Newtown Heritage Festival Wrap-Up

The Commons is pristine once again, and the banners have been taken down and

stored for another year. That means another Newtown Heritage Festival is in the

books, committed to memory.

And memorable it was, but not just for the searing heat. Our 20th anniversary

festival, we believe, will long be remembered for its concerts, its crowds, its crackling

fireworks, the sense of community it engendered , and for coming off virtually without

a hitch or a notable glitch. For this we have many, many people to thank.

Veteran’s Memorial

Brick Sponsorship

The Parks and Recreation

Committee along with the

Town Council have decided

that the brick sponsorship is

to honor the memory of

those who served, to honor

those who have served or are

serving in any of the five

branches of the service, (Army,

Navy, Air Force, Marines and

US Coast Guard).

At this time, we will only be

taking sponsorships for

veterans, although general

sponsorship of bricks may

eventually be considered and

will be displayed elsewhere on

the Veteran’s Memorial.

Please consider giving to this

most worthwhile cause to

honor our veterans.

Thus, we on the Newtown Heritage Festival committee

wish to express our gratitude to:

• The Town of Stephens City and, in particular, its Maintenance Department and Police Department (especially Police Officer Ron Fox, who serves as our liaison).

• The Sherando High School Band (Ryan Dempsey, director).

• Commercial Press, for attending to all our printing needs.

• Opequon District Supervisor Bill Ewing, for use of his vintage wagon.

• Carlyle & Anderson, for use of its John Deere "Gator."

• Graphics North, for the banner stretching across Main Street.

• Galen Oscar, for the use of his building as a "green room" for our musical performers.

• Stone House Foundation, for all its "heritage" guidance.

• Robert Carbaugh, for his historical display.

• Vista II Properties.

• Marcus Lemasters and his cadre of 18th-century re-enactors.

• Dudley Rinker, for all his help (and for gamely donning the "Newton Bear" costume in all that heat).

• The Griffin Family, for manning our Concessions Tent the entire afternoon and evening.

• Abundant Life Church, for assisting in the clean up on Sunday afternoon.

And, finally, all law enforcement and security

personnel who provided traffic control (Winchester

City, Front Royal, Haymarket, Strasburg, and

Middletown Police as well as Bill Taylor and Haines

Security).

Many thanks, and many apologies if we've left any-

one off this list. Hope to see you next year for our

21st annual Newtown Heritage Festival!

Sincerely,

Adrian J. O’Connor

President (writing on behalf of the Newtown Heritage

Festival Committee)
