Indy’s White River State Park attractionsBy BARBARA BARBIERI

This time of year just might be the right time to visit White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis. On a recent visit to the area we found it nearly crowd-less, both inside the museums and in the outside park (river and canal areas).

A Visitor’s Center offers maps as well as a gift shop. Nearby are oppor-tunities for rentals for bikes and seg-ways to explore the paths beside the White River and canal and bikes to explore the paths.

There are several museums open for visitors, using COVID protocols and include:

Indiana State Museum& IMAX Theater

This museum has a variety of exhibits including seasonal ones. (Paintings in the Hoosier Salon will be viewable through Oct. 24th.)

Museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is $17 adults, $16 seniors, $12 students and free to those 3 and younger. Gift shop offers Indiana items and the cafe offers beverages and sandwiches.

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian & Western Art

This museum is a partner of The Smithsonian and has one of the most

renowned collections in the world of both Native American and Western art, culture and history.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $15 adults, $12 seniors, $6 students and free to those under age 4. Gift shop offers Indian items and cafe offers a limited menu.

experience features alligators and croc-odiles. The botanical garden is part of the zoo site Parking is $8 per car.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is $22.75 adults $20 seniors and $18.75 students. The Cafe on the Commons is open when the zoo is and the Pavil-ion Cafe is open on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
