It follows the concept of community participation to provide health at door step. It has principle of bridging the gap between tertiary hospital and community health care facility. C. THE CONTEXT:- The Institute has RHTC at Sadumbre and UHC at Talegaon Dabhade. Through these centers the identification of area of need is done and different health care programs are planned. Scarcity of transportation, lack of local resources and lack of health awareness were the challenges addressed amicably. D.THE PRACTICE :- MULTIDICIPLINARY HEALTH CAMPS:- The details of camps organized at RHTC, UHC and villages in and surrounding catchment area of Talegaon Dabhade are mentioned in Table-1. VILLAGE HEALTH CAMPS:- Regular diagnostic and treatment camps with awareness talks are organized in collaboration with village gram panchayat. In these camps people are screened for different illness like TB, Leprosy, Breast cancer, Mental Illness, on communicable illness like Diabetes, Hypertension etc. Those who needed referral were provided free medical services at the hospital. HEALTH CAMPS DURING YATRA AND FESTIVALS:-

The Institution provides free health camps at the places of YATRA, PROCESSIONS and

RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS.

SCHOOL HEALTH SCREENING PROGRAMS:-

Institute conducts regular health screening camps for school children in different schools and

colleges. The school children are made aware about healthy habits, healthy eating practices,

adolescent health, mental health etc.

MEGA HEALTH CAMP MAVAL:-

Institute has participated in MEGA HEALTH CAMP MAVAL ON 21/01/2018 at Talegaon

Dabhade region where nearly more than 10000 people of the region were screened for

different diseases and are given free of cost treatment at the camp and also at the tertiary

health care facility.

WOMENS HEALTH PROGRAM:-

Health awareness activities and illness detection programs are organized for women living in

rural areas on regular basis. Every year on International Women’s Day; Institute conducts

special awareness programmes related to breast cancer, cervical cancer, care in pregnancy,

anemia awareness, mental health awareness etc.

NSS activities for students:-

Under NSS Program Students participate in Health Care camps and Swachta Abhiyan in

rural areas. During these camps the students interact with local people to understand their

needs and try to solve the issues.

Other camps;-

1. Anganwadi: 973 children (Age 2–6 yrs.) from the weaker socioeconomic groups were

screened by our senior pediatricians and ophthalmologists at the various anganwadis.

Almost 60% need some kind of medical attention and are being treated at our hospital.

2. Anemia correction: More than 1000 women in the age group of 15 to 45 are been

screened and treated free of charges for anemia using the advanced Haemocue-301

equipment. 350 women have been screened so far and a course of 2 month's treatment

given free of charge.

3. School Health: Students from almost all the schools in and around Talegaon are screened

by team of Pediatrician, Ophthalmologist and Dental surgeon on regular basis. Awareness

about posture and exercise by physiotherapists and sensitization about healthy diet by

dietitian is done. 744 children were screened for medical ailments during the school health

survey.

4. Osteoporosis prevention: A unique program to create awareness about the 'health of

bones', has been launched by Dept. or Orthopedics, the first camp was conducted for the

employees of Talegaon Municipal Council (Nagarparishad). Free BMD, Ortho

consultation, bone building exercises by physiotherapist, personalized dietitian's advice

etc. is given to people above the age of 35 years.

5. Service Givers' Health : The Bone Health Awareness Program was also conducted in the

hospital for our own women employees.

6. Teacher's Health : As gratitude towards the teacher’s community, a special multi

diagnostic screening camp was conducted for all the school teachers working in municipal

and government schools on occasion of Teacher's Day.

7. ' SHG ' : Three separate multidisciplinary camps were conducted for around

2000 families of the various 'बचत गट' under Nagarparishad.

8. Adolescent Girls : Hemoglobin estimation was done for over 100 school girls at Saint

Dnyaneshwar School. Educational talk on menstrual hygiene and talk on healthy food

habits were delivered.

Collaboration with NGO and Companies:-

The Institute has MOU’S with NGO and companies for health care camps. Institute has MOU

with SMPARC, DISHA, KAIVALYADHAM etc. and companies like MERCEDESE BENZ

AUTOMOBILE, MAHINDRA for health care service delivery. The Institute also conducts

camps at orphanages, old age homes free of cost regularly.

E. EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS:-

The Institute has come a long way in reaching its targets to provide the community based

health care delivery program.

In 2018, 62 different camps were conducted in remote locations of the outreach areas.

Through these activities around 5269 patients were screened and provided treatment. Till

August 2019, 26 different camps were conducted wherein around 3500 patients were

screened and were offered health services.

The department of community medicine ensures follow up till the complete treatment of all

the beneficiaries of these camps.

It is evident that the institute is well on the path of its projected goals.

F. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOURCES REQUIRED.

The Institute has encountered various problems in implementing these programs

1. Transport facilities to remote area:-

Few outreach villages were situated in remote and hilly areas of maval region. Wherever

the transport was not available, the team members of the camp have walked to the village

to conduct the health camps.

Institute has also arranged free bus and ambulance service for the patients to transport

them to the Hospital.

2. Poor awareness among local people:-

Team has encountered difficulty in changing the age old beliefs of community regarding

the health care and healthy life style. The successful acceptance of these programmes was

made possible with the help of talks, videos, handouts and other teaching learning

materials.

Promoting Research Environment and Activity amongst Faculty and Students.

B. Objective of the Practice:-

1. Inculcating research environment among students and faculty.

2. Conducting Training programs in research and innovation

3. Promoting students to conduct research activities at undergraduate and postgraduate

level.

4. Augmenting Central Research Laboratory facility for supporting innovation and

research amongst faculty and students.

5. Starting MIMER Medical Journal for promoting quality publications from faculty and

students.

3. UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES OF PRACTICE:-

With motivation from the parent establishment MAEER’S MIT Pune, MIMER Medical

College and Hospital has adopted a principal of ethical and advanced research in the field

of medicine. Under this principal Institute has taken numerous measures to improve the

research environment among its faculty and students.

C. THE CONTEXT:-

The evidence based medicine demands constant upgradation in knowledge of medicine and

related sciences. To fulfill this requirement every institute has to keep itself updated with

recent research advances and inventions. Thereby MIMER Medical College has

established its own Research Society, Central Research Laboratory, MIMER Medical

Journal etc.

D. THE PRACTICE:-

The Institute has created separate committee for promoting the research environment in its

faculty and students. Prof. Dr. Arun Jamkar, Ex- Vice chancellor, Maharashtra University

Of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik has been appointed as Director, Post Graduate

Research and Academics.

I) INSTITUTIONAL ETHICS COMMITTEE:-

Institute has its own ETHICS COMMITTEE which is formed as per guidelines of

MCI and ICMR . The Ethical committee regularly reviews the research protocol for

Ethical issues related to the research interest. The committee member are selected by

the institute as per the standard protocols.

II) RESEARCH SOCIETY:-

This committee consists of experienced faculty in research and publications. This

committee along with Medical Education Unit looks after training of faculty and

student in conducting research and publications. The various activities of the Research

Society are as follows :-

a. The Research Methodology workshops for UG, PG and faculty as per MCI and

ICMR norms. Experienced faculty from outside are invited to train the

participants.

b. Awarding the Institutional Research grants for the research projects. The Reserch

Society Committee selects research projects from submitted projects for

Institutional Research Grants. Every year Rs.20000/- project grant is given to

selected five departments.

c. Travel grants for research paper presentation in conferences. To motivate faculty

and students to present their work in National and International conferences the

Institute grants travel and conference registration incentives to faculty and

students.

d. Incentives for publication in Indexed journal:- Faculty and students are motivated

to publish their original research paper in Indexed National and International

journals. Those who publish their work in Indexed journal are given incentives

after scrutiny process for authenticity of publication.

e. The Research society conducts Annual Research Conference which provides

platform to the faculty and students to present their research work. Other Medical

Institutes are invited to participate. Maharashtra Medical Council awards credit

points for this conference.

f. Monthly Research Society Meeting:-This is monthly meeting of all faculty and

students where different department turn wise present research topic of interest

and discuss the intricacies related to their research and topic.

III. CENTRAL RESEARCH LABORATORY:-

The Central Research Laboratory of the institute is involved in advanced research in

the field of medicine and related sciences. Dr. Shashwat Banerjee heads this lab. The

Laboratory is doing excellent work, notable of which is the Nano-Technology

related study in the drug delivery systems. The lab has received various grants from

DBT and DST.

IV. Promotion of ICMR/STS/LTRG/STRG Projects for Students

Institute promotes and helps UG/PG Students to conduct ICMR/STS/LTRG/STRG

research projects. Every year number of students secure grants for successfully

completed projects.

V. I-DOCTOR PROJECT:-

Institute has MOU with Persistent Systems Ltd., a well-known MNC software

company for I-DOCTOR project .This is a virtual consultation and diagnosis

platform project being developed by MIMER Medical college and Persistent

Systems Ltd.

E. EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS:-

Due to constant efforts from the institute, satisfactory growth has been observed in the

number of research conducted in the Institute by faculty and students over the years.

MUHS Funded Projects: MIMER faculty has received LTRG/STRG projects funding

from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. Thus Institute is pushing its way

forward in different areas of research in medicine and biomedical engineering.

F. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOURCES REQUIRED:-

Institute has extended all help to improve the research environment amongst its

faculty and students, though high end research projects like genetic research and

research requiring extensive monetary may face limitations. Other limitations such as

trained personnel, time consumed and limited inclination toward research

World Diabetes Day, 2018

At UHTC, Talegaon

World Diabetes Day was observed on 14th

Nov.2018, at UHTC Talegaon. Theme for

this year is “The family and Diabetes”. Health talk was organized to create awareness about

diabetes among general population, followed by question answer session.

Special focus was given on importance of Diet, exercise and lifestyle modification for

prevention and control of diabetes. Health talk was given by Interns and Dr. Pramod Giri, PG

Student, Community Medicine.

There was good response from the community and 30-40 people were present for the

session.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. S.V.Chincholikar, Professor

& Head, Community Medicine.

WORLD ALZEIMER’S DAY CELEBRATION AT RHTC SUDHUMBRE

Date: 21/09/2018

World Alzeimer’s day was celebrated at RHTC Sudhumnbre on 21/09/2018. It was

celebrated in the community and in the centre itself. Around 25 people were

present.Information regarding symptoms ,prevention of Alzeimer’s disease was given. The

programme was orgnanised by Dr. A. Topkhane , Dr. S. Kale. Interns and RHTC Staff was

also present for that function.

The programme was orgnanised under the guidence of Dr.Maya Kshirsagar & Dr.

S.V.Chincholikar. Prof & Head,Dept. Of Community Medicine ,MIMER Medical College,

Talegaon.

STREET PLAY ORGANISED AT TALEGAON RAILWAY STATION ON

OCCASION OF WORLD AIDS DAY 2018, DEPT. OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE

WORLD AIDS Day 2018 was observed in MIMER Medical College on

01/12/2018 . The theme of this year is “ Know your status”. On this occasion a Street Play

was organised at Talegaon Railway Station by Medical Students.

The street play included the topics on common modes of transmission, the presenting

symptoms and the preventive measures for HIV/AIDS

The street play was organised by Dr. Aastha Pandey under the guidance of Dr.

S.V.Chincholikar, Professor & Head Dept. Of Community Medicine. Dr. S.J. Kulkarni and

other staff took efforts for making it a success.

Rashtriya Ekta Divas 2018

Rashtriya Ekta Divas was celebrated at Urban Health Centre, Talegaon Dabhade by NSS

volunteers of MIMER Medical College, Talegaon Dabahde .

A short speech on the importance of unifying India and the role of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel

in national integration was given, followed by the singing of patriotic songs.

The programme was organized under the supervision of NSS chairperson, Dr.Ratna

Majumdar on 31st Oct.2018, between 10.30am to 11.30am. The Audience also joined in

chorus. 26 NSS students and Community members from field practice area participated in the

programme.

MEASLES RUBELLA VACCINE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AT URBAN HEALTH

T CENTER, TALEGAON ON 05/09/2018

A programme was conducted in the urban health care center to raise awareness about

the MR vaccine, under the supervision of Dr Majumdar and Dr Ashlesha by social worker

Mrs Lalita and interns. Many people from UHTC field practice area attended the programme

and were educated about the importance of the vaccine and were advice to get all infants in

the family vaccinated with the MR vaccine at 9 and 16 months.

Interns also spread awareness about this vaccine by going door to door and telling

people about the dose schedule and import ace.

Students of MBBS and BPth of MIMER Medical Colege were also educated about this

new vaccine. 39 in vaccinated girls in 1st and 2nd year were also administered this vaccine as

a part of the campaign.

HEALTH TALK ON AWARENESS OF TUBERCULOSIS

At UHTC Talegaon

2nd April, 2019

On 2nd April, 2019, a health talk regarding tuberculosis was delivered to the children and

women of Bhegde Talim Anganwadi. This health education activity was organized by the

Dept. of Community Medicine.

Interns: Apurva Tekawade, Priyanka Shinde and Sharvari Kulkarni delivered a health

talk regarding awareness of TB. Social worker Mrs. Lalita Patil helped in organizing this

activity.

It was an interactive session that sought at spreading awareness about the magnitude of

TB, how to identify probable cases, facilities that are available for diagnosis and treatment,

treatment adherence and preventive measures.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

International yoga day is observed on 21st June every year. It was celebrated at Rural Health

Training Centre to emphasize its importance. A total of 22-25 women from the village

Sudumbre attended the programme. The programme was addressed by staff of RHTC in

collaboration with Dept of Physiotherapy and Interns posted. Dr. Rahul gave health talk on

importance of Yoga and Dr. S.J. Kulkarni shared about benefits of Yoga for health.

The Physiotherapist taught various asanas which could help to reduce backache and joint

pains and feel rejuvenated throughout their day.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Professor & HOD of Dept. of

Community Medicine, Dr. Sanjeev Chincholikar.

DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY

OBGY ADOLESCENTS CAMP

MIMER Medical College and BSTRH, Talegaon in collaboration with Department of

Obstetrics and Gynecology arranged a free health camp for all women and adolescent girls on

08/08/2019 and 09/08/2019 from 9am to 3pm at hospital casualty (B-01). In this camp

menstrual problems like irregular menses, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea and post-menopausal

problems were addressed. Many patients in and around Talegaon, were benefitted by this

camp. Our institute has always been involved in such health camps thus serving the nearby

population of maval.
