Integrated Pest Management or IPM, as it is commonly known, is a flexible system of managing pests which is designed to be sustainable, making the best use of all available technologies to manage problems effec vely and safely. IPM involves using the best combina on of cultural, biological and chemical measures for par cular circumstances, including plant biotechnology as appropriate. This provides the most cost-effec ve, environmentally sound and socially acceptable method of managing diseases, insects, weeds and other pests in agriculture.

This is exactly the approach that InteliGro follows to help producers with long-term sustainable crop solu ons.

1) It begins with a good knowledge of the specific crop involved and the challenges, plant physiology, plant biological and produc on aspects important to the crop. This also includes an understanding of the specific cul vars, seed varie es, rootstocks, and their specific suscep bility to certain pests.

2) In addi on to the crop knowledge, the knowledge of the pests (weeds, insects, diseases, nematodes) and the poten al economic impact is an important focus area. This also includes monitoring techniques and assis ng growers with monitoring prac ces. With the correct monitoring informa on, be er decisions can be made with regards to ac ons required and the right solu on for the specific situa on.

3) Thirdly, InteliGro has a sound knowledge of the crop protec on solu ons that include chemical, biological and cultural management op ons.

BioControl: Integrates different biological control agents as part of an IPM strategy and is also used to produce low-to-no residue and pes cide free crops. The products in this range consist of specific viruses, micro-organisms, macro-organisms, plant extracts, mass trapping techniques, and also ma ng disrup on that won’t have a nega ve impact on the environment, are safe for use by producers and have no residues on the crop produce therefore being very safe for the end-user.

BioS mulants:The bio-s mulant products that form part of this category focus on plant stress, plant growth, and yield.

Amino acids, kelp-based products and PGPR`s form the basis of te bio-s mulant range of products.

Bio-Inoculants:With the focus on root health and root condi oning to assist with be er water and nutrient uptake, the range of products consist primarily of specific micro-organisms that form a symbio c rela onship with the plant roots. There is a growing demand on a localand interna onal basis for solu ons that are more environmentally friendly, have minimum impact on beneficial organisms, are safe to use and can be used as part of a low-to-no residue and even no pes cide food produc on approach.

In addi on to this, there is also a big focus on bio-s mulants and the development of new, very effec ve products that can be applied to achieve specific responses in the plant. Due to the intensity of crop produc on and the pressure on rota on systems resul ng in the development of soil-borne disease challenges, root health and root condi oning are also very important to ensure effec ve uptake of water and nutrients and have a direct impact on overall plant health. Carbology® refers to the methodology of op mising plant carbohydrate management in fruit trees / plants with high produc on capacity to minimise alternate bearing and ensuring the produc on of high-quality marketable fruit. Carbology® is not a quick fix general programme, but incorporates mul hor cultural disciplines into a year management tool to ensure year-on-year sustainable produc on and tree quality.

Bio-S mulantsBio-s mulants are products of diverse origins (humic substances, seaweed or plant extracts, protein hydrolysates, amino acids, polysaccharides and inorganic compounds) without residues. Bio-s mulants act on the physiology of the plant in different ways to enhance the vigour of the crop, the yield and the quality of the harvest.

InteliGro has a wide range of these products as part of its InteliBio Solu on approach. To name a few: Fitamin 24 is a plant growth promoter containing L-Amino Acids produced by Bioiberica in Spain, using an exclusive method of enzyma c hydrolysis. The soil applica on of StresSal was shown to reduce the osmo c poten al thus helping the plant to tolerate salt stress be er. Goëmar BM Plus and Calibra Carbo are ascophyllum nodosum based products which act as plant physiological ac vators of fruit se ng and plant growth. It ac vates trees’ nutri on uptake and distribu on in the plant and flowering promoters. It op mises fruit se ng and gives be er contribu on to the fruitlets.

Specialised Granular Fer lisersCRF nutri on or otherwise known as controlled release fer lisers entails the concept where high quality fer lisers are coated with special technology that enables the nutrients to be released over specific periods to co-inside with the plant’s nutri onal requirements. InteliGro makes use of the Mul cote range of CRF products which is being manufactured by Haifa, a world leader in CRF technology.

Water SolubleInteliGro has its own unique water-soluble fer liser brand name called Qula. High-quality and fully soluble fer lisers, excellent for fer ga on, hydroponics and foliar nutri on. Chelplex is an ultra-fine powder amino gluconate complex mineral foliar nutri on range.
