10.9 Organisational Chart

10.10 Student Feedback Mechanism on institutional Governance/Faculty performance.

The Academic programme office of SOT organises the course and faculty feedback from students

on a 5 Point scale at the end of every semester. The compiled data after reviewed by the

Academic Chair is submitted to the Director. The Director then conveys the feedback to the

respective faculty members. It is expected that the faculty members undertake corrective actions

on the feedback wherever required and communicate the same to the Director.

SOT has a system wherein the Director and the Academic Programme Chair meet the students

formally at least once every quarter to obtain their views on Institutional Governance, Academic

& non-academic (including administration) activities. In addition to this there is no limit on

interacting with the students formally as well as informally as and when the need arises.

The school also has a system of conducting Open House sessions. The comments received in all

such interactions are shared by the Director with the faculty colleagues and staff in a separate

formal meeting for taking necessary actions on the same. Wherever required the inputs are also

shared with the university academic and administrative authorities for necessary communication

and actions.

10.11 Grievance redressal mechanism for Faculty and Staff and students.

A: Students:

For any kind of academic grievance, the students are supposed to bring the same to the

notice of the concerned course leader first. (In certain circumstances they can also approach

the Academic Chair/Director directly). If required the course leader/student can refer/appeal

the matter to the Academic Chair. If the matter remains unresolved at the Academic Chair

level, then it is referred to the Director. The Director shall take an appropriate decision as

per School/University norms.

The student has the right to appeal to the University authorities and the University

authorities’ decision shall be final and binding to all.

For any kind of nonacademic grievance, the students are supposed to bring the same to the

notice of the Academic Programme Office first. If required the Programme Office/student

can refer/appeal the matter to the Director. The Director shall take an appropriate decision

as per School/University norms.

Even in this case also the student has the right to appeal to the University authorities and the

University authorities’ decision shall be final and binding to all.

10.13 Professional Society Memberships and Forums

The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Institute and Student Chapters were

inaugurated at 25th September, 2012 at School of Technology, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum

University. The ISTE, registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, is a national,

professional, nonprofit society whose major objective is to assist and contribute in the production

and development of top quality professional engineers and technicians needed by the industries

and other organizations. ISTE is a premier national society for teachers and students of the

technical education system with 45000 faculty members and more than a lakh student members.

The inauguration was graced upon by Dr. Murugesan, President, Indian Society for Technical

Education, New Delhi. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a lecture on “Growth of

Indian Engineering Sector – A Review” by the honourable chief guest.

On behalf of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University a TWO WEEK ISTE MAIN WORKSHOP

ON CONTROL SYSTEMS was organized during 2-12 December 2014. The Workshop was an

integrated part of an initiative taken by IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur to work with Engineering

Colleges of India to enhance the teaching skills of faculty colleagues in core Engineering and

Science subjects under Train Ten Thousand Teachers programme. Participating teachers (7

Participants) attended live lectures at our university remote center (Remote Centre ID – 1023) and

also attended tutorial and lab sessions conducted in the same center. The lecture transmission and

live interaction took place in distance mode using AVIEW technology through internet at the

selected remote centers across the country. Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University is one of the

Remote Centers (Remote Center ID – 1023). This initiative was a part of the 'National Mission on

Education through ICT,' which is supported by MHRD.

Mechanical engineering branch of School Of Technology has stared forum named Society of

Automotive Engineers, INDIA i.e. SAEINDIA very enthusiastically, The SAE INDIA PDPU

Collegiate Club was formed in the year 2013 with an aim to keep all its members updated with

the fundamental and contemporary technologies of the automobile industry. Since its inception it

has nurtured its members through its various activities like Automobile quiz, Paper and poster

presentation and workshops.

SAEINDIA Western Section (SAEIWS) -Total numbers of SAE members are 157 from PDPU

including other than mechanical branches.

The “MECHINERZO”, a forum for the students and faculties of the Mechanical & Industrial

Engineering department established to organize and launch various technical programs/ activities

to sharpen their professional and academics skills, and recognize personal lives, while engaging in

activities with a societal relevance. By default, all Mechanical & Industrial students are members

of it. Inauguration was done in the 1st week of February, 2012 in the auditorium.

Tark– Tark (तरक ) is a student club of the department of Industrial Engineering. Industrial

Engineers’ Club was started to provide a link between the students and the industry. The main

aim of this club is to prepare the students for the challenges and requirements put forward by the

recruiters. The club aims to provide a platform for the students to explore their ideas. The club

also aims to acquaint the students with a practical approach beyond the scope of the syllabus. This

club organize workshops, seminars, guest lectures, industrial visits, case studies, etc to fulfill its

purpose. The clubs shall, in the near future, also bring chapters from national and international

forums for the benefit of the students. Also, activities shall be undertaken in association with

other clubs.

American Society for Quality (ASQ) – With the growing importance of Quality Management in

industry in today’s world, the department has taken an initiative to start a student chapter of the

American Society for Quality (ASQ) at PDPU. The student chapter invites speakers from industry

and organizes workshops and seminars related to Quality Management. A certification scheme

has also been implemented by ASQ for PDPU students wherein students completing a series of

workshops will be awarded a certificate by the American Society for Quality. ASQ, formerly

known as the American Society for Quality and the American Society for Quality Control

(ASQC), is knowledge- based global community of quality professionals, with nearly 80,000

members dedicated to the promotion and advancement of quality tools, principles, and practices

in their workplaces and in their communities.

Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, IIChE PDPU student chapter was established in the

year 2013, with the sole aim of empowering the knowledge of upcoming Chemical Engineers and

to acquaint them about various developments in Chemical Process industry. The PDPU, IIChE

student chapter actively arranges expert lectures, seminars, workshops, quizzes, group

discussions, plant visit etc. at regular intervals, so that the students excel, when they come out of

their academic confines.

The Electrical Students and Professional Association (ESPA-PDPU) was inaugurated on

February 16, 2012 with the aim to develop and inculcate creativity, innovative solutions and

leadership traits among the electrical students of the university. ESPA aims to reduce the gap

between making students employable and deployable. The IEEE-PDPU Chapter is also under

ESPA. IEEE Student Chapter, PDPU was started in the year 2011. The core purpose of the IEEE

Student Branch is to serve professionals involved in all aspects of the electrical, electronic and

computing fields and related areas of science and technology that underline modern civilization.

The goal of the IEEE student chapter programs is to ensure the growth of skill and knowledge in

mainly the energy-related technical professions and to foster individual commitment to continuing

education among members. Various workshops and IEEE events are conducted under the

umbrella of ESPA.

10.14 Professional Activities

Dept. of Civil Enginering, School of Technology, PDPU organized Engineers Day event on 15th

September, 2014. This was to commemorate the 154th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. PDPU celebrates "Engineers Day" every year to pay tribute to this

great visonary. In year 2014, PDPU added one more dimension to the celebration by felicitating

exemplary and path breaking leadership in the field of technology & engineering. The eminent

professionals / engineers felicitated were Dr. Karsan Bhai Patel, Shri Anil Bakeri, Shri Rajendra

Shah, Shri S.B. Dangayach, Dr. K. K. Thakkar, Shri Jaimin Vasa and Shri Samir Patel.

PDPU has 3 auditoriums at its campus; 2 with a seating capacity of 130 people and 1 with

a seating capacity of around 600 persons at a time. These auditoriums are mostly used for

joint classes, Guest lectures, conferences, seminars, workshops and for special occasions.

PDPU has a central Cafeteria at its campus for its students where 500 students can dine at one

instant. The cafeteria is open 24 hrs. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner is served at the canteen. It has

also a separate area for its Staff & Faculty and a separate area for special guests at the Cafeteria.

Adjacent to the Cafeteria it has various Ice-cream and Pizza parlours for the students at its

campus.

10.16 Boys and Girls Hostel : Please refer Annexure – ‘A’ for photograph

SOT-PDPU has residential facilities both for Boys and Girls. The boy’s hostel consists of 280 rooms

of double occupancy and the Girl’s hostel consists of 88 rooms of triple occupancy.

Rooms in the residence halls vary in shape and size. All are well furnished; some furniture is

movable and some furniture is built in. All of the rooms come fully furnished with beds, desks,

chairs. Each residence hall is provided with ample lounges for kicking back, studying for the next

exam, or just relaxing with each other. On ground floor of each hostel has television facility where

students can watch it in their leisure time.

Access into the Hostel areas is controlled 24 hours Securities. For Girls rooms and their privacy are

been taken care of specially.

PDPU provides excellent medical facility for Students, Faculty and Staff members. It offers the latest

10.18 Counseling / Mentoring

Career Counseling:

SOT has established a Placement & Industry Relations office which is chaired by the faculty

members on rotation basis. The office also has a permanent Placement Officer. The role of

this office is to provide career counseling, organising on and off campus placements and

mentoring them towards their career which includes jobs and entrepreneurship.

For academic counseling and mentoring the school has a system where in the beginning of

each trimester faculty members are accessible to students so that the students can discuss with

them about their choice of electives, etc.

Medical Facilities:

The University medical doctor is available round the clock.

Student Insurance:

All the students of the school are covered under the medical insurance of Rs.2 lakhs per

student with ICICI Lombard with additional extent coverage of Rs.50, 000 (inclusive of

parent’s coverage). All the students under this policy have the facility of using the medical

services of Apollo Hospital and Hi-tech Hospital at Gandhinagar which is in the vicinity of

the school / University.

10.X. Women’s Cell

Pursuant to the Directives of ‘The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention,

Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 ("Act"), notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice which has

come into effect from 23 April 2013, Women’s Cell has been established under the aegis of Director

General, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar to uphold the dignity of women at

work.

The Sexual Harassment Act has been enacted with the objective of providing women protection

against sexual harassment at the workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of

sexual harassment.

The University endeavors to provide safe environment for staff and students free from gender

discrimination and sexual harassment of all forms of sexual intimidation and exploitation. The

University makes its staff and students aware about the proper conduct to be followed at the campus

and the penal actions for its implications. All complaints are thoroughly investigated and appropriate

action taken promptly as per the guidelines.

1) OBJECTIVES OF WOMEN’S CELL

1. To create awareness amongst students about the problems faced by women of all strata due to

gender issues.

2. To create an environment of gender justice where men and women work together with a sense

of personal security and dignity.

3. To create awareness amongst students about the issues related to the youth, girls in particular.

4. To disseminate knowledge about rights and laws related to women.

5. To create a sense of responsibility in the students and have healthy study and work culture in all

schools of the University.

6. To enhance the self- esteem and self- confidence of girl students, women faculty and staff in the

University.

7. To provide opportunities to girl students and women employees to participate in and interact at

conferences etc. related to gender issue.

was delivered by Dr Vishvesh J Badheka, in addition to the course material. Course

for commercialization of narrow gap technology

4. Best oral presentation award out of 62 presented papers at National Welding

Seminar, held at Mumbai, in Feb 2009. Title of the paper “Microstructral

Investigation of weld metal in low carbon steel welded by NG-GMAW”

5. Panthaki Memorial Award 2010 for best research paper on Non ferrous material,

at National Welding Seminar held at Vizag, Dec 2010. Title of the paper

“Development of welding procedures for joining of Al-Mg-Si alloy and Al-Mg alloy

for marine application.

6. Panthaki Memorial Award-2013 during IIW International Welding Congress

held at New Delhi during 9-11 April 14, for the best paper on Welding of Non

Ferrous Metals. Title of the paper is “Hybrid Friction Stir Welding of pure Copper

Material” paper presented by Dr Badheka at National Welding Seminar 2013,
