Dear Wine Lover, Due to the COVID-19 virus, we are unable to hold an auction with public for our June 14th event in Amsterdam. We will organise the auction LIVE ONLINE at the A’DAM Tower, famous for its great view over Amsterdam. Surely, we will miss your presence as a loyal customer, the atmosphere in the auction room and last but not least the wine tasting and the delicious food from our caterer EsQuisine. On the other hand we are pleased to have so many good and loyal friends in the wine industry. Those friends donated a nice selection of wines of which the full hammer price and buyers premium is donated to a restaurant in the Netherlands of the buyers choice Fortunately, there are other ways for you to participate in the auction, like: · LIVE - Winefield’s Website (see page 8) · LIVE - Winefield’s App (see page 11) · Written bid by email at [email protected] · By phone: contact our office at +31 (0)20 4702161 · WhatsApp: contact us 24/7 at +31 (0)20 4702161 You can find the full auction catalogue on our website and in the bidding App. At this auction there is a flat rate of 20% buyer's premium applicable for all buyers. Please make sure that you don’t miss out the chance to bid for the great wines on offer. As you are used to, we managed to collect a great selection for direct drinking or keeping of the best wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy and many other regions.

Domaine Robert Chevillon is tucked away in the back streets of Nuits-Saint-Georges. One can trace the roots of the domaine back to around 1900 when Symphorien Chevillon started out with 30 acres of vines around the town. Since then the domaine has grown to cover 13 hectares, all located around Nuits-Saint-Georges. It carries the name of Symphorien Chevillon’s great-grandson, Robert, who is the father of Bertrand and his brother Denis, who now manage the estate. According to Bertrand, the Vaucrains vineyard produces extremely powerful wines, due to the soil: “Vaucrains is a very muscular wine. The soil is very stony. So much that it is really difficult to dig holes for the vineyard posts.” As such, the 1996 vintage was awarded 95 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

In 1831, Bernard Bichot founded a wine trading business in his name in Monthélie. His son, Hippolyte, succeeded him and bought the first vines in Volnay, already convinced that upstream control was essential. His son, Albert Bichot, the first to bear the name, gave the family business new momentum in the late 19th century and settled in the centre of Beaune once and for all in 1912. The second Albert Bichot, who was born in 1900, was a pioneer of international commerce. North America, Asia, Oceania… He travelled incessantly in order to introduce his wines, which were already recognized as being among the best, to wine lovers around the world. In the second half of the 20th century, his four sons, Albert, Bernard, Bénigne and Jean-Marc, inherited this know-how. A new era of expansion began with the construction of a large ageing cellar, a new bottling centre and winery. One of these wineries is Domaine du Clos-Frantin, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, where this wine is made. The nose is elegant, racy and complex and develops notes of green tea, cigar, prunes, dates and rosemary. Rich, full-bodied and powerful, this wine is balanced and velvety. The finish is long and aromatic.

Château Mouton Rothschild took its present name after it was acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, from the English branch of the famous dynasty, in 1853. For many years, despite the increasingly acknowledged quality of its wine, Mouton aroused little interest among its owners, unwilling to make the journey to a then-neglected region. So it was a red-letter day when, in 1922, Baron Nathaniel’s great grandson Baron Philippe de Rothschild, barely 20 years old, took in hand the destiny of an estate to which he would devote his entire life. Baron Philippe fought to enhance the image of Mouton Rothschild and secure its elevation to First Growth status, which he finally accomplished in 1973, thus ending what he called ‘la grande injustice.’ Today Mouton Rothschild is generally regarded as being the most powerful wine of the Médoc, and this is reflected in both its popularity and its price.

This famous 39 hectare estate is regarded by most as being the best in Saint-Émilion, and has a long and complicated history. Most of the vineyards were actually purchased by the Ducasse family from Château Figeac in the 1830s. At that time, Figeac was a massive estate comprising 200 hectares! What makes Château Cheval Blanc unique is its proximity to Pomerol; in fact, their vines border those of Château L’Évangile and La Conseillante is a neighbour. Another reason is its curious composition: Cabernet Franc is actually the main grape in the assemblage, accounting for roughly 50% of planting, the rest being Merlot and a tiny bit of Cabernet Sauvignon. As such, Cheval Blanc is the greatest Cabernet Franc driven wine in the world. Accessible in its youth yet possessing incredible longevity, the 2005 vintage is among the very best ever made.

A leper colony once existed in the area surrounding the Château, and it is from this that Canon La Gaffelière dervies its name, ‘gaffet’ being french for leper. The estate’s upward trajectory really does take a steep jump in 1985, when Count Stephan von Neipperg took the reins. Indeed, Andrew Jefford, in The New France (2002), describes von Neipperg as one of the two most influential of Bordeaux’s present-day proprietors. Today the estate is managed by the Count’s son, Stephan von Neipperg, who lives in part of the Château just above the barrel rooms. The improvements the von Neippergs brought to this estate did not go unnoticed, as in 2012 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière was promoted to a Saint-Émilion, 1er Grand Cru Classé B status.

Situated on the south-facing slopes of Saint-Émilion, this estate takes its name from church bells that could be heard chiming from the original plots of vineyards, amplified by the natural amphitheater the hill of Saint-Émilion creates. The church bell has always been a symbol of Angélus featured on all its labels. In the last thirty years, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest has constantly challenged practices and techniques for the benefit of his land and the unique characteristics of the wines grown on it, enabling Château Angélus to be recognised as one of the foremost properties in its appellation area. This recognition has been documented in one classification after another. In 1996 Angélus was promoted to a Premier Grand Cru Classé B, and in 2012 was promoted to a Classé A, joining an elite family of three others – Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie.

Louis Gaspard d’Estournel inherited Cos and Pomys in 1791. Deeply convinced that the terroir of the hill of Cos was exceptional, he took many risks to enhance his estate, investing massively in the acquisition of neighbouring land. He fought endlessly to promote his estate, even if it meant having to sell it to finance his debts before acquiring it once again. Sadly, he passed away two years before the 1855 Bordeaux Classification officially recognized Cos d’Estournel as a Second Growth Estate. According to Robert Parker, who tasted this vintage in 2018 and awarded it 98 points, the 2005 is now ready to drink, as he specifies the drinking window to be 2018-2045. In other words, drink or keep!

Château de Beaucastel has a longstanding history in Châteauneuf du Pape. The winery is named after the Beaucastel family which lived in this region in the 16th century. Records show a Pierre de Beaucastel buying a barn and some associated land at Coudoulet in 1549, and this land is still part of Château de Beaucastel’s holdings. In the 19th century, when the Phylloxera epidemic struck the region, the owner decided not to replant the vineyards but rather to sell the property. In 1909, it was bought by Pierre Tramier, and the vineyards were rebuilt under his ownership. After him, his son-in-law Pierre Perrin took over management and expanded Château de Beaucastel’s vineyard holdings considerably. The property has stayed in the Perrin family since. The 2013 vintage of this top varietal Roussanne has been embraced by critics, garnering 97 points from Robert Parker.

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Brut Rosé 2006 This exceptional champagne is made from 30% Chardonnay Grands Crus from the prestigious Côte des Blancs region and 70% Pinot Noir from the Grands Crus from the Montagne de Reims region. The Comtes de Champagne Rosé owes the secret of its uniqueness to the 15% of still red wine which is added to the blend. It is the Champagne House’s most rare cuvée. Its fruity character and smooth, caressing taste make it a delicious luxury to only be enjoyed in small sips. Another legend, Rudolph Noureev, said, “When I drink Comtes de Champagne rosé, I no longer dance, I fly...” “Beautiful aromas here, a hint of meatiness and damp forest floors, then the small red fruits, very clear indeed, a haunting glimpse of something floral, like rose-hip perhaps in this blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Dry, delicate, but there is good length and it does have substance and a touch of meaty, earthy character beneath the charm of the fruit. Drinking now.” –Tom Cannavan, 2017

Château Thuerry is a modern winery from the Provence, the most southern part of France. The domain has 340 hectares of vineyards, situated between three villages of Villecroze, Flayosc and Tourtour. This unique location offers protection from the wind and is ideally located in position to the sun. All grapes are picked manually. By combining tradition with the modern winemaking techniques, their wines have found their way to connoisseurs in many countries. This blend from Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon, aged in oak barrels for twelve months (a third French oak and two thirds American oak) to refine the tannins and to bring a note of oak to the flavour to accompany the power of this wine. Exception with its strength and warmth is the ultimate icon of Chateau Thuerry. Its fruit, volume, structure, persistence and balance make this wine one of the best available in the Provence. To be served at ambient temperature combined with meat dishes or just for a moment of absolute pleasure.

The character of Robert Weil Rieslings is marked by the mineral-rich soils of the vineyards. These elegant, complex wines offer pronounced fruitiness with nuanced flavours and aromas. They embody a perfect interplay of fine yet firm acidity with natural sweetness and extract. Kiedrich Turmberg and Kiedrich Gräfenberg, the estate’s top vineyards, are among the finest sites in the Rheingau. Sourced from vineyards neighbouring their top hillside sites, these wines are classic Rheingau Rieslings that reflect the unique terroir of the region, as well as the distinctive, ultra-classy style of this legendary estate. Jancis Robinson awarded the 2005 Trockenbeerenauslese 19 out of 20 points: “Almost orange/tawny. Nutty, quite developed nose. Full and broad and very syrupy with some toast on the finish. Rather glamorous and exciting and well balanced but very much more evolved than most.”

At least five generations linked to wine forged the family spirit of Marqués de Cáceres. Exiled in France due to the Spanish Civil War, Enrique Forner founded a similar business in 1952, in the Rhône and Loire valleys, and in 1963 he bought two properties in the Haut Médoc region, Château Camensac and Château Larose Trintaudon, convinced that he would be able to make some of the world’s finest wines. He returned to Spain in 1968 and, given that a century before wine-producers and merchants from Bordeaux had chosen La Rioja when fleeing the phylloxera plague, he opted for La Rioja and Cenicero, in the heart of the La Rioja Alta sub-region, to continue his great dream. Enrique Forner turned to his friend, Professor Emile Peynaud, a true revolutionary of winegrowing and winemaking in Bordeaux in the 1970s and 1980s, in order to steep La Rioja in the same reformist spirit. Today Marqués de Cáceres is widely regarded as one of the best producers in Rioja, producing many different wines, but for this particular cuvée, every vintage is dedicated to different fashion designers, like Margarita Freire, Pilar Vera and Rocio Peralta.

For over two centuries the name of DOW has been associated with the finest Port from the vineyards of the Upper Douro Valley. Throughout the 20th Century and into the 21st, the Symington family has built on the legacy of the preceding Silva and Dow families. Generations of Symington winemakers have worked at the Dow’s vineyards: Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, creating from them Dow’s superbly concentrated wines that are intense and tannic when young, maturing towards a superlative racy elegance with age and scented with violet and mint aromas. Dow’s attractive and distinctive drier finish is the recognisable hallmark of the wines from this great Port house. The 2007 vintage was particularly successful, garnering 96 points from Robert Parker, and 100 points from Wine Spectator.

Into Neck:

Normal level for all wines. In wines over 10 years of age, this level suggests excellent provenance. Rarely used, except to emphasize a particularly good fill level when other fill levels in the same lot are less than perfect.

Base Neck: A common fill level at which many Châteaux release their wine. For wines of any age, this level suggests excellent provenance.

Top-Shoulder: Again, a common fill level at which many Châteaux release their wine. For wines of any age, this level suggests excellent provenance.

Very High Shoulder: Acceptable fill level for wines 8 or more years of age. Suggests proper storage conditions throughout its life. Natural occurrence for wines of this age.

Into Neck Base Neck Top Shoulder Very High Shoulder High Shoulder High to Mid Shoulder Mid Shoulder Low Shoulder Below Shoulder

High Shoulder: Usually not a problem for wines in excess of 20 years of age. This level may be caused by easing of the cork combined with natural evaporation. Check the clarity and the color of the wine in the bottle as a secondary indicator of provenance.

High-to-Mid-Shoulder: Refer to High Shoulder and Mid-Shoulder level descriptions.

Mid Shoulder: May suggest ullage during the life of the wine due to either easing of the cork or inconsistent storage conditions. Not abnormal for wines 30 or more years of age. As additional indicators of risk, definitely inspect clarity and color of the wine in the bottle, as well as condition of the cork.

Low Shoulder and Below: Suggests poor provenance. Definitely a risk and generally not saleable, with exception given to rare bottlings and/or labels. Not recommended for consumption.

Wines are described in this catalogue as accurately as possible. Buyers are urged to make allowances for slight variations in ullages and conditions. No guarantee is made regarding provenance, and no returns will be accepted.
