PrefaceWe are both 13 years old student from Labschoolkebayoran Junior High

School , Jakarta, Indonesia. The problem that we often find among

youth is bullying. Not only in Indonesia, but almost in every school

in the part of the world. Those problems not solving yet. Sometime,

this problem just happen because of small things. They see the

diffrences as a problem because the feeling of unhappiness. For

example, skin color, boys or girls, like or dislike and many more.

In 2012, there are 2,339 physical cases, psychological cases and

sexual arresment in kids, and 300 cases is bullying. In 2011 there

are 498 cases in Indonesia, and in 2008 there are 525 cases.

However, in the case of 2012 has reducing.

For that we are using a FRESH(Free Smile, Shake Hands, and Hugs)as

our title, to give the teens perseption about how great the impact

og being happy in life. Thus we hope that the teens have a brighter

future if always happy.

UNIT 1: BACKGROUND

Being unhappy could reflect at the behavior at school, for

example is bullying. Bullying is a form of aggression by the

dominant power of the behavior in the behaviors that are performed

repeatedly for the purpose of interfering with other children or

weaker victims of it. The Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood

Development defines bullying occurs when a person or group of people

annoy or threaten the safety and health of a person both physically

and psychological, threatening property, reputation or one's social

acceptance as well as done repeatedly and continuously.

According to the survey conducted by Latitude News in 40 countries,

that bullying is usually the students. Whilst the girls more

gossiping rather than perform physical violence. The survey also

found in countries with cases of bullying in the entire world.

The following 5 countries with cases of bullying is highest in the

world:

1.Japan

2.Indonesia

3.Canada and the United States

4.Finland

5.South korea

Bullying could happened because of feeling dislike to the victim

such as the victim has something that the bullier don’t have.

Dopamine

Imaging studies have provided new insights on the role of dopamine (DA) in drug abuse and addiction in the human brain. These studies have shown that the reinforcing effects of drugs of abuse in human beings are contingent not just on DA increases per se in the striatum (including the nucleus accumbens) but on the rate of DA increases. The faster the increases, the more intense the reinforcing effects. They have also shown that elevated levels of DAin the dorsal striatum are involved in the motivation to procure thedrug when the addicted subject is exposed to stimuli associated withthe drug (conditioned stimuli). In contrast, long-term drug use seems to be associated with decreased DA function, as evidenced by reductions in D2 DA receptors and DA release in the striatum in addicted subjects. Moreover, the reductions in D2 DA receptors in the striatum are associated with reduced activity of the orbitofrontal cortex (region involved with salience attribution and motivation and with compulsive behaviors) and of the cingulate gyrus(region involved with inhibitory control and impulsivity), which implicates deregulation of frontal regions by DA in the loss of control and compulsive drug intake that characterizes addiction. Because DA cells fire in response to salient stimuli and facilitate conditioned learning, their activation by drugs will be experienced as highly salient, driving the motivation to take the drug and further strengthening conditioned learning and producing automatic behaviors (compulsions and habits).

Free Smile, Shake hands, and hugs | FRESH Campaign 5

Dopamine (DA) is the neurotransmitter that has been classically associated with the reinforcing effects of drugs of abuse and may have a key role in triggering the neurobiological changes associatedwith addiction. This notion reflects the fact that all of the drugs of abuse increase the extracellular concentration of DA in the nucleus accumbens. Increases in DA levels have an important role in coding reward and prediction of reward, in the motivational drive toprocure the reward, and in facilitating learning.1 It is also believed that DA codes not just for reward but for saliency, which, in addition to reward, includes aversive, novel, and unexpected stimuli. The diversity of DA effects is likely translated by the specific brain regions (limbic, cortical, and striatal) it modulates.Herein, we summarize findings from imaging studies that used positron emission tomography (PET) to investigate the role of DA in the reinforcing effects of drugs, the long-term brain changes in drug-addicted subjects, and the vulnerability to addiction. Though most of the PET studies on addiction have focused on DA, it is clearthat drug-induced adaptations in other neurotransmitters (ie, glutamate, γ-aminobutyric acid, opioids, and cannabinoids) are also involved, but the lack of radioligands has limited their investigation.

 Serotonin

Drug addiction is a major psychiatric disease with, currently, notruly effective treatment available. Drug addiction involves manydifferent behaviors. Given the involvement of serotonin (5-HT) invirtually all behaviors and brain plasticity at cellular, molecularand systems levels, one can readily assume a 5-HT contribution tothe establishment and maintenance of addiction-related behaviors andtheir neuronal mechanisms. In this chapter we review the role of the5-HT system in addiction-related behaviors for major addictivedrugs, such as cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, MDMA(ecstasy), morphine, heroin and nicotine. We discuss the impact ofthese drugs on 5-HT activity, and how this activity might translateinto behavior by activating 5-HT receptors. The effects ofserotonergic manipulations on addiction-related behaviors in animalmodels and in human therapy of addiction are reviewed. Intensiveresearch has shown that drug-induced 5-HT activation does not have auniform ‘proactive effect’ (i.e., neurochemical activity that

Free Smile, Shake hands, and hugs | FRESH Campaign 6

triggers behavioral activation) on addiction-related behavior, butmight often serve a 'counteractive function', thus limiting theexpression of behavior which is driven by other neurochemicaleffects of the drug. 5-HT receptors can have very different effectson addiction-related behaviors depending on their localization inthe brain, the cell type, and the synapse. Some receptor populationsdo appear to have proactive effects – i.e., translate the drug-induced 5-HT increase into addiction-related behaviors – whileothers counteract them, or are not involved. While acknowledgingthis complexity will be important for an understanding of the 5-HTrole in drug addiction, it also provides a challenge to the use of5-HT system components for therapy in humans.

UNIT 3: FREE SMILE, SHAKE HANDS AND HUGS

Basic Idea

Usually a lot of teens are not initiative and proactive. Therefore,

we would like to create campaigns that are simple, straightforward

and most important is FREE. After some time, we finally got a

brilliant idea. We will create a silent campaign of free family-

based. Because the campaign is using universal languange, then no

obstacle because the different of languages. Because of that, this

campaign can be done throughout the country in the world. The

campaign will involve a wide range of movement in the face and

hands. Here's the essay:

Free Smile, Shake hands, and hugs | FRESH Campaign 9

1.SmileSmile is convient as the most powerful way to defuse

anger. Because, smilecould makes our happiness hormon that

called depomine and serotonin will increase. It was said if

people who smile in the school yearbook tend to be more

successful in his career and marriage in his future than

students who do not smile. According to research conducted by

Ernest l. Abel of Wayne State University, Detroit, United

States found that people who smile often have a longer

lifespan than with a less smile. Because of that, try to smile

to others to make them happy, but could also make us happy.

The key is we have to be happy first before making others

happy. If we’re happy, we’re easily could spread the happiness

disease to others.

2.Shake handsshake hands not only describes a person or how

polite decorum of his people but also could make our nerve

system in our hands feel comfortable, warm, and secure . The

way of shaking hands could reflect the nature of a person. In

some countries, the symbol of forgiving is indicated by

shaking hands. Lots of ways to shake hands in the world, each

country may have a way of shaking his hand. There are

unique, but there are also strange. But it's become typical of

the country itself.

3.Hugsafamily therapist in Virginia once said, "in order to

survive, we need 4 hugs a day. For health, we need 8 hugs per

day. For growth, youthful, happiness, we need 12 hugs per day.

"

Is it true that the arms have a great power to be able to

create a healthy, long life, and youthful?Various studies show

therapy could cure diseases embrace the physical andable to

Free Smile, Shake hands, and hugs | FRESH Campaign 10

cope with stress, depression and others.

People who are adopted, or embraced, feel the power of love

that surrounds them. This strength makes ourimmunity increase.

If we embrace people who stress because bullied or other, then

their stress will gone and they will be calm.

Description of FRESH

Free Smile, Shake Hands and Hugs (FRESH) is campaigns underway

to create a happier world by do simple and free things, such

as smile, shake hands, and hugs. This activity invites anyone

to participate (young, old, boy, girls, the have, the poor).

After following the campaign , we hope everyone will deploy

all the goodness that exists in this campaign.

Purpose

By being happy we could not having a negative thought, instead

we’re going to have a positive energy thet could make a  great

power to build a better world.

Target

If we’re always having a happy heart, we’re sure could

reducing negative behaviors among teenagers such as bullying.

Approach

By making a video that inspiring, using universal languange,

and also campaigning via social media such as twitter,

facebook, etc.

UNIT 4: CAMPAIGN

Free Smile, Shake hands, and hugs | FRESH Campaign 11

Direct Campaign

Stage 1

We’re starting the campaign at our school as we knew the

environment. We gave the pins to our friends and put the poster at

the school wall magazine. We Campaigned when the student were

gathering in the hall. We asked them to smile, shake hands, and hugs

their friends and explaning what the 3 actions has huge impact to

make theirself happier in life.

Stage 2

We interviewed several friends and ask their opinion about

happiness. And also asking about the effect of the smile, shake

hands and hugs.

Our Poster :

Our pin :

Media Campaign

Stage 3

We created an account on the various social media. Like twitter,

facebook, youtube, and blogs. We will be uploading videos, photos,

or text which could make the teens are inspired to always have

“FRESH” in their mind. And make the whole world know and do a FRESH

campaign.

Stage 4

We will also communicate with teenagers via chat applications, such

as BlackBerry Messanger (BBM), whatsapp, line, kakao talk, and e-

mail. So that they can ask for advice or want to ask things that are

covered and don't want to be known by others.

AFTER CAMPAIGN

Based on the diagram above, we can see that people are starting to be aware of the common interest.

Before the campaign, the most frequent activities that the students do is shake hands. It's natural because every morning, student council and teachers lined up in front of the school for giving a“good morning” greeting to the arrived student. Where smile took second place and third ranks is hugs. They maybe still think that ' hugs ' can only be done for lovers. Actually ' hugs ' can be done byanyone to anyone such as friends, family, and others.

After the campaign, while the position of smile and shake hands already balanced. Although the rate is still considered low enough hugs, but at least it has experienced considerable improvement.

We asked several people, why they didn’t hug each other before. Mostof them answer that they shy, because people in Indonesia is not too‘friendly’ with hugs. We see that most student accept the “goodmorning” greeting from student council and teacher with emotionlessface. So we asked them, if our school didn’t have the “good morning”greeting, will people smile to each other? Shake hands will still bealright because if we meet teacher we will shake our hands withthem. They say, they will still smile to each other because inIndonesia, smile is a must.

Do you agree?

Questionare:

1. Do you agree that smile, shake hands and hugs can change our lives for the better?

Based on the above diagram, 60 out of 100 would agree and 40 others disagree.

2. Did you feel a strange sense of suddenly appearing for grantedif you smile, shake hands or embraced?

It’s called the sense of happy or unhappy. Usually a sense of happy or unhappy unpredictable appearances. Do you want to be happy?Do you want to love? Smile, then the world will smile upon you.

We asked them what the most things that makes them happy out of that three (smile, shake hands, and hugs). We tell them to take out the “good morning” greeting, or other things that happen in school. Most of them answer ‘smile’ because it’s really easy to practice. While, shake hands and hugs is behind ‘smile’ with the same position.

 Conclusion

After having a short campaign about how’s to make other’s happy,

we’re strongly believe that “FRESH” could make other’s happy,

because it’s simple, universal, and free. Being happy have to be

started with orself then we can spread the happiness disease to

other’s.

So Let’s start our day with smile and be happy.

Thank you
