Messaġġ mill-Ministru għall-Edukazzjoni u x-Xogħol

Il-kurżità u r-rieda li titgħallem huma żewġ istinti li nitwieldu bihom. Ħafna drabi dawn narawhom fit-tfal żgħar. Il-ġenituri jafu mhux ħażin dwar dan. Il-fażi tal-mistoqsijiet li qatt ma tispiċċa fost it-tfal hija r-realtà fl-ispirtu tal-bniedem li jrid

jitgħallem u jevolvi fit-tagħrif tiegħu. Se nkun fost l-ewwel li nammetti li l-iskejjel, fis-sens tradizzjonali, jimminaw xi ftit dan l-ispirtu. Il-kurrikuli stretti spiss jegħlbu din il-kurżità. Dan huwa r-riżultat tal-proċess industrijali tal-edukazzjoni iżda matul dawn l-aħħar snin komplejna ntejbu l-proċess tal-kurżità u r-rieda fl-individwu li jitgħallem affarijiet ġodda. F’din l-era li ngħixu fiha, it-tagħlim ma jiqafx ġaladarba tispiċċa mill-iskola obbligatorja jew l-Università iżda huwa proċess li jibqa’ għaddej. Dan il-fuljett ma jinkludix informazzjoni u suġġetti biss iżda joffri ħafna opportunitajiet biex titgħallem lingwa ġdida jew ħila ġdida, biex tikber bħala persuna u biex tiftaħ orizzonti ġodda, tesplora u tiskopri. Fl-aħħar nett, ma rridu qatt nitilfu fina nfusna l-faxxinu u l-fażi tal-iskopertà ta’ meta konna tfal. Nispera li tista’ ssib il-vjaġġ tiegħek f’dan il-ktieb u nawguralek fl-esperjenza edukattiva tiegħek.

Message from the Minister for Education and Employment

Curiosity and willingness to learn are instincts we are born with. You see it, often, in young children. Parents know about this quite well. The never-ending questions phase of a child usually drives a parent up the wall but it is the reality

of the human spirit to learn and evolve that drives this need. I will be the first to admit that schools, in the traditional sense, kill a bit of that spirit. Curiosity is often downgraded and overshadowed by strict curricula. This is the result of the industrial process of education, but over the past years I do think that we have improved in nurturing the process of an individual’s curiosity and willingness to learn new things. We no longer live in an age where you finish learning once you leave school or University, but it’s a never-ending process. This booklet is not about information and subjects only, but about opportunities. Opportunities to learn a new language or a new skill, and to grow as a person, and new horizons to explore and discover. Ultimately, we should never lose the fascination and discovery of the four-year-old child in us. I hope you are able to find your fascination in this booklet and all the best in your educational journey.

KIF TAPPLIKA U TĦALLAS

Id-Direttorat għar-Riċerka, Tagħlim Tul il-Ħajja u Innovazzjoni

Id-Direttorat għar-Riċerka, Tagħlim Tul il-Ħajja u Innovazzjoni fi ħdan il-Ministeru għall-Edukazzjoni u x-Xogħol jemmen li t-tagħlim m’għandu jieqaf qatt. Kemm l-individwi kif ukoll il-komunitajiet għandhom jakkwistaw ħiliet li huma relevanti

għall-ħtiġijiet, ix-xogħol u l-ħajja tagħhom.

Id-Direttorat joffri gwida għat-tagħlim tul il-ħajja u jorganizza korsijiet għat-tagħlim tal-adulti b’mod aktar personalizzat u innovattiv. L-għan ewlieni hu li nassiguraw li t-tagħlim li noffru jkun ta’ benefiċċju għal numru ta’ setturi: individwi, komunitajiet, min iħaddem u s-soċjetà b’mod ġenerali.

Bħala l-Koordinatur Nazzjonali tal-Aġenda Ewropea għat-Tagħlim tal-Adulti, id-Direttorat qed itejjeb il-kwalità ta’ dan l-istess tagħlim f’Malta. Qegħdin naħdmu wkoll biex ikollna koordinazzjoni aħjar fis-settur u biex inżidu l-parteċipazzjoni tal-adulti f’kull tip ta’ edukazzjoni (formali, informali u mhux formali). Nixtiequ li l-parteċipanti mhux biss jakkwistaw ħiliet għall-iżvilupp personali tagħhom iżda jkunu wkoll ċittadini iktar attivi u jakkwistaw ħiliet ġodda għax-xogħol tagħhom.

Id-Direttorat qed joffri varjetà ta’ korsijiet bejn Ottubru 2017 u Mejju 2018. F’dan il-ktejjeb tista’ ssib tagħrif dwar il-ġranet, il-ħinijiet u ċ-Ċentri tat-tagħlim. Ħafna mill-korsijiet isiru filgħaxija għalkemm xi korsijiet jingħataw ukoll matul il-jum.

Jekk tagħżel dan il-metodu ta’ applikazzjoni, tista’ tħallas b’ċekk (indirizzat lis-Segretarju Permanenti, Ministeru tal-Edukazzjoni) jew permezz ta’ karta ta’ kreditu jew debitu (meta tapplika fid-Direttorat f’Malta). Flus kontanti ma jiġux aċċettati għajr fl-uffiċini tas-servizz.gov u applikazzjonijiet li jintbagħtu bil-posta ma jkunux jistgħu jiġu proċessati.

Bejn it-12 ta’ Lulju u l-4 ta’ Awwissu se noffru wkoll servizz ta’ għajnuna għal min għandu bżonn gwida fl-għażla tal-korsijiet u l-livelli.

Jekk jogħġbok aqra sew dawn it-Termini u Kundizzjonijiet:

• Id-drittijiet tal-ħlas tar-reġistrazzjoni (fejn applikabbli) huma indikati fit-taqsimiet rispettivi ta’ kull grupp ta’ korsijiet.

• Ġeneralment, l-ammont minimu biex tkun tista’ tingħaqad klassi hu ta’ 10 applikanti. Madankollu, id-Direttur iżomm id-dritt li dan in-numru jinbidel f’każ ta’ xi klassi ta’ suġġett partikolari minħabba l-importanza tal-istess suġġett.

• Klassijiet li matul is-sena jispiċċaw bi ftit parteċipanti jistgħu jingħaqdu ma’ klassijiet oħra sabiex dan is-servizz jibqa’ sostenibbli.

• L-applikazzjonijiet jintlaqgħu skont l-ordni ta’ kif jidħlu fis-sistema elettronika. Għaldaqstant, min japplika u jħallas onlajn ikollu vantaġġ fuq dawk li jmorru l-uffiċċju ċentrali.

• Persuni minn pajjiżi barranin għandu jkollhom id-dokumentazzjoni kollha meħtieġa. Ma tistax issir talba għall-visa jew għal residenza fit-tul minħabba applikazzjoni għal xi kors f’dan il-ktejjeb.

Il-ħlas għall-applikanti hu kif ġej:

Applikanti li huma:

(a) ċittadini ta’ Malta; jew

(b) ċittadini ta’ Stati Membri oħra tal-Unjoni Ewropea li għandhom jedd għal trattament ugwali daqs ċittadini Maltin fi kwistjonijiet ta’ impjiegi bis-saħħa tal-leġislazzjoni tal-UE u d-dispożizzjonijiet ta’ trattati dwar il-moviment ħieles tal-ħaddiema; jew

(ċ) ċittadini ta’ kwalunkwe pajjiż ieħor li għandhom jedd għal trattament ugwali daqs ċittadini Maltin fi kwistjonijiet ta’ impjiegi bis-saħħa tal-leġislazzjoni tal-UE u d-dispożizzjonijiet ta’ trattati dwar il-moviment ħieles tal-ħaddiema, liema leġislazzjoni u dispożizzjonijiet ikunu japplikaw għal dak il-pajjiż partikolari; jew

(d) kwalunkwe persuni oħra li, minħabba r-relazzjonijiet familjari tagħhom ma’ persuni msemmija f’(a), (b) jew (ċ), għandhom jedd għal trattament ugwali daqs ċittadini Maltin fi kwistjonijiet ta’ impjiegi, skont kif provdut fil-leġislazzjoni tal-UE u d-dispożizzjonijiet imsemmija hawn fuq; jew

(e) ċittadini ta’ pajjiżi terzi li jkunu ngħataw status ta’ residenti li joqogħdu għal żmien twil f’Malta skont Regolament 4 tar-Regolamenti tal-2006 dwar ‘Status ta’ Residenti li joqogħdu għal Żmien Twil (Ċittadini ta’ Pajjiżi Terzi)’, jew li jkunu ngħataw permess ta’ residenza skont regolament 18 (3) tal-istess Regolamenti, flimkien mal-membri tal-familja ta’ ċittadini ta’ pajjiżi terzi li jkunu ngħataw permess ta’ residenza skont ir-Regolamenti tal-2007 dwar ir-Riunifikazzjoni tal-Familji.

Applikanti li ma jaqgħux taħt waħda mill-kategoriji t’hawn fuq iħallsu miżata li hi d-doppju ta’ kif indikat. Eżempju: għall-Korsijiet Qosra, il-ħlas hu ta’ €37.26.

L-irċevuta tal-ħlas għandha tiġi pprintjata u tinżamm mill-applikanti sabiex tkun tista’ tintwera lill-edukaturi fl-ewwel jum tal-attendenza ta’ kull kors. Dawk mingħajr l-irċevuta ma jitħallewx jibdew il-kors.

Ma jistax isir tibdil fir-reġistrazzjoni tal-korsijiet wara li jsir il-ħlas, ħlief fil-każ li l-kors ma jkunx se jsir.

Huma eżentati mill-ħlas:

• l-adulti li jikkwalifikaw taħt (a), (b), (ċ), (d) u (e) fit-taqsima ‘Ħlas’ u li japplikaw għall-korsijiet fil-Livell Inroduttorju fil-litteriżmu (Malti u Ingliż), u n-numeriżmu (Somom).

• dawk li għandhom il-Kartanzjan u se japplikaw għall-ewwel kors. Jekk japplikaw għal iktar minn kors wieħed iridu jħallsu għal kull kors ieħor li japplikaw għalih matul is-sena 2017-2018.

Persuni li minħabba raġunijiet soċjali jiddikjaraw li mhumiex f’pożizzjoni li jħallsu l-miżata. Dawn għandhom japplikaw personalment u mhux bl-internet peress li jkunu jridu jimlew u jiffirmaw formola apposta li tkun verifikata u approvata mid-Direttur wara konsultazzjoni mad-Dipartiment tas-Sigurtà Soċjali.

Persuna li taħseb li hi intitolata għall-eżenzjoni mill-ħlas teħtieġ permess minn Bord apposta fi ħdan il-Ministeru għall-Edukazzjoni u x-Xogħol. L-eżenzjoni għandha tinġieb qabel jibda l-kors, inkella l-ħlas ikollu jsir xorta waħda. Jekk l-eżenzjoni tasal wara li jsir il-ħlas, il-persuna tkun intitolata għal rifużjoni tal-ħlas. Il-persuna għandha tapplika għall-eżenzjoni hi stess.

Għall-ebda raġuni ma jingħata lura l-ħlas tar-reġistrazzjoni ħlief jekk isir xi tibdil min-naħa tad-Direttorat. Kors jista’ ma jsirx jew jitwaqqaf skont id-diskrezzjoni tad-Direttur. F’dan il-każ l-applikanti jingħataw il-ħlas lura pro-rata, sakemm l-applikanti ma jkunux huma stess il-kawża tal-waqfien tal-kors.

L-applikanti jridu jkunu għalqu sittax-il sena, sakemm ma jkunx indikat mod ieħor f’ċerti Ċentri jew taqsimiet speċifiċi.

Ħafna mill-korsijiet jibdew fil-bidu ta’ Ottubru u jintemmu fl-aħħar ta’ Mejju, u normalment idumu madwar 32 ġimgħa. Korsijiet Qosra jdumu sa massimu ta’ 14-il ġimgħa. Dettalji dwar korsijiet speċifiċi huma indikati fl-iskedi f’dan il-ktejjeb.

Il-btajjel skolastiċi huma f’dawn il-ġranet:

1-3 ta’ Novembru

25-31 ta’ Diċembru

1-6 ta’ Jannar

12-13ta’ Frar

28 ta’ Marzu – 4 ta’ April



LIVELLI, ĊERTIFIKATI U KWALIFIKI

L-eżamijiet isiru fl-aħħar ġimgħa ta’ Mejju u fl-ewwel ġimagħtejn ta’ Ġunju.

F’każ li jkun hemm attività fi skola wara l-ħin normali, il-lezzjonijiet jistgħu ma jsirux.

Il-korsijiet kollha jistgħu jiġu posposti jew ikkanċellati skont id-diskrezzjoni tad-Direttur.

Hu importanti li l-istudenti jagħżlu l-korsijiet u l-livelli addattati għalihom. Huwa rrakkomandat li l-parteċipanti japplikaw għal livell ogħla milli jkunu ġa kisbu fl-istess suġġett jekk tal-inqas ikunu ġabu 75% fl-assessjar finali jew f’test preliminari.

Kull ċertifikat ta’ attendenza jinħareġ mid-Direttorat jekk kemm-il darba l-parteċipanti jkunu attendew għal tal-inqas 80% tal-kors. F’dawk il-korsijiet li huma akkreditati u/jew għandhom l-assessjar formali, il-parteċipanti wkoll iridu jkunu attendew għal tal-inqas 80% tal-kors biex ikunu eliġibbli li joqogħdu għal dan l-assessjar.

Id-Direttorat joffri bosta korsijiet, fosthom:

Livell Introduttorju

Dawn huma korsijiet addattati għal min għandu diffikultajiet fil-qari u/jew fil-kitba, fil-kompjuter u fil-matematika. Dawn il-korsijiet isiru primarjament bil-Malti.

Livelli 1 u 2 fil-Qafas Malti tal-Kwalifiki(Malta Qualifications Framework - MQF)

Dawk il-korsijiet indikati bħala MQF huma approvati u akkreditati mill-Kummissjoni Nazzjonali għal Edukazzjoni Avvanzata u Ogħla.

Livell MQF 1 jindika li dan hu kors bażiku li jintroduċi s-suġġett. Fil-livell MQF2l-istudent ikompli jibni fuq il-kompetenzi f’dak is-suġġett.

Il-proċess ta’ akkreditazzjoni għadu għaddej f’diversi korsijiet. Il-korsjiet mhuxneċessarjament jilħqu jiġu kollha validati mill-Kummissjoni Nazzjonali għalEdukazzjoni Avvanzata u Ogħla tul din is-sena. Madankollu qed jiġu ppreżentatil-livelli sabiex ikun indikat minn qabel x’livell hu mistenni jintlaħaq f’dawnil-korsijiet.

MATSEC

Dawn il-korsijiet iwasslu għal Ċertifikat tal-Edukazzjoni Sekondarja (ĊES), magħruf ukoll bħala O’ level, livell Intermedju u livell Avvanzat. Id-Direttorat joffri korsijiet ta’ reviżjoni għall-MATSEC. Hu mistenni li l-istudenti li japplikaw għal dan it-tip ta’ kors diġà jkollhom it-taħriġ meħtieġ fis-suġġett.

Ċertifikazzjoni tas-City and Guilds

Open Class

Dawn il-korsijiet huma għal dawk l-istudenti li jkunu spiċċaw l-ewwel livell jew liilhom jitgħallmu s-suġġett għal bosta snin. B’hekk qed noffru opportunità biexdawn l-istudenti jkomplu bit-tagħlim u l-prattika f’diversi oqsma.

Iċ-ċertifikati jintalbu mill-Uffiċċji tad-Direttorat sa żmien sena minn tmiem il-kors.



KIF TWASSAL ILMENT

TAJJEB TKUN TAF LI:

FAĊILITAJIET Il-parteċipanti għandhom jieħdu ħsieb il-klassijiet, il-laboratorji u faċilitajiet oħra għaddispożizzjoni tagħhom fiċ-Ċentri.

Il-parteċipanti huma mfakkra li mhux permess tipjip f’dawn iċ-Ċentri. Iċ-Ċentri għandhom dejjem jinżammu ndaf.

Id-Direttorat mhux responsabbli mill-manutenzjoni ta’ Ċentri/skejjel li ma jaqgħux direttament fi ħdanu.

Ma’ kull Ċentru ta’ Tagħlim għall-Adulti hemm assenjat Koordinatur. Min jinnota xi nuqqas u jixtieq jagħmel ilment jew jagħti suġġeriment, dan jista’ jsir lill-Koordinatur jew permezz tal-indirizz elettroniku: [email protected]

• Il-korsijiet li jwasslu għal-livell taċ-ĊES, Intermedju jew Avvanzat huma reviżjoni tas-sillabu u għalhekk l-edukaturi m’għandhomx ikunu mistennija li f’sena jwettqu s-sillabu sħiħ li normalment jieħu s-snin waqt l-iskola obbligatorja jew dik postsekondarja.

• Ladarba r-reġistrazzjoni tkun aċċettata, l-applikanti jeħtieġu jimxu mar-regolamenti li joħroġ id-Direttorat.

• Kull imġiba ħażina tista’ twassal biex persuna ma titħalliex tkompli tattendi l-kors mingħajr id-dritt li tingħata lura l-ħlas tar-reġistrazzjoni.

• Kull persuna li tinqabad li ma ħallsitx għall-kors, titkeċċa minnufih mingħajr id-dritt li tkompli l-kors anki jekk tkun lesta tħallas wara li tinqabad.

• Id-Direttorat ma jistax jassumi responsabbiltà jekk xi edukaturi jieqfu milli jkomplu jagħtu s-servizzi tagħhom imma jagħmel minn kollox biex jinstab sostitut kemm-il darba dan ikun possibbli.

• L-applikanti jistgħu japplikaw għal kors wieħed biss fl-istess suġġett.

• Sakemm mhux indikat, il-parteċipanti huma mfakkra li l-lezzjonijiet jingħataw bil-Malti jew bl-Ingliż.

• L-għażla tal-edukaturi ssir mid-Direttorat u l-applikanti huma mgħarrfa li japplikaw għas-suġġett u mhux biex ikunu f’xi klassi ta’ xi edukatur.

• L-edukaturi jistgħu jitolbu l-kuntatt personali tiegħek, bħal numru tal-mowbajl, sabiex ikunu jistgħu jgħarrfuk mill-ewwel f’każ ta’ posponiment ta’ lezzjoni minħabba xi emerġenza.

• Waqt li jsir kull sforz biex jingħata tagħrif preċiż dwar kull kors, id-Direttorat mhux responsabbli għal xi żball jew nuqqas ta’ informazzjoni.

• Ħafna korsijiet li jwasslu għal eżami uffiċjali bħal SEC, MATSEC u City & Guilds jiġu fi tmiemhom mad-data tal-eżami, tiġi meta tiġi.

• Jistgħu jinqalgħu każijiet partikolari mhux imsemmija f’dan il-ktejjeb u d-Direttur iżomm id-dritt li jieħu d-deċiżjoni li jidhirlu tkun xierqa fiċ-ċirkostanzi.

• Id-Direttorat iżomm id-dritt li jbiddel il-ħinijiet u l-ġranet skont in-numru ta’ applikanti.

• Il-kors Living and Working in Malta – Dawk li għandhom nazzjonalità barranija u jixtiequ jirreġistraw għal dan il-kors, bħala rekwiżit iridu jkunu temmew b’suċċess il-korsijiet Maltese as a Foreign Language MQF1 u Maltese as a Foreign Language MQF2. Dan għaliex iċ-ċertifikat tal-kors huwa validu sa sena u sa dan iż-żmien ilparteċipanti jridu jkunu laħqu tal-inqas it-Tieni Livell tal-MQF fil-lingwa Maltija.

• Ir-riżorsi u l-għodod meħtieġa fil-proċess tat-tagħlim iridu jiġu pprovduti mill-parteċipanti.

APPLICATION PROCEDUREAND PAYMENT

The Directorate for Research,Lifelong Learning and Innovation

The Directorate for Research, Lifelong Learning and Innovation within the Ministry for Education and Employment is led by a vision that learning should be a lifelong journey for everyone. Individuals and communities need to acquire skills which

are relevant to their lives, their needs and their work.

The Directorate offers policy guidance on lifelong learning and organises adult learning courses through more personalised and innovative approaches to education. It aims to ensure that there are learning benefits for numerous different sectors: individuals, communities, employers and society at large.

As the National Coordinator for the European Agenda for Adult Learning, the Directorate is improving the quality of adult teaching and learning in Malta. We are striving for better coordination in the sector so as to increase participation in adult learning of all kinds (formal, non-formal and informal learning), whether for the acquisition of work skills, for active citizenship, or for personal development and fulfilment.

The Directorate within the Ministry for Education and Employment is offering a variety of courses that will be held between October 2017 and May 2018.

In this booklet, you will find helpful information about the Education Centres and the relevant courses on offer, as well as the dates and times when each course will take place. Most of the lessons will be held in the evening, although some are also held during the day.

Copies of this booklet can be obtained from Local Council offices or from the Directorate for Research, Lifelong Learning and Innovation, Ministry for Education and Employment, Great Siege Road, Floriana VLT 2000, Malta. It can also be obtained from the Visual and Performing Arts School, Soil Street, Xewkija, Gozo.

Please read this section before filling in your application.

Applications must be received between 12 July and 4 August 2017, either:

Log on to the website: www.lifelonglearning.gov.mt

Click on ‘COURSES’, choose the subject you would like to apply for and click on ‘APPLY’ Fill in the required details. Then click on the icons ‘ACCEPT’ and ‘SUBMIT’.

Next, you will be asked to pay (if applicable) using your Debit Card or Credit Card.

If you do not have internet at home, you can enquire at Local Councils that offer this service. Online applications are preferable since they are processed immediately.

In person

The Directorate for Research, Lifelong Learning and Innovation will receive applicationsbetween 12 July and 4 August from 8.30am till noon:

• at the Ministry for Education and Employment, Great Siege Road, Floriana (tel: 2598 2290, 2598 2291); or• at the Visual and Performing Arts School, Soil Street, Xewkija, Gozo (tel: 2783 0774).• at Local Council offices and the servizz.gov centres can also assist with the

submission of online applications (freephone: 153).



REGISTRATION RIGHTS

PAYMENT

If you choose this method of application, you can pay by cheque (payable to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Education) or using a Credit/Debit Card (when applying at the Directorate in Malta). Applications sent by post will not be accepted.

Between 12 July and 4 August, we are also offering a guidance service for applicants who need help in choosing the appropriate subject and level.

Kindly note the following Terms & Conditions

• Registration payment (where applicable) is indicated in each Course Group section.

• For a class to be formed, a minimum number of students must register. In most cases, this minimum is 10.

• The Director reserves the right to change this number for a particular subject based on its importance.

• Classes that have fewer students throughout the year may be joined to ensure a sustainable service.

• It is preferable to apply online to ensure immediate registration.

• Individuals from foreign countries have to present their legal documentation. One may not request a visa for a long stay on the pretence of applying for any of the courses.

The payment for applicants is as follows:

Applicants who are:

(a) citizens of Malta; or

(b) citizens of other Member States of the European Union who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters of employment by virtue of EU legislation and treaty provisions dealing with the free movement of workers; or

(c) citizens of any other country who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters related to employment by virtue of the application to that country of EU legislation and treaty provisions dealing with the free movement of workers; or

(d) any other persons who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters related to employment in terms of the law or the above-mentioned EU legislation and treaty provisions, on account of their family relationship with persons mentioned in paragraph (a), (b) or (c); or

(e) third country nationals who have been granted long-term resident status in Malta under regulation 4 of the ‘Status of Long-Term Residents (Third Country Nationals) Regulations, 2006’ or who have been granted a residence permit under regulation 18 (3) thereof, together with family members of such third country nationals who have been granted a residence permit under the Family Reunification Regulations, 2007.

MINIMUM AGE FOR REGISTRATION

LEVELS, CERTIFICATES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants who do not fall into any of the above categories will need to pay double the amount indicated. For instance, for Short Courses, the payment due would be €37.26.

Once you have made your payment, please keep a printed copy of your receipt to show to the tutor on the first day of attendance of each course. Learners will not be allowed to attend the course without the receipt.

There will be no changes to the registration of courses after payment is made, except in the case of courses that have to be cancelled.

The following are exempted from payment:

• Adults who qualify under (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) under the above subtitle ‘Payment’, and who apply for the introductory courses in literacy (Maltese and English) and numeracy (Mathematics).

• Those in possession of the Senior Citizens Card (Kartanzjan) do not pay for their first course. However all subsequent courses applied for during the scholastic year 2017-2018 will need to be paid for.

• Applicants who, due to social reasons, declare that they cannot afford the relevant fee, have to apply in person and not through the online service. They will then need to fill in and sign the necessary form, which is to be verified and approved by the Director after consultation with the Department of Social Services.

Applicants who feel they are entitled to payment exemption require permission to be issued by the appropriate Board within the Ministry for Education and Employment. This exemption has to be obtained before the course commences, otherwise payment will be required. If the exemption is received after the payment is made, the applicant will be entitled to a payment refund. Applicants will need toacquire this Exemption Form and apply at the Ministry’s Board.

No refund will be granted except when changes are made directly by the Directorate.

A course may be held, or terminated, at the discretion of the Director, in which case the applicants are entitled to a full refund pro-rata, provided that they will not be the cause for the termination of the course in question.

All applicants must be 16 years of age or over, if not stated otherwise in certain specific sections or Centres.

Most courses start at the beginning of October and finish towards the end of May. Most have a duration of approximately 32 weeks, with other shorter courses lasting a maximum of 14 weeks. Further details regarding specific courses are indicated within the schedules of this information booklet.

No lessons are held on public holidays or on scholastic holidays. Academic year holidays are as follows:

1-3 November

25-31 December

1-6 January

12-13February

28 March – 4 April

Examinations are held between the last week of May and the first two weeks of June.

When a school has an activity which will be held after normal school hours, lessons may be postponed.

Courses may also be postponed or cancelled at the discretion of the Director.

It is important that learners choose the appropriate levels and courses that fit their needs. It is recommended that participants achieve a minimum of 75% in the final assessment and/or initial diagnostic test to progress to the next level course.



FACILITIES

HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT

A certificate of attendance can only be issued if participants attend 80% of lessons.In the case of courses which are accredited and/or have a formal assessment, onlyparticipants who attend 80% of the course can sit for such exams/be formally assessed.

The Directorate offers various courses including:

Introductory Level

These courses target students with difficulties in reading and/or writing, maths and computing. These lessons are mainly conducted in Maltese.

MQF Level 1 and MQF Level 2

Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) Courses marked as MQF have beenapproved and accredited by the National Commission for Further and HigherEducation.

MQF 1 indicates a basic course that introduces students to a subject for the firsttime. At MQF 2, students will continue to improve competences in that subject.The accreditation process is still on-going for a number of courses. They willnot necessarily be accredited within this academic year. However, the levelsare included so as to indicate what level you can expect to reach through thesecourses.

MATSEC

This refers to the Secondary Education Certificate (SEC), also known as the O’ Level,Intermediate level and Advanced level. The Directorate offers revision courses forMATSEC. Students who register for these courses are expected to have alreadyreached the required level in the relevant subject.

City and Guilds Certification

Open Classes

These courses are for learners who have already finished the first level of aparticular course, or who have been attending classes for a number of years.Through these Open Classes, learners will have the opportunity to keep learningand boost their skills.

Certificates are to be requested from the Directorate by not later than one yearafter the completion of the course.

We kindly ask that participants take good care of the classrooms, laboratories, andother facilities that are at their disposition in the Learning Centres. The Centres are tobe kept clean at all times.

Please note that smoking is prohibited at the Centres.

The Directorate is not to be held responsible for the maintenance of Centres/schoolsthat do not fall directly under its remit.

Each Learning Centre for Adults will have a coordinator assigned to it. If you noteany problems at the Centre, or would like to file a complaint or make a suggestionabout your course, kindly speak directly to your coordinator, or send an email [email protected]

FURTHER INFORMATION

• Courses that lead to SEC, Intermediate or Advanced Level are a revision of the syllabus and therefore the educators are not expected to cover the full syllabus that would normally take years to cover in compulsory school or at post-secondary level.

• Once your registration is accepted, you will need to follow the regulations issued by the Directorate.

• If you do not follow these rules, you may be asked to leave the course.

• Students found attending a course without having paid, will be asked to leave.

• The Directorate does not assume responsibility if an Adult Educator terminates his or her service but will take all the necessary measures needed to secure a replacement as soon as possible.

• Participants can only apply for one course in a particular subject.

• Unless otherwise indicated, please note that lessons will be delivered in Maltese or English.

• All of our Adult Educators are selected by the Directorate. Applicants must note that they are applying to learn a particular subject and not to be placed with a particular educator.

• Adult Educators may ask for your personal contact details, such as a mobile number, so that they can notify you immediately if a lesson is postponed due to an emergency.

• Every effort will be made to give precise information about each course, however the Directorate is not responsible for any mistakes or missing information.

• Most courses leading to official examinations, such as SEC, MATSEC and City & Guilds, come to an end on the date of the examination, irrespective of when the examination is held.

• Particular situations not highlighted in this booklet may arise. In which case, the Director reserves the right to take a decision that he deems fit under the circumstances.

• The Directorate reserves the right to make changes to the timetables depending on the number of applicants.

• Living and Working Course in Malta – Foreign Nationals wishing to register for the Living and Working in Malta course need to finalise the Maltese as a Foreign Language MQF 1 and Maltese as a Foreign Language MQF 2 courses prior to enrolling on the Living and Working course. This is due to the fact that the validity of the Living and Working certificate is for up to one year and by this time frame participants need to also achieve a minimum of MQF level 2 proficiency in Maltese.

• Tools and resources used in class are to be bought by participants.

Every extra skill that you have will help you in one way or another – whether you are still in education or are already part of the workforce.

Computer skills are crucial and they will give your CV a definite boost. Our related courses vary from basic options to get you started, such as word processing and image editing, to more advanced qualifications in Photoshop, Java programming, web design and ECDL.

If you work in the services sector, or are considering a career in this area, then you may want to take a course in human resource management or customer care. Alternatively, a course in starting a business could inspire an exciting next step in your life. You could even supplement this with interesting additional skills on automotive engineering, furniture renovation, upholstery, and psychology.

Il-korsijiet tagħna dwar stil ta’ ħajja sana ġew żviluppati għal dan l-għan, u tnejn mill-aktar korsijiet popolari f’dan il-qasam huma dak tat-tisjir u n-nutrizzjoni u dak tas-saħħa u l-iżvilupp f’età avvanzata.

L-ewwel kors, dak dwar it-tisjir u n-nutrizzjoni, jgħinek tagħżel dawk l-ingredjenti l-aktar addattati għal dieta tajba u jurik kif għandek issajjarhom biex tutilizza n-nutrijenti kollha tagħhom. We all want to live a long and happy life. Often that starts with an investment in ourselves and in understanding the things that will make our body, mind and soul healthier.

Our healthy living courses have been developed to help achieve this. For instance, our cookery and nutrition course will teach you which foods to add to your diet, as well as how to cook them. Our tutor will guide you on how to make healthy meals for you and your family, and give you tips on how to boost their nutritional content with vitamins and minerals. This course is ideal if you want to know this information for yourself or even if you are considering a future career in the nutrition sector.

Our course on health, wellbeing and successful ageing is designed to give you the tools you need to stay fit and healthy as you get older. It will teach you about the food to incorporate into your diet and the types of exercise that will keep you feeling fit. It will also educate you on how to keep an active mind and provide advice on various aspects of wellbeing from skin care to basic psychology.

Finally, our personal care course is aimed at teaching you the basics of skin care and make-up. It is well-suited to everyone from young people keen to learn how to take care of their skin and apply make-up, to older people who want to understand how to combat ageing and keep their skin supple.

It is an introduction to those life skills that will help you look after yourself and feel good.

Il-kreattività tinsab f’kulħadd. Iżda filwaqt li ċerti nies skoprew modi kif jużaw il-kreattività f’dak kollu li jagħmlu, oħrajn isibuha kemxejn aktar diffiċli li jsibu l-mod ideali biex jużaw il-kreattività tagħhom. Għaldaqstant, qed noffru diversi korsijiet fl-espressjoni kreattiva; korsijiet li jistgħu jgħinuk tisfrutta l-potenzjal tiegħek.

Il-korsijiet li noffru jvarjaw minn dawk fil-ħjata u fir-rakkmu għall-korsijiet dwar l-arredazzjoni tad-dar u d-dekorazzjoni tal-kejkijiet, minn kors fl-arranġamenti tal-fjuri għal dawk marbuta mas-snajja’ tradizzjonali Maltin bħall-bizzilla, il-ganutell u l-insiġ.

CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Discover the joy of the creative process

The seeds of creativity live in everyone. Some people find that they inject creativity into everything they do – from cooking unusual dishes to coming up with innovative ways to solve problems. Others would like to be creative, but haven’t yet found a way of expressing that.

Our creative expression courses have been designed to enable you to showcase your creative side. They will give you the chance to work with an experienced tutor on the subject of your choice and to learn a new skill. You could try your hand at cake decorating and make beautiful cakes for your friends and family. Alternatively, you could work with fabric in our courses on basic sewing, embroidery and beading techniques.

Inspired by our heritage you could also take up a Maltese craft such as lace-making or ganutell (crafting decorative flowers from silk thread and beads), or you could make gifts for your friends using your new flower arranging skills, macramé or weaving.

Working creatively encourages you to think differently. The lessons you join may simply give you a creative space to think in, away from the structure of your daily routine. They may even inspire you to take up a long-term hobby or start a small artisan business. Whatever you want to achieve, there are various course levels you can attend and a number of qualifications to gain.

The beautiful thing about creativity is that you never know where it could take you next.
