Catalog 2022

It’s now been five years since I realised a lifelong dream of opening my own surfboard factory, here in the heart of the Basque Country.

Time is a funny thing: in some ways it feels like only yesterday that we were opening the doors to our facility in Zarautz, filled with excitement (and a little fear) at the adventures to come. In other ways - so much has happened, we’ve come so far - that 2016 feels like a lifetime away.

In those early years, there were many challenges. There were tough, boring-but-important ones, like finding the materials, staff and distribution that met up to our high standards. But there was also the fun challenge of developing new shapes and technologies that would fuel our dream of making the best surfboards in the world.

Well, all those years of hard work and overcoming obstacles have paid off better than we could have ever imagined. I’m proud to say that in 2021, our biggest challenge is now keeping up with demand!

With this new challenge in mind, we’ve welcomed several new and extremely talented sanders and glassers to the team, and we’ve added a few exciting new surfboard models to the roster too. With Gabriel Medina’s third world title as the icing on the cake, 2021 really has been a wonderful year for Cabianca surfboards.

We can’t wait to see what 2022 brings!

nce The Medina

Being the world’s best contest surfer isn’t all about destroying the world’s best waves: it’s often more about winning decisive heats in marginal conditions. And that’s where The Medina comes in – this is Gabriel’s go-to board when he needs to make small waves look amazing, and it’s helped him win everything from his 2013 Junior World title to the first-ever WCT wavepool contest, the 2018 Surf Ranch Pro. Low rocker from nose to tail, a combination of concave to V bottom, and a flatter dome deck makes this board stable, yet very lively and responsive. Get this board 2 inches shorter than your usual shortboard. Whatever your level, the Medina will turn your bad days into fun days… and good days into classic days.

nce The GAME

Taking the DFK 2.0’s high performance DNA as a starting point, Johnny developed a board designed to be ultra responsive in high quality waves anywhere up to five feet. Featuring a brand new foil with lower, softer rails for great drive and hold, the GAME's flatter tail rocker combines with a mellow single to double concave for maximum speed and flow. Meanwhile, the fins are set back further than the DFK, making it the perfect choice for explosive rail-to-rail surfing off the back foot. Gabriel’s verdict? “It’s magic!”

nce Bandida

Turn every seven into a ten. After Gabriel Medina won #thetest contest at Kelly’s wave pool with this board, Johnny asked him how it went – his reply? “Bandida!”. Bandida (literally ‘Bandit’) is retro Brazilian slang for ‘badass’, and the nickname has stuck – even though there’s nothing retro about this ultra progressive shape. Designed for high performance surfing on less critical waves like Lowers, Snapper and Jeffreys Bay, The Bandida has low rocker and a deep double concave for generating tons of speed and drive, but doesn’t compromise on response on the face or agility in the air.

Features• Single to double concave• V bottom on the tail• Little bump in the outline • Thruster (backfoot)

nce El Caballero

To get the most out of a high performance surfboard, you need to be a high performance surfer, right? Wrong. The Caballero takes the Formula 1 DNA of our DFK 2.0 model and makes it just a little moreforgiving, making it the weapon of choice for good surfers looking forexcellent all-round performance. Perfect for power surfing, the Caballero has a mellow, versatile rocker, single concave, and fuller rails that still have lots of bite for good drive and rail-to-rail surfing. If you’re a bigger guy who loves hacking the lip – get this board. If you’re improving fast and learning to carve beautiful lines – get this board. If you still rip but don’t get in the water as much as you used to – get this board!

nce Muleke

Our grommet model is built for maximum froth factor. Muleke is an affectionate Brazilian term for a young kid who is both smart and wild in equal amounts, so we think it’s a pretty good name for our Grom model, which is designed to be both forgiving enough to learn the basics, yet progressive enough to keep up with the modern grom’s insanely fast learning curve. The Muleke is based upon the DFK 2.0, re-dimensioned and adapted for surfers weighing less than 40KG.

Summer ToysSeries

As a shaper, these ‘summer toys’ are some of my favourite boards to make. Mainly because creating boards that are insanely fun to surf… are the most fun todesign. For me, a good summer toy is a board that thrives in average-to-small conditions, catches tons of waves, yetstill rips when the surf gets good. Anyone can make a cool looking summer board, but to have it still perform when the waves turn on? That’s the challenge that draws on every one of my 40 years of shaping experience.

oys Uber Twin

Back in the 1970’s, Mark Richards revolutionized small wave surfboards with his twin-fin design, while in the past few years Uber have revolutionized transportation with their taxi app. Not that we’re saying our new Uber Twin shape is revolutionary – it’s just an insanely fun summer board that combines all the speed and looseness of a classic twin with the maneuverability of a modern performance shortboard. Run it with a twin fin setup for ultimate retro fun, or add the rear stabilizer fin for extra drive and control. If you’re looking for a small wave board that flies down the line and turns on a dime, get the Uber Twin.

oys Evil Twin

When it comes to milking every drop of speed and fun from weak summer swells, you really can’t beat a twin fin’s ability to generate speed with minimal drag. Which is why we decided it was time to give our Uber Twin model a “twin” of its own… introducing the Evil Twin. Like its Über brother, the Evil Twin comes with the option of using a central stabiliser fin, and has enough performance DNA to rip in decent waves. But with its flatter rocker and extra width at the nose and tail, this board really excels in the kind of summer slop that makes other shortboards chop and hop back to the beach in disgust.

oys 70's Twin

Spirit of the seventies, performance of… now.

Just like the spirit of the seventies, the twin fin never really died – it lives on in the muscle memory of old surfers and shapers, and in the upgraded designs of guys like Johnny, who learned from the masters. Johnny’s version has plenty of the cruisy retro feel of a classic twin, but with all the extra sensitivity and response you expect from a modern master of performance shapes.

Obscenely high performance in a fun and friendly package.

For this design we took the basic shape of The Medina and introduced elements that make stubby summer boards such wave catching machines – extra width, a fuller foil, a mellow rocker and plenty of foam under the chest. Finally, we added a triple wing, making this board perfect for high velocity snaps and releases.

oys Candy + Candy Twin

The perfect entry to performance surfing.

Mastered the basics and itching to throw some spray around? The Candy is the perfect first step towards performance surfing. Plenty of DNA from The Medina, combined with all the ingredients you need to catch way more waves on average beach breaks: flat rocker, lots of foam under the chest, and a stable, easy glide for maximum control. Because all good candy comes in different flavours, the Candy is also available as a twin fin, for those who love the extra speed and looser feeling of a twin. And, for those who love the feeling of hitting the 'gas pedal', we also offer four tail channels as an optional extra on both fin setups.

Summer doesn’t have to be a bummer, and when it comes to making the most of small, gutless surf, the Go-To Guy will always show you a good time. ft SherpaMid length models are very much back in vogue right now, with good reason. Inspired by the hull-bottomed models of the pre-Thruster era, these boards are the perfect choice for smooth, flowing turns and effortless glide on long, cruisy waves, especially point breaks. For the Sherpa, Johnny has taken the classic vee bottom and combined it with a double concave through the tail. The vee provides smooth rail to rail surfing down the line, while the double concave creates extra lift and speed generation when you need it. The rails are thin and low: experienced surfers will love their precision and response. Choose the big twin fin setup for extra speed or the single fin for ultimate flow..

Static WavesSeries

As surfing’s popularity continues to boom, the search for rippable waves has headed inland. With their potential for endless rides and easy access for the most land-locked surfer, there’s no denying the appeal of static waves. But while traditional surfboards are a good entry point into the sport, the bottom line is static waves just don’t break the same way as ocean waves. As a new and rapidly evolving sport we’re really excited to be pioneering new inland surfboard designs that will help surfers at the cutting edge of the sport evolve even faster. Over the past three years, our Zero Salt model has established itself as one the best static wave shapes on the market, and for 2022 we’re delighted to announce a high-performance upgrade for the most progressive static wave surfers: the Zero Salt Pro.

Zero SaltTaking everything we’ve learned about the characteristics of static waves, The Zero Salt has been designed from the ground up for high performance surfing in rivers and wave pools. Extremely agile, responsive and built with a unique bottom shape, rocker and fin setup, this board makes zero compromises when it comes to fresh water ripping.

Due to the high wear and tear when surfing rivers, we recommend ordering the EPS/Epoxy construction with reinforced fin plugs, carbon rails, and a solid tail patch.

Features• Any fin combination possible• Full concave to double-V• Soft rails• Good entry to soft rocker on the tail• Option of reinforced fin plugs

EPS/Epoxy ConstructionTaking Epoxy Technology to the Next Level

At BCSC we take pride in integrating cutting-edge construction materials using the best techniques in the industry. Take our Power Roots technology: instead of glassing carbon tape onto the blank, we carefully place carbon roving strips into pre-shaped channels, eliminating surface bumps and maximising the board’s structural integrity.

We love turning creative ideas into finished artwork, and whether you’re dreaming of a classic retro tint, polish, a full graphic skin or a wild-style spray job, we’ve got the skills and experience to make it a reality.

Tips for Designing Your Dream Board

EPS or PU? When it comes to custom artwork for your surfboard, PU offers more versatility and scope for colourful, creative designs – the colours on these pages are all available sprays, in any combination. Because applying spray colours to EPS boards is generally more difficult (and expensive), we only offer a smaller range of colours (options marked with *). For EPS type boards we recommend sticking with a single colour design. Color Print: Printing directly onto rice paper or fabric means your fully custom artwork can be realised on your surfboard. Send us your artwork, and we’ll take care of the rest – or just ask to see our stock designs.
