Some of the festivalsof India arecelebrated with a lot

of enthusiasm, religiousness and gaiety. The festival of Holi is onesuch occasion when both theyoung and the old like toplay and celebrate with allcolours symbolizing thespirit of all phases in life.

Even the flora and fauna,at Holi time, paint exoticscenes with an upliftingambience, variety ofcolourful new leaves on thetrees and bushes, and littleshining, colourful sparrowssinging with joy as they flyfrom one branch of tree toanother which have shed oldleaves and wear now look asthough they are dressed innew attire! Some of thetrees are laden with red andwhite ‘teshu’ flowerswhose colours aregenerally used by thevillage folk in playing ‘holi’.

Before playing Holi withcolours, there are a few

other rituals carried out.People sing songs, burn biglogs of wood whichsymbolize burning of‘Holika (evil)’ and thencelebrate with colours andsharing of sweets. All thefestivals in their presentstyle were initiated at thebeginning of the CopperAge and would continueuntil complete worldtransformation from IronAge (Kaliyug) into GoldenAge (Satyug) takes place;from then on the new ageof deities would beginwith very sattvikcelebrations.

Playing Holi with theHoliest spiritual Parents-cum-Khuda Dost begins atthe most auspicious timeof Confluence Age, whosePlatinum Jubilee Year isbeing celebrated for overa year now. Thesecelebrations began indifferent parts of Bharatand Nepal in early 2011 andwould continue during the

year 2012 AD. Phenomenalevents have taken place inthe main cities of Bharat. The launching took placewith a week of importantprogrammes in Delhi(October 2011), followedby events in all the StateCapitals. Message of B.K.Shivani, main star of‘Awakening with BrahmaKumaris’, was well-received by one and allduring most of the megaevents where sheaddressed and interactedwith the audience, especially highly busyprofessionals. Hersessions have broughtmuch happiness and peaceto those who have beenbenefitting from the TVprogrammes on Aastha,Doordarshan etc., andPlatinum Jubilee events.

On 5th March, we had awonderful Holi Festivalcelebration at Shantivanwhen nearly 18,000 BK

Students from Bharat, including 950 from 65other countries. gathered inDiamond Hall to hear andexperience elevatedversions of AvyaktBapDada!

After blessings through‘drishti’, we received anempowering messagehighlighting our greatfortune with words ofGodly wisdom. Emphasiswas given to the value oftime during the whole ofConfluence Age; since onesecond is equal to oneyear; everyone’s attentionwas drawn to remainingfocused and steadfast ondeep and subtle effortsthrough powerful

meditation and imbibing ofspiritual knowledge.

Just imagine howbeautiful and importantwas the discourse fromthe Supreme Teacher aboutthe significance ofcelebrating Holi with theHoliest-of-Holy GodFather… The invaluableversions touchedeveryone’s heart andinspired us (those listeningdirectly and subtly) tofollow Baba’s shrimat, andbecome determined andstrong to serve through ourspiritual vibrations.

We would like to sharewith you some jewels fromthese ‘Holy-Holi’ versionswhich are as below:

“God sees the lines offortune of each child: theline of the sparkling star onthe forehead, the line oflove and power in the eyes, the line of the smile on thelips and the line ofmultimillions at every stepon the feet. All of you arealso happy to see the lines

“Sorrow and peacelessness are increasing everywhere now. Therefore, reveal

your world-benefactor form. Increase service through the mind. Become

double holy (pure) with the colour of God’s company”

(Divine Message of 5 March 2012 in essence)

of your fortune, are younot? In your heart, you aresinging the song, ‘Wah myfortune!’

“Seeing your fortune, always remain just as happyas you are now. Only now,at the confluence age, youreceive this fortune. Everymoment of the confluence

age has great value. Eachmoment of the confluenceage becomes imperishablebecause every moment isconnected with 21 births. So check: If one moment iswasted, it is not a matter ofjust one birth, but it is amatter of 21 births, and thisis why your attention is

The World Renewal, March 20126

drawn from time to time.Remember the importanceof the confluence age atevery moment.

“Each child is to becomea double king: a master ofthe self at the present timeand a ruler of the world inthe future. God sees therecord of every child daily. Each one of you must knowthis in your heart. You havebecome masters of thekingdom, but, at present, you only have self-sovereignty. Self-sovereignty means that youare able to keep your mind, intellect and sanskars underyour control. They shouldstay under your control asand when you want. Forinstance, the physicallimbs, the hands and feetstay under your control. Inthe same way, you shouldhave ruling power andcontrolling power overyour mind, intellect andsanskars.

“According to this time, the self-respect of each oneof you is that of a world-benefactor. According tothe time, it is time for eachone of you children toreveal your world-

benefactor form. Sorrowand peacelessness areincreasing everywhere.Your brothers, your sisters, your family, are allexperiencing sorrow, so doyou not feel mercy foryour family? Together withself-service, also do worldservice in the same way thatyou are doing servicethrough words very wellwith a lot of splendour atpresent.

“Service through themind is now also neededbecause you have tobecome world-benefactorsin all ways. Service throughthoughts, words and deeds, that is, through your faceand activity - all three typesof service are nownecessary. Through thesubtle vibrations of themind, you have to becomea support for souls in theirsorrow and peacelessness. Now, at the confluenceage, you can receive asmuch co-operation as youwant from the Father.According to your ownduties, just as you havefixed the times for trafficcontrol, in the same way, each one of you should also

fix a time for doing servicethrough the mind. Whensorrow increases, everyone’s attention at thattime will be on thatupheaval, but it is now timefor serving through themind and this is why all ofyou children have to makeyour world-benefactorform emerge. If your mindis busy, waste will then beeliminated.

“Your Holi is so differentfrom the Holi of the peopleof the world. Youconstantly stay in happinesswith enthusiasm and sothey began to celebrate thatas a festival. You too havecoloured your lives, butwhat is your colour? Thecolour that all of you haveis that of the Father ’scompany. All of youconstantly stay in thiscolour at this benevolentconfluence age.

“To be a Brahmin meansto make a vow of puritybecause God the Father isever pure. He does not haveto become that. His formis that of purity. Youbecome pure but, in thecolour of the company, youbecome double pure. You

7The World Renewal, March 2012

become pure with body andmind in the future. Whenyou have a right to thekingdom in the future, thenboth the soul and the bodywill be pure. This is yourfortune because you stay inGod’s company.

“Another meaning of theHoli is “ho li” (it hashappened). It has happened, the past is the past; it is thepast. Do you know how tolet the past be the past?Whatever has happened hashappened. If you use onesecond or one minute in aworthwhile way here, thenyour 21 births will beworthwhile. That is aguarantee.

“First, they burn and thenthey celebrate. With thefire of yoga, you burnt yourweaknesses and sanskars, which had been wrongsanskars for many births, did you not? To burn meansto burn, because aftersomething is burnt, noname or trace of it remains. After something is killed, there is still the memorialin the form of the body thatis visible, but, after it isburnt, it is completelyfinished. For instance,

look at Ravan, he was notjust killed, but also burnt sothat all name and trace wascompletely finished. So,all of you should also notedown whether you have justkilled your sanskars orwhether you have burntthem. If you have not burntyour old sanskars, theywill emerge every now andthen. You have becomeholy by burning yoursanskars. To celebrateHoli means to becomeholy, to become pure.

“You make a lot of effort, but, together with thateffort, you also need tohave determined thoughts.Determination is the key tosuccess. Whateverdetermined thought youhave, “determined” meansthat it does not come backagain. Become one whohas determined thoughts: Ihave to do this. Then checkdaily that determinedthought and see what thereason is for weakness inthat determination, andcontinue to pay specialattention to thatcircumstance so that itdoes not emerge again. Siton the seat of a ‘Master

Almighty Authority’ andhave a thought to finish thatsanskar and then finish it!

“Throughout the day, make one power emergeand then sometimes makeanother power emerge andsee what its strength is. Ifyou continue to experiencethis and remain seated onyour seat, the powers willthen always be present infront of you. You alwayscontinue to celebrate Holi, and colour yourself withthe colour of the Father’scompany.

“To belong to God over along period of time, bringsattainment over a longperiod of time. The timeof the confluence age isvery lovely. A second is notjust a second , but onesecond has the attainmentof a year. This is why Godcontinues to say that not asingle second should gowaste. Not a single thoughtshould be wasted. Becomepowerful and make otherspowerful”.

Wishing all our readersand spiritual friends a very, very happy and ever-holyHoli Festival!

SPIRITUALSIGNIFICANCE OF HOLI

India is a land of celebrationand festivity. Positivevibrations of happiness, zeal

and enthusiasm emerge fromthis holy land very often toenclose the world with love andbliss. Because of religiousdiversity, people of Indiacelebrate numerous joyousoccasions throughout the year. The cultures associated withvarious regions differ and so dothe traditions. Basically theHindu culture believes in theexistence of crores of devatas.Associated with a fewprominent ones, withsignificance to the effect theymake on human life, there is afestival. The best example isShivratri, the most importantfestival, associated with GodShiva, which symbolises thedivine birth of the greatest Lordand consequent redemption ofthe whole mankind from thevices or evils.

Amongst the numerousfestivals that we celebrate, Holiis a prominent one. Holi inspiritual sense means anythingwhich has already taken placeand a full-stop needs to be putthere. In short, it means– ‘burn

the past and brighten thefuture.’ Originally Holi wasregarded to be the festival forcelebrating good harvests andfertility of the land.

There are several legendsbehind Holi. A popular legendsays that Holi is celebrated tocommemorate the burning ofHolika, sister of Demon KingHrinyakashyap, who made all-out efforts to dissuade his sonPrahlad from worshipping God.Holika had got a boon that shewould remain safe from fire.To please his brotherHiranyakashyap and with aview to annihilate devoteePrahlad, Holika took him in herlap and sat in the pyre of burningfire. Before that also, thedemon king had made severalmurderous attempts onPrahlad’s life, but all in vain. Now, Holika herself got burnt

in fire whereas child Prahladremained safe and sound. Ithighlights that the true childrenof God remain safe under allcircumstances, like thelegendary Prahlad. In fact,Holika is symbolic of demoniactendencies, whereas Prahladstands for true lovers of God.

Holi is regarded to be theopening festival of the Hinducalendar. It is considered afestival of colours which signifythe vitality that makes thehuman race unique in theuniversal scheme. Holi is alsothe harbinger of spring. It is, ina metaphorical sense, changingearth’s dull garb of winter forthe fresh blue of the Marchskies, the bright colours of newblossoms, the brilliance of thesummer sun washing everythingwith its red-gold hues. Holicomes alive with the colours of‘gulal’.

But in spiritual sense, Holiindicates purity, which is veryessential for attaining peace. Inthe materialistic world, peoplemay be hurling gulal or varietyof colours on each other for

expressing joy, freedom andcarefree state of mind, buttrue happiness, peace andbliss can be attained only onthe basis of purity in ourthoughts, words and deeds, which God Father Shiva isteaching us. Most people ofthe world still have the false

notion that God is omnipresent orHe is present in every nook andcorner of the earth. We have toeducate each and every soul bycolouring them with Gyan orimparting them the trueKnowledge of the Supreme Soul.

Our character has beenpolluted by five main vices ornegative personality traits viz.Lust, Anger, Greed, Ego andAttachment. For eradication ofall of them, it is very essentialto colour human beings withspiritual knowledge. Thisspiritual knowledge helps inestablishing purity, harmony, cooperation and brotherhood, which generate positivevibrations even in the dejectedand depressed souls. The divineknowledge transforms ordinaryhuman beings into Holy Hansor Swans, as swans are whiteor pure in nature and they pickup only pearls; in the samemanner, we should also purifyour mind by picking up pearls ofknowledge which AlmightyFather is imparting inabundance, each and every day, through His divine versions ormurlis.

Finally, by imbibing the godlyknowledge in our practical lifeand by propagating it through allsources available on this earth,we can light the bonfire tocremate all the vices around usand celebrate real Holi.

An angel has no relation with the EarthRevels in the divine mirth

Light in thought, word and deedWears the crown of light indeed!

Transferring all burdens to the AlmightyRemains unfazed amidst all upheavals

Is righteous, honest and loyalPurity and humility make him royal!

MY EXPERIENCES INRAJYOGA

– BK (Major) Pradeep Khare, Bhopal

Our family has alwaysbeen associated withsome religious/spiritual

organisation. In 2009, wehappened to watch the TV show“Awakening withBrahmakumaris” on Astha/Sanskar channel. Thisprogramme discussed real lifesituations with a very practicalapproach. We were soimpressed by the programmethat we located a nearby centreof the Brahma Kumaris atGulmohar, Bhopal, and wentthere.

Brahma Kumari Sister Reenaguided us through the seven-dayRajyoga course. She patientlyanswered all our queries andconvinced us about thephilosophy of Rajyoga. We werefortunate to get books and CDsfrom the centre which providedus with an enriching experience.

After the seven-day course,we were asked to attend thedaily morning class called the“Murli” class. It is believed tobe the words of the SupremeSoul. The same Murli iscirculated to more than 8,500centres across the globe and

read out daily. True to its name,Prajapita Brahma KumarisIshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya,we all are students of GodlySpiritual University who areexpected to attend the dailyclass with pen and notebook. The contents of each Murli areunique and provide us with foodfor thought daily. I have foundthat through the Murli, Godprovides answers to variousquestions which crop up in ourminds from time to time.

Rajyoga meditation is themethod of directcommunication with God.Unlike prayer, which is one-way communication, Rajyogaenables us to listen to God’sdirections. In prayer, which ismore often a ritual, the mouthrecites the prayer while themind wanders.

The Brahma Kumaris don’tbelieve in rituals, worship, donations or membership. There is no restriction onworshipping any deities or goingto temples. There is nocompulsion to wear whiteclothes or leave one’s homeand stay in the ashram. In fact,

only dedicated individuals whoadopt purity as a way of life, and whose parents/guardiansgive written consent, areallowed to stay in the centres.

Modern technology has beenfully harnessed by the BrahmaKumaris. Numerous audio/video CDs of songs/discoursesof Brahma Kumaris areavailable to the students of thisspiritual university. The websitewww.brahmakumaris.org isquite illustrative andinformative. A number ofgroups on the Internet activelyhelp to propagate lectures, seminars, discussions etc. viaemail. Even on socialnetworking sites, includingFacebook, there are manyBrahma Kumaris and BrahmaKumars who share theirspiritual experiences. There arealso some informative blogsabout Brahma Kumaris. The main aspects whichmake the teachings ofBrahma Kumaris unique arethe following:(a)Purity: The Brahma

Kumaris stress on total purityin thought, word and action.

(b)Efforts: Generally peoplepray to God to solve theirproblems, but here the stressis on making efforts in theright direction to solve yourproblems.

(c)Soul-consciousness: Mostof the problems in life stem

The World Renewal, March 201212

from being body-conscious.Once we realise that our trueidentity is that of a soul andnot the body, no situation cantrouble us.

(d) Forget the past: Mostpeople brood over sad eventsof the past and thereby spoilthe present. Here we are toldto put a Full stop to the past, prevent leakage of mentalenergy and make the best useof the present.

(e) Change yourself to changethe world: Many people tryto change other people orsituations to suit themselves, but here the main emphasis ison self-change. If weintrospect, we can find anumber of shortcomings in usthat we need to overcome. Atthe same time if we look at thegood qualities of others andappreciate them, the world willbe full of bliss and peace.Brahma Kumaris is perhaps

the largest internationalorganisation that is headed andmanaged mostly by women. Themale members or BrahmaKumars as they are called,whole-heartedly support theBrahma Kumaris in this task.

This year the Brahma Kumarisare celebrating their platinumjubilee. The theme of thecelebrations, “One God, OneWorld Family”, truly sums up thespirit of the Brahma Kumaris.

I dream of a better tomorrowYou and I living in peace and harmony Not agonizing over false aspirations

Never worried about shattered dreams

I believe we can make it happen If only we have sincere concern

Let’s put a little genuine endeavour To restore humanity, lost honour

Although a lot has been lost

I believe we can still ride the tideLet’s care whom we cherish and adoreExpelling ignorance, apathy and pride

I believe we can still rise again

Giving our lofty instincts a full rein Building a better world is our dream

Our smiles are surely a powerful beam We might have failed in the past But now let’s destroy disgust fast

Accelarate the process of constructionLeave something amazing for next generation

Let’s conquer hatred and embrace loveExplore our God Fatherly treasure troveLead a life of nobility, peace and bliss

Everything in harmony and nothing amiss

I believe in basic goodness of mankindAnd also believe with me many a soul

It may take some time, but we will bindMutual trust and cooperation, reach our goal

I still believe we can do wonderVanity, waste will no more hinder

Surely will be fulfilled our lofty visionsBy keeping attention, following Godly versions

ENHANCING SELF –ESTEEM– Jacobs Adewale, Lagos, Nigeria

HEALHEALHEALHEALHEALTH – TH – TH – TH – TH – WEALWEALWEALWEALWEALTHTHTHTHTH– CHARA– CHARA– CHARA– CHARA– CHARACTERCTERCTERCTERCTER

If wealth is lost nothing is lost.It can be regained. If healthis lost something is lost. It is

difficult to get back the originalhealth. If character is lost, everything is lost as everythingdepends on character. Let’sdiscuss all the three aspectsmore elaborately.

WEALTHAccumulating wealth isnecessary for a comfortableliving. However, accumulatingunlimited wealth is greed. Mostof the common people aresatisfied with an income for acomfortable living while a fewpeople adopt illegal and corruptmethods for accumulation oftheir wealth. They may be happywith their wealth for a shortperiod but in long run when thefacts are known, they may haveto end their lives in jail. Suchnews is being read in dailynewspapers. What is the rootcause of their state? It is onlytheir GREED. So accumulatewealth required for yourcomfortable living. Do not havegreed for wealth.

HEALTHWhen we talk about health, it is

commonly understood asphysical health. Not having anydisease or having goodphysical personality isconsidered as being healthy. But a physically sound personmay not have mental health.Contrary to this a mentallystable person may not havegood physical health. Thenumber of new diseasesemerging in addition to olddiseases is an indication that thephysical health and mentalhealth of people aredeteriorating day-by-daydemanding for more doctorsand specialists. The increasingnumber of hospitals and clinicsin any city shows thedeteriorating trend of health ofthe people in that city. Manyvillages are bereft of medicalspecialists and are starving forwant of primary health centreswith a qualified doctor.

Medical science is so muchdeveloped to the state that wehave specialists for every partof the human body today. Forevery part a specialist doctoris available in corporatehospitals charging hefty fees,

which is beyond the reach of acommon man. There aredifferent types of medicinesavailable like Allopathic,Ayurvedic, Homoeopathy,Nature cure etc. for healing thediseases. Just about a hundredyears back, only few diseaseswere known to people and theywere cured by salt, turmeric, pepper, cloves, ginger and driedginger, coriander, garlic andbutter-milk etc. With the presentknowledge of new diseases andtheir remedial methods, thecommon man is in utterconfusion in selecting the righttype of medicine.

CHARACTERThis is the most importantsubject for all human beings.People are judged withcharacter only as good, better, best or bad, worse or worstperson. The character is taughtand built in a person from thechildhood. Grandparents andparents teach the children, thecharacter by their ownbehaviour and methods followedin different situations withdifferent people. When thechild goes to school and college,he learns the character fromteachers and colleagues.Colleges and Universities issueconduct certificates to all theirstudents about their characterwhile leaving the institutes. Agood character certificate ismust for getting a good job.

There are coaching centres available forpreparing the candidates to attend jobinterviews. In these coaching centres, practicaltraining is offered on behaviour and for facingthe interview board for various examinations.

It may be noted that separate institutionsare available for WEALTH (like stock marketoperations), for HEALTH like gyms and sportsclubs and for CHARACTER (like trainingcentres). A candidate interested in all the threesubjects can attend all the institutions atdifferent times. Is there any institute, whichcan teach all the three subjects at one place?

YES. There is one and only one institute inthe world where all the three subjects aretaught at one place.

It is Prajapita Brahmakumaris IshwariyaVishwa Vidyalaya (or World SpiritualUniversity), with its headquarters situated atMount Abu, Rajasthan, INDIA. It has gotmore than 8500 branch offices spread all overthe world in 133 countries. In the present circumstances of theuniverse, all want to acquire health, wealthand character for leading a peaceful andblissful life. Think about joining thisorganization along with your kith and kin.

Incorporeal souls, stay in their original abode

Absolutely peaceful and free, with Father– God

Then descend on Earth, to play their

respective role

Putting bodily costume on, they forget life’s goal

Passing through the cycle of birth and death

Playing their roles, suffer under Maya’s wrath

Body-consciousness makes all of them vicious

Civil to evil, deities to devils, never soul-conscious

The world turned into hell from erstwhile heaven

Sorrow, suffering and grief, minds at sixes and

sevens

Most of us feel the needto practise someform of meditation

these days. What is the mainpurpose of meditation andwhat are its benefits? Toclearly understand it, let usponder on sleep. Why is sleepso important? During sleep, the soul, while remaining inthe body, is detached from it.When the soul is in thisdetached state, it recoups itsenergy. This regained powersustains us throughout the day. This is why sleep disordersmake it difficult for one to pullthrough the day. Many greatsouls and yogis are known tohave conquered sleep. Thatmeans whatever we get fromsleep can be achieved byother means.

Meditation is moreeffective than sleep inre-energising the soulAll forms of meditation

ultimately aim to relax themind. Meditation is goingfrom a state of doing to justbeing. We are so action-conscious all through the daythat we never get time to

connect to our original self.Doing something all the timeseems to give us a false senseof grat if icat ion. In thisprocess, we forget to be ourown selves. It’s like an athleterunning without taking abreak. It’s not possible tokeep running like this for along t ime. Meditat ionprovides us the much neededbreak from this process ofdoing. It helps us slow downand experience our trueidentity. It gives us a chanceto connect with our innerworld, which is a veryfulfilling experience.

Rajyoga meditat ionfocuses on realizing our trueidentity – that we are souls.A soul is an infinitesimally

small point of light, a sentientenergy free from the bondageof this body or anything else.Being in this state makes usfeel free. We startexperiencing our originalqualities of peace, love, happiness, purity and blisswhen we are in this soul-conscious stage. We gobeyond the limits imposed bythe role being played by us inthis world. And, by thought,we can go to our originalworld, the world where ourFather, the Supreme Soul,l ives. We tune into thefrequency of our Father andwe start receiving all powersfrom Him.

Just as radio stations arebroadcasting all the timebut we can listen to only thestation we tune into, we canreceive the love and powersour Father is showering onus all the time only when wetune into His frequency. Wereach that frequency whenwe become soul-conscious.

BALANCEBALANCEBALANCEBALANCEBALANCEThe indication of balance in life is a sense of well-being,optimism and a clear conscience. The foundation forachieving this is to look after myself spiritually – makingmy mind peaceful, loving and thoughtful at all times. Then I will instinctively know how much time to spendon my own well-being and how much on fulfilling otherresponsibilities. I can only give my best to others whenI am myself at my best.

MATCHSTICKS ANDFORESTS

Wise is the soul thatrealizes we live inhard times fitting our

hellish world. We are lucky tohave food, clean water (hot andcold), heating and comfort whilstmillions do not have these basicsand would call them luxuries. Wehave come to expect everythinglife can offer. In our comfortablelives, we not only expect thesethings as a right, but also wantthem to be handed to us on aplate. We think everything–success, family life, wealth andhealth—belongs to us. So whenwe fail, are unwell, unhappy, lonely or without money, we feelwe are unlucky. Yet how manyreally deserve all that from lifewhen they’ve not really madethe effort to get the reward? Lifetoday will be far from perfect, but it can be otherwise if youalways remember this is hell andyou have learnt to be satisfiedwith a handful of peanuts — andthink yourself lucky.

To give is to receiveIf you go to the supermarket

expecting everything to be givento you and not having to pay onthe way out, then you’ll be in fora shock when you try to leave.

You may well be able to lookat everything on sale but ifyou’ve only enough money tobuy a bottle of milk, then that’sall you are going to get and takehome with you. You may thinkyou should have 100 items likebread (success), chocolate(happiness), fruit (health) etc,but if you’ve not the money topay, you cannot have them. Ifyou’ve not sown the seeds ofgoodness and charity in your lifewith a clean and honest heart, then you cannot expect toomany sunny days in life full ofhealth and wealth when youhave been a rather selfishperson interested only in selfgain. A crook will becomecrooked whilst the righteous willbecome right. The righteouspersons grow very upright andwalk without guilt. They haveno burden, are guilt-free and sonaturally stand straight, seestraight, think straight, walkstraight and aim straight.Blessed are the righteouswhilst the crooks…

Some walk around akin adesert where nothing grows.Their landscape is boring, withnothing beautiful at all to hold

anyone’s attention. Yet some arewalking forests that give andgive to everyone who meetsthem. So rich and warm andgiving are these ‘giving’ people, all who walk through their forestare showered with goodness.

For some, meeting such openand generous souls is likestepping into a different world.People are either fertile orbarren. A few may flower butonce a year. Yet some arewalking flowers with a uniquebeauty and fragrance thatattracts all and leaves themspell-bound. God has createdangels whilst man has createdwitches. The chances are it willnot be an angel who rings yourfront door bell today. If youwant to meet an angel, think ofGod. Some think about God somuch, they have turned into anangel! The fertile mind is hometo a market of happiness

Such is the nature of theirgiving; they do not even knowthey are giving. Yet some walkaround with a big head havinggiven just £1.00, thinkingthey’ve given the world. Somegive a forest, others a tree andmost just a matchstick. Thedifference between giving aforest and a matchstick is aboutthe same as the size of theirhearts and minds or a swimmingpool and an ocean. The one isworried and thinks much about

handing over his heavymatchstick whilst the other ishappy and light and gladlydonates a forest. After givingthe forest, he turns around tosee a bigger forest growingbefore his eyes. His land is veryfertile and can produce muchgoodness. Many struggle togrow even a matchstick, andwhen they do, it often ignitesand burns them (selfishness). Aforest can create many books, much wisdom, many chairs, desks, plates and fruit bowls. Amatchstick at best can light acigarette. You need neverwonder why there are healthyand fortunate people in life whocan live happily with a clearconscience next to the crippledand unfortunate, knowing theymust have scored too many owngoals in life. This football matchof life is full of winners andlosers. The important thing isto make sure you are a winner.Unknowingly, everyoneeither builds their ownprison or swing in lifeNo one can argue with the

referee of life’s huge andcomplex game of karma. If hesays their own goals must standand count against them, thenthey must stand and be put ontheir scorecard and carriedround with them. The karmareferee is always fair to oneand all and favours none. Hegives rewards to the honest and

clean and rewards the dirty anddishonest just as fairly. For thisreason some go for a walk andfind a gold ring, others go for awalk to the doctors and find theyhave caught a serious diseaseand still others cannot walk atall and have to stay in theirhouse imprisoned. Lucky arethose who swing in the gardenwith the birds and bees on asummer’s evening. It’s not luck, however; they are justcharitable and hard workingsouls with a heart in the rightplace. The fruits of this meanthey can walk to their swing anytime they wish. The mouse who wantedto become a managerThere is much beauty in every

turn in a giver’s life. There is aproduction going on that sustainsand makes people glad to bearound them and alive, somewhat like bees around aflower. This is what comesfrom a heart that cares. Yetmost people around have eyesand hearts that can only stareat life — not give! They aregeared up only to take. Theywalk around tightly graspingtheir matchstick of happinessand wealth, frightened someonemay steal it. Like the mousewhich had 12 grains of rice andthought it would open asupermarket and become themanager, they do not realize orthink their matchstick

(happiness) is so small that noone in reality wants it.Do you blow over in thewind? Are you half full orhalf empty? Are you full?

A giver appears to walk(give) endlessly without effort, tiredness or boredom. Thesenon-stop givers are full and sodo not get tired. Full bottles ofpop give and do not stop to thinkof taking, as they’re just toobusy giving pleasure. It is theempty bottles (people) that arealways looking to take fromothers. Why? Because they areempty (searching, unhappy). Itis these takers who have so littlewho tire easily. There is nothinginside them to keep them stable.A giving person, a full person,is a stable bottle and does notblow over easily, unlike theempty bottle. To becomeunhappy or easily fall into a badmood is to blow over. Maybeyou are only half full — or evenhalf empty? Are you affectedby the wind of worry?

How will you walk today?Where will you walk? Will yousee deserts or gardens? Will yousit in a bomb site, jungle orgreenhouse? Will youremember the past, play with themonkeys or grow like a flower? Are you walking out of thedesert (changing) and into asummer garden with its beesthat make sweet honey? Areyou lost in a thick and overgrown

The World Renewal, March 201218

forest that just gives? Are you a walking forest? Is your lifegiving or taking pleasure? Are you content to just sunbathe (take)in the bomb site or are you most happy to be cutting (giving) thelawn? You can only sunbathe for so long before you get burnt.Cutting the grass makes you strong and fit — and very rich.

The problem is, we do not know who we are (orwhere we’ve come from)

Some think we are aliens, others think we have evolved fromapes and monkeys. Many think we have God within us, and justas many worship the sun and moon, rocks and football socks.Man has one huge problem and God has one gigantic solution. The problem is simple: most do not know who they really are.God has the solution to our huge problem and misconception.

What would you call a carpenter who does not know whatwood is? What would you call a chicken that does not knowwhat an egg is or where it comes from? What would you call ahuman soul who does not know he/she is a soul or where he/shecame from? Our world is full of people with the same sense asa chicken. People know how to eat and sleep and reproduce butdo not really know anything of value such as who they are. They run around like headless chickens most of their days, chasingnot knowledge of the soul but after a larger TV, car and salary.Do you lose 100-0 everyday through looking at the

mirror? Why did the chicken cross the road? It crossed the road to

make money or probably to go shopping for clothes or to buy acream cake. Most have little self-control in their lives and havevery narrow minds. Such is their life, they score own goalseveryday and lose life’s daily game of solving the riddle of ‘Whowe are and why we are here’. They turn possible victory intocertain defeat every time they look in the mirror. Within the firstfive minutes of the day they score an own goal. Only the mirrorof the heart can bring victory into their life. If they are too busylooking at their face all the time, they will never think of lookingin the mirror of their heart. For most, the mirror of the heart isseverely cracked and dirty and reflects only ugliness. They haveno idea of what it’s like to win (be truly happy) or try and seetheir inner beauty.

It’s only worth crossing the road to find out who you are andwhere you’ve come from — and to meet God.

SALUTING THE POWER– B.K. Yogesh, Yogi Nagar, Shantivan

B.K. Sister Kamini gavehim a book titled TheEternal World Drama,

containing about 600 pages. This book published by theBrahma Kumaris organisationwas written by B.K. JagadishChander Hasija, a seniorRajyogi. Sukumar read thebook the whole night!Surprisingly, answers to a lotof questions, he had beensearching for, were found inthe book.

“Is Darwin’s theory ofevolution wrong?”– Thequestion that he had onceasked his B.K. friendDiganta directly and B.K.Sister Kamini indirectly, waselaborately explained in thebook.

The whole section II of thebook was directly againstDarwin’s theory of evolution. In the chapter “IsEvolutionary TheoryUniversally Accepted”, thewriter bluntly stated:-

“…Darwin’s theory ofevolution is now explained insuch words that the studentscome to believe that the

theory has finally beenestablished. The prejudice isso strong that the viewsopposing Darwin’s Theoryare not given any space at all,and if these are given, thenthese are not explainedadequately. The result of allthese is that anyone who nowtries to present the oppositeviews is labelled ignorant, fanatic or dogmatic evenbefore he is given properhearing. In fact, most peopleare not aware that there arewell-qualified and competentscientists who hold viewsagainst the theory and whogive scientific reasoning insupport of their views. Here,we will quote some wellknown scientists who do notaccept the Theory ofEvolution…”

Sukumar went through thechapters like “The flaws inDarwin’s Theory, visible inthe light of Darwin’s ownlet ters and writ ings”,“Darwin’s Theory did notand does not find supportfrom Geology andPalaeontology”, “Were Apes

the ancestors of Man or nowman has become an ‘Ape’?”,“Were man’s ancestorsuncivilized ? Did they live inJungles millions of yearsago?” etc. Sukumar couldrealize the drawbacks ofDarwin’s Theory of Evolution, clearly.

Combining Darwin’sTheory about the origin oflife, the Biblian view and theBrahma Kumaris concepts,Sukumar then thought: “Thespiritualist speaks that thesoul is immortal; thatmeans it has no beginningor end, it is eternal. Thescientists say that thematter (that constituteshuman body) is eternal .That means the matter (orenergy) also can’t becreated or destroyed. TheBrahma Kumaris arepropagating that the worlddrama is eternal. He thenwondered whether life orliving creatures are alsoeternal?

That day Sukumar waslistening to ‘Murli’ at theB.K.Centre. He had by now

Episode – 5

– B. K. Mukut Sarma, Nalbari, Assam

The World Renewal, March 201222

understood that the ‘Murli’was elevated versions of GodFather Shiva, spoken througha human medium. That dayB.K. sister Jonali, the in-charge of Nalbari Centre, was reading the ‘Murli’. Itwas for the first time thatSukumar was listening the‘Murli’ being read andexplained by her. Though hehad been attending Rajyogaclasses for about two months,he had not as yet met her asshe was busy in expandingthe Godly services in theneighbouring towns.

Sukumar was listening tothe ‘Murli’ very attentively. There were many words themeaning of which he couldnot understand properly.Explaining the meaning of allthese words lucidly, sisterJonali took him into the depthof the ‘Murli’.

Sukumar was very happy. He thought that perhaps sisterJonali had studied the ‘Murli’very deeply. Therefore, hethought that he would haveample scope to clarify thosecritical points through her. After the Murli class,Sukumar was got introducedto B.K. sister Jonali.

Jonali Goswami, the firstAssamese girl to dedicate herlife as a Brahma Kumari, wasborn in an affluent family of

Assam. With an inborntendency for social service, she had thought to remainunmarried and do service ofthe people, right from herteenage.

In the year 1979, sisterJonali passed the High SchoolLeaving Examination. ABrahma Kumaris branch hadbeen opened at Guwahati, thecapital city of Assam, one ortwo year before.

In the year 1979 itself, there started a great politicalstorm in Assam. Actually, itwas not only a political storm, rather all the great disasterslike, the earthquake, thevolcanic eruption, the flood, the l ightning, thethunderbolts—all hit thepeople of Assamsimultaneously. For a periodof about six years, a politicalwhirlpool or poli t ical‘tsunami’ hit the people ofAssam very badly. Aroundthe same time started a greatpolitical movement against thei l legal infi l t rat ion offoreigners.

The State of Assam wasburning with violence.Everywhere there werescenes of fire, smokes andashes only. Except the newsof lathi charge by police, application of tear gas, policefiring, violence, attacks and

anti-attacks, bomb blasts, picketing and curfew, therewere no good news. Formore than a year, all theschools, col leges anduniversities remained closed.Perhaps, it was the darkestmoment of Iron Age(Kalyuga ) night for thepeople of Assam.

In such a violent andpolitical night with no moon, sister Jonali (the Assameseword Jonali means moonlight) being inspired by herparents had started theseven-day course atGuwahati branch under theguidance of B.K. Sheela.

“The first moon will beconverted into full moon andwill shine light to the nighttravellers” – there arose ahope in the divine family—”InAssam an Assamese girl hasbecome interested in this newknowledge”. At that time andin that environment, ofcourse, it was not an ordinarymatter. Even the senior Dadisfrom Mount Abu had inspiredher by writing letters.

Receiving spiritual andcollege educationsimultaneously, she preparedherself to become an idealBrahma Kumari in future.

In the year 1986, shededicated her life to theservice of God and humanity,

23The World Renewal, March 2012

in a big public function atSonaram High Schoolplayground. After taking oathfor the world service, sisterJonali was immediately sentto Nalbari town to repair andreconstruct the damagedbuilding of the branch.

Being a fresher, trainedand educated in theenvironment of a capital citylike Guwahati, sister Jonalihad kept her maiden feet atthis small town, Nalbari. Ofcourse, at that time, this smalltown also became a capital –‘the capital of theextremists’ . With thedeclared mission of freedomand to establish a corruptionfree and classless society, agood number of young peoplehad been persuaded by themto dedicate their life for it.

On the other hand, SisterJonali had reconstructed theBrahma Kumaris branch atNalbari. With the light ofknowledge, she had beenilluminating the path of souls. The thorns were changinginto buds. The buds startedblooming. But being a newkind of inst i tute, theredeveloped a misconceptionamong the local people thatthe Brahma Kmaris institutionwas a modified version of anoutfi t to propagate aparticular religion. Around

the same time, the districtlevel leader of an organisationhad been kidnapped by theextremists from Nalbari town.No information or clue abouthim was found even later.

B.K. Sister Jonali hadreceived some secretinformation that her namewas at number Three in thehot list of the persons to bekidnapped by the extremists,.The first one, being the leaderof a political outfit, hadalready been kidnapped.

Sister Jonali did not paymuch attention to all thosethings; rather she was busywith the churning ofknowledge imparted by ShivBaba. But when the localreligious leader, whose namewas at number Two was alsokidnapped, and the secretsource once again alerted her,she had to take the matter abit seriously. As per advice ofthe secret source, she gaveup the habit of morning walk,as according to the secretsource, it was their plan tokidnap her at the time ofmorning walk.

Sister Jonali was in adilemma. Had she informedall those things to senior sisterB.K. Sheela, she wouldimmediately have called herback from Nalbari. It wouldmean the closure of Nalbari

branch. The (soul) lightwould be put off. The budswould once again convert intothorns. The flowers wouldfade out.

“No and never” – Afterdedicating her life to thesupreme, she cannot behavelike a coward now. Let mesee what is there in the‘drama’. The supreme poweris with me.”– Sister Jonalimade up her mind.

One day, two youngpersons came to the centre. They specially met B.K. sisterJonali and asked her differentquestions about the BrahmaKumari inst i tut ion. Inbetween, they would put theirhands inside a bag carried bythem and pressed somebuttons. Talented sister Jonalicould understand that theguys were recording hervoice. Perhaps they weremembers of the extremistorganization. Under thedirection of their seniors, theyhad recorded her answers toplace these recordings beforetheir leaders. Therefore, aiming at the senior leaders, she had elaborately explainedthe aim, object and activitiesof Brahma Kumarisinstitution.

BALANCING ACTS OF LIFEBALANCING ACTS OF LIFEBALANCING ACTS OF LIFEBALANCING ACTS OF LIFEBALANCING ACTS OF LIFE

In nature there is a properbalance between seasons –Spring, Summer, Autumn

and winter. Too much of anyseason is harmful like heavyrain, extreme cold etc. Similarlyin our thoughts, words andactions; we need to maintain abalance. If one thinks too much,it creates inner noise. If onetalks too much, it creates noiseexternally and our internalenergy gets depleted. And whathappens when we come intoaction; if we are too busy indoing too many things, itbecomes tiresome. It is,therefore, said: Too much is toobad. So how and where to strikea balance!!!

Contentment andContentment andContentment andContentment andContentment andCreativityCreativityCreativityCreativityCreativity

When we say ‘contentment’,it also means relaxation. Themoment we have contentmentin mind, we can experiencecalmness. This inner state ofcalmness brings about creativitytoo. This is the perfect balance.

Responsibility andResponsibility andResponsibility andResponsibility andResponsibility andCarefreenessCarefreenessCarefreenessCarefreenessCarefreeness

To be too much carefree isnot good and too much of

responsibility (being overburdened) is also not good. Inaction I should be responsiblebut in my words I should becarefree. I cannot waste mywords. In villages there arewomen carrying five-six pots ofwater on their heads balancingas well as singing. It is not justpractice but the ease that theyknow that they can carry it.They are not aware that theyare balancing. So when I pickup any responsibility, it shouldbe with that ease. The moreresponsibility I am able to take, the more in tune I am with whathas to be done. If theresponsibility is someone else’s,I could be in tension. If I amincharge and I am doing it, Ishould be more carefree. Mywords should give a lot ofeasiness to people around me.If my words create heavinessto others then I will not getthe needed co-operation.People will do it but not withenthusiasm and will make alot of mistakes.

Lovable and LawfulLovable and LawfulLovable and LawfulLovable and LawfulLovable and LawfulTo be lawful is necessary to

get things done, but along with

that I need to be loving too. Tobe loving means to be able toappreciate and respect theother person’s nature orpersonality. When I have thisbalance, I am able to bring aboutdiscipline with love. The othersdon’t feel the heaviness of thecorrection but are able to bringthe required change with love.FirFirFirFirFirmness and Fmness and Fmness and Fmness and Fmness and Flelelelelexibilityxibilityxibilityxibilityxibility

It is necessary to be firm withtime but along with that therehas to be flexibility in thoughts. It cannot happen every time asI wish. I plan to have dinner andat the same time some guestscome; I should not be so firmwith my dinner timings that Imake the guests wait. Too muchof flexibility is also not good, forinstance the leaves of grasswithstand even before bigstorms because of the balanceof being strong yet flexible whenrequired. Flexibility also createsfirmness in others. If I am notflexible enough, I cannot createfirmness in time with peoplearound me.Generosity and EconomyGenerosity and EconomyGenerosity and EconomyGenerosity and EconomyGenerosity and Economy

The right balance is to begenerous in time and economicin words. If I spend a lot of timethinking about something and Ikeep talking about it, it will onlywaste energy. In one room youcan have one bulb or you canhave many more even if it is notnecessary. But the extraelectricity is wasted. If I

economize with my words,I can use the time saved fora lot of other things.

Balance inBalance inBalance inBalance inBalance inRelationshipRelationshipRelationshipRelationshipRelationship

To be balanced is tounderstand the time, thecircumstances and theperson while doingsomething. When we are ingood mood and we arehappy, we want to givehappiness all around. Butare we assuming thateveryone should take thathappiness when we arehappy? To be balancedmeans to be available forothers according to theirneed. Balance gives a silentmessage,”Take whateveryou want – help, happiness, peace….” Balance inrelationship is not what wechoose to give. It is tounderstand the otherperson’s pulse and giveaccordingly.

The key to success isbalance. The one withbalance is constantly ableto move forward, like atight rope – walker. He isaware of being above theground yet moves forwardto his destination. The onewith balance is able tomake his life beautiful, special and he is sure toreach his destination.

BEAUTY

Beauty is an expression of truth. A beautiful person is theone who has the glow of spirituality. His or her life is theexpression of the fragrance of truth. Physical beauty is

perishable, as we all know. The beauty of the self or soul is eternaland lives its life through truthful actions. When we embody ourhighest virtues, we become beautiful.

Beauty of the self comes from virtues. Truly virtuous people arethe most beautiful. It is a pleasure to watch them perform even themost mundane of chores because beauty always reveals itselfthrough actions. “Handsome is that handsome does” is therefore, correctly said. Who can make us ever beautiful?

The beauty of God is that He is ever pure. When we forget ourpurity, we allow untruth to enter our lives; we base ourselves onfalse, external supports and that is seen as the ugliness of vicesin our lives. Falsehood is what brings impurity and hence, ugliness.Untruth is ugly. On the other hand, God who is ever pure, evertruth, cannot become impure. One who has never lost His beautyis the One who can lead us to our beauty.

A creation well created is a joy for the creator. When God is ourCreator, in the sense that He re-creates us into images of perfect, virtuous people, we become His joy forever! Hence a thing of beautyis a joy forever.

Beauty is purity. A mirror is what reflects beauty. If there wereno mirrors, people will not know for themselves how beautiful theyare. So a thing that reflects beauty is by itself most beautiful.Beauty when reflected through pure actions creates a mirror-likeself. To become a mirror which reflects virtues is the most beautifulservice of all.

The Supreme purity of God is what makes Him the BeautifulTraveller. He travels to our corporeal world once in a cycle andcomes to make us beautiful once again. We have only to becomeclay in His hands, so that He moulds us, sculpts us and returnsus back to our original beauty of being pure and virtuous beings.

Radionics and Rajyoga havecertain similarities. Bothdepend on healing vibrationsfor correcting the defectiveenergy-fields. Rajyogarequires dedication anddiscipline for harnessingwillpower. Radionics requiresnothing more than swallowinghomeopathy sugar pillscharged with Radionics water. So we have a choice to choosefrom pill-power and willpower. Will power has an advantageof gradual self-purification andself-empowerment, which canbe applied to any adversesituation in life. Radionics orRadiation tele-electronicsfunctions on the principles ofQuantum Physics, whichenvisages that all life-forms arebathed in electro-magnetic andother energy-fields of not onlythis earth but from whole of theCosmos. These energy-fieldsare metaphysical, i.e., adimension beyond theperception of physical science.(Dr. Rupert Sheldrake). Eachperson is unique in terms ofsuch energy-fields – “AVibration-Signature” down toeach cell-level. Stress, injuries, infections, pollution, malnutrition and poor hygiene

cause alteration in this Auric-Energy Pattern. Dr. AlbertAbrams (1863-1924) designedseveral Radionics Machines toread and treat the disturbedenergy-fields, which aresupposed to be formed by Bio-photons (Light-Energyparticles). As yet, there is noscientific evidence for theexistence of Putative EnergyFields. But all the same,Radionics has been found to bevery effective in a wide rangeof illnesses where themainstream medicine has littleto offer. Radionics can beused as complimentary to otherforms of therapy. But itsefficacy is such that it, by itself, forms a complete system ofhealing without any sideeffects. The energy-fieldscould be tested by kinesiologyor dowsing. Kinesiology testscertain muscles that becomeweak in negative energy statesand strengthened in positiveenergy states. Dowsing is themethod of reading energy-fields by using pendulum orrods. Utmost success has beenobtained in Asthma, Arthritis, depression, allergies,Andropause (HormonalImbalance), early ageing andprostatic hyperplasia. Dr.Deepa Hoskote, who hasacquired vast experience in thisfield while working in

Radionics Unit of Satye SaiBaba Hospital, Bangalore, isnow at Mumbai. Hercompilation of cured cases ismedical miracles. Themedicine consists of few dropsof sterilized charged water orHomeopathy pills transcribedwith Specific “Energy-Messages” using a Radionicsinstrument. There are no sideeffects or any interferencewith other forms of therapy. MY INDIA, MY PRIDE

– Monica Bharti, X Std., Chandi Mandir (Har.)

If the Lord Himself gaveme an option to choosethe place of my birth, I

would without any doubtchoose India. I take greatpride in being an Indian. Forme, India is the most beautifulland with r ich culture, spiritual beliefs, traditions, besides of course, thetowering Himalayanmountains, beautifulmonuments andmasterpieces of art like theworld famous Taj Mahal. Itis the land where the blend ofmodernity and traditions canbe seen.

India is the cradle of oneof the most ancientcivilizations whose relics aresafely preserved forposterity. It is the land whichgave birth to the likes ofBuddha, Mahatma Gandhiand Guru Nanak who ledothers towards the path ofenlightenment. A look at theIndian calendar would tell youthat it is a land of celebrationsand festivals like Lohri, Pongal,Eid, Diwali, Christmas—thelist is endless. All these

celebrations display unity indiversity.

There is no field whereIndians have not excelled.Noble laureates like ShriRabindra Nath Tagore, SirC.V. Raman, greatphilosophers like Adi GuruShankaracharya, SwamiVivekananda, astronauts likeRakesh Sharma and lateKalpna Chawla havedemonstrated to us that sky isthe limit and each Indian hasthe right to dream. Thefreedom movement of Indiaduring second half of 19thCentury and first half of 20thcentury witnessed indomitablecourage and deep–rootedpatriotism of our bravecountrymen.

Our country is doing its bestto translate our dreams intoreality. Our educationalinstitutions match the very bestin the world and the worldsalutes our technocrats whohave put India on the globalmap. There are more then 35%of scientists in NASA, who areof Indian origin.

India has always had a

place of honour on account ofits spiritual and moral values. Our spiritual organizations likePrajapita Brahma KumarisIshwariya Vishwa Vidyalayahave been engaged in thespiritual regeneration of theworld. It is a matter of greatpride for us—Indians thatIncorporeal God Shiva hasalso been carrying out thedivine task of worldtransformation through thecorporeal medium of PrajapitaBrahma Baba from the piousland of Bharat.

Aren’t these reasonsenough to make Indians feelblessed? Hence, I concludeby saying that we feelfortunate and have great pridein being an Indian.

LESSONS FROM HISTORY TOCREATE A BETTER WORLD

India occupies a special placein world history, on accountof its valiant sons and

daughters who wereembodiments of courage, sacrifice and patriotism. Thegrandeur of their character, indomitable spirit, zeal andenthusiasm inspire not onlyIndians but also people of theentire world, even today. Theyinclude great persons, thinkers, spiritualists—embodiments ofservice of mankind, personalsacrifice for common good andwelfare of all. They crossedhuman barriers and limitations ina bid to serve mankind. Suchgreat persons have always beena source of inspiration formillions of our countrymen tofollow the same path. Their pathmight have been full of hurdlesand obstacles, they might havehad to compromise on theirpersonal goals, but they becamesuccessful in contributing to thewelfare of the country andultimately the common goodof world at large.

The whole world is well awareof Mahatma Gandhi’scommitment, perseverance, equipoise and other qualities ofhead, along with the lofty

qualities of his heart –compassion, tenderness, cooperation, sympathy, careand concern. The inspirationalleadership exhibited byMahatma Gandhi during theentire freedom struggle inspiredour compatriots and theybecame a part of the greatmovement which ultimately ledto freedom of India fromforeign yoke.

Many noble souls havecontributed to the moral andspiritual upliftment of society. There is a long list of such soulswho played their role on thesacred land of India andcontributed remarkably topreserve its original sanctityand glory. During the last aboutthree decades, people haveincreasingly been aware of theservice and sacrifice ofBrahma Baba, the foundingFather of Prajapita BrahmaKumaris Ishwariya VishwaVidyalaya. Brahma Baba hasbeen a constant source ofinspiration for millions of soulsdesirous of having spiritualelevation, worldwide. In fact,Brahma Baba’s service tohumanity has no parallel in thehistory of the entire world.

Lofty ideals, moral values, grandeur of vision and positiveapproach have been thehallmark of these enlightenedbeings that will forever remaina source of inspiration to all.One of the most scintillatingstars of the great land of Indiawas Vishnugupta, whobecame renowned asChanakya or Kautilya.

Magadha was a verypowerful kingdom in India orBharat when Chanakya wasborn in the 4th century B.C.King Dhanananda ruledMagadha thosedays. Chanakya gothis Gurukula education atTaxila University on account ofscholarship provided by theking. Chanakya was a brilliantscholar and after havingcompleted his education, he wasappointed teacher in the sameuniversity. Having heard thestories of Magadha’s prosperityand wealth, even Alexander theGreat wanted to conquer thisland. In fact Alexander wantedto conquer entire India andChanakya was well aware ofhis designs. Havingcomprehended the impendingdanger for the entirecountry, Chanakya went to thecourt of Dhanananda.

King Dhanananda was avoluptuous person. He hadsentenced to death manypatriots who had become

victims of his corrupt mind. Many senior officers, whocarried out their dutiesconscientiously and constantlyreminded the king of his duties, were humiliated and punished. Many of them were imprisonedand some were even hangedbecause they used to opposethe vicious and mean activitiesof the king. Even Chanak,Chanakya’s father, had facedthe king’s wrath as he too hadtried to oppose the anti-peopleactivities of the king.

Chanakya tried to bring to thenotice of the king the imminentthreat of Alexander’s attack andthe importance of immediatelymaking a strong strategy withthe consultation of theneighbouring kingdoms, so thatIndia could be saved fromforeign slavery and subjugationfor many centuries to come. Healso chided the king for havingneglected his duties towards thepeople and the nation. Hepointed out to the king that hehad to lead an exemplary life andhis immoral acts would provereally destructive for the entirenation. Dhanananda paid noheed to Chanakya’s words andinstead threatened him of direconsequences if he didn’t stophis tirade against the king.Having felt greatly insulted andhumiliated, Chanakya vowed toend the king’s unjust and corrupt

rule; he opened his plait of hairand resolved to fasten it onlyafter the king had been de-throned.

An idol of determination,Chanakya was gifted with asharp intellect. There was nomatch for his well-churnedthoughts and decisions. He hadlearnt from his father’sexecution that – ‘a man whoopens his mouth too often mayend up meeting a tragic end, either by indigestion or byexecution.’ He silently thoughtof plans to take over Magadhaand waited for the right time. Itis believed that he was born witha full set of teeth in his mouth. It was an auspicious symbol ofthe child becoming a king. Buthe decided to become thekingmaker rather than the king.

Chanakya choseChandragupta Maurya as hisstudent. Having noticedChandragupta’s qualities offairness, impartiality andinspirational leadership,Chanakya had concluded thathe could be the future emperorof India. He could foresee thatit was Chandragupta Mauryawho could de-throneDhanananda and rule Magadhaand lead to the formation of astrong, united and prosperousIndia. Chanakya’s wisedecisions and timely guidancehelped Chandragupta conquer

Magadha. Chandragupta ruledover India for a long time andhe is remembered as one of therighteous, judicious and greatemperors in Indian history.

On administration, Chanakyamade a very significantcontribution. A study of Arth-shastra, his famous treatise onstatecraft, proves that he caredfor the people and was aspiritual soul in the making.

Chanakya opined that in thehappiness of the subjects liesthe king’s own happiness and intheir welfare, his own welfare.According to him, the king hasthree basic duties: Raksha–protection, Palana–maintenance or sustenance andYogakshema–welfare of thepeople. In his views, thepossible means by which a kinghas to settle disputesare saama–gentle persuasion, daama–monetary incentives, danda–punishment or war, bheda – intelligence, propaganda and disinformation. There cannot be a countrywithout people, and there is nokingdom without a country. It isthe people who constitute akingdom. He further statesthat there are seven constituentelements of a state–the king, acouncil of ministers, theterritory and populace, fortifiedtowns, the treasury, the armedforces and the allies.

31The World Renewal, March 2012

Regarding taxation he saidthat as one plucks fruits from agarden as they ripen, so shoulda king collect revenue as itbecomes due. Just as onedoesn’t collect unripe fruits, theking should avoid collectingrevenue that is not due becausethat will make the people angryand spoil the very source ofrevenue.

Chanakya dreamt ofrecreating the golden age ofBharat Varsha. In creatinggolden age in Bharat,Chanakya’s efforts aretremendous which we oftenignore. His views on thepolitical system are a greatguidance for the present daysituation. With so much ofdwindling values in the societyand corruption andmismanagement inadministration, having propervision with rightful thoughtswill surely help us.

For this, spiritual knowledgeshould be inculcated by everyperson; especially every leadershould know the purpose ofhuman life. If that is done, theircraving for money will declineand an attitude to serve willdevelop. This will give oursociety better leaders andeventually we will havea transparent administration andbetter living conditions insociety. It is rightly said – With

the slaughter of multitudes, wehave grief and sorrow. Everyvictory is a funeral; when youwin a war, you celebrate bymourning. Chanakya had plansto win kingdoms with minimumwar and that too as a last resort. His sole purpose was to haveharmony and create the goldenage. He said that there isnothing an emperor has to prideabout himself when he wins awar, rather he should regret thathe couldn’t avoid it.

By having an overview ofour glorious history, we canunderstand that a spiritual bentof mind can work wonders. With no broadband connectionor Wi-Fi networks, thesewonderful ancestors of oursachieved far more than whatwe can even think of now. Weare becoming slaves ofexternal, materialistic things. Webelieve less in ourselves butdepend more on technology.

Let us grow spiritually, ignoring the materialisticbenefits. The more we elevateourselves in understanding theSupreme, and the basic purposeof our life, other things willnaturally fall in place. We getpower from developing ourinner strength. By inner strength

we mean our will-power, self-discipline, self-control,persistence, detachment, theability to concentrate and peaceof mind. As a result ofmeditation, we find all the abovefactors resulting in an upwardtrend in our daily graph. We setan example for others, so thatthey also give a positivedirection to their lives. Let usbe visionaries, having the powerto foresee from within. This setsthe trend for making our Worlda Better Place to live in.

It would be apt to sum upwith the following quote by Dr.S. Radhakrishnan, formerPresident of India:

“The truly great are not themen of wealth or possessions;not men who gain name andfame, but those who testify tothe truth in them and refuseto compromise, whatever bethe cost. They are determinedto do what they consider tobe right. We may punish theirbodies or refuse comforts tothem, but we cannot buy theirsouls, we cannot break theirspirits. Whosoever possessesthis invulnerability of spirit, even to a little extent, deserves our admiration.”

“Trust in dreams, for in themis hidden the gate to eternity.”

(... Contd. from Page No. 3) honour to vicious behaviour ofthose males who have wrongbeliefs and attitudes. In fact, getting greater authority andgreater participation alsodepends on shift in attitude orconsciousness.

Also, there is need tochange the attitude of men. Ifthey look upon women as anobject of sex for sensualpleasures or a second-classcitizen, then things cannotchange much. There is thusneed for value-orientation andpurification of their attitudesand outlook. There is a largenumber of men who haverespect for women and whoadvocate greater role andparticipation of women.Indeed, some men haveworked more for promotion ofthe cause of women than evenwomen have done. Such menhave performed service notonly to women but also to allhumankind because the wellbeing of society depends on thewell being of women.

Equality and StrengthThere cannot be equality on

the basis of body, becausebody-wise each gender hasdifferent abilities and adifferent role to play. Theequality that is sought can behad by transcending thedifferences between the maleand the female identity, based

on body-consciousness andgender-consciousness and, instead, identifying the self assoul – a tiny point of light, mightand divinity. It is soul-consciousness that will giveself-respect, feeling of humandignity and spiritual strengthand strong will.Complementary and not

antagonistic rolesIt has to be realised that

men and women are not tohave opposite interests andantagonistic attitudes. Theyhave to play complimentaryroles. The human soul, whether it be in a male or afemale body, can have thequalities of courage, hard workand strong-willed action—which are generally consideredas the male qualities – and itcan also have the qualities ofcompassion, caring, as thefemale qualities. The innate, inherent or core qualities of thesoul, in the male or the femalebody, are the same and qualitieswhich people generally relateto gender, are acquired qualitiesand these can be acquired byboth. It is possible to have boththese kinds of qualities anddevelopment by a shift inconsciousness, i.e., by beingsoul-conscious instead ofhaving body-consciousnessand by connecting the self withthe supreme source, God, Who

well to an extent, one needs toponder deeply whether this hassolved the basic problem? Willgreater participation of women insocial, political, financial, administrative, legislative andother fields give us a really happyand peaceful society?

It should not be hard to realizethat the real problem is rooted inthe attitudes and beliefs of peopleand it is these wrong attitudes andwrong beliefs that lead to wrongbehaviour. For example, there isthe age-long belief that Eve wascreated for Adam from one rib ofAdam and that it was Eve wholed to the fall of Adam and theloss of paradise. There is also thewrong belief that Brahma, Vishnuand Shankar also became beguiledby the charms of Saraswati,Vrinda and Parvati respectively. These and such other beliefs ledto faulty attitudes and badbehaviour. Also, it is mentioned insome religious text that womenare weak. So, what needs to beended is the attitude of gender-discrimination and the belief thatwomen are weak, inferior anddeficient. Things will not changeby giving them merely greaterauthority and making them incharge of certain affairs of thesociety but by building in them asense of self-respect and self-confidence and emancipatingthem from surrendering their

is the Most Powerful Soul. It isthis spiritual connection of thesoul with the Supreme that reallyleads to right type ofempowerment, for not onlydoes it restore self-respect,self-confidence and self-reliance but it also leads toholistic development of thehuman individual who now hasboth types of qualities and hashonesty and humility andrespect for others as alsorespect for the self, as a childof the Supreme should have.Without this spirituality, one hasonly half the development. Godhas both types of positivequalities and by linking the selfto Him, one gets both the typesof divine qualities. Identificationof the self with the male or thefemale body may deprive aperson of half of these.Spirituality unites; body-

consciousness dividesSpirituality ends hostility,

antagonism, clash of interestsand divisionism in the society. It brings integration, strengthand solidarity, for it unites. Itopens the third eye of wisdomand enables us to reach ourinner, inexhaustible source ofpower and purity that leads tostrengthening of will.

The harm done bygender-discriminationGender-discrimination,

based on body-consciousness,

has created conflict in thesociety and has deprived it ofthe constructive and positiveparticipation of half thepopulation. So, the solutiondoesn’t lie in replacing malechauvinism by femalechauvinism but by liberatingboth halves of society fromgender-bias anddiscrimination, based on body-consciousness. If there hadbeen no gender-bias, therewould have been sharing ofpower and also positiveparticipation of both.Empowerment leading to

equality, developmentand peace

So, empowerment doesn’tnecessarily imply the attainmentof legal and other powers. Itdoes not mean the attainmentof such power as can enablewomen to control men. Itdoesn’t mean the learning ofcertain martial or physical skillsfor security. On the contrary, itimplies acquiring such spiritualpower that lifts a person fromthe level of animalisticbehaviour to the graceful levelof a devi, a shakti or a womanwho has a high sense of self-esteem, built on the belief thatthe self is a child of theSupreme.

If one doesn’t have this kindof consciousness of one’sidentity, one can neither

experience equality norempowerment nor have thedevelopment of one’s fullpotential. By having theawareness of the self as a soulonly, one can have holisticdevelopment and also haveconcern for the society.Spirituality develops one’s allpowers, viz. power of speech, power of audience, power ofvision, power of self-control etc.

Power of SpiritualityOne, who has experience of

spiritual bliss, is the mostcontented person. Such aperson alone does servicewithout selfishness. Such aperson is ‘developed’ in the realsense of the word. No one candominate or enslave such a soul.Such one can inspire andinfluence others and have realpeace of mind. So, the sloganof ‘Equality, Development andPeace’, i.e. the slogan of manyInternational WomenConferences; can be realizedonly or mainly through spiritualempowerment.

Empowerment of bothIt needs to be understood

clearly and properly that theproblems of genderdiscrimination, violence againstwomen and abuse of womenand deprivation of their basichuman rights are rooted in thevices. Man’s lust for sex, basedon body-consciousness, and his

pride, based on his muscle-power etc., and his ambitionto dominate arise from thevices, sex-lust, pride, greedand other evils. So also, anger that results in violence, arises from one’sawareness of andidentification with the body. Not only men but womenalso are under the yoke ofthese vices. Therefore, those women, who havestrong tendencies for asexual life or havingattachment with or attractiontowards the body of a maleor their own body, let othersdominate them and someeven let others abuse them.

Thus, the real remedy liesin eradication of the fivemajor evils, viz. Sex-lust,Anger, Greed, Attachmentand Pride and it is thesewhich have led toexploitation of women bymen and vice-versa. So, thesociety must be freed fromthese vices through learningand practising spiritualMeditation or Yoga. RajyogaMeditation is the real wayof empowerment of womenand men, as it brings equality, development and peace.

TTTTThe POhe POhe POhe POhe POWER to DISCERNWER to DISCERNWER to DISCERNWER to DISCERNWER to DISCERN

When I was in school, while browsing the newspaper, I cameacross an advertisement which said, “Librarians requiredwith at least Bachelors degree in Library Science and

few years of experience.” I was a bit surprised to see theadvertisement and wondered why they need a person, who just sitsat the table whole day and does nothing to be so qualified and therequirement of library science degree added extra spice to myamusement. For the first time, I came to know that there is whole lotof study involved to just check your library card and lend few books.

Days passed and I moved into college. Unlike school, collegerequired additional study and reference of few other books was alsorequired. This requirement brought me in contact with big librarieswith countless books and experienced librarians. Their experiencereflected in the way information was arranged in the form ofcatalogues, ability to perceive the requirements of the customer, detect the quality and in-depth insight into authors, domains andwritings.

These highlighted keywords form the platform for power to discern. So, how is this platform built in real life? One of the tenets for becomingyogi is to have a Clean Mind and Clear Intellect.

When a room has to be cleaned, first the objects are removed fromthe room and all the activities are minimized. In the same way, practiceof silence from the bottom of mind helps the mind to cleanse itself. This practice in Rajyoga is referred to as being in the state of “Towerof Silence”.

After cleaning, things are arranged according to a pattern in theroom so that at any point the objects could be reached fast. In thesame way, practice of pattern recognition at the intellectual level helpsthe intellect to clear itself. This practice in Rajyoga is referred to asbeing a “Detached Observer”.

These two practices help in building the platform to empower thesoul and in a subtle way the Power to Discern is accumulated.
