INFORMATION ABOUT BREVET PROVIDED IN THIS POWERPOINT IS RELEVANT FOR NEXT YEAR 9TH GRADE STUDENTS (BREVET 2021).CURRENT 9TH GRADE STUDENTS WILL TAKE A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT VERSION OF BREVET DUE TO THE FACT THAT LYCEE IS NOT ACCREDITED YET FOR THIS GRADE LEVEL.

2. The Brevet

● The French national brevet diploma is both an assessment and a certification of the knowledge and skills acquired at the end of French middle school.

● It is one of the two standardized French assessments (Brevet and the Baccalaureate). While it is not required, it is a prestigious diploma and is highly regarded by any French and/or French accredited institutions.

● First external credentialing examination for academic French standards. It is a unique opportunity for students to get an official acknowledgement of 10+ years in a French immersion program accredited by the French government.

● The brevet has a dual component: ongoing assessments based on grades (9th grade year) and exams taken at the end of 9th grade

● Final exams include 4 written exams - French, Mathematics, History/Geography, and Science - and 1 oral exam (presentation of an interdisciplinary project led during the school year)

● Passing grade is 400 points

● Exams usually take place during the first week of June. Starting in June 2021, exams will take place at LFNO.

● In 2020, the fee to register for Brevet is $152

● The content of the Brevet exam is based on 9th grade French curriculum standards, which are taught at Lycée

● 9th grade textbooks include Brevet-type questions in each unit/chapter

● Teachers include Brevet-type questions in their tests and final exams throughout the school year

● Students take a practice Brevet (“Brevet blanc”) during the third trimester. This Brevet blanc replicates the conditions of the real exam so that students know what to expect during the two-day exam.

● Teachers schedule review sessions of the exam content in May

● Students have a week to review (reading days) the exam material between the last day of class and the first day of testing
