When we first started writing this in September of 2019, if someone had told me how far this project would come, I would’ve thought they were insane. When we first started writing this, it was merely a fun creative outlet. Something for us to experiment on. We always had the thought that taking this project and actually performing it would be amazing, but we didn’t think it would be possible for us, a group of 9th graders at Olympus Jr. High.

Flash forward 2 years. After countless hours writing and revising songs and scenes, several read-throughs and recording sessions, and after reaching out to the original Heartless’ author, Marissa Meyer, we finally felt ready to perform our script. We cast our show and after some complications finding a venue to perform, Centerpoint Theatre became available to us and we started rehearsals. It’s been a tough process but so worth it. Ironically, “Heartless” is a show full of heart. The people working on this show have been a joy to work with and have made this experience worthwhile.

To everyone who has worked on the show, everyone working at Centerpoint Theatre, Marissa Meyer, and everyone else who has supported us through this process, I just want to say thank you. Thank you so much for helping us bring this show to life. And to my amazing cast, crew, and production team, I am so incredibly proud of you all.

When we first sat down in early 2019 to talk about Heartless, a project of this size was the furthest thing from what I imagined it becoming, but I’m so grateful I was wrong. Working on this show has been a once in a lifetime experience. Having the opportunity to see it from start to finish and being able to bring our vision to life on stage has been incredible. I’m immensely grateful for all the people who have helped us bring this dream to life, Marissa Meyer, Centerpoint Legacy Theater, and all the wonderful parents who’ve supported us. I’d like to also make a special thank you to the cast and crew who have stuck with us over the past few years and gone through seven hour zoom calls, countless revisions, and given up their time and energy for our many rehearsals. This wouldn’t have been possible without you all! I want to thank my parents who supported me and the show from the beginning and have always supported my love of the arts. I’d like to send a huge thank you to my fellow production team members, you’ve been a joy to work with, there’s no other team I’d rather do this with!

Isabel WilsonOver the past couple of weeks I’ve started to realize just how much of a miracle this production is. I still feel like that 9th grade girl sitting in her best friend’s room, organizing a bunch of papers with scribbled out lyrics. It seems so unlikely that the dreams of a couple high school freshmen could become a reality. For so long, the materialization of Heartless: The Musical was just that to many of us, a dream. It was a passion project that many of us assumed

D I R EC TO R ’S N OT ES

wouldn’t be performed to more than an audience of stuffed animals in our bedrooms. I don’t think the kids we were, fantasizing about collaborating with Marissa Meyer and spending time blocking scenes in our living rooms, could’ve ever imagined getting this much support for our project. I’m so glad it did. Thank you for keeping us going, your excitement gave us the motivation we needed to make this project the best it could be.

It hasn’t been easy. We’ve put so much work into this production through countless hours of writing, composing, revising, rehearsing, and recording. This wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our dedicated cast and crew and the support of our families and friends along the way. These past two years have been unbelievably hard, but I’m happy to say that all that work has paid off in the best way possible. I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished as a team. It’s not perfect, but it’s ours and I firmly believe that all of our struggles, every pothole we’ve hit in the road, and all of the nights spent stressfully crying has been, sincerely and completely, worth it.

Thank you to all the musicians who have sacrificed their time to record. Thank you to our Stage Manager, Jax Jessop, and our Executive Producer, Eleanor Boam; without both of these incredible human beings this project would’ve derailed long ago. Thank you to Marissa Meyer, and everyone who has believed in this project since the beginning. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy Heartless: The Musical! Ivy Robbins

ACT 1

The show begins with Hatta, the Mad Hatter of Wonderland, having a tea party with a young girl named Alice. Alice reminds Hatta of the Queen of Hearts, and Hatta begins to reminisce, telling Alice about how they first came to know the Queen.

Years before, Catherine Pinkerton prepare’s for one of the King of Heart’s balls by baking lemon tarts. Mary Ann rushes to help Catherine clean up and prepare for a ball before the Marchioness, Catherine’s mother, realizes she is not ready. Catherine is given a large red dress to wear to the ball by her mother (To Be Me).

Catherine arrives at the King’s black and white ball, dressed in red, and is invited by the King to dance. As he steps away from Catherine to try her lemon tarts, the King’s new joker arrives at the ball and entertains the crowd (Impossibilities). After the performance, Catherine meets Peter Peter, a pumpkin farmer turned aristocrat, accompanied by his wife, Lady Peter. Mary Ann informs Catherine that the King plans to propose to her, and then creates a distraction while Catherine flees from the ballroom.

Catherine faints in the royal garden and is woken by Jest, the court joker, who is accompanied by Raven. Jest calls a carriage to take Catherine home (Wondering). Catherine returns home to learn that the Jabberwock, a winged mythical beast, had attacked the ball after she left.

WARNING: THIS SHOW UTILIZES STROBE LIGHTS & THEATER HAZE THAT MAY AFFECT PEOPLE WITH SENSITIVITIES.

Catherine goes to the palace to play croquet with the aristocracy (Croquet in the Garden). Jest convinces the King that he should court the girl he plans to marry before proposing to her.

That night, Jest appears outside Catherine’s window. He invites her to a tea party at Hatta’s Marvelous Millinery, where Catherine meets Hatta who expects the guests at the party to take turns entertaining them (Hatta’s Marvelous Millinery). The Turtle and Jest both perform, and Catherine insists that she wants to perform as well. The talent she displays is her baking, giving her new friends the rose macarons she had made. The Jabberwock attacks the party, and they flee to the crossroads. The Lion dies to give the others a chance to escape.

Jest walks Catherine home as they discuss her love of baking and the upcoming Rock Turtle Cove festival. Jest tells her about his life as a rook for the White Queen in the land of Chess. Mary Ann comes in just as Catherine climbs in her bedroom window, and tells Mary Ann about the tea party. Meanwhile, Jest returns to the hat shop, and Hatta and Raven chastise him for starting to fall in love with Cath. Jest insists he isn’t in love (No Way).

The King courts Catherine by sending her gifts and bad poetry, relying on Jest to help him compose the sappy love writing (The Letter).

Catherine and Jest escape the bustle of the festival. Jest compliments Catherine on her new hat. Catherine asks him about his mission, and he is reluctant to share, but tells her

SY N O P S I S

about himself and the war in Chess (Just Jest). They sneak a dance together. Jest asks if he would ever be with her, and she says she would, but she can’t.

Catherine goes to the baking contest. The Turtle eats her pumpkin cake and turns into a Mock Turtle.

ACT 2

Catherine asks her parents for permission to use her dowry to open a bakery, but they refuse. Her mother tells her to drop the idea or he will fire Mary Ann (Wondering/Just Jest Reprise).

The King invites Catherine to the theater. The Jabberwock attacks and Catherine pulls the Vorpal Sword from Jest’s magic hat. When the Jabberwock sees the sword, it flies away. Catherine’s ankle is injured during the attack.

Jest takes Catherine to the treacle well to be healed (Sister Song Part 1). He tells her about the Sisters who live in the treacle well, of the war in Chess, and of his mission to steal her heart and end the war. Jest tells her that things have changed since he met her and they pledge their hearts to one another (Foolish). When Catherine arrives home the King is at her house and her parents are furious. They all believe Jest kidnapped her. The King tries to arrest Jest, but he escapes.

Jest, Hatta, Raven, and Catherine go to the treacle well, and the sisters open the well for them (Sister Song Part 2). The sisters

SY N O P S I S

share a prophecy, showing a picture in which Catherine is the Queen of Hearts, Hatta has gone mad, Raven is in his executioner form holding a bloody ax, and Jest has been beheaded. The Sisters tell the group they can avoid this fate by not going through any doors.

They enter the maze and walk for a long time (Through the Looking Glass). Eventually they end up back in the Crossroads, which is full of doors. Catherine hears Mary Ann calling for help, and goes through a door to save her, followed by Hatta, Raven, and Jest.

Mary Ann tells Catherine that the Jabberwock is Peter’s wife. Peter knocks Catherine down and Jest comes to her rescue. Peter blames Hatta for bringing the pumpkin seeds that changed his wife. Catherine kills the Jabberwock and Peter kills Jest in revenge (Break). The Sisters come to her and offer her a chance to get vengeance on Peter in exchange for her heart. Catherine agrees.

On the day of the wedding, Catherine goes to visit Hatta. She finds Hatta has gone completely mad, and they explain the story of the magic pumpkin seeds and their inevitable fate (Mad Yet).

On the day of the wedding, the Sisters retrieve their prize and deliver Peter in Exchange for Cath’s heart. Catherine convicts Peter for the murder of Jest. Raven transforms into the executioner and Catherine calls for Peter’s beheading (Heartless/Finale).

CAST B I O G RA P H I ES

ELLIE ENGLAND (Cath)Ellie is beyond THRILLED to be a part of this production and play a character she’s always loved! She is 17 years old and loves all things theater! Some past credits include Descendants at Hale Center Theater Orem (Ensemble), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Centerstage Theater (Martha), Frozen at Olympus Jr

High School (Anna), and more! Ellie would like to thank her fellow cast members for being the most wonderful cast family she could have asked for, and her parents who support her no matter what!

GEORGE MARRIOTT (Jest)George is a Junior from Olympus High School and is so excited to be a part of Heartless. His past acting experiences include acting as Gideon in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, along with being in the ensemble for High School Musical and Little Shop of Horrors. This is his 9th production he’s been a part of. When he’s not

performing, you can find George playing the piano, singing all sorts of music, and hanging out with friends. He hopes that everyone has an impossibly good time watching the show!

ELEANOR BOAM (Hatta)Eleanor never thought she would be here. Three years ago she thought this would be a fun project with her friends, and now it’s come so far. She wants to thank everyone at Centerpoint, especially Danny Inkley and her mother Tammis Boam, who made this dream a reality for her and her friends, and the Centerpoint

Academy for the theatrical opportunities they’ve given her in the past that made her prepared to fill this role (highlights include Kathrine in Freaky Friday and Papa Ge in Once on This Island). When not doing theater, Eleanor enjoys playing video games, reading horror novels, playing dungeons and dragons, and being a reckless teenager. Shout out to Mountain Dew for being her sole source of energy during this production. Apologies to her teachers for the work she blatantly ignored in their various classes.

CAST B I O G RA P H I ES

JACK LEISHMAN (Raven)Jack is ecstatic to be performing in Heartless with White Rose Productions. Other shows they have been in include Holiday Inn, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Little Shop of Horrors with Olympus Theatre Department, as well as Cinderella with the Bulldog Theatre Department as the Earl of Cavendish.

Outside of the theatre, Jack enjoys writing, reading, and spending time with friends. Their writing and poetry can be found on Instagram @thesingerofsouls. They are floored at how far this show has come, seeing it transform from a small side project to a widely known production. They extend their appreciation to their supportive parents, their amazing producers and cast mates who put so much hard work into this show, and to the thousands of people who supported Heartless in any way they could.

AVA HENDRICKSON (Mary Ann)Ava Hendrickson is 16 years old. She loves to sing and to perform, and so this opportunity to do both in a company comprised of good friends, was a no-brainer. Outside of singing, Ava likes to spend time with her family, as well as draw, read, and watch her favorite TV shows (her favorite show is

currently Alias). Some of her favorite shows she’s had the opportunity to be a part of include Little Shop of Horrors (ensemble), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Milly), Cinderella (ensemble), Frozen (young Elsa/Elsa understudy), Shakespeare’s The Tempest (Ariel), Macbeth (Witch 1), Julius Caesar (Portia), Midsummer Night’s Dream (Peasblossom). She is thrilled to be able to add Heartless to the list!

ZACK ALLRED (King of Hearts)Zack is no stranger to playing interesting characters, but this one by far takes the cake (or I guess macaron). He had previously been in shows like the Secret Garden as Colin and Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility at Parker Theatre and Olympus High School. Zack is so excited to be a part of the amazing cast and would like

to thank the entire production team for making it such a fun show. Now let’s just cross our fingers that this bozo can get a couple of laughs!

CAST B I O G RA P H I ES

PYPER BARLOW (Alice, Lady Peter)Pyper Barlow is thrilled to be Alice and Lady Peter in Heartless! Pyper has loved being part of this project and getting closer to the cast. She has enjoyed the challenge of being in the show and growing as an actor. She would like to thank the directors for all their efforts and her family for their constant support.

She would also like to thank Ivy for supporting her and convincing her to be part of Heartless.

LEVI JANKE (Peter Peter)Levi Janke, playing Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater, could not have asked for a more suiting (heh) role: red hair, tall, grumpy. Ever since his first productions in Elementary School, Levi has given his heart (hehe) to each and every production. His favorite roles have been a dancer in Holiday Inn, Jean-Michel in Cinderella,

and, of course, Peter Peter.

RACHEL JEWELL (Marchioness)Rachel is thrilled to be in such an incredible production! She loves performing but especially playing unlikeable characters. This is actually the third time she’s played Ellie’s mom in a musical. She remembers sitting in math class when Isabel told her for the first time about this musical she and her

friends were writing. Rachel never believed it would turn into something so unbelievable! She would like to thank each and every one of her dedicated directors and cast-mates for all of the work they’ve put in and most especially for remaining such kind and supportive people while dealing with all of the stress of producing a musical. She’d also like to thank Marissa Meyer for allowing them to do this production and for writing some of her favorite books in the world! She sends hugs and kisses to all the audience and politely asks tech director Caleb to give back her amazing technicolored dream coat.

CAST B I O G RA P H I ES

JAX JESSOP (Marquess, Lion)Jax has been in twelve shows since he was in the fourth grade, starting with Alice in Wonderland and now Heartless. He has been in love with theatre ever since he stepped onstage and he is so grateful for the people who have helped him along that. He loves that he got the most amazing, once-in-lifetime opportunity to

be the stage manager for this once-in-lifetime production! This is his first time being stage manager and he has found that he loves producing shows as much as he loves performing onstage. He has had a wonderful time getting to grow closer together with this cast family that has supported each through the good and the bad. He wants to give special thanks to his former director Zac Zumbrunnen, his vocal coach Kathie McMillen and a huge thank you to his family for supporting him every step of the way!

KAI KUPUKA’A (Duke Of Tuskany) Kai is an average guy taking part in a very extraordinary show. He has performed in many conventional shows at his highschool such as Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey two) and Holiday Inn (dancer), but nothing as cool as this. Being only a sophomore, Kai hopes to do his best to do justice for the masterpiece

that is Heartless the Musical! He would also like to thank Jax Jessop and Ivy Robbins for rides to wherever he needs to be due to the mutual distrust Kai has with cars! :)

SARAH CUNDICK (Margaret Mearle) Sarah is delighted to be a part of this incredible production! She has participated in school and community theater since she was nine, and she’s full plumped with satisfaction to be playing the righteous and admirable Margaret Mearle. She would like to thank the entire production team for the countless

hours of work they have put into making this show a reality, and the cast members for creating a fun and only slightly unhinged cast family. The moral of that is, of course, that the nest of pelicans learns to climb trees together.

CAST B I O G RA P H I ES

NEVYN BROWN (Butler, Turtle)Nevyn is extremely excited that he gets to be part of the amazing original cast of Heartless with the role of Turtle! He’s been in several shows recently including Frozen Jr. (the Duke of Weselton), Little Shop of Horrors (ensemble), Holiday Inn (dancer), and Sense and Sensibility (John Dashwood). He is currently Improv

Captain at his school, and he enjoys studying astronomy and playing music with his rock band, Migration to Nowhere. He wants to give a shout-out to his family, to the amazing directors/producers, and to his freaking incredible cast!

KENNY HOWICK (White Rabbit, March Hare)Sup, homies! My name is Kenny and I play the White Rabbit and March Hare! I use they/them pronouns, and I’m fifteen. I cosplay, write, and have a Monster Energy with me at all times. I say “your mom” after every sentence, more on impulse than anything else. I play an assortment of video games, and work on

makeup and wigs for the show!

HANNAH ALFANDRE (Countess Wontuthry)Hannah Alfandre is so incredibly excited to be in the first ever production of Heartless! She loves acting, and has been involved in drama programs since elementary school. She wants to thank her supportive family, incredibly amazing and incredibly hectic cast, and her bird Ollie- who always cheers her up after a long day

by whistling some classic 80s songs. Hannah is so excited to share the musical production of one of her favorite books with the fellow fans, and hopes that everyone in the audience is able to enjoy the magic of Wonderland as much as she has!

CAST B I O G RA P H I ES

ETHAN FILLMORE (Jack the Knave)Ethan is ecstatic to participate in Heartless, especially after all the work the ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE production has put into it. Ethan’s hobbies include music, drawing, and participating in productions much like heartless. They are currently attending Olympus High School.

BRYNN ASHTON (Elsie)Brynn Ashton is a 6th grader at Olympus Jr High. She enjoys playing Tennis, hanging out with friends and shopping. She plays the guitar, ukulele, and piano. She is making her acting debut at Centerpoint.

KENSIE BISHOP (Tillie)Kensie is excited to be in Heartless, she loves performing and this has been her most fun show yet, she can’t wait to creep everybody out!

VIVIAN WILSON (Lacie)Vivian Wilson is 12 years old. Vivian enjoys shopping, crafting, singing, hanging out with friends. She plays ukulele and has been doing voice lessons for the past 2 years. She would like to thank her parents, her voice teacher, her fantastic cast, the wonderful Heartless Production Team, Marissa Meyer, Center Point Legacy

Theater, and Goldfish for getting her through every rehearsal.

ISABEL WILSON (Co-Director, costumer, writer)Isabel is ecstatic to be a part of this show! She’s very grateful for the opportunity to try her hand at directing and costuming and for the fantastic team she’s been able to work with. When she isn’t sucked into something Heartless related, Isabel can be found reading, drawing, or singing. She’d like to thank

Marissa Meyer, Centerpoint Legacy Theater, her parents, her voice teacher, and the amazing cast!

HEIDI THOMAS (Co-Director, set/props director, writer, lyricist) Heidi Thomas has been involved in theatre for most of her life, from being in the ensemble of A Christmas Carol in 3rd grade to now co-directing/writing Heartless. This is her first time as a writer and director, but she has loved working on this show and hopes to

do more like it in the future! There are too many people Heidi would like to thank for their help throughout this endeavor, but in particular she’d like to thank her vocal teacher Sarah Watts, and her family for always supporting her!

IVY ROBBINS (Composer, Music Director, Lyricist, and Writer) After a decade of dancing and fourteen years of playing the violin and viola, Ivy’s move into composing music for theatre is a perfect fit. Ivy Robbins started competing in dance at age 9, earning many High Point, 1st Place, and Judges Choice awards throughout

the years. Though she has been onstage as Puck in A Midsummer Nights’ Dream and in the ensemble for Cinderella, she much prefers to be behind the scenes. She played viola in the pit for Scarlet Pimpernel and now debuts her musical composition and orchestration in Heartless: The Musical! Her experience with dance and instrumental music has paved the way for her to compose music. This musical has given her the experience of hiring musicians, recording and mixing digital tracks, and teaching an ensemble. She is excited and grateful that her music is coming to the stage, and hopes that you enjoy this project that has been several years in the making. Enjoy the show!

grade, starting with Alice in Wonderland and now Heartless. He has been in love with theatre ever since he stepped onstage and he is so grateful for the people who have helped him along that. He loves that he got the most amazing, once-in-lifetime opportunity to be the stage manager for this once-in-lifetime production! This is his first time being stage manager and he has found that he loves producing shows as much as he loves performing onstage. He wants to give special thanks to his former director Zac Zumbrunnen, his vocal coach Kathie McMillen and a huge thank you to his family for supporting him every step of the way!

CALEB ROBISON (Technical Director)Caleb is honored to be part of this production. He has often done shows and plays on the acting side of show business. This is his first time being on the tech side of doing theater and has found it quite enjoyable. Respect to the production team and actors for all their hard work!

GRACE EYERING (Choreographer)Grace has had so much fun working on the choreography for this show. She has had fun thinking of ideas, that would really fit the type of dances that would be in this story. She loves art and reading, and is always creating something new. She is so excited to see the show when it’s all put together.
