Dear Distinguished Guests and Conference Participants, On behalf of the International University Malaya-Wales (IUMW), I would like to welcome you to the International Academic Conference (IAC 2021). IUMW is only 8 years old, and this is the very first academic conference of this magnitude that we have hosted, so we could not be prouder or more honoured to have such renowned institutions, partners and speakers working alongside us for the occasion. Over the past few decades, there have been tremendous digital disruptions to economies and societies in both advanced and emerging economies. When the world came to an almost halt due to the lockdown of major cities and restrictions on people’s movement to halt the spread of Covid-19, the scale of disruption to the way of life in both businesses and communities continued, and the need for digital transformation was accelerated in a way the world had never seen before. To be competitive and stay relevant, organisations must move with the times. Their long-standing success may well be defined by their ability to adapt, and how well they apply the use of technology in their business strategies. Successful digital adoption can transform businesses, careers, and livelihoods, for the better. Digitalising the nation and society call for close collaboration between many sectors, not least, academia and industry. It is within such context the IAC 2021 ‘Digitalisation In Transformation: Bridging Academia & Industry’ brings together relevant stakeholders from both industry and

academia to discuss, debate, present research findings, and work closely together to identify what lies ahead in the unpredictable world. While industry often focuses on addressing solutions that are of near-term commercial value and academia focuses on building new knowledge through research and imparting education to students, the combination can yield the accelerated development of new breakthroughs. Partnerships between the two will be instrumental to advancing research and knowledge and creating a skilled workforce. Audiences at IAC 2021 are encouraged to interact, share and be part of the conversation. We hope the conference will bring real value to attendees of all backgrounds from a variety of sectors, as well as create opportunities to forge new networks, partnerships, collaborations and connections that can thrive far beyond the three-day event. We wish to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to IUMW’s management and staff for their support and the conference committee members for their relentless effort to ensure the smooth organisation of this event. Our deepest appreciation also goes to our speakers, university partners, sponsors, reviewers and delegates for their support towards this conference. Finally, we hope you enjoy the conference and thank you for your participation.

The International University of Malaya-Wales is proud to host the first International Academic Conference 2021 (IAC 2021), a virtual conference event taking place between 26th-28th October 2021. The IAC 2021 is the coming together of researchers and industry. It’s a place to gather and share groundbreaking ideas, discoveries and experiences on a variety of thought leadership topics covered under the conference theme, “Digitalisation in Transformation: Bridging Academia & Industry”.

For the past few decades, there have been tremendous digital disruptions to economies and societies in both advanced and emerging economies. When the world came to an almost halt due to the lockdown of major cities and restrictions on people’s movement to halt the spread of Covid-19, the scale of disruption to the way of life in both businesses and communities continued.

The technological disruptions have led to massive changes, through the supply chain of activities across all industries, with organisations having to deal with huge changes in the production and delivery of services. Universities today are committed to delivering a student-centred experience, reflecting the needs of the next generation of learners and meeting the needs of rapidly evolving industries and changes in the labour market.

IAC 2021 is an opportunity to reflect on whether the disruptions have bridged the skills gaps between industry needs and student experience in embracing digital changes; and what can be done to address the requirements and demands of the dynamic industry. The conference also aims to empower individuals and businesses in embracing digital processes to stay competitive, as well as strengthen the cooperation and transfer of innovations from research labs and journals into industrial exploitation.
