Grateful. Eucharist— eucharistia—means thanksgiving, gratitude. At the heart of our existence, of our identity is gratitude, because we have received a transformative gift. Every human being is irreplaceable, precious, beautiful. But all of us have experienced our lives in ruins, heading for the landfill. Even as we could tell that every person is meant for something marvelous, we saw each of us instead headed for rejection and collapse. Into our stuckness we began to hear something, sometimes a whisper, sometimes a shout, of a new opportunity introduced into our lives. We heard about one of us, a man named Jesus, who was much more than us, God arriving to change our story. And as one of us, he went through all that we go through—he went through more than we endure. Our gratitude is not only for the beautiful gift of freedom, but for the extraordinary price paid for it, love and commitment and sacrifice all revealed in the suffering of Jesus. Gratitude is who we are, what defines us. Or at least, it would be if we lived with eyes open, seeing the world and the new gift breaking in, entering into the light and living in this new reality. Our first reading from the Old Testament gives us a more accurate depiction of our actual behavior. The Second Book of Chronicles, seeing us behaving like outcasts, describes God’s intervention to us: “Early and often did the Lord, the God of their fathers, send his messengers to them, for he had compassion on his people and his dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised his warnings, and scoffed at his prophets.” This means disaster for us. If you are drowning, and you ignore the lifeline thrown to you, you do not have a good outcome. Second Chronicles cites Jeremiah to identify our specific rejection of God: “Until the land has retrieved its lost sabbaths, during all the time it lies waste it shall have rest while seventy years are fulfilled.” During this past year, when we received a knock at the door, reminding us how fragile our society is, how easily our lives can fall apart, we didn’t redouble our reliance on God, instead we behaved like orphans and castaways, scrounging the scraps of self-reliance. Ungrateful. Jeremiah identifies the sabbath since through it we reaffirm our total reliance on God. Today, when our society told us that the Eucharist was ‘non-essential’, that Sunday could be collapsed to look like any other day, we agreed with them, and easily let go of what makes us who we are. Each Sunday with every Eucharist we reconnect with the blessing God has won for us, we reaffirm what our true priority is. Disconnected from the Eucharist, severed from the Sunday Mass, we collapse back into being slaves, and it turns out that the life of slaves is nasty, brutish and short. Our Gospel today gives us the conclusion: “This is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.” Today our world is attempting a global experiment: what happens if we pretend God doesn’t exist. Like teenagers not noticing that the car they drive, the house they live in, and the food they eat all comes from the generosity of their parents, our ingratitude doesn’t bode well. Don’t participate in the experiment. Step into the light, and reconnect with the truth.

Rincón Del Pastor Agradecido. Eucaristía - eucharistia - significa acción de gracias, gratitud. En el corazón de nuestra existencia, de nuestra identidad, está la gratitud, porque hemos recibido un regalo transformador. Cada ser humano es irrempazable, precioso, hermoso. Pero todos hemos experimentado nuestras vidas en ruinas, rumbo al vertedero. Incluso cuando pudimos decir que cada persona está destinada a algo maravilloso, vimos que cada uno de nosotros se dirigía al rechazo y al colapso. En nuestro estancamiento comenzamos a escuchar algo, a veces un susurro, a veces un grito, de una nueva oportunidad introducida en nuestras vidas. Escuchamos sobre uno de nosotros, un hombre llamado Jesús, que era mucho más que nosotros, Dios llegó para cambiar nuestra historia. Y como uno de nosotros, pasó por todo lo que nosotros pasamos, soporto por más de lo que nosotros soportamos. Nuestra gratitud no es solo por el hermoso regalo de la libertad, sino por el precio extraordinario pagado por ella, el amor, el compromiso y el sacrificio, todo revelado en el sufrimiento de Jesús. La gratitud es lo que somos, lo que nos define. O al menos lo sería si viviéramos con los ojos abiertos, viendo el mundo y el nuevo don irrumpiendo, entrando en la luz y viviendo en esta nueva realidad. Nuestra primera lectura del Antiguo Testamento nos da una descripción más precisa de nuestro comportamiento real. El segundo libro de Crónicas, al vernos comportarnos como marginados, describe la intervención de Dios en nosotros: `` El Señor, el Dios de sus padres, les envió temprano y con frecuencia sus mensajeros, porque se compadeció de su pueblo y de su morada. Pero se burlaron de los mensajeros de Dios, despreciaron sus advertencias y se burlaron de sus profetas." Esto significa un desastre para nosotros. Si se está ahogando e ignora la cuerda de salvamento que se le arroja, no tiene un buen resultado. Segunda de Crónicas cita a Jeremías para identificar nuestro rechazo específico de Dios: "Hasta que la tierra no haya recuperado sus sábados perdidos, durante todo el tiempo que esté desolada, descansará mientras se cumplen setenta años." Durante este último año, cuando recibimos un golpe en la puerta, recordándonos cuán frágil es nuestra sociedad, lo fácilmente que nuestras vidas pueden desmoronarse, no redoblamos nuestra confianza en Dios, sino que nos comportamos como huérfanos y náufragos, tratando de sobrevivir con autosuficiencia. Desagradecido. Jeremías identifica el sábado porque a través de él reafirmamos nuestra confianza total en Dios. Hoy, cuando nuestra sociedad nos dijo que la Eucaristía "no era esencial," que el Domingo podría colapsarse para parecerse a cualquier otro día, estuvimos de acuerdo con ellos y soltamos fácilmente lo que nos hace quienes somos. Cada Domingo con cada Eucaristía nos reconectamos con la bendición que Dios ha ganado para nosotros, reafirmamos cuál es nuestra verdadera prioridad. Desconectados de la Eucaristía, separados de la Misa Dominical, volvemos a colapsar y volvemos a ser esclavos, y resulta que la vida de los esclavos es desagradable, brutal y corta. Nuestro Evangelio de hoy nos da la conclusión: "Este es el veredicto, que la luz vino al mundo, pero la gente prefirió las tinieblas a la luz, porque sus obras eran malas." Hoy nuestro mundo está intentando un experimento global: qué sucede si pretendemos que Dios no existe. Como los adolescentes que no se dan cuenta de que el automóvil que conducen, la casa en la que viven y la comida que comen provienen de la generosidad de sus padres, nuestra ingratitud no predice nada bueno. No participes en el experimento. Sal a la luz y vuelve a conectarte con la verdad.

St. Vincent de Paul puts together a House-in-A-Box to be given to clients moving off of the streets into permanent housing. Included in the box are dishes, bowls, cups, glasses, and silverware for the Number of people in the household. We also try to include a pot, fry pan, microwave dish, baking pan, spatula, dish towel, and a set of towels for each member of the household. We sometimes include dish soap, cutting board, and personal care items we may have available. Our House in A Box program is in need of many of the necessities to establish a kitchen and household. We are in need of silverware, small pots and pans, utensils, and hand and bath towels to be able to make more House-In-A-Box boxes. The City of Yuba City has been very busy establishing permanent housing for the homeless and our House-in A-Box boxes are in high demand. If you have any of these items on hand, would you please consider donating them to a family in need. We appreciate all of the support we receive from our St. Isidore Parish family.

HTTLa Asociación de San Vicente de Paul organizan un programa de asistencia llamado Una-Casa-en-Una-Caja para ser entregadas a clientes que se mudan de las calles a una casa permanente. En la caja se incluyen platos, tazas, vasos y cubiertos suficientes para la cantidad de personas en el hogar. También tratamos de incluir una olla, una sartén, un plato para microondas, una bandeja para hornear, una espátula, un paño de cocina y un juego de toallas para cada miembro de la familia. A veces incluimos jabón para platos, tabla de cortar y artículos de cuidado personal que podamos tener disponibles. Nuestro programa Una-Casa-en-Una-Caja necesita muchas de las necesidades para establecer una cocina y un hogar. Necesitamos cubiertos, ollas y sartenes pequeños, utensilios y toallas de mano y de baño para poder hacer más cajas. La ciudad de Yuba City ha estado muy ocupada estableciendo viviendas permanentes para las personas sin hogar y hay una gran demanda pidiendo nuestras casas. The Visiting Committee for our accreditation was moved and impressed by our families and the love they have for our school, our faith formation, our care, and the support we provide each other in our school community. Lent is a Special Time in RCIA Lent is the time those seeking full reception into the Catholic Church prepare for their Sacraments at Easter Vigil. Saturday morning at the 12:00 noon Mass our Catechumens will received special prayer after the homily known as the Scrunties. The Scrutiny rites are for the purpose of self-searching and repentance in preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The Scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the Elect from the power of sin, and to protect them against temptation, and provide strength in Christ. The Scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in their hearts. Likewise, this rite is to bring out, then strengthen, all that is upright, strong, and good. Like our own Lenten journey, the Catechumens share our pursuit of holiness.

As we, the people of God, pray for our Elect, we too can pray for ourselves and our community to likewise be purified and strengthened.

La Cuaresma es un tiempo especial en RICA

La Cuaresma es el momento en que aquellos que buscan una recepción completa en la Iglesia Católica se preparan para sus sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual. Year of St. Joseph Pope Francis recalls the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To mark the occasion, the Holy Father has proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph” from 8 December 2020, to 8 December 2021.

Consecration to St. Joseph

“What does it mean for a person to be consecrated to St. Joseph? Well, it means that you acknowledge that he is your spiritual father, and you want to be like him. To show it, you entrust yourself entirely into his paternal care so that he can help you acquire his virtues and become holy. Total consecration to St. Joseph means you make a formal act of filial entrustment to your spiritual father so that he can take care of your spiritual well-being and lead you to God. The person who consecrates himself to St. Joseph wants to be as close to their spiritual father as possible, to the point of resembling him in virtue and holiness. Saint Joseph, in turn, will give those consecrated to him his undivided attention, protection, and guidance.” Fr. Donald Calloway, famously known for his book 33 Days to Morning Glory – a consecration to the Blessed Mother- has written Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father. The book includes daily mediations, studies, and prayers for St. Joseph.” FYI, starting the book on February 15 ends with consecration on the Solemnity of St. Joseph on March 19. 2021 – Año de San José

El Papa Francisco convoca a un «Año de San José» Con la Carta apostólica Patris corde (Con corazón de padre), el Pontífice recuerda el 150 aniversario de la declaración de san José como Patrono de la Iglesia Universal y, con motivo de esta ocasión, a partir del 8 de diciembre 2020 hasta el 8 de diciembre de 2021 se celebrará un año dedicado especialmente a él.

Consagración a San José “¿Qué significa estar consagrado/a a San José? Bueno, significa que reconoces que él es tu padre espiritual y quieres ser como él. Para demostrarlo, te entregas por completo a su cuidado paterno para que te ayude a adquirir sus virtudes y santificarte. La consagración total a San José significa que haces un acto formal de encomienda filial a tu padre espiritual para que pueda cuidar de tu bienestar espiritual y conducirlo a Dios. Quien se consagra a San José quiere estar lo más cerca posible de su padre espiritual, hasta el punto de parecerse a él en virtud y santidad. San José, a su vez, dará a los consagrados su atención, protección y guía indivisa”. Everyday Stewardship

Talking about discipleship and truly being a disciple are two very different things. It is easier to know what we should do than to carry out. Many saints from our tradition have had much to say about this struggle to do what they know they must do, and not do that which they know they shouldn't. It is part of being human. Without God, we have no chance to overcome this predicament. Without God, our actions can ring hollow, or often we are too immobilized to act at all. Without God, we suffer with blindness to the truth of what is important and eternal. The story in John 9 of Jesus healing the blind man is about more than a physical healing and just one man. It is about how each of us can find healing of our blindness by turning to Jesus Christ. Are you someone that has been saying, "I don't understand all this talk of discipleship and stewardship; what's the big deal?" We all have a blindness that needs to be healed, and the body of Christ needs you so that God's presence in our world can be seen in a more profound manner. The reality is that God heals the blindness of those who seek him so that, in turn, they may be vehicles by which others may see as well. This Lent, you are invited to bring your blindness to Jesus. La Corresponsabilidad Diaria Platicar del discipulado y verdaderamente ser discípulo de Cristo son dos cosas distintas. Es más fácil saber qué es lo que debemos hacer que hacerlo. Muchos santos han comentado sobre la lucha de hacer lo que deberían hacer y no hacer lo que no deberían. Es parte de la vida humana. Sin Dios, no tenemos ninguna oportunidad de vencer este dilema. Sin Dios, nuestras acciones son vacías, y muchas veces ni tenemos ganas de actuar. Sin Dios, sufrimos una ceguera a la verdad de lo que es importante y eterno. En la lectura del capítulo nueve del Evangelio de Juan, cuando Jesús cura al hombre ciego, no es simplemente una curación física, ni de un solo hombre. Se trata de cómo cada uno de nosotros podemos encontrar curación de nuestra ceguera si nos acercamos a Cristo Jesús. ¿Usted es una persona que dice, "No entiendo la importancia del discipulado y de la corresponsabilidad; ¿por qué es gran cosa?"? Todos tenemos una ceguera que se necesita curar, y el cuerpo de Cristo lo necesita a usted para que la presencia de Dios se descubra en el mundo de una manera más profunda. La realidad es que Dios cura la ceguera de los que lo buscan para que ellos sean instrumentos de él. Esta Cuaresma, usted está invitado a entregarle su ceguera a Jesús.
