GlobalJournalism,MediaandCommunicationstudentsfromtheGriffithUniversitypartneredwithstudentsfromO.P.JindalGlobalUniversity’sJindalSchoolofJournalismandCommunicationinaCollaborativeOnlineInternationalLearning(COIL)newsroomenvironmenttoproduceaseriesofjournalismpackagesonIndianriversystems.ThisprojectbringstogetherGriffithUniversity’sNewColomboPlan‑fundedTheWaterStoryandRiverDialoguesproducedbytheJindalSchoolofJournalismandCommunicationincollaborationwiththeIndiaInternationalCentreandLivingWaterMuseum.ThestudentswillproducejournalismcontentforpublicationontheWaterStorywebsite,andinotherparticipatingpublications.TheCOILnewsroomconsistsof5‑8teamsof10studentsineachteam.AteamconsistsofamixofGriffithstudentsfromtheNathan,GoldCoastandOnlinecampuses,alongsidestudentsfromtheJindalSchoolofJournalismandCommunication.ThestudentteamsreportdirectlytotheeditorialteamconsistingofGriffithandOPJindalteachingstaffandtheWaterStoryproductionstaff.

CollaborativeOnlineInternationalLearningInternationalCollaborationOurfacultyregularlyparticipateininternationalconferences.Inthepast,facultymembershavepresentedtheirresearchattheAssociationforEducationinJournalismandMassCommunication(AEJMC),theInternationalCommunicationAssociation(ICA),aswellastheNordicInstituteofAsianStudiesConferenceattheUniversityofLund.WehavealsohostedguestsofinternationalreputesuchasMrinaliniSinhaattheUniversityofMichigan,ArvindRajagopalofNewYorkUniversity,andothers.In2019,wehostedajointconferencewiththeUniversityofOregon.In2021,wehostedajointvirtualconferencewithTheMediaSchool,IndianaUniversityBloomington.JSJChasteamedupwithDailyChatter(largestnewsletterintheUnitedStates)tomakefreesubscriptionstothenewsletteravailabletoallstudentsandfacultyatJGU.DailyChatterisindependent,fact‑basedandnon‑partisanandthenewsletteriswritteninaconversational,easy‑to‑readstyledesignedtobereadorlistenedtoonyoursmartphoneoranyotherdigitaldevice.
