INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMPANY

We are a Polish company that designs and manufactures transformers, inductive

components, filters and low and medium voltage power supplies. The dynamic

development of the company allows us to stand out from the competition.

We offer our clients support and technical assistance during the selection and operation

of devices. We employ experienced engineering and production staff, thanks to which

we can undertake the implementation of technically advanced tasks. In cooperation with

research centres, we constantly improve the production technology. This cooperation

also gives us the opportunity to use innovative materials in our projects. We deliver our

devices to clients representing many demanding industries, incl. railway, mining, maritime

and medical. Our line reactors and filters are widely used in systems that improve the

quality of electricity (reactive power compensation, electric drives).

The company has implemented a quality management system compliant with the ISO

9001: 2015 standard, expanded with the quality requirements obligatory for suppliers for

the railway industry ISO/TS 22163: 2017 (IRIS) and an environmental management system

compliant with the ISO 14001: 2015 standard.

The TRAFECO company offers high-quality single and three-phase low and medium

voltage transformers. They find numerous industrial applications operating in the most

difficult environmental conditions and all climatic zones.

Our transformers power, among others, surgery and treatment rooms in hospitals, they

operate in drive systems of rail vehicles and are a source of energy for mining longwall

shearers.

A controlled production process, high quality standards, innovative design and

construction solutions combined with the use of modern magnetic and construction

materials allow us to meet the technical requirements of all our customers.

As part of internal development works and thanks to cooperation with numerous

research centres, we introduce our own innovative design and technological solutions to

production, consistently improving the parameters of our transformers.

Universal three-phase power transformers are designed to supply electrical devices with the required voltage. They can

have several primary and secondary windings. The windings can provide additional control taps on the supply and load

side. In order to optimize the price of the device, transformers with rated power Sn≥15kVA can be manufactured using

aluminium windings.

Converting transformers are designed to work in power electronic systems. The windings of converting transformers

are resistant to the effects of higher harmonics of current. The core of this type of transformer works with reduced

induction, which reduces the losses caused by the influence of higher frequencies. We manufacture transformers for

any power and required voltage values.

TRANSFORMERS

Medical version isolation transformers are intended for supplying medical and hospital rooms. They are subject to

very high technical requirements guaranteeing safety and reliability. No-load currents, insulation leakage currents

and transformer switch-on current are limited. Separation is carried out by a screen and double insulation. The

transformers on the secondary side have an additional 2M tap for connecting an insulation condition indicator. The

standard equipment are temperature sensors built into the winding.

Three-phase marine transformers are intended to supply control and lighting circuits on ships or in port docks. The

transformer windings may have additional control taps on the supply and load side. The housing construction enables

quick access to the device terminals.

TRANSFORMERS

The Scott transformer circuit consists of two connected single-phase transformers. The transformer windings are

connected in such a way as to ensure their uniform load. The Scott transformer system enables the supply of high-

power single-phase loads from a three-phase network while maintaining symmetrical network load.

Three-phase railway transformers are designed to supply electrical devices of the railway infrastructure with the

required voltage. They are also used as components of rail vehicles. Transformers dedicated to operation in difficult

operating conditions have a reinforced mechanical structure and are secured with additional protective impregnation

layers.

Three-phase mining transformers are designed to supply control systems and electrical devices used in the mining

industry, including circuit breakers and longwall shearers. In order to adjust the dimensions, in the case of higher power

devices, optional versions with the use of water cooling are available.

Three-phase autotransformers are a special type of transformers in which there are no galvanically separated primary

and secondary windings. Autotransformers compared to transformers at the same power are smaller and lighter but

have a much lower short-circuit impedance. They are used to regulate voltage levels, power electrical devices, start

motors, etc. The autotransformer winding can have many control taps.

CHOKES

Inductive chokes constitute a large group of TRAFECO products. Our company is able

to design and manufacture an inductive component designed to work in almost any

industrial application. Numerous applications in various systems and operating conditions

cause the chokes to vary in terms of parameters and design. The energy smoothing and

energy storage chokes used in power electronics are subjected to high-frequency current

components. The construction of the cores of these chokes has been modified in order

to limit additional losses from high frequency currents.

The effect of currents with harmonic frequencies on the core and winding of the driving

chokes, operating at the input and output of inverters, causes additional losses on the

basis of eddy current and hysteresis. Moreover, in high power and higher frequency

chokes the phenomena causing additional losses increase - the skin effect and the

proximity effect. The design of the windings and cores of these chokes eliminates these

interactions as precisely as possible.

Similar interactions occur in chokes used in power engineering and in reactive power

compensation or filtration. For inductive elements operating in harmonic filters, their

inductance characteristics as a function of current are required to be maximally linear.

Maintaining a linear course of inductance is difficult and requires special technological

measures that prevent local saturation of the core. TRAFECO chokes are designed to

meet these requirements.

Three-phase line chokes are used in drive systems powered and regulated by means of inverters. Line chokes are

installed on the inverter power supply. The choke impedance in combination with the network impedance at the inverter

connection point limits the harmonic amplitudes of the current consumed from the network. In case of cooperation

with a thyristor converter, the line chokes limit the propagation of commutation disturbances.

Three-phase motor chokes are used in drive systems supplied and regulated by means of inverters. Motor chokes

work at the output of the inverters. They limit the values of capacitive currents flowing through the cable capacitance,

relieving the inverter and softening the steepness of the rise of du/dt voltage pulses, protecting the cable and motor

insulation.

The three-phase du/dt chokes are used in drive systems supplied and regulated by means of inverters. The du/dt

chokes installed at the output of the inverters reduce the steepness of the du/dt pulses of the voltage supplying the

motor. This way they protect the insulation of the power cable and the motor.

Three-phase compensation chokes are designed to compensate for reactive power generated during the operation of

extensive cable networks or other high-power devices with a capacitive load. These chokes can work individually or in

complex, follow-up compensation devices.

2RTS SINGLE-PHASE SMOOTHING CHOKE

Resonant chokes are designed to work in reactive power compensation systems. They are installed in series with a

capacitive battery, creating a resonant circuit that protects the capacitors against overload. Such a system limits the

amplitudes of current harmonics and reduces the risk of resonance. Resonant chokes are selected individually for each

compensation stage, taking into account the capacitor’s rated voltage, its rated power and the required resonance

frequency.

Single-phase smoothing chokes are used in power electronics. They reduce the rectified current ripple in the rectifier

output circuits. Chokes of this type are also an important element of direct medium frequency converters. The presented

catalogue group of chokes is designed to work in induction filters of 6-pulse bridge rectifiers.

Chokes of this DESIGN are used in projects where it is necessary to adjust the dimensions of the element to the existing

building conditions and in high-current systems (e.g. electric heating). Depending on the application, various variants of

the choke cooling system are possible. The high efficiency of the solutions used by TRAFECO allows to dissipate power

losses from the devices, enabling the technical and economic optimization of projects with their application.

COILS

The AirECOTM coreless coils are characterized by a linear inductance characteristic in the

full load current range. They find numerous applications in filtration and circuits with

significant overloads. The coils are designed in two versions - with natural air cooling and

forced cooling.

Due to the lack of a core concentrating the magnetic flux of the coil, these elements can

interact with nearby ferromagnetic structures. An improperly selected coil housing or

a massive structure in the immediate vicinity may affect the inductance value and self-

losses of the coil.

TRAFECO offers these elements in housings with the required degree of protection - the

coils are then adapted to work in a limited cooling space, and the housing material takes

into account inductive effects. If the customer plans to use its own air coil housing, we

offer consultation on its selection.

The use of coreless coils is the best solution

to maintain the linearity of the magnetic

characteristics.

COILS

An important parameter determining the use of air coils is their linearity of the inductance characteristic. In addition to

energy applications limiting the short-circuit current, they are used in harmonic filters, reactive power compensation

systems and power electronics. There are versions with the assumption of natural air cooling and forced air cooling,

which allows to optimize the dimensions of the device. The structural elements of the coils are made of composite

materials or paramagnetic steels, which reduces the losses of additional coils.

Air coils of this type are dedicated to work in difficult environmental conditions. They are used, for example, in traction

drives, where, in addition to high humidity, there is the influence of chemical factors and there is a risk of damage to

the coil by solid particles appearing during vehicle movement. The flexible protective coating used in these coils allows

for a significant extension of the service life of the devices, which directly translates into operating costs.

The AirECOd™ single-phase air coils are designed to work in medium voltage reactive power compensation systems.

The task of the coils is to limit the initial current that occurs in the circuit when switching on the capacitive compensation

stages. The elements are suitable for indoor use. Externally, the coils are protected with a special impregnation that

limits the leakage current and protects against dirt leakage. The TRAFECO offer also includes overhead versions of this

type of coils.

Air coil sets are manufactured in various electrical and mechanical configurations. The optional use of aluminium

windings allows to significantly reduce the cost of the application. Upon agreement with the customer, it is possible to

implement the forced cooling system.

FILTERS

Despite the undeniable advantages of inverter drives, the modulated output signal is

often a source of unfavourable effects on the power cable and the regulated motor. High

switching frequencies and the accompanying high steepness of the voltage pulses du/dt

are the cause of voltage stresses in the insulation of the power cable and motor. High du/

dt steepness is a frequent cause of cable or motor damage. The high frequency of the

inverter output voltage increases the value of the earth and screen currents. The solution

to the above technical problems is the use of a sinusoidal filter of the SinECOTM type. They

restore the sinusoidal shape of the inverter voltage, limiting the amplitudes of the voltage

harmonics to the THDu value below 5%. This protects the motor and cable insulation

system and eliminates dangerous reflective voltages on the motor. A passive sinusoidal

filter consists of an induction choke and appropriately selected capacitors. Capacitors for

such an application are ordered in a special version, resistant to unfavourable high voltage

du/dt steepness. The chokes, on the other hand, are made in the low-loss CoreECOTM

multi-gap technology, which significantly reduces the choke’s core dispersion flux, which

reduces additional losses and limits the acoustic field around the choke.

Harmonic filters are devices designed to work in the power supply circuits of typical inverters with a 6-pulse input

rectifier. They make it possible to limit the harmonic content in the current consumed from the network to <5% THDi

(compliance with the IEEE 519-1992 and PN-EN 61000-3-12 standards). In large non-linear drives and receivers, where

such filters are used, there is no need to oversize the network transformer. The ThdECO™ filters protect the winding

of the supply transformer against harmonic overload.

Dedicated to work in drive systems powered by a voltage inverter - they restore the sinusoidal shape of the voltage

at its output. They limit the degradation of the motor’s insulation and the motor’s power cable, and reduce additional

losses and motor noise. Additionally, the SinECO™ filters relieve the inverter by eliminating parasitic capacitive currents.

Upon agreement, we provide sinusoidal filters tailored to the needs of the drive system for various ranges of switching

frequency, various voltages and currents.

Air coil sets with forced cooling are used in industrial applications as elements of an inductive load system. The coils in

the sets are designed according to the customer’s specification. It is possible to modify all mechanical, electrical and

thermal parameters of the coils.

An inductive set consisting of transformers and chokes is part of the high frequency converter. The use of modern

magnetic materials allows to design and manufacture inductive elements for converters operating at frequencies of

100 kHz.

The CoreECOTM multi-gap core technology

ALUMINIUM WINDINGS

Electrical conductivity of aluminium

• A suitable increase in the cross-sections of aluminium windings with a lower electrical

conductivity of aluminium allows to obtain the same resistances and losses in the

windings of transformers and chokes as in the case of copper.

Winding temperature increases

• Larger diameters of coils increase their cooling surfaces, which causes that

transformers and chokes with aluminium windings more effectively dissipate heat

in the environment. Equality of losses and a similar thermal conductivity coefficient of

aluminium allows to obtain similar or lower temperature increases of windings.

Thermal expansion of aluminium

• The higher thermal expansion coefficient of aluminium than copper causes damage

to the welded joints when the current paths are heated. Properly selected silver-

based binder effectively removes this threat.

Mechanical tensile strength of aluminium

• The lower mechanical tensile strength of aluminium compared to copper makes it

necessary to increase the cross-sections of the windings to ensure their resistance to

the radial forces impacting the windings during short-circuits.

Additionally, the enlarged geometry of the windings limits the short-circuit current.

Specific density of aluminium

• Due to the lower specific density of aluminium, despite the enlarged winding cross-

sections and larger dimensions of transformers with aluminium windings, their weight

is lower than in transformers with copper windings.

Line aluminium has been successfully used to make windings of transformers

and chokes. Thanks to this, we obtain lower weight and price of devices while

.maintaining all technical parameters

WATER COOLING

Direct water cooling

• Direct cooling is one of the most effective methods of cooling transformer windings and

chokes. The winding is made of a pipe or a closed profile, most often made of copper.

The profile conducts the winding load current and at the same time the coolant flows

through it.

Indirect water cooling

• Additional coolers in the form of cooling panels or cooling coils are placed in the

transformer or choke windings. The coolers are electrically insulated from the working

windings, which makes it more difficult to dissipate heat from the windings.

Advantages of water cooling

• High cooling efficiency by conduction of heat to the coolant.

• Considerable reduction in the weight and dimensions of transformers and chokes.

• Discharge of equipment losses outside the transformer housing without dissipating the

losses in the immediate vicinity.

VARNISHES AND PRIMING PAINTS

• Structural elements of transformers and chokes, as well as their housings, are protected

with powder coatings

• Varnishes and primer paints protect the core and metal parts against rust and improve

the heat emission coefficient

• External layers of varnishes applied by immersion provide additional protection for the

insulation of transformers and chokes against moisture absorption

SILICONE COATING

• The outer silicone coating used in extreme climatic conditions protects against water

and conductive deposits remaining on the windings

• Flexible silicone coating also protects against mechanical action of sand and small

elements carried by the cooling air

The impregnation process protects transformers and chokes against adverse

climatic, biological and chemical environmental influences

At the customer’s request, the company can measure electricity parameters at the place where

transformers or chokes are operated. We also provide services for analysing the provided

measurement data.

We offer our clients advice and technical support at the stage of selecting and operating

transformers, chokes and filters.

The company provides warranty and post-warranty service of manufactured devices. After

agreeing, we can confirm the operational parameters of our devices by measurement.
