BATON ROUGE, La. — Denver T. Loupe, a former LSU AgCenter vice chancellor who was a tireless advocate for Louisiana youth, has been posthumously inducted into the National 4-H Hall

of Fame.Loupe was one of 16

inductees who were honored at a ceremony Oct. 14, 2021, in Washington, D.C. His daughter, Stephenie Teichman, accepted the award.

“We are very proud to have our father recognized as a 2020 National 4-H Hall of Fame laureate,” Teichman said. “He believed the success of 4-H

and he would be proud of the volunteers who continue supporting the Louisiana program. We are especially delighted that he has been honored for exhibiting the values of 4-H, which he embodied throughout his life.”

Loupe, who died in 2019 at the age of 92, grew up on a sugarcane farm in Ascension Parish. He participated in the local 4-H club and, as a teenager, helped sell war bonds during World War II.

Loupe went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, attend LSU and work as a high school teacher. Eventually, he landed a

HALLOWEEN MUMMY SAUSAGESSubmitted by Richard’s Cajun Foods

Ingredients:4 ounces puff pastry

1 16 ounce package of Richard’s Pork Smoked Sausage

1 egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water

1 tablespoon ketchup or mustard

Instructions:On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the pastry into a thin

rectangle, about 11-inches long and about 5 to 6 inches wide. Using a

pizza cutter, cut thin, ¼ inch wide strips down the longer side of the

pastry. Cut each Richard’s Smoked Pork Sausage link in half, leaving

6 sausages total that are about 3 inches long. Using 2 strips per

sausage, dip the ends of the pastry into the egg wash and wrap them

around each sausage, leaving a small slit near the top of each sausage

for the “eyes.” Place on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes

while the oven preheats to 400 degrees F. Remove from the fridge

and gently brush with egg wash. Bake until golden brown, about 20

minutes. Put the ketchup or mustard into a bowl. Using a toothpick,

draw eyes onto the mummy.

Check your mailboxes, Louisiana producers – the 2021 Hemp Acreage and Production Survey is in the mail. The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is surveying producers to collect information on the total planted and harvested area, yield, production, and value of hemp in the United States. Data is collected for hemp grown in the open and hemp grown under protection.

This survey will set the benchmark for hemp acreage and production to assist regulatory agencies, producers, state governments, processors, and other key industry entities. Your response is important!

Online response is fast and secure. You may complete your form at agcounts.usda.gov. All you need is your unique survey code located on the front of

the questionnaire to complete your survey online. You may also complete and return your survey by mail using the return envelope provided.

If you received the survey and you are not an active hemp producer, answering a few simple questions at the beginning of this survey will ensure that you will not receive any further NASS communications about hemp.
