With SmartGraph3 the gathering of measured data is simple and as intuitive as possible:

• An HUMLOG20 data logger is automatically recognized and added as a “network device”.

• In addition to its data-readout function, the software possesses a recording mode that enables parallel recording to be displayed on the computer.

• The data from any desired number of HUMLOG20 devices can be read out simultaneously.

• The zoom function allows for quick analyses of critical time periods.

• The exporting of measured data in csv format enables it to be imported into EXCEL.

• The device configuration can be printed out in order to check instal-lation parameters.

• Alarm limits - like the measured data - are chronologically managed at various times so that when changes in alarm limits occur, they can be retracted.

• Automatic data readout of all measured data is supported.

The role of humidity calibrations that are accurate, reproducible, and documentable is becoming more and more important.ISO quality guidelines and regulations according to FDA guideli-nes in the pharmaceutical industry, etc., require that humidity instruments have a traceable, accurate calibration. The humidity calibrator HUMOR 20 developed by E+E is the ideal reference instrument for these requirements. The HUMOR 20 can be used in the humidity range of 10-95% RH both for monitoring cylindrical sensors (transmitters, hand-held instruments,...) and also for monitoring instruments with cubic dimensions (data loggers, wall instruments,...). A temperature sensor integrated in the measurement chamber also permits the monitoring of an optional temperature output.

The HUMOR 20 is traceable to international standards and can be delivered with an official, internationally recognised OEKD calibration certificate. Due to its high accuracy, the HUMOR 20 is the basis for accredited calibration laboratories for relative humi-dity.

Based on its operating principle, the HUMOR 20 can be used under typical conditions in a laboratory climate. This means that expensive, fully air-conditioned rooms are not necessary. For operation HUMOR 20 requires only distilled water, filtered oil-free air with a pressure of 10 bar and a power supply between 90-230V AC. The specimen can be powered by 24V DC that is available directly on the HUMOR 20.

HUMOR 20 High-precision Humidity Calibrator

OperationThe operation of the HUMOR 20 is based on a funda-mental two-pressure process and thus is similar to instruments used in national bureaus for standards.Air or nitrogen at a pressure p1 is led through a water-filled saturation chamber and saturated to 100% RH at p1. By means of a reduction valve, the saturated air is reduced to the ambient pressure p and fed into the measurement chamber. Due to the construction, the saturation chamber and the measurement chamber are at the same temperature. Under these conditions, the water-vapour partial pressure ews is reduced at the same ratio as the total pressure.Essentially, the following applies: e = ews * p / p1

From this it follows that: RH = e / ews = p / p1

Thus, the generated relative humidity essentially depends on the ratio of the two pressures. Constructionspecific deviations from this ratio are corrected during factory adjustments. By adjusting the pressure p1 the relative humidity is brought to the desired value in the measurement chamber.

Measuring Chamber The construction of the measuring chamber allows the calibration and adjustment of cylindrical sensor probes with a diameter of 8-25.5mm (0.3-1”) (hand-held instruments, duct-mounted versions, ...) as well as of cubic measuring units (room transmitters, data loggers, ...) with maximum dimensions of 100x85x40mm (3.9x3.3x1.6”) or 95x95x40mm (3.9x3.9x1.6”). By using the Plexiglas cover (standard supply), it is possible to calibrate and adjust compact room devices (e.g., the EE10) with the HUMOR 20. The overall accuracy of the calibration is influenced by the absence of the metal cover. The additional error depends on the position of the specimen in the chamber as well as on the relative humidity.

Humidity Calibration KitThe E+E Humidity Calibration Kit offers a cost effective method for calibrating humidity measuring devices with sensing probes Ø 10-12 mm (0.4-0.47 inch). It is very easy to use and it does not require highly qualified technical staff. The kit consists of a humidity calibration chamber and a choice of E+E Humidity Standard Sets.

Humidity Standards:The E+E Humidity Standards are non-saturated salt solutions available in sets of five or fifty single-use ampoules, which may be stored an indefinite time. The salt solutions are non-harmful, handling them does not require specific safety measures. Safety data sheet is available upon request. Each E+E Humidity Standard Set is supplied with a traceable calibration certificate, issued by the Austrian National Metrology Institute (NMI).

Sophisticated metrology is one of the fundamental prerequisites for quality and progress in trade, industry, science, health and environmental protection.“National standards” are at the pinnacle of the hierarchy of measuring equipment.

Every industrial nation has an authority that provides this measurement standard and verifi es its accuracy by international comparison measurements.

In Austria this is the task of BEV - the National Metrology Institute. E+E Elektronik as a „designated laboratory“ is commissioned to provide and further develop the national standard for humidity.

Thanks to the direct traceability to an NMI (National Metrology Institute), a BEV certifi cate is of particular interest to accredited calibration authorities.

Based on the agreements between the members of EA (European Cooperation for Accreditation) and ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation), calibration certifi cates issued by E+E conform to worldwide recognized standards.

NMI

ÖKD

OTHER AUTHORITIES

(National standards)

Calibration authorities

Calibration bodies

BEV / PTP

These national standards must be compared with the standards of other countries by means of „key comparisons“ in order to be recognized internationally in line with the CIPM-MRA (inter-national Mutual Recognition Agreement).

The BEV calibration lab covers particularly extraordinary calibrations for special humidity measuring equipment.

Due to direct traceability with the NMI (National Metrology Institute), an NMI certifi cate is of particular interest to accredited calibration authorities.

For the highest measurement authority in a country there is the opportunity to build expertise about the measurement variables. In addition, within the frame of the technical possibilitiesqualifi ed measurements can be performed beyond the OEKD accreditation.

CALIBRATION

CALIBRATION IN A DESIGNATED NMI LABORATORY

The E+E OEKD laboratory is accredited in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025.

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Economics, Family and Youth (BMWFJ) is responsible for the accreditation and supervision.

Each OEKD certificate must be approved by an authorised signatory. OEKD certificates are issued for measuring instruments, which require a particularly high degree of reliability (e.g. works standards) or where measurements need to be traceable.

The term „traceability“ describes a process through which a measurement taken by a measuring instrument can be compared, in one or more steps, with a national standard for the physical value.

These steps must form an uninterrupted chain of calibrations. In each step, a measuring instrument is compared with a standard whose measurement features themselves have been determined by comparison with a higher ranking standard. This process creates a calibration hierarchy or a hierarchy of the testing equipment.

The bodies performing the comparisons within the chain must also have their technical expertise verified, e.g. through accreditation by a calibration authority.

Calibrations performed by other bodies not accredited as calibration authorities are not considered traceable in line with EN ISO 9001 or EN ISO/IEC 17025 (even if they hold certification in accordance with this standard), as in this case, the body‘s technical expertise is not proven.

The measurement uncertainty is a feature of an accredited procedure. It describes to what extent a measurement can be traced to national standards and ultimately to International System of Units (SI units). Usually, an extended measuring uncertainty is specified, which is calculated from the standard uncertainty multi-plied with the extension factor k=2.Each measuring value is associated with a (measurement) uncertainty.

In the calibration hierarchy, testing equipment on a higher level has a lower measuring uncertainty that that on a lower level.

Accreditation in line with EN ISO/IEC 17025 requires that measurement uncertainties are calculated according to EA-4/02 „Guide to Expression of the Uncertainty of Measurement in Calibration, GUM“.

ISO calibrations are comparative measurements taken with E+E reference instruments or systems, which are traceable to international standards with known measuring uncertainties. Comparisons take place based on internal procedures, which meet the requirements of ISO 9000 and ISO TS16949.

This measurement provides a low-priced verification of thecalibration-status of an instrument utilizing high-quality measuringequipment. It verifies the function of an instrument, specifying the measurement error.

In specific cases requirements in accordance with the following standards can be covered:

- ISO/QS 9000- ISO10012-1- GMP- CFR- VDA ISO TS 16949

TRACEABILITY OF MEASURING EQUIPMENT AND CALIBRATION

MEASUREMENT UNCERTAINTY

CALIBRATION TO THE ISO STANDARD

Upon receipt of the measuring equipment an initial calibration iscarried out in accordance with customer‘s specifications. The measured values are documented on a certificate.

If requested, the measuring results will be compared with the specified tolerances of the measuring equipment as part of the initial calibration. If the recorded values for the measuring equipment fall outside the permissible tolerances, the customer may use the information to validate the results of previous quality tests and eventually initiate appropriate corrective action.

At the request of the customer, a quotation will be issued for the cost of repair, respectively the adjustments. If E+E is not able to repair the equipment, it will be either returned to the customer or shipped directly to the manufacturer. Once the equipment has been repaired and adjusted, the measuring values will be documented during the second calibration routine.

Separate certificates are issued for the first and second calibration confirming the measured values ‚as received‘ and‚as delivered‘.

The E+E calibration lab ensures the shortest processing times.

The customer is informed of the scheduled delivery date within 24 hours by means of an order acknowledgment.

• Calibrations performed by the National Metrological Institute

The National Metrological Institute (NMI) or its Designated Institutes (DI) represent the top level of the traceability chain for calib-rations. They maintain the highest national measurement standards and ensure that the measurements correspond to the interna-tional system of units SI. NMIs and DIs participate in international comparative measurements with other NMIs and cooperate in technical committees to ensure that they are the top reference for measurement variables.

The measurement uncertainties of NMIs or DIs do not (or hardly) exceed those of accredited top calibration laboratories but can also be provided for special calibration tasks as part of the internationally agreed calibration options (CMC data) published in the BIPM (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures). Calibration carried out by NMIs and DIs are very extensive, do not address the frequent calibration tasks in industrial measurement, and are therefore only of interest in international comparisons among accredited calibration laboratories. E+E Elektronik, as desig-nated Institute of the Republic of Austria (e.g. for relative humidity), is authorised to carry out calibrations as Designated Institute of the Austrian NMI BEV.

• Calibration by accredited calibration laboratories

The task of accredited calibration centres is to achieve traceability of measurements and calibrations in industrial metrology to the highest national or international standards. Calibration certifi cates from accredited calibration laboratories in the Austrian Calib-ration Service OEKD are recognised public certifi cates, which satisfy the legislative requirements for traceability of calibrations to national and international standards for all relevant regulations and management systems.

Accredited laboratories in the OEKD use validated calibration procedures, the technical details of which have been tested, ap-proved and monitored by the State Accreditation Authority. The contents and stipulated measurement uncertainties in the OEKD calibration certifi cates therefore satisfy all requirements of ISO 17025 and the further legislative rulings of the Austrian Calibrati-on Service; this is not always established according to identical strict regulations even in renowned industrial countries. For this reason, OEKD calibration certifi cates are highly acknowledged internationally. OEKD calibration certifi cates are used to verify the traceability of calibrations for industrial metrology and to provide legal certifi cation for the assured product properties of the pro-ducts tested.

E+E Elektronik is an OEKD calibration laboratory that is authorised to issue such calibration certifi cates for a number of accredited measurement variables and has been offering this service successfully for several years.

• Calibration by calibration service providers

Expert service providers often provide high-grade technical calibrations for almost all industrial measurement variables and a variety of marketing names (for example, ISO Calibration, Industry Service Calibration, etc.). Although these calibrations are performed to a high technical standard, in some cases even using the same equipment and procedures as accredited calibrations, they do not satisfy stringent legal requirements for traceability, since the procedures and measurement uncertainties are not verifi ed in external tests (e.g. verifi ed in the course of accreditation) but are determined and specifi ed only under the responsibility of the calibration service provider.

Even if such calibration certifi cates contain detailed specifi cations for measurement uncertainties and are designed very similar to accredited calibration certifi cates, they are no more than a good expertise for the measured product features. They do not provide proper verifi cation of the traceability of calibrations to national and international standards. Calibrations of this kind can, of course, be offered at a much lower price than accredited calibrations. It is interesting to note that such calibration certifi cates are still being accepted as verifi cation of traceability for calibrations in some fi elds and industries

It is up to the customer to decide which requirements apply to his calibrations and which calibration certifi cate is appropriate and/or required. E+E Elektronik also offers their customers consolidated consultation services in addition to the provision of such calibrati-on certifi cates.

• Factory calibrations

Factory calibrations are not legally valid documents for traceability verifi cation; however, they do contain the manufacturer‘s confi r-mation that the products have been manufactured and inspected in compliance with the applicable regulations using the approp-riate materials and internal monitoring procedures. These calibration certifi cates are issued on the basis of standards like DIN EN 10204, for example, and represent documented fi nal inspections of the producer. Such certifi cates can also be offered at low cost for products, or are included as standard.
