David lives in the Bay Area and is a native Californian, which is reflected in the sun-dappled streets and waterfront imagery that dominate his work. Although largely self-taught as a watercolor painter, he credits his 30 years as a practicing architect with having given him the drawing skills and strong sense of perspective that have elevated his artwork to a professional level. David s works capture random moments—on the street, in nature, and wherever else his portable easel takes him. “I enjoy working outdoors because it’s unpredictable and lends itself to a kind of spontaneity you just can’t get in a studio,” he says. Painting outdoors, especially in the urban settings he favors, requires adaptability and above all speed. Usually the elements are a factor, like the changing light (or more dramatically, the onset of a thunderstorm); and the most alluring subjects/ scenarios are often fleeting or temporary at best. The challenges involved in painting outside are essential to what makes this peculiar art form so vital, and a big part of David’s efforts to create the feeling and energy of spontaneous work. “When you paint outdoors, you’re completely immersed in the scene—the atmosphere, the mood,” says David. “You’re just soaking it in, feeling the subject—empathy—and actually capturing its essence. When I look at one of my paintings, I feel the energy of that place or scene like I was there yesterday. Ultimately, that’s the feeling I’m trying to induce in others who see my work.” David’s passion for outdoor painting isn’t limited to his own sketches and paintings, he also teaches it, offering classes distinguished by their intimate size and the generous amount of personal instruction he provides. His expert instruction enables students to improve their artistic skills and knowledge. Art critic Brian Sherwin commented on David’s artwork stating “Artist David Savellano’s artwork reveals the harmony that can be found between controlled marks spurred by dedication and spontaneity, bold marks that can only be made by an artist who is comfortable working loosely.” Sherwin adds, “ David’s artwork is the perfect meshing of controlled marks and loose marks ‘fueled’ by split second instinct. That energy which involves critical thinking and a keen eye for observation serves as the essence of his practice.”

Join us for an entertaining evening with Plein Air Watercolor artist David Savellano.

Usually the elements are a factor, like the changing light (or more dramatically, the onset of a thunderstorm); and the most alluring subjects/scenarios are often fleeting or temporary at best.

Ultimately, that’s the feeling I’m trying to induce in others who see my work.”

David’s passion for outdoor painting isn’t limited to his own sketches and paintings, he also teaches it, offering classes distinguished by their intimate size and the generous amount of personal instruction he provides. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!

Steve Bloom & Azar Vaghefi A BIG Thank You to all our members and patrons for supporting ADAS in our efforts to offer

as a member opportunities and to bring the arts into the communities for all to enjoy. Your membership in ADAS includes a connection with your local arts community and being around

other artists to share ideas and continue to grow in your art field.

Benefits of Membership include a monthly newsletter, monthly meetings with demonstrations by renowned artists, opportunity to participate in the Blackhawk Gallery, Rotating Gallery program, ADAS

juried art shows and many opportunities to Volunteer.

We also a Free Art DVD library covering many how to DVD’s to enjoy at home. You will also have a member listing on ADAS website www.adas4art.org.

**************************************************************************************************** We are looking for a member to take care of the DVD Video Library.

It is a small job but very important to the enjoyment of our members. There is one box that carries all the DVD’s and needs to be at each monthly meeting for members to return and pick up DVD’s. Please

call Megan at 925-426-9295 if you are willing to take this on.

****************************************************************************************************

As we gear up for a very busy and exciting year ahead we are looking for Volunteers to lead the way on several projects. Our Art in the Park show in October was a great success and thanks to many generous Corporate Sponsors and Volunteers. We raised over 8,000.00 toward the Schools Art Program. San Ramon Arts Foundation is again on board for October 4th & 5th, 2014.

We will be meeting with their Show Chairperson, Kim Lonie on the 27th to start planning for this years show. We need one volunteer as Our ADAS Chairperson. We have a wonderful “How To” Book available for the Chairperson. That Person will be supported by Tom Lemmer who is already onboard to take in artist entries. Megan Parks-Haller is again in charge of the Children’s Activities Area.

The AIP Chairperson’s job is supported by several volunteers and will only be handing details regarding artists. The Inside Art Show in the Community Center could use a Volunteer to coordinate that area. You can soon enter the Art in the Park show on our Website and you will be seeing email notices on how to enter. This is a Juried show and we will be taking entries and photos and payments online soon.

*******************************************************************************************************************************Our Annual “PRIMAVERA” Spring Show & Wine Stroll at the Blackhawk Center is May 17th & 18th The deadline for entries is May 1st. The Entry form is now an on-line process.

www.adas4art.org/primavera-2014-call-for-artists

Start thinking about getting your paintings ready and where you might enjoy volunteering for a few hours. Last year the Wine Stroll raised $1,700.00 for the school fund and the Blackhawk Center has offered their help organizing the Wineries for this show. As always we look for volunteers to help with receiving, installation, takedown, wine pouring for the two days and reception helpers. .

paintings of Napa Valley and business

savvy. Now she speaks to artists about

marketing strategy. Rea is eager to destroy

the “starving artist” myth by leading artists

away from the broken, scarcity and

permission based art establishment and

towards creative freedom through

entrepreneurship. She recently authored

The Alamo-Danville Artists' Society (ADAS) was founded as a non-profit organization in 1977 by Beth Batchelor and Ida Farese. Our mission is to foster fine art appreciation and education within our communities and to provide the opportunity for artists to further their artistic development. In an effort to support art education, ADAS established an outreach program in 1992 and by 1995, this effort expanded into the Grants program for the San Ramon Unified School District, which funds art grants on an annual basis.
