A Thanksgiving Dinner
by Maude M. Grant
Take a turkey, stuff it fat, Some of this and some of that.
Get some turnips, peel them well. Cook a big squash in its shell. Now potatoes, big and white,
Mash till they are soft and light. Cranberries, so tart and sweet, With the turkey we must eat. Pickles-yes-and then, oh my! For a dessert a pumpkin pie,
Golden brown and spicy sweet. What a fine Thanksgiving treat!
Thanksgiving Fun Facts
The first Thanksgiving was held in 1621 and be-
came a national holiday over 200 years later.
Each year, the president pardons a turkey and
spares it from being eaten for Thanksgiving.
Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the na-
tional bird, not the eagle.
Americans eat 46 million turkeys each Thanksgiv-
ing.
The heaviest turkey on record, according the Guin-
ness Book of Records, weighed 86 pounds.
The average turkey for Thanksgiving weighs 15
pounds.

GREAT JOB 2016 South Dakota Elementary Honor Choir!
The students of Dakota Valley did an excellent job on October 29th in Sioux Falls, SD at the 2016 South Dakota Elementary Honor Choir. The students listed below consist of
4th, 5th and 6th grade students that were selected by recorded audition. And just in case you couldn’t make it, the concert will be broadcasted on SDPB1-TV on Thanksgiving Day,
November 24th at 3:00 p.m. (2:00 MT).
Students in grades K-4 or younger may not attend school events such
as sporting events, concerts, plays, etc. unless they are
accompanied by an adult.
DVES SICK POLICY
If your child is running a fever (100+), or has vomited, they should not attend school until they are without a fever (without the assistance of medicine), or haven’t vomited for 24 hours.
If your child’s illness requires their absence from school for more than two days, they will need to be seen by our school nurse or a doctor’s note should be brought in to the school office.
Even if your child was sent home from school, you must call your child in as absent each day they will be out of school.
Winter Weather Guidelines for the
Elementary School
Students will go outside for recess when the temperature/wind chill is 10 degrees or
higher.
Please ALWAYS send hats, gloves, scarves, boots & snow pants along with them each day during the
cold, snowy, winter months.
Have your back-up plan in place for
canceled school due to winter
weather!
Congratulations to Braxton in Mrs. Kurtz’s Kindergarten class, Zoey in Mrs. Nagel’s 1st grade class, and Landon in Mrs. Marx’s
3rd grade class!
Their beautiful artwork was published in the November issue of Kid Scoop News.
Zoey’s name was drawn for a Poppin’ Bottles and Brushes cer-tificate!
Give these students a big congrats!!
