Prayer of Confession

God of love, it is your will that we should love you with heart, soul, mind, strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, but we are not sufficient for these things. We confess that our affections continually turn away from you: from purity to lust, from freedom to slavery, from compassion to indifference, from fullness to emptiness. Have mercy on us. Order our lives by your holy Word, and make your commandments the joy of our hearts. Conform us to the image of your loving Son, Jesus, so that we may shine before the world to your glory. Amen.

Private Confession

Prayer We pray because we know we can bring our concerns for ourselves and for others, for the world and for the church, to God. The Prayer of Adoration is a time to thank God for bringing us into his presence and to get a glimpse of his beauty.

The Lord’s Prayer Jesus gave this example in the New Testament (Matthew 6:9-13) to show us how to pray. We use this prayer corporately each week as a reminder.

RENEWAL

Confession Confession is when we are honest about ourselves, each other, and with God. As we admit our misplaced affections, we are called to reorder our lives. Only by being honest with our needs will the good news of grace be significant.

Passing of the Peace A long-standing tradition of the church, this is a time when we have the chance to greet one another, regardless of our relationship, as individuals made in God’s image. It is more than a mere greeting — it is an acknowledgement of one’s innate humanity that deserves to be addressed as well as a call to be united despite our differences.

DR. VANESSA HAWKINSDirector of Community Life

We are excited to welcome Vanessa and her family, which includes her husband, Marcus and their three daughters who will all be in college this fall, into our LSQ family. Vanessa has served the last five years as the Director of Women’s Ministry at First Presbyterian Church, Augusta. She currently serves as Diversity Advisor for the women’s ministry of the PCA, which is our church’s denomination, and holds her MDiv and DMin in Cultural Apologetics and Communications from Covenant Theological Seminary. As our new Director of Community Life, she will play a key role in shaping community and caring for women in the church, as well as collaborating in the development of a culture of evangelism, public faith and justice.
