Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. an-nounced on 19th October 2017 that Mr. Toichi Ishiyama will be succeeding Mr. Katsuto Hayashi as its Managing Di-

rector and Chief Executive Officer effec-tive 1st November 2017. He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited.

The career of Mr. Ishiyama, 48, spans 25 years in Honda in various roles in Ja-pan, USA, Thailand, China and Pakistan.

He believes the strategy put in place by Mr. Hayashi will see Honda Malaysia through to another achievement year, reaching the target of 100,000 units in sales.

During his tenure in Malaysia, Mr. Hayashi successfully strengthened Honda Malaysia’s position as the No.1 in Non-National segment and No.2 in overall TIV and in the process, also attained No.1 position in terms of market share among Honda automobile operations worldwide in some of those months. The company

achieved the highest local market share in history in March 2017, at 20.5%. Honda Malaysia recorded 100,000 sales units in the fiscal year of April 2016 to March 2017 as well celebrated its historical 600,000th production unit under his watch. Mr. Hayashi who led Honda Malaysia for one and a half years, will be taking on a new role as the General Manager, Overseas Op-eration Division (Americas), Regional Op-eration (North America) in Honda Motor Co., Ltd. in Japan. n

ISUzU Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (IMSB) an-nounced on 26th October 2017 the ap-pointment of Mr. Koji Nakamura as its new Chief Executive Officer.

“Mr. Koji Nakamura has years of ex-tensive experience, which include strate-gic planning, sales and operations, in ad-dition to helming diverse leadership roles in the competitive automotive industry. I am delighted that I will be passing over the reins to someone with such excellent aptitude, high optimism and fresh per-spective to lead this organisation,” said outgoing CEO Mr. Kenji Matsuoka.

Mr. Matsuoka was the CEO since 2015. During his term, Isuzu Malaysia saw great improvements, from previously being ranked at No. 7, to No. 6 in Malay-sia’s top automotive company by volume. Under his direction, Isuzu successfully maintained its position as the No. 1 pre-ferred truck brand in Malaysia. The Isuzu D-Max’s market share also saw a positive improvement from 10.9% to 14.7% in the past year.

“There are always opportunities to grow the business in any economic cli-mate. I believe that my team is capable in realising our vision and subsequent growth in the coming years. My task at

VOLKSwAGEN Passenger Cars Malay-sia (VPCM) made industry history on 12th December 2017 when all 12 units of the limited edition Beetle for sale on Lazada Malaysia were sold out in just 20 minutes.  with a retail price of only RM112,112.00 (excl. Reg. and Ins.) each, the first Beetle was snapped up just 26 seconds after midnight.  To lock down their unit, customers only had to pur-chase an exclusive welcome Kit on La-zada at RM5,000.00 which also doubled as a pre-payment booking fee.

VPCM had collaborated with La-zada to offer Malaysians limited-edition

Volkswagen Beetles on Lazada’s Online Revolution mega-sale from 12th to 14th of December 2017.  Two limited edition designs were available, the “Herbie 53” in Pure white and white Silver, and the “Hot Bug” in Tornado Red.

Mr. Erik winter, Managing Director of VPCM said, “we are delighted to have re-ally pushed boundaries and made history with this collaboration – to be able to sell 12 cars within such a short period of time is amazing.

This truly is a testament of how re-ceptive Malaysians are when it comes to online purchasing.” n

PROTON said it managed to stabilise its sales numbers for 2017 with an overall sales of 70,991 units of cars in 2017, compared to the 72,291 units sold in the previous year. Retail sales increased 2.5% to 68,184 units in 2017 from 66,513 units in 2016. A healthy growth was seen from the Central, South, East Coast regions and East Malaysia, each recorded between 1% to 10% increases in units of cars sold. The overall number was affected by poorer fleet sales with 2,807 units sold in 2017 due to lower taxi orders. The Saga, Persona and Ertiga make up 80% of total Proton car sales for 2017. Its best-selling car, the Saga registered steady sales at above 30,000 units in 2017. The Persona registered a 27% increase with 19,510 units sold compared to 15,390 units last year. The Ertiga also gained healthy acceptance in the market with 6,091 units sold in 2017.

“Part of the reasons that sales of our cars stabilised in 2017 is due to the aggressive quality improvement exercise done internally. Our counterpart from Geely Auto performed a stringent quality audit of our cars and within 3 months, we were able to improve our quality points threefold. The audit was measured using a stringent system, which is aligned to the international standard of Volvo cars, as practiced by Geely. As we also already know, Proton cars have proven that they are durable and reliable, having gone through rigorous testing when we participated in the Sepang 1,000km endurance race in November 2017 and won Overall Champion. All these can only be achieved with the strong teamwork between the management team and employees,” said En. Abdul Rashid Musa, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, PROTON. n
