‘Integral partners’ in nation buildingWomen key to achieving family stability and security in society: Al Ansari

• Expanding participation of women in public life and national economy

• Among priorities of National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women

TDT | Manama

The family stability and cohesion theme tops the priorities of the National

Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.

This was emphasised by Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Secretary General Hala Al Ansari.

It highlights Bahrain’s expe-rience in this regard, whose op-erations are spearheaded by the SCW, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim

Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King.Al Ansari indicated that the

work plans and initiatives of this theme have been designed in ac-cordance with a scientific meth-od, based on national indices and international comparisons, as well as creating interconnected relationships between the im-pact of family stability on soci-etal security and the increased participation of women in public life and national economy.

Al Ansari made the statements while participating as a keynote speaker in the fourth edition of the Saudi Family Forum, held in conjunction with the fifth anni-versary of the launch of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

She praised the directives of the Saudi government to pave the way for women’s influential participation in their country’s development process, becoming real partners in making the king-dom’s present and future.

Al Ansari said that the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the health, eco-

nomic and social levels require accelerated reviews and treat-ments, as indicated by the re-port of the Economic and Social Council of the UN General As-sembly on the implementation of the goals of the International Day of Families 2021.

She noted that many countries have put in place exceptional measures to contain the life difficulties faced by the family, specifically in the field of recon-ciling family and work respon-sibilities, positive upbringing of children and increasing the participation of fathers in car-rying out family tasks.

Al Ansari indicated that the work of the SCW in partnership with its national allies has been based on three main pillars.

The first is the revision and development of laws, as well as bridging the gaps that affect the legal status of family members to ensure they are consistent with the Constitution’s provi-sions on eliminating all forms of discrimination and reaching

justice, while taking the specific family relations into account.

The second is the develop-ment and implementation of quality policies and strategies to translate legislation and laws into the ground, by integrat-ing the Bahraini family needs in the kingdom’s development process through initiatives and programmes to empower fam-ilies and enable them to take control of their affairs, in line with the goals set in the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

As to the third, it is connecting the efforts of the kingdom in the field of women empowerment and advancement with the sus-tainable development goals.

In her speech, Al Ansari gave examples of the national efforts to develop Bahraini families and enhance the level of their stability, such as the issuance of the Family Law, the desig-nation of special buildings for family courts and fast-tracking the litigation process to reduce pressure on such courts.

Al Ansari speaks in the Saudi Family Forum fourth edition

“The work plans and initiatives of this theme have been designed in accordance with a

scientific method, based on national indices and international comparisons, as well as creating

interconnected relationships between the impact of family stability on societal security.”

Hearing begins for African man who killed roommateTDT | Manama

The High Criminal Court began hearing the case of

an African man who killed his roommate before attempting to murder six others after sus-pecting that he was scammed into accepting a job opportunity.

The defendant went as far as also trying to commit suicide.

He reportedly was offered to

work in Bahrain by one of his friends in his hometown, and the latter requested him to pay BD1,600 in order to pave the way for him to come.

He settled the amount, and he agreed to sign a contract for three months only.

However, when he arrived in Bahrain, nobody welcomed him at the airport and he had to wait for a long period of time

until someone from the compa-ny arrived and picked him up and demanded from him to pay BD20 for the rent of the place in which he will live.

His anger was triggered when he was forced to sign a contract running for three years instead of the agreed three months. Adding salt to his wounds, his roommates reportedly mistreat-ed him, prompting him to be-

come hostile. “I needed to drink water and

I asked one of my roommates from where I could get. He shouted at me for no reason and I quarreled with him. I took a knife and stabbed him several times,” the defendant told pros-ecutors.

He then stabbed himself using the same knife in a bid to com-mit suicide.

Rome airport readies for flying taxis by 2024

Reuters | Rome

Passengers flying into Rome from 2024 on-

wards will be able to go air-borne for their taxi ride into the city centre too, if a pro-ject between the company operating its main airport and a German startup lifts off on schedule.

Startup Volocopter hopes to make Fiumicino Airport a pioneer site for the ro-tor-bladed, battery-pow-ered two-seater air taxi it is developing.

Aeroporti di Roma (AdR) CEO Marco Troncone said the journey in one of the craft, which takes off and lands vertically, will take around 15 minutes, com-pared with 45 minutes or more by car.

The initial cost of a ride will be around 150 euros ($175), a price likely to drop as the service goes main-stream, he said.

“The connection will be very swift,” he told Reuters at Fiumicino, where Volo-copter was showcasing a prototype. “It will be a silent journey and ... the level of emissions will be zero.”

Indian carmaker Maruti’s profit expectations upended by chip crunchReuters | Bengaluru

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s full-year sales

and profit expectations have been upended by the global chip shortage and spike in commodity prices, India’s biggest carmaker said on Wednesday, as it missed second-quarter profit fore-casts. “At the beginning of the year we did not expect to lose so much production in the second quarter be-cause of chips and maybe lose production in the third quarter,” Chairman R.C. Bhargava said after Maruti posted a 65.3% plunge in quarterly net profit.

The company did not say what its full-year expecta-tions had been.

Maruti, which is majority owned by Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp, said net profit came in at 4.75 billion ru-pees ($63.38 million) for the second quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with 13.72 bil-lion rupees a year earlier. Analysts were expecting a profit of 7.21 billion rupees, according to Refinitiv data.

An estimated 116,000 vehicles could not be pro-duced due to the electronics component shortage, the carmaker said.

Kingdom Pride Centre for the Living Business ChallengeTDT | Manama

The Living Business 2021 programme kicked off in

March is supporting compa-nies in their transition to a net-zero global economy, in association with HSBC.

At the heart of the plan is a pledge to reach net-zero by 2050, or sooner in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Out of more than a hundred companies, 71 have started or undertaken projects to make themselves or their industry more sustainable.

To qualify, the businesses must, during 2021, implement or commence implementation of a change which: n Reduces the business’s

or industry’s environmental footprint (e.g., saving of water, energy or waste or the introduc-tion of a transformation inno-vation) and/orn Enhances the social

capital of the business including the health, safety, wellbeing or skills of its staff or improves the wellbeing of its customers.n Creates a sustainable

governance framework, includ-ing engagement, reporting and transparency.

Over this period, Kingdom Pride Center said, the centre introduced sustainable prod-ucts such as toys made of recy-cled material, bamboo tooth-brushes and eco-friendly food containers, together with cloth and paper bags for shoppers to place their merchandise. As an added incentive, the centre said it also offers a 0.025 fils discount for any customer who brings their shopping bag from

home. Kingdom Pride Center aims

to provide its customers with a wide range of affordable quali-ty products. “If you can fit your mobile in your back pocket, why not leave your reusable shopping bag in your car? It’s great to grow your business while doing your part for your country and the planet too,” said store manager Naveen Shekar.

This is their start towards helping reduce the consump-tion of plastic bags, togeth-er with supporting Bahrain s Sustainable Development Goals.

Living Business will now present how these businesses are improving their environ-mental and social footprints, thereby making their coun-tries: UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qa-tar and Egypt, more sustaina-ble. Competitors are in three categories: Small, Medium and Corporate sized businesses.

Saudi could go carbon-neutral before 2060, minister saysRiyadh | AFP

Saudi Arabia could go carbon neutral before its 2060 target

if technology evolves quickly enough, its energy minister said yesterday, days before the COP26 climate summit.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said new processes enabling the “circular carbon econo-my” -- a concept where waste carbon is captured and repur-

posed -- were key to the world’s top oil exporter achieving net zero.

“CCE first and foremost de-pends on the evolution of tech-nology,” the minister told the conference, describing 2060 as a “dynamic baseline”.

“Actually, i f technology evolves even faster, we may not have to wait until 2060. It could bring it earlier.”

On Saturday, Saudi Arabia

pledged to go carbon neutral by 2060. Two days later it an-nounced a billion-dollar con-tribution to initiatives to fund the circular carbon economy and provide “clean” fuel for the world’s poor.

The United Nations says more than 130 countries have set or are considering a target of re-ducing greenhouse gas emis-sions to net zero by mid-century.

World leaders will gather in

Glasgow from Sunday for the UN’s COP26, a historic summit billed as humanity’s “last best chance” to get devastating cli-mate change under control.

“The most daunting challenge that we are all faced with is cli-mate change,” the energy min-ister said, before adding that he did not expect any drop in demand for oil.

“I still argue it would not hap-pen,” he said.

News in brief u A former army private admitted at a trial on Tuesday that he had helped transport a hit squad to assassinate Burkina Faso’s revolutionary leader, Thomas Sankara, 34 years ago. The trial unfolding at a military court in Ouagadougou is being closely followed by the Burkinabe public, many of whom hope it will shed light on one of their country’s darkest chapters. Fourteen people are on trial for the 1987 assassination in which Sankara and 12 others were cut down in a hail of bullets at a top government meeting.

u The United States has issued its first passport with an “X” gender designation — a milestone in the recognition of the rights of people who don’t identify as male or female — and expects to be

able to offer the option to nonbinary, intersex and gender-nonconforming people early next year, the State Department said yesterday. The US′ special diplomatic envoy for LGBTQ rights, Jessica Stern, called the moves

historic and celebratory, saying they bring the government documents in line with the “lived reality” that there is a wider spectrum of human sex characteristics than is reflected in the previous two designations.

u Hiroshima A-bomb survivor Sunao Tsuboi, who became a prominent campaigner for nuclear disarmament and met Barack Obama on his historic visit to the city, has died aged 96, his advocacy group said yesterday. Tsuboi was on his way to engineering school in 1945 when the first nuclear bomb attack was launched by the United States, turning the bustling metropolis into an inferno. “I suffered burns all over my body,” he told AFP in 2016. “Naked, I tried to run away for about three hours on August 6 but finally could no longer walk.” Then aged 20, he picked up a small rock and wrote on the ground “Tsuboi dies here”, before losing consciousness and waking up several weeks later.

u Latte drinkers may in the future be sipping on java sourced from a petri dish rather than a plantation, say scientists behind a new technique to grow what they hope to be sustainable coffee in a lab. “It’s really coffee, because there is nothing else than coffee material in the product,” Heiko Rischer tells AFP, pointing to a dish of

light brown powder. His team of researchers at the Finnish technical research institute VTT believe their coffee would avoid

many of the environmental pitfalls associated with the mass production of one of the world’s favourite drinks. The coffee is not ground from beans, but instead grown from a cluster of coffee plant cells under closely controlled temperature, light and oxygen conditions in a bioreactor.

Cricket craze and the subcontinent

George Bernard Shaw may have

said that ‘cricket’ is a game “played

by eleven fools and watched by

eleven thousand fools”. But what

does he know about cricket? And who cares

what the bearded Bernard thinks?

On Sunday evening, driving through some bye-lanes of Manama, I realized there was something strange. There were no usual crowds.

And then it dawned on me.These are the lanes where, mostly, people of the subcontinent

live. And this was the evening of the big game. It’s something no one would like to miss watching, whether on TVs or mobile phones.

The ICC World Cup T20 Cricket match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan makes all the difference.

If there is anything that the people of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are completely crazy about, apart from ‘cinema’, it is ‘cricket’. And when these two teams meet, they generate tremendous heat.

Historically, the British who brought this sport to India have left the crease long ago. After batting for 200 years – unable to face the bowling of the new 20th century freedom fighters - they went back to their pavilions, the Far Pavilions, in 1947. But, among other things, they had bequeathed to the region, this mania called cricket.

It is like they were saying, okay, here’s your land, back to you. We’ve split it into two, but you can go ahead, and make it into three. And then, here’s an extra gift. Cricket. You can fight over this game too, now and then, whenever you are tired of fighting over the bor-ders.

With these thoughts in my mind, I was waiting at a traf-fic signal for the light to turn green. I picked up my phone, from the seat on the side, and got a mild shock.

On WhatsApp, my daughter informed me that India has already lost 3 wickets. And that too in barely 5 overs. She was watching the match, some 3000 kilometres away, with her friends in Bengaluru, In-dia. And, like her friends, she began to worry.

But my phone rang just then, and our friend, a university professor and a wonderful neighbour, reassured me that there’s nothing to worry about. Losing three wickets quickly does not matter. We are a good team, he said, and India still has a good chance of scoring big and winning big. I must simply listen to his advice, go to his home quickly, and sit with him and his sons, to munch the snacks and watch the win.

Which I did, soon after. Munch the snacks, I mean. Not, watch the win.

Because, just two Pakistani men, Babar and Rizwan, did what the entire Indian team was unable to do together. Scoring 152 runs themselves without giving their fellow batsmen any trou-ble walking onto the pitch.

Pakistan won a T20 cricket match against India for the first time since T20 matches started, some 18 years ago. And it has won in style. And half of India is still in a daze, wondering what happened.

The serious cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan had spawned many memes, jokes, television ads, and parody songs long before these matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup started. And with this Pakistani win, cyberspace is just becoming more cluttered with this material. And it could keep increasing.

Twelve countries are playing in this world cup, and these two countries may or may not reach the finals. But, for the Indian and Pakistani cricket fans, every match between these two countries is itself a final. Or that’s the way it is perceived.

George Bernard Shaw may have said that ‘cricket’ is a game “played by eleven fools and watched by eleven thousand fools”. But what does he know about cricket? And who cares what the bearded Bernard thinks?

We are from the subcontinent, and, in our own weird accent, we firmly state, we are like this only.

US senators urge Biden to avoid India sanctions over Russian deal

• India has made a down payment on the S400 systems

• The first set of missile batteries is expected to be begin deployment later this year

• The United States imposed sanctions on Turkey

Reuters | New Delhi

Two US senators have urged President Joe Biden to waive

sanctions against India over its purchase of Russia’s S-400 air defence system, saying such a pu-nitive measure would endanger growing cooperation.

India signed a $5.5 billion deal with Russia in 2018 for five of the surface-to-air missile systems for defence against long-time adver-sary Pakistan and China, with which it is locked in a standoff on their disputed border.

But the proposed transfer has caused friction with the Unit-ed States, which passed a law in 2017 under which any country engaged with Russia’s defence and intelligence sectors could face sanctions.

Republican Senator John Corny and Democrat Senator Mark

Warner wrote a letter to Biden to Tuesday calling for a waiver on the grounds of national security and broader cooperation.

“We believe there is a national security imperative to waiving sanctions,” the senators said in their letter which they issued in a press release.

They said they were concerned the transfer of the Russian sys-tems would trigger sanctions against India under the Coun-tering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), which was enacted to hold Russia accountable for interfering in US elections, cyber hacking and bul-lying Ukraine.

India has made a down pay-ment on the S400 systems and the first set of missile batteries is expected to be begin deployment later this year.

The United States imposed sanctions on Turkey for buy-ing the same equipment last year.

Cornyn and Warner, who are co-chairs of a Senate India Cau-cus, said they shared the admin-istration’s concerns about Russia but they warned of damage to co-operation with India if sanctions were to be imposed.

“We believe that the application of CAATSA sanctions could have a deleterious effect on a strategic partnership with India, while at the same time, not achieve the intended purpose of deterring Russian arms sales,” they wrote.

Modern-day Darwin warns against humanity’s downward slopeReuters | Boston

The Harvard University scientist who has called for setting aside half the

planet as a nature preserve says the slope of human history will always be downward unless there is global cooperation to save exist-ing species.

Edward O. Wilson, a 92-year old naturalist hailed as the Dar-win of the 21st century, said hu-mankind is not too polarised to save the planet, even as some of the world’s biggest polluters drag their feet on cutting carbon emissions and arresting global warming.

He sees preventing catastroph-ic climate change -- the aim of UN climate talks starting in Scotland on Sunday -- and saving biodiver-sity, or the variety of plant and animal species in the world, as two initiatives that must happen together.

“This is the most communal endeavour with a clear definable

goal that humanity has ever had and we need to get the kind of cooperation and ethical harmony and planning in order to make it work,” Wilson told Reuters in an interview outside Boston on Oct. 21.

“Otherwise, the slope of human history will always be downward.”

Today, species are going extinct at a rate not seen in 10 million

years, with around 1 million cur-

rently on the brink. To limit the loss, the United Nations has urged countries to commit to conserv-ing 30% of their land and water – almost double the area currently under some form of protection - by 2030.

The so-called “30 by 30” target is in part inspired by Wilson’s Half-Earth Project. First outlined in 2016, it calls for protecting half the planet’s land and sea so there are enough diverse and well-con-nected ecosystems to reverse the course of species extinction.

“The point is that human na-ture has not changed enough. Our strongest propensities of a social nature tend to disfavour the lives

of most other species,” Wilson said.

Humanity continues to solve problems by burning materials - coal and oil - left behind by an-cient organisms, Wilson said, de-crying the continued exploration and burning of fossil fuels, which amplifies the destruction of bio-diversity.

The Group of 20 rich countries remain divided over phasing out coal and committing to limit glob-al warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial temperatures. G20 nations account for 80% of global emissions, but big polluters such as China and India have also so far dug in their heels.

American biologist E.O. Wilson poses for a portrait in Lexington, Massachusetts

Alongside British naturalist Sir David Attenborough, Wilson is considered the world’s leading authority on natural history and conservation.

KNOW WHAT

He is also the world’s foremost authority on ants, of which he has discovered over 400 species. He has written two Pulitzer Prize-winning books and popularized the term “biodiversity”, leading to a movement to preserve all species on the planet while safeguarding against humankind’s domination of natural resources. He has worked at Harvard for 70 years and still puts in time as a curator in entomology.

Gunman in Idaho shopping mall shooting spree dies of injuries

Reuters

A man who opened fire with a handgun at

a shopping mall in Boise, Idaho, killing two people and injuring several oth-ers, including a police of-ficer, died on Tuesday from wounds sustained during the violence a day earlier, authorities said.

Investigators have yet to determine whether the fatal injuries resulted from an exchange of gunfire with police at the scene, or from a self-inflicted gunshot be-fore he was taken into cus-tody, according to Boise Po-lice Chief Ryan Lee.

The motive for Mon-day’s midday bloodshed re-mained under investigation, Lee told reporters.

The suspect was public-ly identified on Tuesday as 27-year-old Jacob Bergquist, a Boise resident.

A Cambridge college and Paris museum return looted African artefactsReuters | London

A Cambridge University col-lege and Paris museum will

hand back cultural artefacts that were looted from West Africa during the colonial era, setting a precedent that will pressure other institutions to return stolen works.

Jesus College, Cambridge, will return a sculpture of a cockerel taken by British troops in 1897, one of hundreds of Benin Bronzes that were pillaged from the once mighty Kingdom of Benin, locat-ed in what is now Nigeria. They are among Africa’s most cultural-ly significant artefacts.

“This is the right thing to do out of respect for the unique heritage and history of this artefact,” said Sonita Alleyne, Master of Jesus College, ahead of a ceremony to hand over the cockerel to a Ni-gerian delegation. After being looted, the cockerel was given to Jesus College in 1905 by the father of a student. The college announced in 2019 it would re-turn it to Nigeria.

The handover marks a mile-stone in the years-long fight by African countries to recover works pillaged by Western ex-plorers and colonisers, at a time when numerous European in-

stitutions are grappling with the cultural legacies of colonialism.

Some 90% of Africa’s cultural heritage is believed to be in Eu-rope, French art historians esti-

mate. The Quai Branly Museum in Paris alone holds some 70,000 African objects; London’s Brit-ish Museum possesses tens of thousands more. Germany has agreed to start returning Benin Bronzes held in its museums next year. French President Emmanuel Macron in 2017 told Burkinabe students that “African heritage can’t just be in European private collections and museums.”

In a ceremony to be presided over by Macron, the Quai Branly museum will hand over to the republic of Benin 26 artefacts that were stolen from the King-dom of Abomey in 1892. They are

among 5,000 works requested by the West African country.

“We really need this, it’s only the beginning,” said Eusebe Dos-sou, a Benin national visiting the Quai Branly Museum. “We want everything returned.”

Nigeria’s government thanked Jesus College for being a “trail-blazer” and said it looked forward the return of other artefacts by other institutions.

The British Museum has spo-ken about “opportunities for sharing and displaying” items from its collection in Nigeria, but has never said it would transfer ownership.A looted Benin Bronze artefact is pictured in this undated social media image

Thousands of demon-strators from a banned

Pakistani Islamist group clashed with police yester-day, killing and wounding several people from both sides, police and the group said. The clash broke out at a rally of the banned Tehrik-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) on a highway in Sheikhupura district just outside the east-ern city of Lahore, a spokes-man for the Punjab police said yesterday.

“TLP activists used SMG, AK 47 and pistols to target police officials as the result of which several officials were martyred,” the spokes-man said. Thousands of TLP activists have blocked Pakistan’s busiest highway since Friday, demanding the release of their leader and the expulsion of France’s ambassador over the pub-lication by a satirical mag-azine of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad.

Mullah Omar’s son on TV as Taliban polish public imageAFP | Kabul

The son of Taliban founder Mullah Omar appeared in

public for the first time yester-day, as Afghanistan’s hardline rulers try to polish their media image.

The televised event saw Mohammad Yaqoob, Afghan-istan’s new defence minister, appealing to local business-men to invest in hospitals and clinics, signalling the Taliban are emerging from the shad-ows.

As supreme leader of the movement during their first reign of power, Yaqoob’s father Mullah Omar rarely appeared in public, and photos of him were banned.

Even when the one-eyed cleric died in 2013, the news was not made public for more than two years.

“Let’s spend some money here, businessmen brothers have to come here to build hos-pitals, clinics, doctors have to come here too,” Yaqoob said,

at the Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan military hospi-tal in Kabul.

Afghanistan’s health sector has been shattered by war and Afghanistan’s economy has ground to a halt since the return of the Taliban, who remain under international sanctions.

our streets safer by re-cruiting 20,000 more po-lice. We’re delivering on that promise, having now recruited over 11,000, more than half way to our target. We’re getting on with the job of delivering on the people’s priorities.

@BorisJohnson

India remains commit-ted to strengthening

respect for shared val-ues of multilateralism, rules-based internation-al order, international law and sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations. I look forward to participating in the 18th ASEAN-India Sum-mit tomorrow.

EU top court orders Poland to pay 1 million euros a day in rule of law rowReuters | Warsaw

The European Union’s top court said yester-

day it had ordered Poland to pay a penalty of 1 million euros ($1.16 million) per day for not suspending the disciplinary chamber of the Supreme Court.

Poland has been em-broiled in a long-running dispute with Brussels over judicial reforms it says un-dermine the independence of courts. The row heated up in July when the Court of Justice of the European Union ordered the country to suspend the disciplinary chamber.

Several Pakistani police killed by gunfire at rally Reuters | Pakistan, Lahore

Roy praises bowlers for England’s second T20 World Cup winJason Roy’s 61 helps speed England past Bangladesh at T20 World Cup

• Jason Roy’s half century leads eight-wicket win

AFP | Dubai

Opening batsman Jason Roy yesterday credited the England bowlers for

helping set up a second succes-sive victory at the Twenty20 World Cup with an eight-wicket drubbing of Bangladesh.

Roy smashed 61 off 38 balls as England romped to their victory target of 125 in 14.1 overs in the Super 12 clash in Abu Dhabi.

He reached his seventh T20 half-century with a straight six in his 50th match during a part-nership of 73 with Dawid Ma-lan, who made an unbeaten 28.

“We bowled extremely well. Take nothing away from the bowlers,” Roy told reporters after his man of the match per-formance.

“We took our catches and fielded and bowled really well. We got off to a great start with the bats and then just capital-ised on a lower total.”

England left-arm quick Tymal Mills took three wickets and combined with spinners Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone to re-strict Bangladesh to 124-9 in the two nations’ first ever meeting in the format.

Eoin Morgan’s England, the world’s number one-ranked T20 team, top Group 1 with two big wins after a six-wicket thrashing of holders West In-dies in their tournament opener.

Roy said England’s loss to Bangladesh in the 2015 50-over World Cup knocked them out

of that tournament but helped build a strong bond between the players and change their brand of cricket.

“Our camp has been together since 2015 like,” he said. “We’ve created bonds outside of cricket and on the field, which I think plays a huge part in travelling the world and playing good cricket.”

“We understand our roles in the team as individuals and as teammates.”

Bangladesh, who lost their opening Super 12 match to Sri

Lanka, lost regular wickets after electing to bat first.

Spin attack After giving away 10 runs in

the opening over, Moeen hit back and was on a hat-trick in his second over, only to be de-nied by Mushfiqur Rahim, who top-scored with 29.

Moeen, an off-spinner, had Liton Das caught at deep square leg for nine and then sent Mo-hammad Naim trudging back to the pavilion for five.

Bangladesh found them-selves in trouble at 26-3 when Chris Woakes claimed Shakib Al Hasan’s key scalp with Adil Rashid taking a good catch run-ning backwards. Shakib fell for four.

Jose Torres arrives in Russia earlier than scheduled, sets up camp in DagestanTDT | Manama

Jose “Shorty” Torres would no longer deal with the dif-

ficulties to acclimatize himself to the harsh weather condition of Russia during fight week as the highly-touted American spitfire chose to wrap up his training camp in Dagestan.

Torres is set to face Russian powerhouse Ali “The King Puncher” Bagautinov in the last semi final encounter of the Flyweight World Title Tour-nament, which will serve as the headliner of BRAVE CF 55 in association with PRO FC set for November 6 in the beau-tiful city of Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

The 29-year-old native of Chicago, Illinois arrived in Dagestan on October 13 and was welcomed by BRAVE CF Super Lightweight World Champion and KHK MMA Head Coach Eldar Eldarov.

Knowing what’s at stake in his upcoming bout, Torres immediately went to work with the athletes training un-der Eldarov’s tutelage at the world-class KHK Dagestan facility.

Torres, who captured belts in both the flyweight and bantamweight divisions of a North American promotion, seeks to become the first-ev-er BRAVE CF Flyweight World Champion. His ambitions

however extend beyond a mere title, as Shorty recently revealed that he isn’t only go-ing for one BRAVE CF title, but two.

To move an inch closer to that moment of glory and se-curing his first BRAVE CF title, “Shorty” has to overcome odds against a hometown hero in Bagautinov on November 6.

If he prevails, Torres will earn a seat in the tourney finals to square off Velimurad Alkh-asov at a yet-to-be-announced future event.

BRAVE CF 55 will be broad-casted live and free on BRAVE CF TV ( bravecftv.com) at 1:00PM GMT.

Sam Patterson fixes sights on highlight-reel finish at BRAVE CF 55TDT | Manama

A decisive finish inside the mixed martial arts cage

has always been at the top of Sam “The Future” Patterson’s priority list ever since he kick started his professional career in 2017, but his streak of scin-tillating stoppages came to an end when he faced a stiff test most recently.

The 25-year-old spitfire from Walford, England went the distance with Ylies Djir-oun in a classic back-and-forth encounter at BRAVE CF 51 this past June, but he managed to prevail over his opponent and eke out a three-round unani-mous decision.

Though his performance against Djiroun allowed him to extend his winning streak to six fights, Patterson seeks to win over the fans again by clinching a victory either via knockout or submission when he returns to action on November 6.

Patterson is penciled to duke it out with hometown favorite Kamil Magomedov at the highly-anticipated BRAVE CF 55, which emanates from the beautiful Russian city of Ros-tov-on-Don.

“The finish, I’m coming to finish. I’m not a decision fight-er. I always look for the finish,” he stated.

“The Future” is ascending up the organization’s lightweight ranks, but in order for him to reach the next level, he must defeat a tough opponent in Ma-gomedov—who possesses a 14-1 slate and has not tasted defeat since 2017.

“I wasn’t expecting some-one who will have a similar record of mine. It had to be at

least someone with double the amount of wins that I have. I was expecting that. Kamil is a

high-level opponent,” Patterson said of Magomedov.

Despite the vast difference in terms of competitive expe-rience, Patterson believes that his physical attributes will play a pivotal factor in his three-round cage encounter against Mogomedov.

“If I go in there and do what I do, it doesn’t really matter what everyone does and whoever is in front of me,” he stressed. “My height, range, and how I use it is my advantage”

“I will go in there, beat him and double the number of wins I’ve got.

BRAVE CF 55 will be head-lined by a Flyweight Tourna-ment semi-finals clash between Jose “Shorty” Torres and Ali “Puncher King” Bagautinov in Rostov-On-Don, Russia in asso-ciation with PRO FC on Novem-ber 6th and will be broadcasted live at 1:00PM GMT on BRAVE CF TV (bravecftv.com)
