A married woman living in Uran area committed suicide

by hanging herself in her house. It is learnt, that the lady was fed up with the physical and mental tor-ture of her in-laws. The deceased has been identified as Pragya Ro-hit Sonkar (26). The Uran police have arrested her husband Rohit Sonkar after filing a case against him and mother-in-law for inciting her to commit suicide.

Pragya Sonkar, originally from Mahad, was married to Rohit Bhal-chandra Sonkar of Uran in Decem-ber 2020. At that time, Pragya was given a gold necklace weighing one and a half ounces, 3 pairs of earrings weighing 1 ounce, a silver

belt, a bracelet, and a gold chain weighing 1.5 ounces and a gold ring weighing half an ounce. A few days after the wedding, Prag-ya's husband and in-laws started harassing her to bring money or gold from maternal house, saying that her husband's AC repair shop was not working properly. Pragya was giving information to her par-ents as she was being harassed and was not given food, not paying for expenses, and beating her.

However, her parents were paying her Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for her expenses. Three months ago, Pragya's husband and mother-in-law had quarelled with her and sent her to maternal home to get money. At that time, Pragya's fa-

ther had contacted his son-in-law Rohit Sonkar and sent her, promis-ing to pay him when he received the money. But even after that, Pragya was harassed by her hus-band and mother-in-law. On Sep-tember 15, they again quarelled with her over dinner. He also had an argument with Pragya the next morning.

Pragya had informed her moth-er about this. After that, Pragya committed suicide by hanging herself in the house. After the in-cident, Pragya's mother Chhaya Jamkar lodged a complaint at Uran Police Station. Her husband Ro-hit Sonkar has been arrested, said Ravindra Budhwant, senior police inspector, Uran police station.

The Indian Agricul-ture Act of 2020,

the Farm Bills, which most farmers' union re-fer to as the Black Act, was first passed in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, despite heavy agitations by opposi-tion MPs, without any point-to-point discus-sion in Parliament. Later it was approved by the President on September 27, 2020, exactly one year ago. The Centre's three agricultural laws have been completed in one year. Farmers across the country have been protesting against this law for last one year. Sayukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a parent organi-zation of more than 40 farmers' unions across the country, on Mon-day called for a 'Bharat Bandh', a call supported by all major opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party. There were peaceful protests across the country.

“AAP Navi Mumbai extends full support to the protest,” said Shamb-hau Kadam, Working President, AAP NM.

He said, “Although the central government and a handful of sup-porters are loudly claim-ing that these three laws are revolutionary, there is no clause in these laws that guarantees a mini-mum support price to farmers (MSP). Farmers were eagerly awaiting for these legal provi-sions. Guarantee as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Com-mission, is a key clause in the ruling BJP's elec-tion manifesto. So how can these laws, which do not even mention MSP, can be called revolutionary? That is the question farmers are asking. All these three laws, in the name of privatization, can push the entire agricultural market into the throats of a handful of wealthy

industrialists and will allow them to exploit farmers and small re-tailers, pushing them out of the retail chain. There are clear allega-tions across the country that the central govern-ment's aim is to put the entire agro-industry in the throats of a handful of private entrepreneurs. Today, about 70% of the people in our country are from rural areas, for whom agriculture is the main source of income and employment. Dur-ing the pandemic, the supply of basic food to the urban areas was un-interrupted, due to the farmers in the rural ar-eas. Employment in ru-ral areas also remained secure. Already farmers are facing a lot of chal-

lenges, maintaining this traditional business of our country. Farmers are being exploited and embezzled on all sides. And above this, these three black laws. The general opinion is being expressed as these three black laws should be re-pealed unconditionally.”

AAP Navi Mumbai leaders claim that while no one is very much op-posed towards privatiza-tion, the question arises as to why privatization is under the domination of only a handful of in-dustrialists of its choice, and then why there is no legal obligation of MSP in these laws?

“This raises doubts about the ethics of the central government,” says Kadam.

Kadam further add-ed, “Today, the central government is planning

to hand over large, old, reputed government and semi-government indus-tries across the country to a handful of private entrepreneurs, for one reason or another. If these state-owned en-terprises are in loss, then why are the busi-nessmen taking it and if business can run them for profit, then why can't the government with huge money power and resources, do the same. A good example is that the Aam Aadmi Party's Kejriwal government in Delhi, without privatiz-ing the dilapidated gov-ernment schools, has brought them to the brink of world excellence by removing all irregulari-ties in these schools, by eliminating corruption

and bigotry. Why, the same example does not apply to all government and semi-government businesses? For the first time in the country, the attitude of autonomous institutions is ques-tioned. Allegations are also being made against the governors of various provinces. Dictatorship always comes in secret. The British also entered our prosperous coun-try, as spice traders and became dictators later. It is really annoying to see that the hard work-ing and honest farmers, who have been agitat-ing quietly and patiently since last one year, were branded as Khalistani, extremist, militant by few of the central gov-ernment supporters, just for the sake of opposing without any logical ar-guments.”

After heavy rainfall for consecutive

days, the Morbe Dam, which supplies water to the Navi Mumbai region under the Navi Mumbai Munic-ipal Corporation (NMMC) juris-diction, got filled to its maximum capacity on Sep-tember 28, 2021. As per data of September 28, 99.84 per cent of the dam’s capac-ity with 190.603 million cubic me-ters (MCM) total gross storage was full.

According to Raigad district information offi-cial, it received 3742.00 mm of rainfall which is way above the average rainfall in Raigad dis-

trict. Morbe Dam was tak-

en over by the NMMC for water supply to its residents and now it can assure ample water sup-

ply for the coming year. A rainfall of 18.20 mm of rainfall was reported on Tuesday. This is a good sign for the resi-dents of Navi Mumbai as they would not face water cuts next year due to ample water storage.

The catchment area re-ceived more than 3,700 mm of rainfall. The maximum water level of the dam is 88m and it is currently overflown.

As of Tuesday, it was 87.97 mm.

Except for 2020, dam has overflown every year since 2016 and the same result was ex-pected this year as well.

“We have enough of wa-ter supply for

the coming months and Navi Mumbai probably won’t face water cuts. However, Municipal Commissioner has urged residents to not waste water unnecessarily”, said one of the senior NMMC officials.

A student’s participa-tion in school and

classroom activities not only nurtures them but keeps them happy and active the whole day. Most teachers are always eager to know how to encourage the students for classroom participation as it helps with active learning. An ideal school gives the students the scope and the spirit of healthy competition — to excel at all levels. Classwork and the homework given by teachers has their academic im-portance. But aca-demic distinctions alone do not fulfil all the purpose for which the school exists. The school has to provide such chances and ex-plore out the pearls from the sea depths of the young mind. Art competitions of different levels of students are activities that need to be arranged and the excellence in that to be rewarded and encouraged.

At Ryan Interna-tional School, Nerul this purpose is met at every step by conducting such activities which help the students explore new frontiers and learn something new. The teachers of Montessori, Primary and Secondary conducted an activity to celebrate World Tourism

Day. The activities were vibrant and full of new learning experiences. To begin with, the students of Montessori sections had an activity in which the boys had to dress up in African attire and make masks to go with it. The girls of Montes-sori dressed up as pretty Japanese girls made beautiful paper fans.

The teachers explained them the use of the fans and about the dresses of the respective countries.

Primary teachers conducted a virtual tour of the Sea world, which brings about a lot of cu-riosity to tourists. The teachers showcased videos that transformed their virtual classrooms into a virtual sea world and the students were mesmerised with the beautiful underwater life. The students were

curious to know about the different animals and plant life under water.

The students of Sec-ondary section also had a very colourful and educational activity. The teachers asked the stu-dents to pick their dream destination and make a poster showcasing the beauty of that place. The students undertook

research about that place. This activity not only brought out their creative side, but also helped them learn a lot about the place.

“Co-Curricular activities, when merged with aca-demics, will help students learn ef-fectively. Ryan in-ternational School, Nerul organised number of virtual activities on the occasion of World Tourism Day for the students from Montessori to Sec-ondary sections.

All the activities had active participation. Opening up of personal-ity, developing the latent talents; promotion of the intellectual effort and an opportunity of healthy competition — all these are factors which an educational institution should always encour-age only when it does this, it fulfils its role in the total education of the young,” shared Janet Aranha, Principal of the Institution.

All India Bank of Maharashtra Em-

ployees Federation, Bank of Maharashtra Karmachari Mahasangh, Bank of Maharashtra Karmachari Sena and Mahabank Navnirman Sena organized a one-day symbolic strike in Bank of Maharashtra. In this connection, office bearers and employees of all the four unions came together at Bank of Maharashtra, Panvel to protest for their main demands and leaflets were distributed to the bank customers as to why the bank employees are going on strike.

Speaking on the oc-casion, Arvind More, Assistant Secretary, All India Bank of Ma-harashtra Employees Federation, said that the business of the bank is increasing day by day but the working class

of the bank is declining day by day. This is af-fecting the customer ser-vice of the bank. Arvind More further said that the strike was not car-ried out by the bank employees' unions for any financial gain but to recruit employees in the bank, provide better customer service to the customers and make the bank more prosperous. He further said that due to the shortage of staff in the bank, the work stress has increased tre-mendously and this is affecting the health of the employees. There is not a single clerk in the 55 branches of the bank, there is no peon in about 700 branches. No secu-rity personnel. Tempo-rary employees have not been accommodated in vacancies for the past several years. In such a situation, even in the

Corona epidemic, the bank has done well due to the collective spirit of the current bank em-ployees. The bank has been at the forefront of business growth in the banking industry, rely-ing on its existing staff. He warned that if these demands were not met, the organizations would intensify their agitation in the future and two-day nationwide strike would be called on October 21 and 22 next month.

On this occasion Asmita Gune, Akash Shirvayya, Vijayku-mar Patil, Amol Pawar, Seema Marathe, Kam-lesh Saraf, Naresh Ya-dav, Maheshwari Naik, Sunetra Pranjpe, Shivaji Dalvi, Virendraku-mar Srivastava, Sagar Shinde, Amol Bhoir, Uday Kamble, Vaman-rao Gaikwad and others were present.

Chasing a below par score of 135, de-fending champions Mumbai Indians

(MI) ended their three-match losing streak with a hard-fought win over Punjab Kings with six wickets in hand and an over to spare in the second phase of the Indian Premier League 2021 being held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. All-rounder Hardik Pandya (40 n.o) hit the winning runs with a flat six over long-on in the penultimate over, off pacer Mohammed Shami who had dis-missed him thrice in the 13 balls of contest between the two in IPL. The junior Pandya scored 16 of the 17 runs in the company of West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pol-lard (15 n.o), to put MI’s campaign back on track for a place in the top four. With their fifth win in 11 outings MI are placed fifth in the league table. MI in fact were rocked by 21-year-old leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi who struck twice in consecutive balls to remove MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the fourth itself to leave the five times champions totter-ing at 16 for 2, before Quinton de Kock and Saurabh Tiwary steadied the innings with a 45 run stand for the third wicket. Southpaw de Kock (27) was dismissed by Shami. The reliable Tiwary (45) once again held the innings together to ensure the run chase was on target in the com-pany of Hardik Pandya before edging one behind to wicketkeeper K L Rahul off Na-than Ellis, with MI still needing 44 runs in 4,5 overs.

Earlier put into bat Punjab Kings lost Mandeep Singh in the powerplay to Krunal Pandya who also upheld the spirit of the game later and took back his appeal of running out skipper KL Rahul at the non-striker end of his own bowling, after the batsman was hit by Chris Gayle's power-ful straight drive. However, it was Kieron Pollard, who landed two massive blows in the seventh over as he had the better of Chris Gayle and PBKS skipper KL Rahul

in the space of three balls. Jasprit Bumrah then had the better of Nicholas Pooran as MI reduced PK to 48/4. Aiden Markram (42) and Deepak Hooda (28) staged a valuable recovery with a 61-run stand to push their team past the triple figure mark before Markram was dismissed for 42 by Rahul Chahar in the 16th over at the team score of 110. Two overs later, Bumrah got Hooda out as MI eventually limited their rivals to 135/6.

Man of the Match Kieron Pollard post the match shared that the team does not plan to take it to the death as there is a lot of pressure on the players to win all the games at the backend. "But what we have in the dressing room is belief - belief in one another and belief that we can get ourselves out of any situation. We have guys who have been there in tough times, in different scenarios, at different times. At the end of the day, we've put ourselves in a situation where we are at now. So it's just about us sticking together and getting ourselves out of it." added Pollard.

A relieved MI skipper Rohit Sharma, added that the end of the three-match losing streak was a much-needed confi-dence booster for the side that is a part of the mid-table race. "We do agree that we didn't play to our potential, but it's a long tournament and we need to stick to our plans and reading the situations is very important and we can take a lot of confidence from that. It's important not to lose” shared Sharma.

Mumbai Indians next take on arch ri-vals Delhi Capitals in their next outing to be played on Saturday 2nd October at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.

Brief Scores: punjab kings: 135/6 (Aiden Markram 42, Deepak Hooda 28; Kieron Pollard 2/8) lost to Mumbai Indi-ans: 137/4 in 19 overs (Saurabh Tiwary 45, Hardik Pandya 40; Ravi Bishnoi 2/25) by 6 wickets. Man of the Match: Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians)

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor-poration appears to have sudden-

ly realized its role as an authority for regulating development activity in Navi Mumbai. Its decision to demol-ish unauthorized constructions ap-pears to be a step in this direction. A brief survey of the city has revealed some startling figures with respect to illegal constructions. It was found that in Navi Mumbai too, there are ample examples of unauthorized structures. This sorry state of affairs could have been easily avoided had the authorities realized their duties on time and had they taken stern measures against the defaulters right in the beginning. As this was not forthcoming, some of the prominent structures in Vashi and several nodes in the city are a sad saga of illegal constructions going on under the very nose of the regulatory authori-ties. To add to the problem, most of these structures are today inhabited by the innocent occupants/buyers and therefore any action against these is bound to create a great deal of op-position, furore and legal tussles.

Illegal constructions grew rap-idly especially in Gaothan areas a few years back. Hundreds of these have either been sold or rented out. NMMC instead of taking action ap-pears to be encouraging their growth by providing them with all the es-sential amenities like drinking wa-ter, electricity, drainage connections etc. In many residential buildings, ground floors or stilts have been con-verted to commercial shopping com-plexes, garages, workshops etc. but no action is ever taken against them.

Had the timely action been taken, the menace could have been curbed in its infancy. However, only recently NMMC seems to have undergone a change in its policy. It has now start-ed unleashing its whip against the il-legal structures.

While there is no denying that il-legal constructions should not be en-couraged and the defaulters should be severely punished, but to demolish the structure especially when these are occupied by the residents, is not the correct step. The best course of action at this stage would perhaps be to regularize these illegal or irregular constructions. The builders should be fined heavy penalties and the il-legal constructions, if not yet sold, should be taken over by the authori-ties. Only those structures which hinder the development process like extension to the hotels, shops etc. which block the footpaths and the pathways should be demolished. Action of regularizing illegal struc-tures should not generate a feeling of weak administration. To avoid that, the builders should be fined in geo-metric progression to their offence. Since the authorities are equally responsible for such constructions stern action should be taken against them as well. These measures would go a long way in the proper plan-ning of the development activity in Navi Mumbai. Regularising rather than demolishing the unauthorized structures with penalties to the build-ers would not only save the already created assets but will also save the traumatized residents from sleepless nightmares.

Timely action is the need of the hourBy ashok Dhamija

It is a known phenomenon that the latter half of the

monsoon season and the onset of winters also bring the Flu season. But seldom do people know that this period also brings along a higher risk of heart failure. There is enough evidence showing that people with heart dis-eases and those who have had a stroke are at higher risk of developing severe complications from Flu. Hence, if you have had any heart disease or stroke in the recent past, it is vital to get a Flu vaccine every season to stay protect-ed against potential risks. Dr Brajesh Kunwar, Director-Interventional Car-diology, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital Vashi shares valuable insights with Newsband readers on this topic on the eve of World Heart Day. The excerpts are as follows: How does the Flu impact the Heart?

According to the Center of Dis-ease Control and the Harvard Medical School, Flu illness is associated with an increased risk of heart attacks and stroke. A 2018 study found that the risk of a heart attack was six times higher within a week of confirmed Flu infection. For those with under-lying heart conditions such as Ar-rhythmias or coronary disease, a Flu infection can exacerbate these ail-ments. This often results in hospitali-sations for heart attacks, heart failure, and Arrhythmias. A Flu infection in-creases stress on the heart by increas-ing heart rate, blood pressure and re-leasing an excess of intrinsic stress hormones called Catecholamines. This creates immense strain on the organ, and those who have a weak heart may not be able to handle it.

It always starts with the Flu symptoms of an infection in the up-per and the lower airways. A patient will have congested air pathways and develop fever, cough, causing immense stress on the heart. The patient may also create a secondary infection, thus, accen-tuating the problem. In most cases, the initial symptoms are ignored, and people land up with an acute decompensated heart leading to organ failure. In India, people tend to develop recur-rent Flu infections ham-pering their heart health. How does Vaccination

help? Vaccination has been

associated with lower

rates of cardiac ailments among people with underlying heart diseases, especially those who have had a cardiac event in their recent past. Flu vaccines are up-dated as needed each season to keep up with changing viruses. As immunity wanes over a year

or so, annual vaccination ensures the best possible protection against flu. One essential fact to note is that when-ever we come across people with heart failure, we prescribe the patient, Influ-enza and Pneumococcal vaccination.

What are the steps needed to be taken while tackling Heart Failure?

Managing and treating heart fail-ure is and should always be a com-bined team effort of Cardiologists and physicians to monitor Flu triggers. The checklist for care giving must include vaccination, correction of the Iron status of the patient, as well fol-lowing the guideline-directed medical treatment for heart failures. It is vital to note that the most effective manage-ment mechanism for controlling heart failure is to reduce hospitalisation. And vaccination is one way to do so. We have seen several cases of cardiac patients who avail of Flu vaccination every year have been able to live a bet-ter quality of life. Remember, recur-rent hospitalisation doubles and triples the risk of heart failure and loss of life.

Dr Brajesh Kunwar, Cardiologist, Cardiac Surgeon and Cardiothoracic Surgeon with over a decade of experi-ence in his concluding remarks on the brighter side shared that even though medical facilities are improving day by day its important to come for-ward and get themselves oneself regu-larly checked and prevent any major issues in the later years. It goes without saying that a healthy diet and lifestyle are major factors that can improve heart health for both men and women.

The drivers of the Navi Mumbai Mu-

nicipal Corporation’s vehicle department have expressed anguish over the delay in the payment of their salaries by the contractor since the past one year. The drivers say that they receive de-layed salaries after two to three months which is leading to financial issues.

Many drivers have even formed Unions with an aim to highlight this issue with the offi-cials and the contractor, but so far there has been no success in resolving the issue. They say that they even had a meeting with the NMMC com-missioner and he was updated with the issue. That too has failed to yield the desired results.

A driver (who pre-fers to be unnamed) said, “This has become a frequent phenomenon. The contractors keep giving us excuses for delayed payment. We

also know that it is not the civic body which is delaying the payment. It is the contractor who is not giving us the payment on time. Due to delayed payment, we are facing financial problems at home. We receive Rs. twenty-one thousand and five hun-dred as the salary while the exact salary which we need to get is twenty eight thousand six hun-dred and ninety eight rupees. Apart from this, we have not received any Covid-19 relief mon-etary funds and even the state relief fund.”

Another driver said, “We are getting paid after three months with only one month's salary which is mak-ing things difficult to manage. When we ask the contractors about it, they blame it on the civic body saying that the payment is getting delayed from their end. After enquiring about the same in NMMC we found that the civic

body is making pay-ment on time to the contractors. It is getting really difficult for us to run the household with no proper cycle of mon-ey coming in. We re-quest the civic body to find some solution at the earliest. Many drivers even fear of losing their job if they complaint about the contractors.”

Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Vehi-cle Department Manoj Kumar Mahale said, “After enquiring about the same, we have found that the drivers have not submitted the log book which is why the pay-ment has got delayed. Once the logbook is received, payment will be done to all of them.”

To this another driver mentioned, “Log Books can only be sub-mitted once it is filled by the concerned offi-cials which will be done by 3rd October. We have also demanded as to why we are not get-ting the full payment?”

cial distancing in place”, Chairperson of Lakshyam, Mrs. Poonam Anand.

“Also, Lakshyam has installed a hand-pump in one of the slum areas of Ghaziabad. Due to this, overall 5oo people have benefited directly and 5000 indirectly. They plan to install a few more in the coming months”, she added.

Lakshyam’s team distributed ration kits to 100 families living in the village named Namkum, located in the out-skirts of Ranchi (Capital of Jharkhand State). Lakshyam's major motivation for distributing these kits was to sup-port the less fortunate people. A total of 100 persons attended the event.

Taking immedi-ate notice of the

recurring traffic jam on the main highway and Ghodbunder road in Thane on Monday, Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde con-vened a meeting of all concerned including the traffic police and ordered to fix park-ing lot space for heavy vehicles. Mr. Shinde will personally inspect open spaces in Navi Mumbai, Kharegaon, Shahapur and Dapchari on Wednesday.

In the last few days, there has been a huge traffic jam in Thane. The potholes on the roads and the ongo-ing development work in the city are adding to the traffic conges-tion. Heavy vehicles were passing through Thane as repair work of Versova bridge and Mumbra bypass on Mumbai-Ahmedabad road was underway. As a result, there was an unprecedented traffic jam on the city roads and the citizens had to get stuck in it for hours.

The tanker overturned at midnight on Monday, once again causing a traffic jam on Ghod-bunder Road. Therefore, Urban Development Minister and Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde immediately convened a meeting of Thane Police, Traffic Police, Rural Police, Thane Municipal Corporation and other agencies.

The meeting was attended by Vikram Deshmane, Superinten-dent of Police, Thane Rural Division, Vinay Rathore, Deputy Com-missioner of Police, Thane Police, Vijaykant Sagar, Deputy Com-missioner of Police, Mira Bhayander. Thane Municipal Corporation Executive Engineer Ramdas Shinde and other officials were present. It was clarified in today's meeting that the oil tanker overturned at Gaimukh on Ghod-bunder Road, causing a traffic jam on Monday.

The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday to stop heavy vehicles from construct-ing parking lots outside

the city and stop them in stages until road repairs are completed to reduce road congestion.

Vehicles leaving JNPT will be stopped in the parking lot adja-cent to JNPT. To stop vehicles coming from Nashik to Mumbai on Mumbai-Nashik highway, parking lots will be set up at Khardi-Sonale-Dapode, vehicles coming from Ahmedabad to Mumbai at Dapchari and on both sides of Kharegaon toll naka for planning of vehicles coming from Thane city. Heavy vehicles will be stopped at these places and these vehicles will be released in the city in a phased manner through the transport department, so that traffic planning can be done. Guardian Minister Shinde will personally inspect the premises of the planned parking lot and after that the parking lot will be sealed.

This will be the planning till the repair and repair work of all the major roads in Thane city is completed.

Holds emergency meeting with police and municipal officials

An awareness workshop was held to help the residents understand the importance of waste segregation into wet and dry waste by the Panvel City Municipal Corporation. Ward committee chairperson Sushila Jagdish Gharat and officials were present on the occasion.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor-poration (NMMC) has always

been at the forefront in implement-ing various health related campaigns. Accordingly, under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar, Sub-Nation-al Pulse Polio vaccination campaign was successfully implemented under the ju-risdiction of the NMMC on Sunday as per the guidelines of Central and State Govern-ments.

During the campaign six-ty five thousand five hundred and sixty four children were vaccinated against pulse po-lio at seven hundred and twenty three booths in the municipal area.

The children who did not receive the dose will be given the pulse polio dose during the door-to-door cam-paign from September 27th.

Proper Covid 19 safety protocols

were observed at all the booths. The children were given hand sanitizers before and after vaccination. The vac-cine was administered from a distance to ensure that the child's chin was held

by the parents and that the dropper would not touch baby's mouth. The finger marking was done by asking the parents to hold the child's finger without touching the child even while marking the finger after being vacci-nated.

The last week of the month of September

is observed as the In-ternational Week of the Deaf. To mark the oc-casion, the Navi Mum-bai Municipal Corpora-tion has put up posters around the city and is conducting various cam-paigns with an aim to spread aware-ness among the residents on hear-ing impairment.

The Navi Mumbai Munici-pal Corporation’s (NMMC) ETC department is also carrying out vari-ous activities for the hearing-impaired people in the city during the week. Various work-shops and seminars are being conducted online to spread basic aware-ness on how to work with hearing impaired people.

The head of the ETC Department Varsha Bhagat said, “With dif-ferent person with dis-abilities week or days

(PWD’s) we keep on spreading awareness about various disabili-ties and also conduct activities and schemes for them actively all throughout the year. 28th September is considered to be the deafness aware-ness day and it goes on throughout the week. We

are conducting various workshops for the par-ents to understand how they can include various activities in their day-to-day lifestyle. These workshops explain to the parents about vari-ous hearing laws and how to take care of hear-ing aids of their children and other basic rules that parents need to be well aware of with a child who has hearing impair-

ment. We teach what the parents are supposed to do if a child is deaf.”

Bhagat further added, “We are also planning to provide the children and the people with hearing impairment, masks print-ed with the international logo of deaf awareness which is used world-

wide. We hope that these activities will help people be aware about the various disabilities. The response of these workshops has been good as many parents and various NGOs have joined us to gain

more knowledge on the same.”

NMMC’s ETC de-partment also helps the PWD’s with various fi-nancial aids and medical aids if registered with them. At present, the ETC Centre at Vashi of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has been converted into Covid Care Centre, so it is not being advised to visit the premises.
