NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2017 9 HOLE LADIES - We have had a very busy time this month. Several of us attended the fun day at Tasman early this month. It was mixed with men and women, 18 and 9- hole golfers of any ability. It was an enjoyable day for everyone. A couple of days later we were off to Motueka for a Pink Lady tournament. At last they had a fine day after having to cancel several tournaments earlier this year. As usual Totaradale was well represented. For the first time Waahi Taakaro included 9 hole players in their Vets tournament. A most successful day and the first time playing that course for some of us. On November 17 th we held our annual meeting for 9-holes. We played a Pink Lady competition and also had our prize giving. A very busy but fun day. Our present committee is continuing for 2018. A number of 9- hole ladies attended the club AGM this year. We are busy organising our Christmas Tournament for early December. We enjoy our golf! Cheers Sue Paine PRESIDENT REPORT - Another year almost over and as you may have already been informed I was elected as President at last Monday's AGM for the coming year. Thanks to all the members who attended the AGM and also those who attended the annual meetings for their sections and contributed to the democratic election process. The election of officers and key personnel is a very important event not only for the main Committee but also to that of any sub-committee; these members take an active role in how the club functions. I personally would like to thank all those who have volunteered to take on such responsibilities for the coming year and look forward to working closely together. On behalf of the club I would also like to thank those members who have stepped down from these positions, your contributions have been very much appreciated and I trust that after a short break to re-charge the batteries we can welcome you all back in the near future. The past financial year was a difficult one having lost a few members to natural attrition, a downturn in green fees, the clubhouse fire and a horrendously wet winter all contributed to a tough trading year. However, I feel the future is bright and encourage you all to play as much golf as you can, bring along the family, the grandkids, the neighbours, your mates from work - this is your club!. Amber and Paula are settling nicely and they would be more than happy to see you all in the clubhouse after your round. Good golfing. Mike Hrynkiw MID WEEK MEN - Hi to one and all, The report for November. We came 4th equal in the Hickory held at Waahi Taakaro on 134 points, the winners who were the locals had 158, so a bit lacking. Thursday the 9th John Ayers had a hole in one on hole number 17, which was duly celebrated. The competitions for the year were completed and the various trophies were presented on Tuesday the 21st, the full list of the winners and runners up will be put on the notice board at the back door. The Vets tournament was held on Thursday the 16th and thankfully the weather was fine and we had a field of 59 of which 17 were ladies, the scores reflected the excellent condition of the course and the comments from the visitors were pleasing to hear so John, well done. The winners on 44 points were Peter Pinnock and for the ladies Helen White also on 44 points, so they share the Watkins Cup which is awarded to the highest score by a Totaradale member at the November Tournament. The annual selection of the Committee for 2018 was completed and I remain Mid-week captain and the following are the committee, Stan Friend, Dennis Hamill, Bill Beaument and Dennis Hall who is also the Hickory selector. So good golfing for the coming year. Ron

9 HOLE LADIES - We have had a very busy time this month. Several of us attended the fun day at Tasman early

this month. It was mixed with men and women, 18 and 9- hole golfers of any ability. It was an enjoyable day for

everyone. A couple of days later we were off to Motueka for a Pink Lady tournament. At last they had a fine day after

having to cancel several tournaments earlier this year. As usual Totaradale was well represented. For the first time

Waahi Taakaro included 9 hole players in their Vets tournament. A most successful day and the first time playing that

course for some of us. On November 17th

we held our annual meeting for 9-holes. We played a Pink Lady competition

and also had our prize giving. A very busy but fun day. Our present committee is continuing for 2018. A number of 9-

PRESIDENT REPORT - Another year almost over and as you may have already been informed I was elected as

President at last Monday's AGM for the coming year.

Thanks to all the members who attended the AGM and also those who attended the annual meetings for their sections

and contributed to the democratic election process. The election of officers and key personnel is a very important event

not only for the main Committee but also to that of any sub-committee; these members take an active role in how the

club functions. I personally would like to thank all those who have volunteered to take on such responsibilities for the

coming year and look forward to working closely together.

On behalf of the club I would also like to thank those members who have stepped down from these positions, your

contributions have been very much appreciated and I trust that after a short break to re-charge the batteries we can

welcome you all back in the near future.

The past financial year was a difficult one having lost a few members to natural attrition, a downturn in green fees, the

clubhouse fire and a horrendously wet winter all contributed to a tough trading year. However, I feel the future is

bright and encourage you all to play as much golf as you can, bring along the family, the grandkids, the neighbours, your

mates from work - this is your club!. Amber and Paula are settling nicely and they would be more than happy to see you

all in the clubhouse after your round.

Good golfing.

MID WEEK MEN - Hi to one and all,

The report for November. We came 4th equal in the Hickory held at Waahi Taakaro on 134 points, the winners who were

the locals had 158, so a bit lacking. Thursday the 9th John Ayers had a hole in one on hole number 17, which was duly

celebrated.

The competitions for the year were completed and the various trophies were presented on Tuesday the 21st, the full list

of the winners and runners up will be put on the notice board at the back door. The Vets tournament was held on

Thursday the 16th and thankfully the weather was fine and we had a field of 59 of which 17 were ladies, the scores

reflected the excellent condition of the course and the comments from the visitors were pleasing to hear so John, well

done.

The winners on 44 points were Peter Pinnock and for the ladies Helen White also on 44 points, so they share the Watkins

Cup which is awarded to the highest score by a Totaradale member at the November Tournament.

The annual selection of the Committee for 2018 was completed and I remain Mid-week captain and the following are the

committee, Stan Friend, Dennis Hamill, Bill Beaument and Dennis Hall who is also the Hickory selector. So good golfing for

the coming year.

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT - Hi, for my first Club Captains report I have the delight to let members know that

the mens representatives at the Champion of Champions last Sunday WON the Teams event. Not only that,

every player made it into the prizes. Bill Vercoe won the Junior Gross overall, Colin Eathorne came

runner up in the Intermediate Nett and Mark Topia came runner up in the Senior Nett. Well Done boys.

This Saturday is the Xmas tournament so if you haven't got your name in for either a morning or afternoon start

contact Amber or Paula to put your name down.

I have got the hard task to follow on from Mike Hrynkiw in this position so I hope I can get the support of mem-

bers to assist more so with the Sunday competitions.

That’s enough from me for now, so good golfing and keep your water bottle and sunscreen handy.

PROVING TO BE POPULAR!!

9 or 18 Holes $10 Only

All Summer Long

Tee Up for Ten Buck Thursdays.

A great way to introduce friends to the game

of golf. So please help by letting your friends

and family know about this fantastic offer!!!

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE GREENKEEPER - Well that’s nearly another year gone. The Course has cer-

tainly changed a bit over the last couple of weeks. The dry weather set in very quickly. We are a couple of

weeks ahead of a normal year regarding the dryness of the course. You will notice a few other changes as well.

Even though we started the change of the drain across the fairways of 1, 8 & 9 some time ago we were weather

and volunteer time dependant on getting the topsoil in. This happened the last weekend of November. A big

thank-you to Gabby and Taylors Contracting, and also Coxy for organising this. Gabby volunteered his time and

Taylors Contracting supplied the truck and soil to the club for free. I will be working out a way to get some wa-

ter for irrigation to this area so we can sow asap.

Another major project just finished last weekend (which was still on Coxy’s bucket list) was to widen the main

drain along the practice area and extend it with a swale to catch the run off water from #3 fairway . A huge

thank-you to Rob Tiare for doing a fantastic job on the digger, NBC for the use of the digger and Coxy for driving

the truck, supervising and organising the whole project. Great job, well done.

I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, happy golfing.

John

LAWN FERTILSER - Due to members asking the Green Keeper about lawn fertiliser the club has FOR SALE 10kg

bags for $25.00. Please see John and he will get this for you.

RULES CORNER

18 HOLE LADIES REPORT - It’s been another busy month. We finally got the Championships finished and

congratulations to Yvonne Burbidge for winning the Junior A in a good match with Clare Heslop. Lines

trophy has been won by Lian Wilson, congratulations.

We had a great weekend in Greymouth at the Tasman District Champion of Champions. Thanks Mike for

coping with the van full of women and driving us safely there and back. Despite the very wet ground

conditions our team played really well and came second equal in the Rosebowl competition 2 points behind

Greymouth. Congratulations to Adrianne Wislang on having the best nett in silver division and Fran

Sutherland for runner up gross in bronze division.

It was great to see 25 of our ladies receiving trophies and vouchers for their achievements throughout the

year. Unfortunately attendance at our club prize giving was poor and this is something we need to address

next year to make it a celebration of our winners.

Congratulations to the re-elected members of our committee and welcome aboard Audrey Barron as vice cap-

tain. We also have Pat Hrynkiw as secretary, Cherie Hancock as treasurer and Fran Sutherland, Sue Rawson,

Lynne Ferguson and Clare Heslop as our committee members. Thank you to those who attended the meeting.

31 of us had a wonderful night out to celebrate our 5 ladies who have recently turned or about to turn 70

years of age. This was a great event with many stories told and much laughter had. We have planned out the

next 6 years with a steady stream of members turning 60, 70 or 80.

Seasons Greetings to you all.

Pip Edwards, Ladies Club Captain

As you may have already seen there are several piles of soil around the course as work is underway to build

new tees, fill in the bunker on #8 and finish off the piping of the old water hazard running across 8, 9 and 1

fairways. All of these improvements will add to your enjoyment of playing the course.

However, whilst this work is being carried out, these areas will be GUR [Ground Under Repair] although they

may not be marked as such, it would be too impractical and costly to do so.

So what happens if your ball comes to rest in one of these areas? Rule 25-1 fully covers the situation but

here's the shortened version.

If your ball lies in one of these areas or the area interferes with your stance or swing then you get free relief.

Simply work out where your nearest point of relief is [no nearer the hole] and lift your ball [no need to mark

it] and drop it within one club length of the nearest point of relief. That's it! your ball is now in play.

SATURDAY MENS REPORT - Now that we have had Captains Trophy and prize giving, congratulations to

all the winners, and thank-you to everyone else, because without you all we can’t have winners.

With November & December being the Stoneyfield competitions we will have plenty of Nett rounds so good

luck in those.

Heading into Christmas I would like to wish everyone a good Christmas and happy new year. Happy golfing

over the holidays and back into golf January.

Regards Ross.

RESULTS AND DRAW PUBLISHMENT: Unfortunately the Nelson Evening Mail have undergone a restructure and due to this they have advised us they

will no longer be publishing local sports results and draws. There will be no local sports reporter attached to

the Nelson Evening Mail which is a shame for all Nelson and Tasman district sports clubs.

So please look on our Totaradale Golf Club website for updated draw and results. We are also making enquiries

with the Nelson/Waimea Weekly paper to see if they would be interested in publishing the draw and results.

Will keep you posted on the outcome of this. Thanks Amber.

We are aware that Golf can be a dangerous game and thus have taken steps to make

players aware of specific danger zones which are well sign posted on our 9 hole Golf

over this period with us learning the ropes and your willingness to lend a hand or words of advice, it’s all very

much appreciated. We’ve both quickly come to appreciate there’s a lot to learn about keeping Totaradale run-

ning as a well oiled machine and we are both doing our utmost to keep things running smoothly. With silly sea-
