Colour rendering
In order to evaluate the quality of light sources objec�vely, the interna�onally recognised colour rendering index a (English C I) was defined. The test light source is compared with a reference light source using 15 selected test colours. The evalua�on bandwidth is between a maximum of plus 100 and minus 60. The more accurately the test light source reproduces the test colour, the higher or be�er the colour rendering value.
The mean value of the first 8 test colours gives the colour rendering index a The average a value is divided into: moderately good colour rendering for a 70-80, e.g. for street ligh�ng; good colour rendering for a 80-90, e.g. for ligh�ng workplaces, and very good colour rendering for a 90-100, e.g. for museums and high-quality retail applica�ons.In order to further specify the quality of the colour rendering, a typical a value of a (type) 85, for example, within a bandwidth of a ≥ 80 to 90, can also be specified.
The results for the test colours 9 – 15 give detailed informa�on about the colour rendering of saturated colours ( 9 – 12), skin colour ( 13), leaf green ( 14) and Asian skin colour ( 15)

Colour point shi�
LEDs are subject to colour point shi� over the en�re usable service life. XAL only uses LEDs for its luminaires, which have a minimal colour point shi� in the test reports. LEDs with values of only 0.5 SDCM a�er 6000 h at 85
°C correspond to the highest quality (see graph 1 for SAMSUNG and graph 2 for OS AM). The European Premium LightPro requirement and the American Energy Star requirement recommend the use of LEDs with a maximum colour point shi� of ≤7 SDCM a�er 6,000 h. To keep the colour point shi� as low as possible over the en�re service life of 50,000 h, requires a great deal of invested exper�se in thermal management. A power supply, which is within the specifica�on of the LED, contributes just as much to a small shi� in colour point as a good heat sink.
Opera�ng temperatures can thus be kept around 65 °C and the colour point shi� can be limited to 1 SDCM a�er 10,000 h. The colour homogeneity at the end of the life�me (final) is composed of the ini�al value (ini�al) of the colour point binning and the colour point shi�.

Clear white and vibrant colours are equally suitable for department stores, tex�les and packaged food stuffs.The CRI 90 variant specifically enhances the reproduc�on of all saturated col ours and gives products a more vivid appearance.
