Introduction IBM is pleased to announce the General Availability of IBM FileNet Capture 5.2 release. This release introduces advanced document classification and separation capabilities along with tools that enhance the existing IBM FileNet Capture ADR product. It also provides IBM FileNet Capture with supportability in areas such as Records Manager 4.0, Vista Support (File Import, Assembly and Index in a post-qualification release) and ITLM integration for license management, along with removal of all license keys and dongles from Capture components.

Orders may now be placed for new and upgrade licenses with worldwide shipping beginning on April 11th.

Feature Highlights for Capture 5.2 Records Manager 4.0 Support Starting from Capture 5.2 release, IBM will provide support for IBM FileNet Records Manager 4.0 release. This will allow new and existing customers to utilize the latest Records Manager software supported by the Capture family of products. This feature allows the exposure of the File Plan and declaration and retention rules to Capture, allowing documents to be declared as records in the capture path.

Vista Operating System Support (For File Import, Assembly, and Index) Starting this release, IBM will be introducing support for the Vista Operating System with File Import, Assembly, and Index components.

IBM Tivoli License Manager Integration ITLM provides a comprehensive solution for managing software assets across heterogeneous platforms. It includes automated software inventory and license management based on the quantity of installed images and usage according to several capacity metrics. Starting with Capture 5.2, ITLM integration will enable customers to reclaim unused software licenses, eliminate licensing for unused applications, prepare for software audits and plan future software purchases.

Enhanced Recognition for Advanced Classification-Separation & Extraction Prior to Capture 5.2 release, the Recognition module part of the Capture ADR product was responsible for classification and extraction of data. Starting with this release, the recognition module has been enhanced to provide advanced capabilities in classification and separation. These capabilities include image, text, rules, document and template classification, any combination of which can be run in production to serve specific customer requirements. The product can be ‘trained’ to classify documents following classes as defined in the IBM FileNet repositories (P8, Image Services). Through these functions, documents can be separated automatically in the capture path, eliminating the need to print and insert separator pages in document preparation.


Capture ADR uses Virtual Assembly to support Classification and Separation Prior to Capture 5.2 release, all batches were assembled using the Capture Assembly module before Capture ADR modules were called. Starting this release, we no longer require that Assembly run before ADR classification. Classification will run on unassembled pages, marking batch and document boundaries, which will later be used by Assembly to create the desired structure of documents.

New Advanced Text Classification Capability Classification is the process of assigning a type to each document, either for export to the final repository or to use during extraction. With releases prior to Capture 5.2 release included image, text and rule based classification algorithms in the recognition module of Capture ADR. Release of Capture 5.2 will introduce advanced text classification capability and also enable full utilization of the image and rules template based classification which included in prior releases.

Transformation Studio One of the major tools that we have introduced in this release is Transformation Studio, which is an easy-to-use tool that will simplify the configuration and training of classification and separation solutions.

The Transformation Studio module provides:

• Document set management capabilities to facilitate the import and organization of large groups of example documents

• The ability for users to determine possible problems in the sample document set and present

corrective actions (e.g. correctly categorize) that make the clean-up of training sets highly efficient

• The ability to build image, text, and separation models for use in Capture ADR runtime configurations

Document Review Module Document Review is introduced in this release as a module to assist in reviewing the structure of recognized batches and fixing structural issues. This module is used after Recognition is performed to review the automatic classification results. Within Document Review, a business user can confirm any document types that Recognition sees as below configured confidence levels, fix any validation failures (by changing document type) or review the batch. User actions taken in Document Review provide further training of the Classification and Separation module.

Document Review module provides:

• Rapid review of documents • Ability to manually confirm low-confidence classification or separation results

• Validate batch and document structure against business rules


Advanced Document Processing requirement for a dongle is now removed Prior to Capture 5.2 release, the EBC (Enhanced Barcode) feature of AIPE 4.0 (Advanced Doc Processing) was enabled by the presence of a dongle. The latest version of AIPE v4.1 in this release removes the requirement of having a dongle for Advanced Doc Processing.

Overview of IBM FileNet Capture Products IBM FileNet Capture provides a solution to scan, index, image-enhance, perform data recognition (such as barcode and OCR), route and commit content to all IBM FileNet ECM Repositories. In addition to scanning, Capture includes fax integration and batch file import of any digital object from a file system. The following is an overview of the Capture family of products:

Capture Professional Capture Professional provides a way to do production capture for an entire enterprise. Key capabilities include:

• Scan/Fax/Import

- Supports the full spectrum of Low to High Volume Scanning.

- Fax Integration with IBM FileNet’s Fax Server and Connector 5.x (see below), allowing faxed images to be processed, and routed by Capture based on fax attributes such as fax phone line.

- Supports user unattended file import

• Distributed, High volume capable

- Modular and highly configurable to allow many dedicated stations from Scan stations, to Image Verify stations, to Doc Processing Stations, Index Stations and Robot Commit Stations.

- Automation capabilities to perform repetitive processing such as routing, applying data extraction technologies of image enhancement, barcode and OCR, auto batch and document separation through patch code and barcode recognition.

• Data Capture and Forms Processing

- Auto-indexing capabilities through barcode recognition and Zonal OCR.


- Add-on capabilities for Advanced Document Recognition such as Advanced Form recognition techniques, ICR, OCR, OMR.

• Customizable

- Built using Microsoft’s OLE Automation technology provides object oriented component-based architecture and allows third party components to interact seamlessly in Capture.

Commit

- Supports all IBM FileNet repositories: Image Services, Content Services, and P8 Content Manager.

- Offline Repository provides a way to perform Capture functionality in remote offices without connection to the Image Services. It is only during Document Class synchronization and remote committal that connection is required.

Capture Desktop Built on the Capture Object Model, Capture Desktop provides out-of-the box document capture capabilities designed to meet the needs of the department with low to medium volume, limited resources and novice or experienced users. Capture Desktop supports Content Services and P8 Content Manager.

Capture Professional Inbound Link Built on Capture’s object model, Inbound Link streamlines Capture functionality for FileImport and Inbound Fax, from receiving images to committal. The FileImport capability gives the ability to automatically import and index any digital object into Capture from a third party product such as a multi-function device. The Inbound Fax capability integrates tightly with IBM FileNet’s Fax Server and Connector 4.x (see Optional Orderable items). Inbound Link supports all IBM FileNet repositories including Image Services, Content Services, and P8 Content Manager.

DocEntry DocEntry provides a way to distribute non-scan or import functionality across multiple stations. DocEntry provides the capability to assemble, index, index verify (IS only), image verify, Zonal OCR and batch committal. DocEntry is available for both Capture Desktop and Capture Professional.

Capture Advanced Document Recognition Capture Advanced Document Recognition (ADR) is a member of the IBM FileNet Capture Family of products providing Structured and Unstructured Forms recognition for input into a business process, significantly reducing processing delays and operating costs. Capture ADR is an ADD-ON product to IBM FileNet Capture Professional. Existing customers can continue to use Capture Professional for Scan/Import/Fax, image enhancement, commit, etc. Capture ADR modules add powerful capabilities to


extract data from images and maximize operator efficiency in a production Capture environment during character correction, indexing and double keying.

DocProcessing DocProcessing allows a user to improve image quality after scanning, faxing or importing. It also provides the capability to detect barcodes and patchcodes, which can be used in autoindex and document separation.

Advanced Doc Processing Provides all the features of the standard Docprocessing defined above, plus the ability to detect color barcode, 2-D barcode and color deskew.

OCR2PDF OCR2PDF performs OCR on images and generates a PDF file with embedded text. OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition for text printed by machine only. PDF stands for Portable Document Format, which can be viewed, fully searched and fully indexed. This allows Full Text Search to be performed through Content Services and P8 Content Manager’s search engine. This license provides unlimited conversion of paper documents or electronic documents for a Capture station.

Capture Toolkit The Capture Toolkit provides a rich set of sample applications, documentation and other files necessary for developing Capture custom applications using the Capture components. For example, Visual Basic applications are provided to present a different user interface for scanning or indexing. Likewise a sample is provided to show Capture integration with eProcess.

Fax 5.x FileNet resells RightFax 9.3 Server and FileNet Connector 2.5. RightFax is the market leading fax server product. Capture Professional Inbound Link and Capture Professional can connect directly into the fax server to receive inbound faxes. Please refer Fax 5.x Product Announcement.

Unique selling propositions/product differentiators This section describes the value of buying IBM FileNet Capture and how to position each of the Capture family of products.

One Vendor There are many Capture vendors in the market today. IBM FileNet Capture not only provides a complete Capture solution, customers would only need to call one place for support of Capture and their ECM repository.

Return on Investment 80% - 90% of corporate information resides in paper documents. As the quantity of paper documents grows so does storage and retrieval costs--exponentially. It is common for customers to realize a Return on Investment within months of


deploying a FileNet solution. This return on investment can be realized by reducing costs for physical storage of paper or mailing paper documents for processing. Capture is an efficient system allowing:

• Automation via auto indexing and auto-batching of documents using barcode, patch code and zonal OCR or Advanced Document Recognition techniques

• Image enhancement capabilities to improve legibility and page alignment. This reduces the number of rescans required.

• Routing automation, to allow work to be sent to next step in the capture process so that manual index entry can be queued to another station.

• Shortcut keys, to reduce the number of keystrokes required.

Better Decisions, Faster Capture is an expansion product for the entire suite of products including Image Manager, FileNet Content Manager, Web Content Manager, and Business Process Manager. Better decisions can be made faster with quality content and immediate access.

Globalization and Localization Capture Desktop & Professional is globalized for International markets. It can be installed and will function correctly in non-English environments. It supports extended character handling, date/time & currency formats for Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East & the Americas. Capture can be easily & quickly translated into additional languages. The Toolkit will remain in English.

Capture 5.0 Service Pack 1 is globalized for International markets. It can be installed and will function correctly in all non-English environments.

Section 508 Compliance Statement Capture has been certified to meet the Section 508 compliant policy. A number of problems were identified and resolved in this release. However, there are some that are either vendor issues or require a redesign of certain Capture components and will not be addressed until a future Capture release. In general, keyboard related issues can be worked-around by enabling the “Use Mouse Key” option under Control Panel/Accessibility Options/Mouse tab, which allows the numeric keypad on the keyboard to control the mouse pointer.

Pricing and Ordering Licensing Licensing of the Capture family of products is on a station basis, with the following bundling exceptions:

• Personal Volume includes Level-1 scan license and 2 DocEntry licenses

• Low Volume includes Level-2 scan license and 3 DocEntry licenses


• Medium Volume includes Level-3 scan license and 4 DocEntry licenses

• High Volume includes Level-P1, P2 scan license and 5 DocEntry licenses

• Personal Volume includes Level-1 scan license and 1 DocEntry licenses

Capture Advance Document Recognition

• Base Capture ADR product is licensed on a monthly page throughput basis

• Capture ADR Advanced Document Classification and Separation licenses require both Capture Professional and Capture Advanced Document Recognition (ADR). The license does not include these base components.
