The Rural MaidI. Thy glance, sweet maid, when first we met

Had left a heart that aches for thee,I feel a pain of fond regret ---

Thy heart, perchance, is not for me.II. We parted: though we met no more,My dreams are dreams of thee, fair maid:

I think of thee, my hearts imploreThe hours my lips on thine are laid.

III. Forgive these words that love impart,And pleading, bare the poet’s breasts; And if a rose with thorns thou art,Yet on my breast that rose may rest.

IV . I know not what to name thy charms,Thou art half human, half divine;

And if I could hold thee in my arms, I know both heaven and earth are mine.

INTERPRETATION

The persona is a guy who fell in love with a maid. But despite of his endearment to her, her heart doesn’t belong to him –– this left some pain in his heart. The poem revolves in a hopeless dreamer’s passion for a girl he could, and never would, own. They parted and never crossed paths again. But the memory of the maid kept hunting him even if he is sleeping. He will still continue sacrificing. He says that if he could only hold her in his arms, heaven and earth would be his. It is his only happiness, his only desire –– to love the rural maid he knew will never love him in the end.

QUOTATION

“ Try to accept

failure and never stop loving the person you

love.”

Type of Poem used:• A lyric poem following the structure of a sonnet.

SONNET: A sonnet is a fixed verse form usually of 14 lines, but occasionally 12 or 16, with a sophisticated rhyme scheme. It is a Shakespearean sonnet, in particular, with the rhyme scheme being abab, cdcd, efef, ghgh.

feeling or share some thoughts about not being loved or liked by someone you admire

to based on experiences. (Oral

Recitation)

FOLLOW the LEADER:• Ask / Choose 1 person from the group to leave the for a while. She will be the guesser of the game.

• Then the people who are left will decide who will bethe “leader” of the game. The “leader” will be doingthe quirky and silly actions that the members must

imitate.

ORATION: Ice Breaker

• Everyone must not be too obvious to whom their “leader” is.

•After deliberating and practicing the moves, invite the guesser

to come back. Then, LET THE GAME BEGIN!

REFLECTION1. Why did I choose this topic? I choose this topic because it somewhat gives me a hint

that this is like a real life story that I and everyone can relate to.

2. What can it contribute to my course? It somewhat stimulates the mind of the readers to

imagine and create a conclusion to it. And by studying this, we are able to know the strategies, styles and so many things about literature that are a big help in our chosen course.

3. How can I apply it in real life situation?- If I have acquired all the moral values of the

story, I will share it to others so that they will be enlightened and be inspired too. You can also use these values to help you make a good decision about love topics.
