A b s t r a c t : Attention given to the role of researchers in q u alitative m ethod s q u estions the cond itions of production of knowledge on the experience of persons with intellectual disabilities. The inv olv em ent of researchers has to be discussed regarding their interactions with m em bers of a m uted group labelled as hav ing social and com m unicativ e incom petence. The article discusses the interest of first person researchers’ texts in the approach to the social experience of intellectual disability . I t adv ocates a reasonable use of personal accounts of research to explain the conditions of production of knowledge and dev elop com parability between studies.
