Comprehensive Prediction By Divisional Charts - an original research work.About theBook: Three distinguishing features of Hindu Astrology are divisional charts, dashasystems and yogas. This book deals with divisional charts. We all know the concept ofdivisional charts after we go through the Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra. lt is for the firsttime that the practical application of these are given. The book deals with all Parashari andnon Parashari divisional charts and brings out their predictive value and the technique. The highIights of the book are: 1 . Rules for examination of each divisional chart. 2. Housesignifications of divisional charts. 3. Linking of divisional charts. I hope that this book willbe helpful to all students and scholars of Astrology in sharping their predictiveaccuracy.About the Author: Shri Vinod Prakash Goel is a former officer of the IndianEngineering and has served with the Ministry of Defence, India. PrefaceOur Guruji Shri K. N. Rao asked me to write on divisional charts. This was aboutone year ago. This book is a result of his direction. I amgrateful to him for considering meworthy enough for this task.Divisional charts are the pride of Hindu astrology. They reflectthedepth of knowledge our ancients had. Each divisional chart is amagnified view of aspecific area of human life. Our seers haveadvised us to read each divisional chart in-depth to understand thehoroscope holistically. This study of divisional charts is presentedin twenty threechapters. These chapters deal with the sixteen divisions orshodashvargasof parashar. The four non parashar divisional charts arealso explained along with higherdivisional charts. An interestingchapter of inter linking of divisional charts is also included. The linkingof different divisional charts of one individual and of differentindividuals aregiven in a simple yet effective way. This linking is usefulto provide a complete picture ofthe horoscope.I am grateful to the faculty of Institute of Astrology, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, who taught me Hindu Astrology. I am grateful to thealmighty GOD for directing metowards Astrology. My special thanks to Sh. Narender Sagar for giving shape to thebookfrom my hand written notes.I will feel satisfied if readers are benefitted from this work.V.P. GoelS- 376 Greater Kailash Part 2New Delhi - 110048. Divisional Charts The effect of a horoscope should be predictedaccording to the strength in divisions of houses without which one cannot take even onestep in astrology.— SaravaliTrue. In this world thousands of birth take place in a span oftwo hours i. e. having same lagna. The horoscope will be indentical except for somevariations in the longitude of lagna and planets. All do not have same fate. The divisionalcharts seems to be an answer. The birth chart or the Rashi chart is the main chart. Eachsign is divided into predetermined divisions and according to the placement of planetsand Lagna in these finer divisions, we erect the divisional chart. The birth chart is thesource of light and direction. The divisional charts are the many diffracted rays carrying itsown definite waves. Each birth chart has a spark of divinity which makes special people.Yet these cannot be fully ascertained by astrological analysis and only divine canunderstand divine. How a divisional charts should be read. Different scholars havedifferent views. We are not going into a debate on these controversies. We are using thefollowing system in this presentation. The divisional charts are presented in the format ofhoroscope. The horoscopes are based on nirayana system with Lahiri or Chitrapakshaayanamsha. The divisional charts are analysed as independent chart also.Normal Parashariaspects are considered in the divisional charts also. Saravali have taken the aspectsbetween Sun, Mercury and Venus. These can be astronomically possible in divisionalcharts only. The Yogas formed in divisional charts give results in the ambit of the divisionalchart where they are formed.Dasha results are governed by divisional charts for timingthe events.Transits are applicable in divisional charts.Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra givessixteen vargas including the birth chart. These are listed above with their names and codal

Parashar has recommended the use all thesixteen divisions called shodasvargas. Minimum six vargas or shadvarga must be used forproper delineation. The four groups along with weightage of each divisional chart in thatgroup on a 20 point scale are given. The weightage of each chart is also called VimshopakBala.Vimshopak Bala1. This calculation needs two factors.Vimshopak Bala allotted to the particulardivisional chart in the scheme of shadvarga, saptgarga, dasvarga or shodashvarga inwhich we want to calculate it.Varga Vishwa Bala. This is allotted on the placement of each

planet in a sign in the divisional chart. This is based on the panchdha maitri.Varga VishwaBalaPlacementVarga Vishwa BalaOwn or Exaltation Sign20Ati Mitra Sign18MitraSign15Neutral Sign10Enemy Sign7Bitter Enemy Sign5Panchdha MaitriThe panchdha maitri(five fold) relation is normally worked out in the birth chart and this relation is applied inall divisional charts. This method is generally followed. The panchdha maitri is of two parts. The first part is the permanent relation or the naisargika maitri which is based on themooltrikona sign of a planet and is same for birth chart and divisional chart. The secondpart is the temporary friendship which depends upon the placement of planets withrespect to each other. Actually this part is changing with each divisional chart. Technicallythe panchadha maitri for each divisional chart will be unique to it.It is felt that we shouldwork out panchdha maitri relation for each divisional chart. The Varga Vimshopak Bala of aplanet is= (Vimshopak Bala Varga Vishwabal)20When a planet is in exaltation sign orown sign in any divisional chart, it gets the varga vimshopak bala which is equal tovimshopak bala of that chart. In other words it gets 100% strength in that divisional chart. The minimum varga vimshopak bala is 25% of the vimshopak bala of divisional chart andis given when the planet is in the sign of bitter enemy. From this mathematical calculationwe can derive the fact that any planet placed in exaltation, own, bosom friend, friend andneutral sign is capable of giving 100% to 50% results. This strength of a planet is for thatspecific divisional for which it is calculated. We would like to examine the combinedstrength of a planet in many divisional charts. This have been presented in a veryimportant way by clubbing benefic placement in more than one divisional charts in any ofthe four classification of vargas. The summary of these is given and is a very importantfactor.Any planet falling in the exaltation or in own sign in a divisional chart is consideredbeneficially placed. BPHS have identified this benefic placement of a planet in two or morevargas in the four classifications. These are given in the tabular form.ShadvargaBeneficPlacement in number of vargasKnownasTwoKumshukaThreeVayanjanaFourChaamarFiveChhatraSixKundalSaptavargaBeneficPlacement in number of vargasKnown asUpto SixSame asshadvargaSevenMukutDasvargaBenefic Placement in number of vargasKnown asTwoParijataThreeUttamFourGopurFiveSimhasanSixParavataSevenDevlokEightBrahmalokNineIravator Shakva VahanTenShridhamShodashvargaBenefic Placement in number of vargasKnownasTwoBhedkaThreeKusumFourNagpushpaFiveKandukSixKeralSevenKalpvrakshaEightChandan VanNinePoornaChandraTenUchchsevaraElevenDhanvantriTwelveSurya KantThirteenVidurmFourteenIndraAsanFifteenGan LokaSixteenSri VallabhaMantreshwar in Phaldeepika have followed thedasvarga classification but with a variation. The benefic positions are exaltation, own signand in friendly sign. The results given in Phaldeepika are listed below. These are bestowedwhen even one planet occupy two or more benefic positions in dasvarga scheme.positionsin dasvarga scheme.Parijat – Have many virtues, wealthy and honoured.Uttam – Clever, gentle and well behaved (mre vkpj.k)Gopur – Wealth of cows, land, houses and thinks wellof others.Simhasan – Lives like a king. Loved by king.Parvat – All luxuries like house,

vehicles, live in splendour.Devlok – King, governor, has name, fame (lqdhrhZ)Surlok(Brahmalok) – Very fortunate, maharaja.Iravat – Like Indra, many kings bow to him.Toillustrate the application of the method we take up the horoscope of Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He was born in a middle class family of rural Bihar and became the first president ofIndependent India. The placement of Jupiter in benefic signs in the dasvargaVargaSign inVargaConditionRemarksD1LeoAtimitraSun in 4th from JupD2LeoNeutralWithSunD3SagittariusOwn Sign-D7ScorpioAtimitraMars in 3rd fromJupD9CancerExaltedD10SagittariusOwn SignD12CapricornFriendSaturn in4thD16AquariusFriendSaturn in 10thD30SagittariusOwn SignD60LibraNeutralVenus in2ndclassification is given. The benefic placement is as per Phaldeepika. In dasvarga Jupiteris not occupying enemy sign in any of the divisional chart in dasvarga. It occupies eightbenefic positions. This position is termed as surlok or Brahmlok and gives the status ofMaharaja. Is this the method to reveal the divine blessing?Longitudes in divisionalchartThe longitude of Lagna and the planets can be derived for the divisional charts. Theprincipal behind it is “that a planet covers one sign of 30 degrees in one part of thedivisional chart.”For example each part of dashamsha is of three degrees. In this threedegrees of birth chart any planet covers one sign in dashamsha. The longitude of a planetin dashamsha is thus ten times of birth longitude. Two methods are given for working outthe longitudes in divisional charts. These are applicable to all divisional charts exceptParashari Trimshamsha.1st MethodTake the longitude of the Lagna or planet in the natalchart without the sign. The sign in D chart is already available.Multiply this degree/min/seconds by the number of the divisional chart for which the longitude is being calculated.Leave the completed signs and retain the degree/minutes/seconds as the longitude ofplanet for the divisional chart. For example if Sun is 13 degree 04 minutes in any sign. Welike to calculate the longitude of Sun in Saptamsha. Multiply 13 degree 4 minutes by 7. Weget 91 degrees and 28 minutes. From 91 degrees remove 90 degrees as three completedsign. The remainder is 1 degree 28 min. This is the longitude of Sun in Saptamsha.2ndMethodTake the longitude of the planet in the natal chart without the sign. Call it A.Notethe longitude where the preceding division of the divisional chart have ended. Call itB.Subtract B from A and take the remainder.Multiply the remainder by the number ofdivisional chart and the result will be the longitude of planet for the divisional chart.Weapply this method to calculate the longitude in Navamsha chart of the horoscope of Dr.Rajendra Prasad.PlanetLongitude(A)D M SPart Completed(B)D M S(A–B)D M S(A–B)9DM SLongitude in NavamshaD M SLagna18–45–2016–40–0002–05–2018–45–18018–48–00Sun19–09–3216–40–0002–29–3218–261–28822–25–48Moon23–54–5623–20–0000–34–5600–306–50405–14–24Mars05–56–1903–20–0002–36–1918–324–17123–26–51Mercury04–26–3903–20–0001–06–3908–54–35109–59–51Jupiter13–04–1710–00–0003–04–1727–36–15327–38–33Venus12–56–3510–00–0002–56–3518–504–31526–29–15Saturn29–15–0226–40–0002–35–0218–315–1823–15–18Rahu20–01–4620–00–0000–01–4600–09–41400–15–54Longitude in Parashari TrimshamshaIn Parashari Trimshamshaeach sign is divided into five unequal parts. This means that each part covers 30 degrees

Also note the span of the part in which the planet is placed and call it C.Thelongitude of planet in trimshamsha will be(A−B) 30/C.(Note – convert all longitudes inseconds)Longitudes of planets in trimshamsha are calculated for the horoscope of DrRajendra Prasad.PlanetLongitude(A)D M SPart Completed(B)D M S(A–B)D M SSpan ofPart(C)(A–B)30/CD M SLongitude in TrimshamshaD M SLagna18–45–2018–00–0000–45–207(272030)/7606003–12–1951Sun19–09–3212–00–0007–09–328(2577230)/8606026–50–45Moon23–54–5620–00–0003–54–565(1409630)/5606023–29–36Mars05–56–1905–00–0000–56–195(337930)/5606005–37–54Mer04–26–390–00–0004–26–395(1599930)/5606026–39–54Jupiter13–04–1710–00–0003–04–178(1105730)/8606011–31–03Venus12–56–3510–00–0002–56–358(1059530)/8606011–02–2011Saturn29–15–0225–00–0004–15–025(1530230)/5606025–30–12Rahu20–01–4620–00–0000–01–465(10630)/5606000–10–36General RulesCertain rules for examination of a divisional chart are given. Theserules are generally applicable on all divisional charts. The specific rules are given in thevarious chapters of each divisional charts.Good placement of a planet is the key factor ingiving good results of any chart. The Lagna lord of birth chart, Lagna lord of divisionalchart and the significator (Karaka) for the divisional chart should be well placed in thedivisional chart. The placement in trine or in angles is the best position. Next in order isthe placement in 2nd and eleventh house. Planets placed in 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th are notconsidered good even when they are exalted. Placement of karaka in the Lagna ofdivisional chart is not good. Other planets are considered good in Lagna. The exceptions torule 1 are also applicable. Mars in 6th in any divisional chart, Mercury in 8th in D4, Saturnin 8th in D8 and Venus in 12th in D9 are considered good. Mercury is favourable whenplaced in 8th in any divisional chart. The Lagna should be strong to get the effects of thedivisional chart. For example, a strong Lagna in D7 assures progeny. Many planetsaspecting Lagna also strengthen the Lagna. A subh kartari on Lagna gives beneficresults.Raj yoga present gives status to the signification of divisional chart. A Raj yoga inD12 denotes high status of parents.Dhana yoga multiplies the signification of divisionalchart. A dhana yoga in D9 can give wealthy spouse or many spouse. The effect of yogas ofdivisional chart operate throughout but the maximum results are felt during their dashaperiods.Any planet badly placed in birth chart and again remains in eighth or 12th housein divisional chart cannot give good effects of the divisional chart. Also if any planet isplaced in 8th house in birth chart or in navamsha chart and becomes the Lagna lord ofdivisional chart then the auspicious results of that divisional chart are not felt.VargottamLagna of any divisional chart gives highly auspicious effect provided the Lagna lord is alsowell placed. If it is placed in 6th, 8th or 12th house then gives dreams only.A planet who isdefeated in planetary war or is combust cannot give good results in divisional chart evenwhen it is well placed. Its placement in 6,8,12 in divisional chart is worst.A debilitated

planet when well placed in divisional chart gives good effect only when the debilitation iscancelled. The powerful status of planets are exaltation, vargottam, own sign and digbala. The term vargottam can be applied to all divisional charts. The effects of planets getsmodified by conjunction and aspects. For higher vargas when the accuracy of Lagna isdoubtful, we should take only natural benefics and malefics. To check the strength ofplanets, we can examine them from birth lagna sign in the higher divisional charts. If theLagna is placed in cruel divisions in shadvarga, then the person has short life, is poor andwicked. When Lagna lord of D1, D9, D12, D3 is exalted, own sign, in sign of friend or withbenefics the person have many virtues, is intelligent, kind, pure, lives like a king and iswealthy.Any significator of the divisional chart is not welcome in bad position from Lagnaof divisional chart. For example Sun in 8th house in D8 kills father.Planets in 3rd or 8thhouse are death like planets for divisional chart. In D9 it is for spouse, in D10 it is forprofession etc.The significator (karaka) of the divisional chart when placed in Lagna ofdivisional chart is like karaka in bhava and gives bad effect of the divisional chart. Mercuryin Lagna of D24 will spoil education. Mars or Jupiter in Lagna of D3 will affect the coborns.Venus in Lagna in D9 is bad for spouse. Sun or Moon in Lagna of D12 is bad for father ormother. Jupiter in Lagna of D7, progeny is affected etc. These effects get multiplied whenthese are associated with malefics or lords of 3rd, 8th house. The benefic association cangive relief.Papakartari or subh kartari is applicable in divisional chart especially on theLagna and the specific significator house.Rahu, Ketu or 8th lord of divisional chart placedin the Lagna of divisional chart and the sign rising is a mooltrikona sign of any planet, itcause stress in the affairs of divisional chart. For timing of events, dasha period can beseen in the divisional charts along with birth chart. For auspicious events, the sub periodsof a well placed and strong planet with reference to Lagna of divisional chart, should beselected.BPHS states that “the divisions falling in the signs owned by the lords of anglesfrom its own arudha are considered as good divisions. The divisions of the planets whichare combust, defeated in war, debilitated, are weak or in bad awastha are destroyers ofauspicious combination.”If the lagna rising in any divisional chart is the sign of a combustplanet then the good significations of that division are not realised.

Theserules are generally applicable on all divisional charts. The specific rules are given in thevarious chapters of each divisional charts.Good placement of a planet is the key factor ingiving good results of any chart. The Lagna lord of birth chart, Lagna lord of divisionalchart and the significator (Karaka) for the divisional chart should be well placed in the

divisional chart. Its placement in 6,8,12 in divisional chart is worst.A debilitatedplanet when well placed in divisional chart gives good effect only when the debilitation iscancelled. The benefic association cangive relief.Papakartari or subh kartari is applicable in divisional chart especially on theLagna and the specific significator house.Rahu, Ketu or 8th lord of divisional chart placed

in the Lagna of divisional chart and the sign rising is a mooltrikona sign of any planet, itcause stress in the affairs of divisional chart.

Haf, “An incredibly comprehensive book indeed. I have very very high standards when itcomes to Vedic books. I've been disappointed by most. This one is worth it.It has aphenomenal amount of detail, with example charts. Definitely worth studying.”

Dr. Solon, “Superb and just amazing. WOW!!! A great contribution to advance the cause ofdivisional charts. The Author has done a great job in explaining how to examine divisionalcharts. Thank you for a superb job. The best book on Divisional Charts...”

Tony Willis, “Does What It Says on the Tin. An excellent book. The title says it all –‘Comprehensive Prediction by Divisional Charts’. This is exactly what the book contains. Itopens with a description of the rationale of divisional charts, ending with a useful outlineof the general rules governing the interpretation of divisional charts. There is even ahelpful vade mecum covering the birth chart, designated D1. There follows anexamination of divisional charts ranging from the hora (D2) to the shashtiamsha (D60),and going on to some much higher divisional charts, such as the dwadashamsha-dwadashamsha (D144), all accompanied by example horoscopes with clear interpretationsattached to them.Where there are alternative ways of calculating a divisional chart, allmethods are given, each with its own example chart. There are six different ways ofcalculating the D2 and this book covers them all.I bought the book to supplement myunderstanding of the navamsha chart (D9). I wasn’t disappointed. There are no specificrules given for interpreting the navamsha; these are covered by the general rules given inthe opening chapter. What there are, however, are specific rules pertaining to marriage –early marriage, late marriage, multiple marriages and more, including chart comparisonwith a view to marriage. Having studied Parasara’s system of astrology almost exclusively, exposure to Nadi methods of interpreting the navamsha has presented me with ways ofextracting further information from the navamsha for which I am very grateful. It is not abook for the beginner. It is written in Indian English, but as so many texts on Vedicastrology are in that idiom, I assume this will not prove a block to readers’ understanding. As far as I am aware, there is nothing else out there like this book.”

Ebook Tops Reader, “Like it!. Good book, need to read with care, not for beginners. Givesmany hints to be more successful reading charts. Not very beginners.”

Sandip Manna, “One of the best book. Thank you so much Amazon..Packaging is verygood and deliver very fast..Author describe the technique very well..k.n rao and v.p goelsir..done great job for astrology student..don't take it twice go for it”

Sundar Rajan, “The best book on divisional charts I have seen so far.. Literature ondivisional charts are rare and difficult to get by. Sri Goel ji has fulfilled a long felt needamong students and practitioners of Vedic Astrology by giving a detailed step-by-stepknowledge of how to understand, interpret and analyse each of the varga charts. He hasincluded many more vargas than the shodashavargas of Maharshi Parashar . He has alsoincluded chapters on how to link all charts for interpreting the role and strength of aparticular planet in all the vargas. This book is a must-be-read one for any student ofVedic Astrology.”

The book by V. P. Goel has a rating of 5 out of 4.3. 158 people have provided feedback.
