blessing of freedom, and in our life experience we know we are not free to do all things, thus we must prioritize how we act, live and love. Let us, then, use our freedom to love our neighbor more intentionally.

Pope Francis invites the Church, and all people of good will, to love our neighbor in a special way. He invites us to reach out to the periphery, the edges of the social life and to love those who have been cast out. Early in his papacy I recall him saying, "do not toss your money at the poor, rather, bend down low, look into their eyes of the poor and greet them with the dignity that they deserve." Very powerful to take that extra step for a genuine encounter of our neighbor.

St. Paul continues in our second reading with the following words, "But if you go on biting and devouring one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another." He warns us against the venom and vitriol which is seen so often between persons in the world. "to bite" against our neighbor or "to devour" an opponent is too often celebrated within our culture which bears such strong polarities of social values. In a large and powerful sense we commit ourselves to prayer that this deep posture of conflict in culture loosens its prideful, dividing and acerbic grip. On a local and practical level we deepen our self awareness and see if we fall into these "biting and devouring" categories of life and if so, calm down and trust in the Lord. These actions can come from two main places, pridefulness or fear. Pridefulness in that we see ourself above others and are disrespectful by demeaning others. Fear, in that, we are afraid that what we are trying to preserve or protect is being threatened and we are like a badger protecting our corner of life. Christ is needed in both of these situations. For the prideful Christ is needed to reveal a love for others, to diminish your own self importance and to recognize the dignity of others. For the fearful, Christ is needed as a source of strength and trust. Trust those things that you feel are threatened to the Lord. Be at peace my child, trust in the Lord!

Thanks to our Artists

I am grateful to our Youth Ministry students who shared their creative talents last week for Corpus Christi. Their artwork on our entryway and around our processional path by the rosary garden and outside of our north exit by St. Joseph were a beautiful contribution to brighten our day and show our community's love for our Lord on such a holy feast day! I also like how the Lord has held back the rain a few days so that we can enjoy these holy images just a little longer!

Our Parish Patron Saints

Saints Peter & Paul have been appointed to us to be specific and prioritized patrons, protectors, intercessors and models of holiness of our community. This June 29th we are celebrating their Feast Day. Our holy saints are known as the chief martyrs of Rome. Their execution in the early 60s (as in 64 A.D.) was a highly noted event in the Christian world, an act that was seen as the Roman Empire vs Jesus Christ. Martyrdom in the life of the Church has always been an event which strengthens the surviving faithful to a deeper witness of faith and love. Let us celebrate our holy Patrons with a special Mass at 7pm on Wednesday, June 29th, and have some time for fellowship at the firepit afterwards to celebrate our great saints.

+Blessings,

Fr. Trowbridge

From the Pastor’s Desk

Greetings,

Our summer days are rolling forward. We wish we could slow them down a little. There are so many things that can fill our time. We are free to choose what we wish. Yet it is not possible to do everything. To say 'yes' to one opportunity is an implicit 'no' to another. This is one way to look at the gift of our freedom as a person. Although we are free we are not able to do all things. We do not like to be limited. We tend to bristle or stiffen when we encounter an obstacle or disruption within our plan. St. Paul, in our second reading today, invites us to a special understanding of freedom. "...Do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." We have the

Education as a Total Person - Students at Saints Peter & Paul are called each day to reach their highest potential as Christians. With our small class sizes and fantastic faculty we can promise that our faculty will not just know your child on an academic level, but foster growth socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Students and staff at SSPP attempt the calling to be like Jesus each day! This leads to tremendous personal growth and character building in our students.

If you have any questions about our school or would like to take a tour of the building, please feel free to contact me personally at [email protected]. We are always looking to grow our community. A Catholic education is one of the greatest investments you will ever make for your children!

From the desk of Mr. Satterlee

I am often asked in tours and conversations what makes SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School such a special place. While there are many points and reasons to discuss, below are some of my insights from serving as SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School’s principal. Over the next few weeks I will share some of the many reasons SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School is a great place to educate your kids!

©LPi
