded around like cattle and are not given any attention to.

For people that actually want to succeed; we should be given help and understanding, my whole tenure here has been grueling and exhausting just to get around the administrative aspects.

It was almost impossible to register for the classes I needed. This happened to me two semesters in a row. I still could not enroll in a Biology or Chemistry class.

It would be more convenient if there is more available parking, as at times it hampers my ability to conveniently get from one class to another.

It would be nice to have more classes available...It's not fun to have multiple campuses to drive to in one day. Though this didn't happen to me often, most people I talk to attend more than one campus. There was only one year of my three years here that I had all my classes at the same campus.

It would be nice to not have a drum circle going on on campus outside the science building during midterms. Super distracting 2 semesters in a row.

Joined clubs Keep me informed on activities going on on campus. Keep recruiting good people and maintain or keep the good intructors you already have. less PowerPoint lectures getting students more engaged made the classes more Challenging. Major guide. Step by step guide for each thing needed on your major Make figuring out my future easier. Make parking easier, be a tiny bit less restrictive with attendance, make counselors more available and

accessible. It is a nightmare trying to get an appointment with them. Make sure all of the counselors were more knowledgeable Make sure all professors have the ability to teach with new technologies and are taught current ways of

teaching students. Make the classes more challenging making all the resources more well known to the student body and how important school is. Making the counseling office more friendly, with a better first hand staff.

Q19, Continued Maybe advertise more clubs. Maybe arrange a meeting with a counselor on the first day? I fell like I really had to work hard to even

meet with one. But I understand there is a large amount of students. And I do feel like I did well prior and of course after meeting with one.

Maybe extended the library hours, so students have more access to it. Maybe look into a few of the classes before taking them just because the counselor said I needed them. Mesa can improve by not being so harsh regarding absences and tardies. There were students that

would show up to class and not learn, but get a good grade just for being there. There were other students that showed improvement and were hard workers when it came to assignments but because they weren't always there got unfortunate grades. It should be about learning not just attendance.

Mesa College is PERFECT. Mesa College was a great experience. I took a lot of night courses because I worked during the day, so

seeking the help I needed was a bit challenging for me. However, I wished there was more GE courses that was offer in the evening.

Mesa has prepared me to continue working and focusing on my graduate and post-graduate goals. Mesa is a great campus Mesa is great Message college is great school I have learned English in advanced level through highly academic

learning process which allowed me to improve rapidly More class interaction rather than just straight lectures. More classes (3) More classes available More communication and more opportunities to learn about different majors. More contact with the students, sometime I feel the studs need connection with each other. More counselors More counselors. More summer sessions and/classes during summer session. More online classes (2) More open-minded ness more parcking, more classes More parking and more online classes More parking spaces, please More parking. kitchen experience was great, maybe to find a big group of chefs to teach the courses. a internationally oriented group that works with us, and our professors.

More student orientation specific for freshman and people coming back to school More technology N/A (8) New parking spaces. No improvement needed none Not much, compare to every school I been to, they are the best.

Q19, Continued Not much, I learned a lot during my three years at Mesa. Not sure, wouldn't change much, but maybe having student techer aids for the instructors that get bad

reviews on rate my professor Not to base everything with test taking. But also teaching diversity and showing acceptance to diversity

while it be gay, transgender, mexican, Indian and everything else. Also teaching more life skills lily maybe classes on learning how to do taxes or really life skills that no one teaches you in high school.

Nothing (4) Nothing good as is maybe more hands on nothing its all up to the student to take initiative for own goals Nothing much Nothing that I can think of. I spent 4 years at Mesa figuring out my life, and I loved every bit of it. The staff

was incredible, the professors love what they do, and I will speak very highly of Mesa for the rest of my life.

nothing they provided everything Nothing to improve specifically in regards to music, but only to keep moving forward. Nothing, I wouldn't change a thing. Nothing, I think that it is in everybody to succeed its all just in the time and effort that is willing to be put

via internet. Offer more councelors Offer more higher level child development courses, I had to go to Miramar College to take my last 2

classes. Offer more interesting classes that are readily available. I'd love to a class like sociology and pop culture. offer more night classes and 16 week online classes for students with jobs that are conducive to in class

learning. Offer more online courses. Offer more tutoring in statistics (psych258) and offer tutoring in microbiology. Offered information regarding submitting student art into art shows. Offered more courses online. Offered tutors for higher science classes. One thing that could definitely be improved is the clarity of the important processes necessary to progress

at school. For example, the process of turning in and processing transcripts and the correlation between establishing an academic plan and how it affects your registration date. So many other students I've talked to had no idea that you could improve your registration date by establishing an education plan with a counselor.

Online professors could be more interactive with the students through video lectures versus predone video lectures done by the author of the books.

Open more class sections open more classes so I would not behind on my long term education plan. Opportunities for International Students Perhaps put students who are willing to learn in a separate class as those who are not.

Q19, Continued Possibly had my head on straighter my first semester Practice more on the lectures, eliminate multiple choice questions. Provide better facilities.... Open labs, an actual workroom, Wifi in the buildings would have been nice. Provide corporal punishment for not doing all homework. Provide equal rights to International Students, as with locals. Provide more courses Provide more hands on experience Provide more information about each DCP and the level at which the work will be challenging. Provide more parking Providing financial aid Providing more classes in summer for a quicker finish. Put a lounge in the S-100 building. Quieter tutoring centers Reduce the number of staff, most of them do nothing all day long. Regulate each syllabus and require each syllabus to be posted in the online school schedule, especially if

students have only 2 weeks to replace their class. Required me to have a education plan when I started. Review curriculum and materials presented by instructors. Seen an academic counselor right away on day one Set aside study hours Should have taken school seriously in my first semester Smaller class sizes Some higher mathematics better professor Some of my major courses had some challenges. It is still considered a 'new' degree and under

development. The hiring of some teachers could have been a bit more thought through. A few of them did not seem to really "want" to be there or lacked enough experience to lecture the classes they were assigned for the semester.

Some teachers should not be teaching. I have had a great many amazing teachers but there were some that were all over the place and not helpful.

Sometimes, the staff can appear to be rushed and has the tendency to make students feel as though they are just a number. This is especially the case when going into the counseling office as a walk-in. Other than that, I had a wonderful experience at Mesa and would recommend the school to anyone interested in furthering their education!

Spend more time meeting with teachers during office hours Spend more time with tutors and free resources. Started having Peer Navigators earlier. Provided adjunct professors with offices or similar workspaces. Stay with peers instead of independently Take advantage of all sources Take more honors courses tell me that i could take a class at city college that pertained to my major The Academic Skill Center (The Tutoring Center) was a huge help to me back before I was a tutor myself,

and I've seen it grow. I still now meet students who are completely unaware that not only is tutoring available, it is free of charge.

the construction was annoying, but I understand the need for improvements. The event management program needs to be improved. San Diego in a top destination city in the country

-- we should have a MUCH stronger program than we do now. There needs to be more classes offered so there are more options available for students. The professors are amazing and made the program so enjoyable and entertaining.

the learning center helped a lot out of math classes The only inconvenience was the noise from the construction going on next to the behavioral sciences

building. It was difficult at times to concentrate while hearing a constant banging or beeping from the construction, especially while trying to write an in-class mid-term/final essay.

The parking is ridiculous and there should be enough spots to fit the student population. Also the transcript policy should be changed.

Q19, Continued The passion and strickess of the professors and their willingness to help The process to see a counselor is highly painful, it could be vastly improved. The whole process of calling

at only 8am every day to schedule an appointment a week ahead of time is obnoxious and unnecessary. The counselors themselves are competent and helpful.

The professor should help you to do connection with social people The school is great with how it conducts its educational system and class requirements for transfer; my

only suggestion is to make more classes available. I know there are often times when friends of mine cannot register for a class they need to transfer because there are only a few days/time slots open for that class. By the time their registration date comes, all the seats are full.

The staff, Professors and students helped me a lot to improve my learning experience The teacher that I had, I thank to them . The technology component of the program was not strong at the time I was there. I had to learn much on

my own. Their tutoring center is an awesome place to study because you get the help you need in a blink of an

eye. They could have made the hours that the library is open stay open later during midterms and finals week. Time locked me when I failed a class. Tutoring is something that helps so much, specially someone with ESL. use more efficiently the tutoring services. Use the resources more often. Various classes Wifi that worked, everywhere, other than that...(maybe the construction too...but that's making this place

the raddest school in San Diego County Period) Wish I knew more about the clubs or scholarships Mesa offerd at the beginning of the semester Work less Work less hours. You're heard this before class available No response (137) Q20. If there is anything else you would like to share regarding your learning experiences at Mesa

College, please include it in the box below. (n=154)

AHT deserves more recognition All instructors were kind and supportive, but some did not understand Adobe software as well as I would

have liked. Although **** is completely unprofessional, the people in our class became very close because she made

it feel like she was against all of us. Be active in diverse activities Both my parents are teachers so I understand that California schools are extremely underfunded but I still

feel that there needs to be more support for the students that isn't impossible to get. Continue finding more opportunities to help working adults. Affordable education kept me at Mesa

because I could find many classes in the evenings and online. I continued working during business hours and did not have to sacrifice my income to complete my studies. Continue with summer school too. If it had been offered previously to last year, I could actually completed my studies sooner.

Counselors should be on the same page, every time I went to them for help to make sure I was completing all required courses I was told different things and its really frustrating.

Curriculum for Business majors really needs to be updated. I had to take quite a few classes completely unrelated to my major as requisites

Even with all the construction Mesa college was a great experience. There are many great professors that work here and I think I got a better education at Mesa than I would have as an undergraduate at UCSD, my destination institution.

Everyone is so friendly here!!

Q20, Continued Food sucks. Get rid of the idea of a bell curve and demand better performance from your teachers. Great campus! It's really coming along and I wish I'd be here to see the campus after all of the

construction is done. Great school, not easy to get through in 2 years, but it's a place worth attending and being a student. Guidance office needs a little help to be more informative. had some great profs. Helpful instructors Holding the graduation the week before finals is horrible. The students cannot really enjoy the experience

because they still have to study and some of us have family coming in from out of town. Frustrating and somewhat anti-climatic .

I appreciate San Diego Mesa College offers affordable tuition and online courses. I came to Mesa after a 2 year long battle in a court room, where I was defending my oldest daughters

survival...literally! My oldest brother had molested her and I was in there to fight for her, and put him behind bars! After it was all said and done, and we had won. I was beaten down, devastated and thought I could never recover from this! I had agoraphobia so bad it took me a year to go outside of my house on a regular basis...I knew I had to show myself, my daughter and my new younger family I can bounce back! I didn't have to let my past define me at all, instead I could re-write my story...and I did! One of my chapters is at Mesa College. I couldn't have chosen a better school or a better peer group to be a Mesa College Olympian Alumni!

I do love that the professors are so helpful and encouraging. I would have loved for the professors to have more opportunities to show and teach up work skill for lab. Being in the field of biological sciences I feel like I did not obtain that as much. There was only one professor who went out of her way to teach us useful lab techniques that we could use for our careers.

I enjoyed my learning experiences at Mesa and Miramar colleges. I learned a great deal from the professors and aspire to be as knowledgeable as them.

I enjoyed my time. I'm thankful for my professors. I feel a lot of the students are alone here at this college. I've heard of incidents in the past that have

occurred here and I personally feel like future traumatic events can be avoided if the college took more of an initiative to liven up its student body. To remind students that they're not here alone that we're all here as a community of students and as a community we should have more daily things going on throughout the campus to remind everyone how to LIVE.

I feel like Mesa is a great place to grow. I had a great experience at San Diego Mesa College and truly appreciate everything the school did for

me. As I stated, I am not the typical student. Being a 50 something year old, with 25 years of federal service, has provided me with many life skills and knowledge that my education allowed me to fine tune. This is the only reason I did not provide higher ratings in many of the areas on the survey.

I had a really negative experience taking Black Studies with Professor ****. She was very disorganized, I had no idea what my grade was all semester. We did group tests and I had never heard of the majority of the information of the test on test day. I am honors student who clearly studies yet I had no idea?? And I still got an A. She did a good job of making the class an experience and seeing something different, but as a hardworking student it was very stressful and frustrating.

I had a wonderful time at Mesa. The classes were well organized and the instructors that I had were respectful and professional.

I had an amazing experience at Mesa College and I loved every single minute here. I grew to love Anthropology due to the amazing department at Mesa College.

I had the most amazing time at Mesa, through construction and no parking and challenging teachers, I still would not trade these past years for anything. it has taught me a lot about academic life, responsibilities and how to overcome difficulties.

I had wonderful professors and counselors involved in my education. ****, **** and ****, Counselor, both of these people were an extremely positive influence on me and guided me to a successful career in Health Information Management.

I have had a great experience at mesa, I loved the campus and everything included.

Q20, Continued I have learned so much at Mesa that I will take with me for the rest of life and I don't regard coming to this

community college. I just want to say that I really enjoyed mesa and the professors. There are many resources for success

and the professors are amazing. I knew there were many opportunities to make learning comfortable yet it was in my part to utilize it.

Overall I'm very pleased with the help I've gotten. I like to take some more class to be around Professor ****. She has a skill to motivate the student. I love inspiring teachers like Mrs. **** ,Dr. ****, professor ****. My math instructor Business law instructor

and Tagalog instructor, at Mesa, are fundamental reasons to my success. I love ****! She is the best teacher I love Mesa College I love the new math and science building! It's the perfect study place and made a huge difference in the

time I spent at school. I loved my experience at Mesa. It will always be apart of me. I am proud to graduate from Mesa. The

Biology and Exercise Science teachers are top notch. I have learn so much. Thank you for giving me the tools to succeed in life.

I loves the professors that I had throughout my years at mesa and was thankful to have them as guidness and to come to for help.

I really can't stress how big of a difference it was to have the professors I did. They weren't just there to teach you but wanted you to learn and grow and always made themselves available. Especially ****, the amount of passion she has for teaching is really why the fashion program was such a success for me.

I really enjoyed classes here starting with the Instructors and classmates I really like the student center. Everyone is really friendly I really think you need to better the Counselors' knowledge about students trying to transfer, so they can

tell the students what they need to do I think more students should be more active, as I find myself growing so much as a person when I ger

more involved I think personal growth should be a required class for everyone, that must be taken in the first year! If I

had only taken that class sooner! I think that academic extracurriculars can make all the difference and there should be more push for

students to try and at least join one! I took a few classes that weren't required but I was told Otherwise I took the scenic route in college. Mesa college was my 2nd community college I went to. Before Mesa I

went to Grossmont college which was close to my old high school. I went there and really messed up. I was in classes and forgot to drop them, I felt lost about careers, and academic advising was hard to get there. At the end of my 2nd semester I was put on academic probation. Instead of waiting a semester to re-enroll, I decided to get a fresh start at Mesa, and it was the best decision I ever made. At the end of my first semester I got a 3.5 GPA and from then on my grades and attitude about school kept improving. The counselors were easier to get ahold of and academic advising was incredible. I got an ED plan and stuck to it all the way until my final semester. I also had some AMAZING teachers that not only made time for me, but really seemed to care about my education. I am so happy that I got the fresh start that I did at Mesa College. I was even able to erase all of my old grades from Grossman. Now I am graduating from Mesa with my AA and I got accepted into CSULB and SDSU, and I will be attending SDSU in the fall. I hope to have the same amazing experience there as I did here at Mesa College!!

I want to thank the college for the amazing opportunities they extended to me, particularly the trip to the International Forensics Association tournament in Barcelona, Spain which I attended during the 2015 Spring semester. It truly changed my life.

I was amazed by the quality of the professors here and because of them I am very happy that I chose to attend Mesa. I also appreciate the number of cultural studies classes available. I have seen a lot of plagiarism and laziness from the students. I think that teachers try to give struggling students a chance, but they need to be much harder on them because none of that lazy behavior is because the coursework was too challenging.

Q20, Continued I was misled at first by counselors, they should really specifically ask if you have any intent to transfer as

that is a different set of requirements to take. Also the AS-T should be clarified that it guarantees admission to ANY CSU no guarantee on where in the state of CA though. I was shocked with a good gpa and AST I did not get into any SD country CSU.

I was skeptical about starting my college experience at Mesa rather than at a 4 year university, but I'm so happy I made the decision to go to Mesa! I have had a fantastic 2 years there!! I'm excited to be moving on to SDSU but also a bit sad to be leaving Mesa, I have truly enjoyed my time here!

I wish I would've taken advantage of the resources like tutoring way earlier I wish that there was a better connection between the curriculum at Mesa , the curriculum at the 4yr

schools, and the job market. I would like to be able to retake classes. For some classes, the technology has advanced since I took the

class. It would be nice to be able to retake the course so that my skills are current. I realize the first time students should have priority, but it would be helpful to retake a course on a "space available" basis.

I would like to thank my counselor **** for helping me make the appropriate choices in career goals and believing in me.

I would recommend a jc to anyone I'm Brazilian and I was lucky to have the possibility and respect that mesa offered me I'm not actually qualified to graduate according to perion status but still recieving graduation info. I'm so proud to see how much this campus is growing in popularity both locally and internationally. The

campus itself is become as much of a charm as the instructors. Include more club days and encourage social interaction on campus. Also the tent near finals is nice. Instructors are great if you show them you really are intersting on school they will always take care of you

work hard and they will work hard for helping you to success instructors need to split groups. is a great community college It has been a great experience!! I learned how to study and I improved my learning skills. It is difficult to eat healthy here. not much variety on food. Internet connection is bad at the Hospitality

classroom. It is sad to see that many people in this country are not ready to use these education opportunities. Some

people in this country are not aware how this nation is blessed. It was a great educational experience. I definitely felt spoiled in the sense that the student population is

highly diverse in culture, and age. There is nothing better in my opinion than learning from someone with a completely different backstory and mindset. It brings a lot more to the table in a way.

It was a great experience it was a great experience. i dont want to stop being a student honestly! It was a great value... Low cost and a good education. I recommend Mesa to other people thinking of

going back to school. It would have been extremely helpful to have the department head and publisher to respond back

regarding my email about text books issues. The books in question were custom made for Mesa, and one chapter had blurred images, and the other text had a missing page. Frustrated at paying $180 for poor quality books, it would have been nice to hear that they are reviewing the problem and will be working with the publisher so future students have a better experience studying.

It's so funny to say that while I was at Mesa, some days I felt like I hated it. But the more I think about it, I love Mesa. I just hated feeling stagnant. Mesa is great and the people are nice. Great job Mesa.

I've been trying to get my AA in American Sign Language Studies and I am missing 4 of the language labs. They weren't available or required at the time I took the class. My friend **** graduated with the degree. We took 6 of the classes in the major at the exact same time. I am being told that I can't get my degree and I think it's unfair and discriminatory. The survey is supposed to be anonymous but my name is **** My student id is **** and my cell phone is ****. Help me please. I've already talked with ****, **** and counselors, mainly ****. Graduation is the day before my 37th birthday and I'd like to walk and get my degree in the mail this summer.

Learn that communicating with other is the best way to get a good grade for the semester

Q20, Continued Many professors are just like the many of the counselors, they have no passion in wanting their students

to succeed and go onto a great future. Teaching use to be fun and exciting now all the professors care about is their next check. No meaning and purpose behind why they are there.

Mesa College (and Miramar College) has been very helpfull and accomodating to my educational goal. The governor's grant helps a great deal in financing my education in addition to the Veteran's benefit I received from VA.

Mesa college is the best school for transferring students Mesa had a huge impact on my young life and it is something that i will use for the rest of it Mesa has amazing professors who have blessed me with lots of knowledge and have expanded my

knowledge and for that I am greatly thankful for attending this amazing campus mesa has been good to me for the most part, just need the counselors to care more and the professors in

some areas to be more on top of things/organized. Mesa is a beautiful campus Mesa is the way to achieve your dream More program based learning My 2.5 years at Mesa were great. The transition was easy to become a student again and found many

new friends through the Vet Center. I started setting goals and that helped me progress as a person.

My experience and time at Mesa College has been great. My learning experience has been great, but to be honest I think most of that was dependent of my own

motivation to show up every day and work hard in all my classes. I won't deny that quality professors make a class and a lack of will certainly break a class. I'm thankful for those who aided in my learning experience and I'm also thankful for those challenging professors in teaching me patience and pro-activeness in refusing to remain confused and not giving up until I can understand a concept, whether that help came directly from a professor or was caused by a professor's lack of help.

N/A (12) No None (2) nothing (2) On behalf of future students, I'll be glad when all the construction is done. Getting around the campus is

hard when sections are blocked off. Overall I am glad I decided to attend Mesa. I don't believe I would be as determined as I am now if I

would have not chosen Mesa. Overall, I would recommend Mesa to anyone looking for a solid community college to start/ continue their

high education journey. parking sucks People who work full time have to take time off to make any sort of appointments or get information. The

financial aid department is unhelpful, cold and terse. Please get more staff in the health center. Please please offer students hot foods that are more organic, less fried, with less preservatives. The

canned, frozen and deep-fried foods made me sluggish and feel guilty for eating at school instead of cooking but when I have no choice I sometimes went hungry.

Please set up a way for students to contact an authority figure above the professors. Over the last few years I've noticed a specific few beginning to abuse their position of power.

Professors ****, **** and Dr. **** all changed my life for the better. Taking their courses helped me find my path and I will be forever grateful for them. They all deserve tenure at Mesa.

Regarding the topic of psychology, it would be convenient and easier to retain the information if the teachers were given a standard for vocabulary. For example, pavlovian conditioning VS classical condition. They are the same thing, but still one teacher will exclusively use one term as if it is the only term that exists for it.

Some counsilors need to get on top of it, I have heard a lot of counsilors giving wrong information to students, also to myself.

Talking with councilors is difficult

Q20, Continued teachers at Mesa are mostly all very engaged with their students which is awesome because I think that's

key to a good education Thank you (2) Thank you for being an Institution I can be proud of Thank you for expanding parking, and for investing new buildings and materials for our school. THANK YOU for providing me a place to get my life back on track! I have learned so incredibly much and

have Mesa College to thank for that. One thing that can never be taken from me is my education. Thank you for teaching me as well providing a realistic path to my future success at a university. Thank you Mesa College for providing me with the education and help I needed to do well in a four-year

college. That I love San Diego Mesa! It's an amazing campus with lots of great professors. The comfort tent was and is the best idea ever. The councilors are amazing, they provide a nice roadmap to transfer, and they are encouraging,

hopefully, and helpful. The Counseling Dept. can give wrong information often. I have had a lot of confusion and misinformation

because of the counselors. Every time I go in I meet with a new person who has no clue whats going on with me.

The experience at Mesa has been great from the start with the exception of a few professors my knowledge has grown to include new ideas as well as understanding of the world around me.

The faculty and staff are so dedicated to help us succeed. You can tell they love their jobs The food in the cafeteria is awful. Besides the salad bar would have been nice to have healthier choices The improvements to the school are fantastic. When the design center became available, it made a huge

difference for us. I plan to continue taking classes at Mesa as a life-long learner. The professors here are (mostly) incredible. They really seem to care about students and do their best to

create a good learning environment. The professors of the Mesa **** Program;Dr **** and Professor ****, made learning fun. They motivated

me, pushed me, and inspired me to become who I am today. A successful young man who can not wait to give back to the community.

The professors really were the greatest part, and their lessons extended beyond the material they were teaching.

The professors were amazing! The school is really starting to look nice! The Student health services has been a blessing The Transfer Center needs to prepare the future students with better knowledge of which campus

requires what and when. There are a few things that I think would be beneficial for students at Mesa: 1. The system of making an

appointment with a counselor a week in advance is quite impractical in my opinion. Planning ahead is understandable, however, I don't think it's very reasonable for a student to have to call and schedule an appointment on the Tuesday prior to their desired appointment date for the following week in order to receive said appointment. I think a more traditional style of booking appointments would make a lot more sense and be less stressful. Maybe instead of calling exactly a week ahead for the appointment you want, students could call at least 3 days ahead of the desired date for the appointment and the counselors could set something up that works for both them and the student. 2. There are so many amazing functions/workshops/fairs/events that go on during the semester, and it's a shame that so many students have to miss them because they're in class! I think it would be really beneficial to have a 2 hour period during the day when there are no classes that is reserved for events so that all students have the opportunity to experience the things this college has to offer. A planned activity period would be in interest to both the student and the event planners because students wouldn't have the hassle of choosing between going to class and going to the event and events would definitely have a better turn-out because more people would be able to come!

This is my second degree earned here... and I'm happy and very grateful. Very pleased with the instructors and professors, and experienced a higher than expected level of

education.

Q20, Continued When I first started at Mesa, there used to be a small game center with billiard tables. Would be nice if

there was a small bowling alley or game center on campus. When it comes to learning, utilize all the resources around you. You are the main motivator in wanting to

apply yourself as a student. While I lived 5 minutes from Miramar college, I've always preferred Mesa. Not only for the facilities, but

the expansive breadth of subjects and languages it offers. At its heart is its instructors. I have been incredibly lucky to meet, and be influenced by some amazing teachers, faculty and adjunct alike, and I hope that Mesa continues to maintain the high level of amazing individuals on its staff.

Why honored students have to pay more when they graduate? Yes, Mesa college is amazing school I love all profess they are awesome, and counselor **** he is

amazing. Yes, I had a terrible experience with your counselors. They either did not have information, they were

very impatient, or they are careless of their job. Yes, Professor **** was helpful in helping me pass my fears of English 101. Your grade depends on the professor, thanks to rate my professor site, i could chose a good professor

and get better knowledge. No response (275)
