Because the Mass is our sacred time to give and to receive from our God and Savior. Why let that holy hour end when Mass is over? Why not hold on to the Mass experience a little longer?

Would you like to start the preparation season of Advent seeking an increased awareness of what God has in store for you?

Together we will revisit the table of the Lord by re-reading the sa-cred scriptures from the Sunday Mass, share in small groups, reflect and journal. We will start in Advent with the new liturgical year and

continue in January with Ordinary Time. Each session will close with various styles of contemplative prayer to discover where God

In today’s Gospel, Jesus lays judgment on the scribes and Pharisees for the

hypocritical way they lived out their faith. The criticisms he levies are all

about the ways righteousness turns into self-righteousness, and how religious

belief turned into something that was more about elevating themselves than

about what they could do for God or their neighbor. Good stewards know

that discipleship means finding ways to serve, and searching for ways to be a

servant—to live as a servant of Christ. When faith is authentically lived out in

COMMUNITY OUTREACH THRU SOCIAL CONCERNS

Many Fort Bend residents who have never set foot on our campus know St. Laurence best through our Social Concerns Ministry. The extraordinary generosity of our parish family shines through this ministry, as we strive to serve those in need, work for justice, pursue peace and defend life, dignity and rights of all people. Thank you for every dollar you donate and every hour you offer in service to Social Concerns throughout the year!

OUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO DSF

Contributions to the Diocesan Services Fund allow us to impact people across the archdiocese in ways we couldn’t do alone, and historically, our parish surpasses its assigned goal. However, in 2016, we fell $14,363 short and the balance had to be made up from Offertory. This year, with just 2 months left in 2017, we are $87,000 short of our $495,000 goal. ADULTS GROWING IN FAITH

St. Laurence has made adult faith formation a priority by dedicating $200,000 to this ministry in 2017, a 10% increase over the prior year. Throughout the year, we offer a lineup of nationally renowned Catholic speakers to inform and inspire; plus each and every week, hundreds of parishioners attend transformational programs, including Bible studies, men’s groups, marriage enrichment, and various other events for adults.

BUILDING FUND: Ave Maria Center

In 2016-2017, our parish made great progress paying down our one large debt item, the Ave Maria Parish Life Center. This beautiful yet practical facility has become the hub for an amazing amount of parish activity. Our original budget of $16.5 million came in at an actual cost of just under $15.9 million, thanks to the skill and stewardship of our Building Committee. Our loan for the Ave Maria Center was $4.2 million, and as of June 30, 2017, our balance is down to $3.6 million. Your continued generosity to Offertory, DSF, Special Collections and Social Concerns, combined with careful management of these resources, will permit our parish to pay off this debt in just a few short years.

Hurricane Harvey made landfall on August 25, after we closed the books on FY 2016-17, but we could not take this look back without acknowledging the outpouring of care and compassion from our parish community over the past few months. To date, $232,892 in cash has been donated to the St. Laurence Harvey Relief Fund (in addition to over $1 !"##"$%&"%&'$%()*'&+$$',-&)$&./"%+&"!!*'"()*&/*#"*0&(%'&$%+$"%+&/*1$2*/3&)$&4$$'&2"1)"!,5&&6%'&78"#*&)8*&9%(#&%:!.*/,&are still out, it looks like we raised over $22,000 at the Parish Bazaar, which will be directed to Harvey recovery efforts around the archdiocese.
