Overview

Introduction

► District comprises Six subdivision: Patna Sadar,

Patna City, Barh, Masaurhi, Danapur, Paliganj

and 23 blocks: Patna Sadar, Sampatchak,

Phulwarisarif, Fatwah, Daniyawan, Khusrupur,

Athmal Gola, Mokama, Belchhi, Ghoswari,

Pandarak, Bakhtiyapur, Barh, Masaurhi, Punpun,

Dhanaura, Danapur, Maner, Bihta, Naubatpur,

Paliganj, Dulhinbazar, Bikram.

► The district has history and tradition of earliest

dawn of civilisation.

► Patna is 21st fastest growing city in the world & 5th

fastest growing city in India

► The district has huge potential for various types

of industries in the field of food and Agro based

products, Engineering, Metal and is known for

growing varieties of foods and vegetables such

as Paddy, Mangos, Banana, Tomato, Potato etc

► Apart from agriculture, other allied activities in

the district are Dairy, crafts, etc

Patna district lies virtually in the heart of the South Bihar Plain and it is the capital

city of Bihar. Patna name has undergone many changes since century 600 B.C. from

pataliputa, Pataligram, Azimabad, etc. to Patna Chandragupta Maurya made it his

capital in the 4th century A.D. Thereafter the city lost its importance until Sherkhan

Suri rose into power in the early 16th century A.D. Ashoka the Great, administered

his empire from here. Chandragupta Maurya and Samudragupta, valliant warriors,

they took Pataliputra as their capital.

ranked 1st in the state

number of secondary and higher education institute and colleges.

Patna Zoo is Bihar oldest zoo and

situated on the Baily road. The

botanical garden has numerous

Birds and animals to be seen. It

includes flora and fauna from various

parts of India as well as other

countries. A wooden house built on a

tree is another attraction

The Patna Museum Established in 1917, the oldest museum in

Bihar. Gigantic fossilized tree thought to be 200 million years

old 16 m long, Buddhist Bodhisattvas belong to the 2nd and

3rd centuries are famous visiting points.

Sher Shah Suri Mosque, also

known as Shershahi Mosque, is

an example of the Afghan style

of architecture built by Sher

Shah Suri in 1540–1545 to

commemorate his reign. It is

sited in the south-west corner of

Purab Darwaza, Dhawalpura.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib also known as Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, is

one of the holiest of the five takhts. It is built by Maharaja Ranjit

Singh (1780-1839), the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, in the

1950s.

Mahavir temple is outside

station. The sacred ‘Kalas’ of

brass shines on its high roof.

This temple was founded in a

humble room with clay-tile roof

during British Raj. Temple was

rebuilt in year 1987.
