A recount text is a text which

describes how an event happened

in the past.

It can be personal, historical, and

biographical. Personal recount

concerns a personal writer’s

experience like holiday time, school

moments, and an unforgettable

experience.

The event usually occurred in a sequence

of time.

Struktur (Generic Structure of Recount Text)

1. Orientation (Pembuka)

Memberikan informasi mengenai latar belakang yang dibutuhkan untuk

dapat memahami sebuah teks, seperti siapa yang terlibat, dimana hal

tersebut terjadi, serta kapan hal itu berlangsung.

2. Event (Isi)

Adalah sebuah rekaman kejadian yang berlangsung atau serangkaian acara

yang kemudian disusun dengan urutan kronologis.

Sebagai contoh: “In the first day… . And in the next day… . And in the

last day… .”

Di bagian tersebut juga terdapat komentar pribadi mengenai kejadian atau

peristiwa yang disebutkan.

3.Reorientation (Penutup/ kesimpulan)

Tahapan terakhir ini adalah tahapan pengulangan dari pengenalan yang ada

pada tahap pertama. Pengulangan ini akan dirangkum seluruh peristiwa

yang diceritakan.

Kalian dapat menulis opini atau komentar kepada peristiwa yang sudah

terjadi.

• Memakai kalimat past tense. Contoh: I spent my

summer in Jakarta and I was very happy. (Kejadian

lampau atau sudah terjadi).

• Memakai action verbs. Contoh : spent, went, brought,

run, eat, go, took, dll

• Memakai adverb serta adverbial phrase untuk

menerangkan waktu, tempat serta cara. Contoh: last

month, in Malang, lately, etc.

• Fokus pada objek tertentu. Sebagai contoh saya

(penulis).

• Memakai conjunction serta time connectives untuk

menjelaskan urutan kejadian/ waktu. Contoh: and,

after that, or, on Monday, on Sunday, etc.

A Trip to the Zoo

Yesterday my family went to the zoo to see the elephant and other

animal. When we got to the zoo, we went to the shop to buy some

food to give to the animals. After getting the food we went to the

nocturnal house where we saw birds and reptiles which only come

out at night.

Before lunch we went for a ride on the elephant. It was a thrill to

ride it. Dad nearly fell off when he let go of the rope. During lunch

we fed some birds in the park. In the afternoon we saw the

animals being fed.

When we returned home, we were tired but happy because we had so much fun.

ORIENTATION
