interventions. The review document was submitted to MOA and National Export Coordination Committee for appropriate action.

Carried out detailed meat and live animal export value chain analysis in major livestock markets and identified major opportunities that could be harnessed to develop the meat and livestock export value chain and bottle necks hindering the export performance of the Ethiopian meat industry. These studies were published in two big research reports by ILRI and EIAR and distributed to all stakeholders including the GOE serving as a useful resource in developing strategy for government support to the meat industry.

ILRI scientists.

Assessed value chains for malt barley in Arsi in order to improve the performance of Assela Malt Factory that is located at Assela.

Assessed marketing systems for malt barley in Arsi in order to improve malt barley marketing in the area and increase supply of malt barley grain to Assela Malt Factory. This is ultimately to expand market opportunity for malt barley producers in Arsi zone.

Since there was no clear understanding about the comparative advantage of Ethiopia in production of Malt Barley, Asela Malt Factory was importing malt barley grain from abroad. Taking this into account, he did a cost benefit analysis using Policy Analysis Matrix and showed the comparative advantage of Ethiopia in production of malt barley.
