The main was not the weight of the power units , up to 20 ton, but their final positioning. Fagioli main equipment wascomposed of No. 3 by 50 ton capacity jacks - No. 4 skidding beams - No. 2 tower supports - No. 4 rollers for the skiddingoperations - tirfor winches. Fagioli prepared a 4.5 m support structure made of towers positioned at ground level onto No.2 metal plates used as base in order to obtain a better stabilization during the operations. No. 2 transversal beams werepositioned on top of the towers. No. 2 x 5 m long skidding tracks were placed within the installation area by an overheadcrane. Then No. 2 x 12 m long skidding systems were positioned by the mobile crane between Fagioli towers and thebuilding roof. Fagioli operators prepared No. 4 skidding stools positioned onto the skidding beams. The turbine was liftedfrom the trailer used for the transport operation by a mobile crane. Once loaded, the turbine was gently positioned at a

Once in position the tirfor winches, previously connected to the skiddingstools, started to pull the turbine towards the foundation inside the building. Once in position the turbine was lifted by thejacks placed under the skidding tracks and loaded with the overhead crane. The skidding beams and the skidding supportswere then removed while the turbine was laid onto the jacks. The final installation of the turbine was executed by loweringthe jacks at foundation height. The operations above mentioned were repeated for the skidding and installation of the 2.6ton Oil Unit. Pictures at the bottom show some of the different phases of the installation process: the lifting of the turbineonto the towers and the positioning of it onto the skidding supports. Fagioli successfully completed the job, in a safelymanner, following a methodical procedure previously agreed with the client.Fagioli specializes in heavy road transport of turbines as shown in the pictures at the top. Picture top left shows the challenging transport executed by Fagioli from Bottrighe to Mantua (about 140 km in North ofItaly) of a 205 ton exchanger. Dimensions were quite impressive considering the width which was 7.30 m for a height of5.30 m. Fagioli used a 16 axle line trailer for the transport up to site. Main concerns were the dismantling of a largenumbers of road signs and light poles during the journey which lasted two nights. The passage onto a railway crossing wasagreed with rail local authorities who imposed the closure of the rail passages in order to allow the lifting of the electricalcables. Once the exchanger arrived at client site, it was lifted by means of Fagioli gantry lifting system for its finalinstallation (small picture at the top). Picture top right shows the transport of two cold boxes with final destination Marghera port. The cold boxes (for a total ofNo. 6 units) were long up to 24 m each, with a height of 5.7 m. Fagioli used different kind of extendible trailers (No. 6 - No.8 axle lines) in order to execute the transports. The long convoy forced Fagioli to execute challenging manoeuvres duringthe whole trip: on exiting the manufacturer factory; overpassing the roundabouts; 2.5 km in reverse during the passagethrough a small town. The whole operation was successfully completed thanks to the pre-planning surveys and studies

Another convoy destined to Marghera port (picture bottom left)was 6.55 m height and 5.5 m wide but with a centre of gravity positioned on the right side of the case which held thepower module inside (please see picture bottom left on the previous page). The 120 ton load was moved by a 12 axle linestrailer with great difficulty, especially during the passage of roundabouts and curves. Numerous road signs were removedand placed back into their original position after the passage of the convoy. The transport was executed at a very low speed, due to the peculiar position of the load onto the trailer. After the collapse of a bridge occurred at the beginning of 2017, therestrictions of the heavy road transport were increased. Local authorities need supplementary studies and surveys beforethe release of road permits for heavy transport operations. This was the case for the transport of a 160 ton transformerfrom Legnano to Tavazzano (picture bottom right). Fagioli heavy transport department needed to issue up to six times thetransit procedures of the convoy due to the restrictions above mentioned. Fagioli in two nights executed the transport witha 11 by 11 axle lines trailers. Picture at the centre shows a heavy transport operation with a low-floor trailer.

Owning one of the largest fleets of Strand Jacks andTower Lift systems, Fagioli can boast a long trackrecord in bridge construction, erection of bridgesections side spans and centre spans, incrementallaunching of bridges and slide-in of completeprefabricated bridges. Over the last few years, Fagiolihas carried out the positioning and installation ofcivil structures such as bridges, walkway bridgesections, air traffic tower control using also SPMTs.The key aspect of this kind of activity is engineering, coordination and precision. The engineeringcalculations are a fundamental aspect of this kind ofjob due to the fact that the positioning of the civil

structures must be performed with great care, thanksalso to the flexibility and high capacity of theequipment used. In some cases Fagioli came up withinnovative proposals to perform challenging civilinstallations, providing tailor made solutions, in closecollaboration with the client. Some examples of thecivil jobs executed in 2017 by Fagioli are: thepositioning of caissons and barriers into the water forthe MO.S.E. project in Venice (an integrated defencesystem composed of mobile gates able to isolate theVenetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea during heavyrains and announced flood); lifting of a complete netcable structure for the new Atletico Madrid Stadium.

Fagioli engineering department, after months of tests and 3d simulations, ended upwith the construction of a reliable launching system with the following dimension:HEIGHT 34 m; LENGTH 48 m; WIDTH 18.5 m.

ASSEMBLYFagioli used Gantry lifting system, SPMTs and mobile cranes to assemble thesections of the Launching system. First, Fagioli assembled the Crosshead beams thenthe towers were assembled. The crosshead beams, 48 m long, were provided on topwith strand jacking system for the lowering / lifting operations of the mobile gates. No.4 x 300 ton capacity strand jacks were fixed on top of the crosshead beams. ThenFagioli completed the assembly of the lateral movable towers, able to open up for 180degrees. The towers were connected at the top and at the bottom with no. 2 beamscalled bottom and top frames. A middle frame is used to allow the rotation of thetowers. The base frame was supposed to be connected to the caisson, under water, once the gantry towers were opened. In order to execute the installation of the gatesit was built a dedicated lifting system called «fishing beam». This lifting device wasconnected to the strand jacking system allowing the hooking of the gate for thelowering and final positioning into the water. AUXILIARY EQUIPMENTFagioli built another tailor made structure called “transport beams”. This structurewas provided with retractable beams used to lift the gantry lifting system from thecaissons and reposition it onto another caisson for the installation of the gates. Theretractable beams equipped with No. 4 x 300 ton capacity each strand jacks and powerpacks for the skidding of the beams. Fagioli used a total of 36 axle lines SPMT for the

Once connected and checked thecorrect position of the launching system, the barge was unmoored and sailed away. Thebarge got to Pellestrina island where all the mobile gates were stored. Fagioli proceededwith the load out operation onto the barge. The barge then was pushed back to theinstallation area. The barge was moored underneath the launching system previously laidonto the caissons. In order to reach for the correct positon for the connection of themobile gate with the fishing beam (supported by the strand jacks on top of the launchingsystem) it was necessary to execute a 180 degrees rotation. This operation was executedby the SPMTs , which were also used to get the mobile barrier underneath the fishingbeam. The fishing beam was gently lowered and eventually connected to the gate. Afterconnection, the gate was lifted by No. 4 strand jacks positioned on top of the liftingstructure and the barge was sailed away. The mobile gate was lowered into the water bythe strand jacks connected to the fishing beams. The final operation was the connectionof the gate with the caisson after checking , by waterproof cameras, the correct positioning.Once the connection was executed, the gate was automatically freed from the “fishingbeam” and taken back into position ready for the following installations. Fagioli used thetransport beam (positioned onto the barge) to lift the gantry system and reposition it ontothe following caissons. The transport beam was a retractable structure positioned ontoSPMTs and provided with strand jacks. The transport beams were skidded to the outsideto get in contact with the gantry lifting system. The gantry lifting system wasdisconnected from the bottom base, and was connected to the transport beams. Thetransport beams strand jacks lifted the launching system and the barge was unmooredready to be pushed by the tugboats onto the following caissons.

Fagioli Ltd. UK was involved in the lifting of the cover cable system of the seating area of La PeinetaStadium, in Madrid (Spain). The seating area was to be covered with flexible membrane roofingsupported by a tensioned cable net structure. The roof was formed by an external compression ring ofsteel, an inner tension ring and two groups of radial cables that connect the rings. There are n˚96 strandsfixed to the external ring: n˚48 connected to the upper tension ring and n˚48 connected to the lowertension ring. The Fagioli equipment (strand jacks, strands, PPUs) was assembled, connected andcommissioned once all the compression ring sections had been installed on the primary concretestructure. The cable net roof was to be lifted by pulling the radial cable up to the tension ring andattaching each one with a steel pin to the tension ring. N˚2 strand jacks L100 were fixed on the jacksupport beam. The strand jacks applied the pulling force to the radial cables through temporary cablescomprising a number of individual high tensile strands. The application of the load to the lower radialcable by the strand jack raised the cable and the upper tension ring as a single unit. The Big Lift wascarried out in two different stages: -First, where the lifting equipment were connected to the lowercable and connected to the upper tension ring.

-Second, where the lifting equipment were connected to the upper cable and connected to the lowertension ring. The strands were anchored in the jack at one end, and in a fixed anchor at the remoteend. This unit was connected to the radial cable and imparts the pulling force directly in the line ofthe pin connection between the radial cable socket and the fixing lug on the tension ring. The totalweight of the raised structure was 360 tonnes. The force required to tension the radial cables andconnect them to the tension ring (and thus cause lifting) was far beyond the very weight of theTension Ring, because the force required for lifting, in this case, was not vertical but inclined likeradial cables. The L100 strand jacks reached the expected load, working about 100% of theirnominal capacity (in some cases up to 100 tons of shooting). Each pair of jacks was powered a onededicated electric power pack unit (PPU) located on the ground. Each PPU was supplied withelectrical power. The two jacks were hydraulically connected to each other to ensure equality of loadin each. Overall the project ran from september 26, 2016 to February 28, 2017. Lifting began on January 10 and ended on February 21st. The inauguration of the stadium tookplace on 16 September 2017.

The load was gradually increased from thehydraulic jacks with steps of 20%. A remote computer systemchecked the tolerances and eventual vertical displacements.Fagioli proceeded with the lifting operation until the elevatorreached the design skidding position (elevator skidding railsalignment with cantilever skidding rails). At each loading stepFagioli operators checked the tower verticality, the raiser deckdeflection, the elevator girder planarity and deformations.PHASE 2: SKIDDING OPERATIONAfter checking the alignment of skid tracks on the CantileverBeams and on the Elevator Girders, Fagioli installed the Strandjacks L15 and connected to the Top RAM Guide: n. 2 L15 on(STERN side) to move the module onto Cantilever beams andno. 2 on Elevator girder (BOW side) for contingency plan.Operators connected and tightened no. 4 turnbuckles 5 t fromelevator girder to cantilever beam and installed two bridgeelements. No. 8 stoppers were removed from the skidding rails. The skidding operation was executed adjusting the stroke asneeded to keep the skid tracks at the same elevation.PHASE 3: JACKING DOWNNo.8 hydraulic jacks (Capacity 50 t /each) were positioned underTop Ram Guide frame beam with proper shimming underneaththe jacks in order to have a free gap of approx. 10 mm betweenjacks and Ram Guide frame. No.8 hydraulic jacks were raisedtill they were in contact with the Top frame beam of the module.Once the full load was reached on the hydraulic Jacks, the n°L15FAH from RAM guide were disconnected and the No. 8hydraulic jacks were raised. The Top Ram Guide was lifted andthe rollers from RAM guide top frame, removed. The Ram guidewas lowered until connection plates were in contact with the restof the structure.

The shipyard industry is one of the areas in which Fagioli isextremely active guaranteeing the required specializedengineering capabilities during the delicate movement andhoisting operations of vessel sections, ships or yachts. Shipbuilding regularly uses pre-assembled sections, so entirehuge multi-deck segments of the structure are often builtelsewhere in the yard and moved to the building dock orslipway and connected into place or in floating docks, ready

for the launching operation. This so called "blockconstruction" often divides the ship in two sections (bow andstern) which are then connected with extraordinaryprecision by means of SPMTs. Fagioli long experience in shipyard industry is demonstratedwith the proud participation in a long series of performingsuch heavy transport activities for private and military shipsand submarines.
