Welcome and Introduction: Deb Moore, Congregational Care Coordinator
*Call to Worship Rev. Pat Hammond
How blessed we are that God forgives us and loves us!
For all those times when we have fallen short of what God would have us
be, we have been forgiven.
God makes us new in God’s Spirit!
Now is the time to joyfully accept the newness of life which God offers to us.
Come, let us worship and be thankful.
Let us open our hearts to the peace and joy of God. AMEN.
*Opening Hymn # 403 “Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty” UNSER HERRSCHER
*Forgiveness Litany
Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive?
(Matthew 18:21a, NRSV)
If someone is caught in a sin, we who are spiritual should restore that one
gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted!
(Galatians 6:1, NIV, adapted)
But what is fair; how often should I forgive the same person?
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against
one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13, NIV)
"Should I forgive as many as seven times?" (Matthew 18:21b, NRSV, adapted)
Jesus said, "If the same person sins against you seven times a day, and
turns back to you seven times and says, 'I repent,' you must forgive." (Luke
17:4, NRSV) Continued on next page
September 8, 2019
Jesus said to forgive "Not seven times, but, seventy-seven times." (Matthew 18:22b,
NRSV, adapted)
Love is not rude, Love is not self-seeking, Love is not easily angered, and
Love keeps no record of wrongs. God give us the grace to love and to forgive
one another.

ADULT EDUCATION BEGINS TODAY

she decide to send her daughter, Alya, to Catholic school? Come meet this hard working, delightful
woman who has battled Bobby Flay on the Food Network.
Sep 15 Paul TenHaken was elected mayor of Sioux Falls in April 2018. We are grateful that
he has agreed to speak to us about his complex job and how his faith impacts his life journey.

Wednesday Night Live Adult Class
“God helps those who help themselves.” Proverbs, right? Come to the Wednesday Night Live
adult class—beginning 6:15pm September 11 in room 204 and find out. We will be doing a five
week class based on Adam Hamilton’s book Half Truths. Most of us as Christians have things we
believe, tell others, and even count on, that we’ve not closely examined. Rev Hamilton will chal-
lenge us to look at some of these “half-truths” to discern what we really believe to be true and
maybe discard some that may even hurt others. Join us for this interesting series.
Attention New 9th Graders
Confirmation is an exciting time in the
life of the church. This class is offered each
year to those who are entering the 9th grade.
There will be discussions of various topics:
trust in God, the concept of sin, discipleship,
fellowship, creeds and sacraments. This is a
time of spiritual growth and personal
development, and is a significant part of a
journey of faith. Confirmation class will meet
twice a month on Sunday evenings in the
youth room. If your freshman is interested in
joining us for this year’s confirmation, email
Eric at [email protected].

ST. DYSMAS PRISON WORSHIP SERVICE
First Presbyterian Church is scheduled to worship with the St. Dysmas Prison Ministry on
Thursday, September 26, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Our Church Mission Statement is to “Be the Visible Face of Christ” in our lives and ministry.
Attending the worship service with our neighbors in prison reflects Christ’s light to them.
Anyone interested in attending must complete 4 mandatory forms: DOC Access Approval
Form, Release/Waiver of Liability Form, Background Check, & Visitor Guidelines Form. These
forms may be obtained from our church front office and need to be returned to our church office
by September 10. Visitors must be at least 18 years of age to participate.
This service will provide an opportunity for us to experience inspirational worship with fellow
Christians behind bars, and your very presence encourages those incarcerated that they have not
been forgotten. You may be the only outside visitor many encounter, and it is also a way to fulfill
the directive of our Lord to come and visit those in prison.
If you have any questions, contact the church office or Tacey Braithwaite at 321-5746 or email
“I was in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:36

or anyone on the Honduras Vision Team (Carrie
