Have a coach use timer to track time.

Ball Exchange -- Easy but important ● Center Stance

○ Feet shoulder width ○ Knee bent○ fingers on laces○ Ball should be in front of head ○ Soft toss through legs○ Release when elbow reaches knee○ REMEMBER center CAN go out for pass

● QB○ Confident ○ Clear voice ○ Control ○ Eyes on field always hands up

Throwing● Grip

○ Fingers on laces near nose of ball○ Firm hold○ Use other hand to hold ball when dropping back

● Shoulders /Feet○ Shoulders Point to target○ Feet square with shoulders

● Throw○ Cock arm back to about 90 degrees○ Step into throw with lead foot○ Eyes on target

● Release ○ Let ball flow out of fingers○ Release at ear○ Follow through pointing to target

Run Game● Stance

○ Athletic stance ■ Shoulder width ■ Bent knees ■ Proud chest■ On toes enough to slide paper

● Hand off○ Take ball in stomach DO NOT GRAB

■ Running left right hand on top■ Running right left hand on top

● Ball Handling ○ Fingertips on nose ○ Tucked into elbow○ V for Victory

● Schemes○ Spread

■ Spread receivers out to open up running lines○ Misdirection → This is HUGE in flag football

■ Counters, off steps, fake sweeps, fake handoffs

Drills● Hand off practice

○ Two lines facing each other about 15 yards apart○ Player runs towards other line and hands off ball to other line ○ Player takes ball using correct technique and then runs to opposite line and hands off○ Repeat

● Live play review ○ QB and RB work together going over plays○ Coach should look for correct timing, technique

● Cuts, Moves, Speed○ Players take hand off○ Moves down field using different moves as they approach players how are stand still

Pass Game● Identify defense

○ Man ○ Zone

● Scheme○ Crossing routes ○ Mix up routes

■ shallow / mid level / deep○ Distance between receivers ○ Razzle Dazzle

■ Create Deception■ Toss pass

● Catching○ Fingers up - fingers down○ Eye contact○ Catch then move○ KEEP RUNNING TO THE BALL DON’T SLOW

Passing Routes

Drills ● Catch First Drill

○ Receiver runs route but MUST STOP at a designated spot. This is where QB will throw ball too○ Once ball is caught Receiver then turns up field runs 5-10 yards

● Two passing lines ○ QB in middle○ One line goes at a time ○ Lines run different routes ○ Players rotate lines

● Live routes ○ Players run play routes together ○ If no plays are know catch can just tell player the routes they are running ○ Players complete routes together as QB decides who to through too

Defense ● FLAG PULLING

○ Most important practice practice practice○ Drills into fun games ○ Break down in front○ WATCH MIDSECTION (Belly)○ Anticipate a move○ USE SIDELINE → FORCE OUR

● Pass coverage○ High Hat = Pass ○ Watch hips for turns in routes

● Run coverage ○ Low Hat = Run○ Watch QB and RBs Midsection to follow moves

Schemes ● Man

○ All Defensive players cover ONE offensive player around the whole field○ WATCH YOUR RECEIVERS NOT QB○ Positives

■ you create match-up you want■ Skill vs skill

○ Negatives ■ Crossing routes and speed routes can hurt because offense can create

unwanted 1 on 1 ■ Players can become too aggressive

Schemes ● Zone

○ Defending a specific area on field○ All receivers must stay in front of defenders ○ Defenders communicate with each other with where receivers are going○ WATCH THE QB NOT JUST THE RECIEVERS ○ Positives

■ Doesn’t allow offense to find miss matches ■ Can trap QB into forcing a pass

○ Negatives ■ Crossing patterns or flooding a zone can cause players to get open easy■ Players get lost in their “Zone” don’t want to leave

Drills● The Gauntlet

○ Set up a box 5 yards wide 7-10 yards long○ One player stands one side of box while the team is

in a line on the other○ Offensive players are in a line and will ONE by ONE

try to make it across the box○ The ONE defensive player tries to pull flags○ You can split into two groups

● Sweep Drill○ Set up two cones 10-15 yards apart and about 10-15

yards from sideline. Place a third cone in the middle of the

○ Offense and defense start at the same time running towards the opening between the middle cone without going out of bounds

○ Defender tries to pull flag or force ball carrier out of bounds
