Pag-ibig o Pag-aaral?

Pag-ibig ba? Na walang kapantay ang ligaya ang bigay.

Pag-ibig na nagbibigay saya pag nasisilayan

Pag-ibig ban a nakakatagpo ng karamay

Pag-ibig o Pag-aaral?

BRENTWOOD:By: Arabelle Fortuna

Brentwood College of Asia International School is located on the far end of the city. It is oneof the several Institutions in Naga City. It is one of a kind. Students who attend the school arefrom different walks of life. They offer preschool, elementary, high school and CollegeEducation. Because of the young age of the Institution, the population is still low compared tothe other Institutions. But this not hinders the school spirit of the students. Maybe we are fewbut we treat each other like family. We work like family, we play like friends. And we do bickerlike siblings. Teacher’s as our parents, nurturing as mentally, emotionally and physically theyguide us through life.

My touch in yours is still fresh in my skin

My eyes always linger where you were last been

The hunger I feel when you are away

Is very unbearable, I thought I could just run away

Your cover shines in the stiff moonlight

Your pages flutter like a delicate petal

I always long to read your writings

That brings me hope and blissfulness within

I hope everyone can have the same desire

The overwhelming feel of our emotions

The teachings that one can learn and

The experiences that anyone can’t have

All of these is buried within you

Like a priceless treasure

It will never give you a material wealth

But it will grant you tones of wisdom

Wisdom that you could take with you forever

BRENTWOOD: My School, My HomeBy: Kenneth C. Menon BEE 1-B

Brentwood is my home. I don’t know why, but whenever I’m inside this school, it makesme feel as if I’m inside my own home. And that is also the reason why I’m always here everySunday and help Maam Villar and Sir AC clean this school; the rooms especially my mostfavorite part of the school: The library. I’ve been through more than five schools already, butthis school is the very first one in which I’ve felt at home. This school is the best. The “very”best. And I do my best to help maintain cleanliness and orderliness of this school. Brentwood:My school, my home.

PanambitanBy: Kenneth C. Menon

Half DeadPrincess T. Alvarez

A few months have passedbut I still don’t know what to do.

I am taking my class, but my mind won’t allow me to

How far would it take for you to hear?!My heart cracks when I am here

Now I always think,How can I get out of here?!

My eyes feels like it is always rainingBut why do I feel like I’m always burning?

What would it take for me to heal?coz I want to make this things unreal

Now my heart is already Half Dead,My tears always fall on my bed

I wonder how happy you are right nowthat you left me crying, dead, and drowned.

Hang-OutBy: Ms. Rachel C. Villaester (Elementary Teacher)

It was on June 14, 2014 when we had our first activity on the beach with the facultyand staff member of Brentwood College of Asia International School. We decided to have our swimming when the faculty Development Seminar ends. With the eagerness of Maam Magistrado to conduct a swimming with their new facultymember of Brentwood we come up on this activity which she called ‘’Grouped Growth Activity’’To make this swimming possible, we were group into two to handle or decide for the foods wewill eat . Our group was assigned to brought fresh tilapia and rice, while the other group waschoosen to cooked adobo and gulay na langka. That was the final decision we had made. On the afternoon of the 14th day on June 2014, at around twelve o’clock when Idecided to traveled already in Brentwood because it was time to meet the group and boughtthe said food assigned to us, but sad to say, I just found only teacher Payong only in the school. She was glad when she saw me because she’s been there for a few minutes ago. After a fewminute of time I arrived teacher Sarah came. Teacher Sarah and teacher Payong was the twoperson who decide to bought the fish and rice to Centro Naga while me, was left inside theschool. After two or three hours of waiting at last they came with another member. We decidedto cook the food at the back of the school. We asked permission of course to the staff that is incharge of it. Since there was no Shellane we used woods for cooking. It was challenging becausewe had only limited / few woods there. We learned to be patience enough to cook the foods. After of cooking , we packed the foods, fixed ourselves and waited for the jeepney to arrive. Itwas around six o’clock I thought so when we left the school. I was excited at the time because itwas our first bonding or jamming time. It was eight thirty at night when we arrived at theTropical Getaway beach Resort. We had no worries about the entrance and cost of cottagebecause the staff paid for it, and that’s better! hehe. We took first our dinner and honestly thefoods we ate are delicious that’s way I was full at that moment. Lately, the others run away onthe beach and swum. While me decided to stayed at the cottage because of the cold wind I felt. After a minute of staying at the cottage I asked Ruth to help me to grilled the tilapia and shecome with me. I found it fun and enjoyable. On the 15th day of June, at 7 o’clock in the morning we left the beach Though it was nowthe parting time I had the memories that is now kept in my heart and in my mind. It was niceand great for me because they allow us to enjoy the night and day with the cool , nice andapproachable staff. The moment we had this activity, I can say that being with them was funand comfortable!

“Brentin’s Staff and Faculties Went for GGA’’By: Mrs. Marygen Llaneta (Elementary Teacher)

Brentwood Staff and faculties went to tropical Gateaway Beach Resort in Pasacao Cam. Sur on14th of June for GGA (Group Growth Activity). Newly hired teachers felt the warm of being nowa part of Brentwood family. During the Faculty Development Seminar that held on June 5-7,2014, the ever sophisticated Dr. Suzie P. Magistrado proposed and initiated this what we calledGroup , Growth Activity. Newly teachers were divided into two Groups and assigned task forthey were responsible in preparing the foods. It was past 6:00 o’clock in the afternoon when weleft Naga. Along our way , everyone was busy sharing stories about anything under the sun.Laughter and smiles made our trip easy and relaxing despite of a dusty and bumpy road we hadtook. It seems that everyone now are totally comfortable with each other. Good friendship arestarted to build. It was 8:00 o’clock when we finally reached our destination. Everyone carried their ownbelongings. When we arrived to our cottage, we immediately ready our table for dinner. Afterblessing the food , everybody was ready to dig in the table. Laing from Maam Susie was just theperfect and favorite dish among all that served. It was a very quiet moment that only lasted afew minutes. Everyone concentrate and focused on their own plate, obviously everybody wastoo hungry! After dinner conversation started again, some went to seashore for a little walk, Othersstayed at the cottage, and some went to grilled fish. It was past 10:00 o’clock, we formed circleand had matador at the center that is passed on through it while conversations never stop. Thecold breeze from the sea provides us the perfect ambiance to stayed there for an hour. We swam, enjoying the warm water while beating the large wave made us feel like a childagain. When we returned at the cottage, we saw Maam Villar, Maam Suzie and MaamBermudo, our big bosses, as we fondly called, they were all busy….sleeping. Anyway they wouldpreferred to enjoy the beach in the morning since we stayed overnight. It was 2:00 o’ clock inthe morning when we decided to return in Naga. We went home so tired, but bringing homethe joy for having new friends, colleague, aquintance and having a new family……theBrentwood Family.

How do we provide the support that International Students need?Debate for another Day: is there a Cultural reality we can call Pan-

Asian?

What are the needs (intellectual, emotional, cultural and social) of international students? Thevariety of needs depends upon the cultural background or nationality of the incoming student, including religion, family and kinship, economic structure, political structure. The culture ofreceiving school is also important. -Religion. Filipinos love to say they are the only Chatolic country in Asia. Thepredominant religion in other Asian countries is usually Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam, with all

variations internal to each major religion. There are also folk religions and other secondaryreligions such as Sufism.-Family and kinship. Asians in general, place a higher value on family kinship than westerncountries. Still, who ‘’counts’’ as kin differs from one Asian culture to another. Courting/datingand marriage customs also differ. Look. for example at the arrange marriages of India.-Economic and political structure. Many Asian countries function with a political economy thatis highly centralized. The central government is strong and determinant. Many of thesewere/are influenced by Communist or Socialist ideology. In other Asian countries, theredistribution of goods and services is informal and localized, as in the Philippines or India.

So International students come with a wide range of needs; influenced to a great extent bycultural background.

A. Administration-(1) someone who understands and has expertise with the visa systemof the Philippines. It would be helpful if this person would also be able to help withthe passports or other legal matters that affects the lives of international students. (2)A counselor or a counselor type of person in whom the International Student mightgo when questions and challenges arise that are outside the academic area. (3) Anorientation just for incoming international students (4) pair an international studentwith a native student who the IS could ‘’shadow’’ for the first week, and meet withweekly for the first two months. (5) pair an international student with a native familywho would include the IS in some family events and celebrations.

B. Faculty-(1) sessions or training (like this one) that highlights cultural similarities andcultural differences. (2) teachers might find out the Is’s competence in the languageof instruction, if this is not already known.(3) teachers might take special care toencourage international students to participate equally with native students. (4) takeadvantage of opportunities that arise for IS to explain differences in approach to thetopic being discussed.

II. Student support for IS(1) At the beginning of the academic year, hold a party that focuses on the incoming

international students. Give them grand welcome and get to know them. (2) Create aninternational students club which has the activities and meets once a month. (3) Haveoccasional International Days when international students might ‘’ showcase’’something from their culture, for example , food ,music, dance, dress, religion.

Activity: ”Build” a structure for foundation with your team that supports the needs ofInternational students. You may use any materials that are available. Label the parts of yourstructure.

ORSEM 2014-2015 June 9, 2014 is like opening a new facebook account for the Brentwood’s NewInternational Students as they open a new chapter of their life in a wider world. Every schoolyear in every school is being opened by an Orientation Seminar which tells the students all theinformation they must know about the institution. And for this year’s program, there a lot ofnew faces who came from different part of the world like India, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwanand others. The Orientation Seminar for the year 2014-2015 is fun and the students are verylucky because Brentwood is their way to Internationalism and multiculturalism. The programwas started by a Doxology performed by our three Taiwanese Brentins: Marc Timothy Tan,Melani Chen and Catherine Chen, The singing of the National Anthems, an opening remarksfrom the president of the Student Council Organization College Department, Ms. PrincessAlvarez and the welcome address that was given by Mr. Marl Humprey Olos,8 th grader. All ofthem was proudly introduced by our very lovely Lady of the Ceremony: Ms. Mariel Jane J.Paday. Before we proceedto the first speaker, a very refreshing sing and dance number wasgiven to us by Ms. Mary Arjen Tayo with her very energetic back up dancers. The first speakerwas Mr. Arvin O. Castillar who discussed about the rules and regulations of our school and ourmembership with the International School Association. After the discussion, an ethnic muslimdance was performed by Ms. Princess Alvarez for an Intermission number to makes theaudience know that even though this is an International Institution, we still treat our ownculture more special. The second speaker was Ms. Francia M. Bermudo who had the speechabout the Brentwood’s Mission, Vision, and Goal plus the Brentwood History and DevelopmentTimeline from the very beginning. It was fun and exciting to know where the Brentwoodstarted. After the speech , a selected group of Brentin’s performed a very lively modern danceas tier Intermission number. For the last speaker of the day, we ad Ms. Erlinda M. Villar. Sediscussed about the Office of the Students life and Dresscodes for the students. And to officially

close the program, Ms Yvette Borja delivered the Closing Remarks. At the end of the program, the catwalk was finally open for the selected students to represent their Gaela, Wednesday, and P.E uniform.-(princessalvarez)

“GOOD-BYE “By: Mhel C. Garduque

There are many good –byes in our lives; they are part of being human. Sometimes wechoose, like breaking off relationship with a girlfriends or boyfriends, and sometimes they comeunexpectedly, like the death of someone we love very much. Usually they are small good-bye,insignificant looses that do not pain us very much, like saying good bye to a classmate, friend ora co-worker until we see them the next morning. But sometimes good-byes are deep powerful, intense experiences that twist our hearts in agony and hurt for years. This feeling is expressedin the line of an old song, “everytime we say good-bye we die a little”. What is good-bye? The philosophers say that it is an empty space in us that cries to befilled. It is any situation which there is some loss, some incompleteness. Good-byes are one ofthose times when we find ourselves without someone or something that has given our lifemeaning and value, when part of our life seems to be out of place, good byes are all of thoseexperiences that give us with a hollow feelings and intense pain.

We say good-bye to our parents, spouses, children, and friends, sometimes for just a day ortwo; sometimes for longer and sometimes forever in this human life. We leave familiar placesand secure homes. We change teachers, schools, and managers, sometimes even spouses orideologies. We change our ideas, our values, and our way of interpreting life’s situations. Oftenwe have to say not to love relationships that are inappropriate or harmful to others. All thesehard decisions and choices involve some kind of leave taking. They all demand tat we say goodbye. And it hurts. Saying good-bye always hurt. Sometimes it hurts a lot. We had to learn torecognize and accept our good-byes.

We all had to say good-bye to acknowledge the pain that is there, so we can eventuallymove on to a new life to a new hello. Moving on most is an essential part of our journey in lifemeans that we had to let go. We can never move on till we let go of whatever bind us to thepast. If we had a heavy burden in our heart it will drag behind us and create an ever weary andsadness. If we had a memory that away our happiness or anger that grows at our peace, it willalways be there to stir negative feeling. If we have anything to do with we cling too tightly, anything that causes distressful feelings, it will weaken our walking forward in our journey. Onthat journey we must always come to a place where we give up our insecurities which binds us,the painful memories that harm us, the dashed dreams which discourages us, and the heartaching wounds which prevent us from discovering new dreams and from coming into fuller life.

To let go does not mean that we stop carrying. To let godoes not mean we ignore oldfeelings and memories, or what we fail to remember the love one who we miss so much. To let

go is to forget but to leave someone or something behind so that we are free to journey towarda new country that is waiting for us. Rather it means us choose our energies in another way, giving them another direction. Instead to concentrating to what is hurtful, we look to what willbe life giving. We continue to care deeply, but also realize that we cannot change what is.

To let go and to move on in life mean to surrender, to surrender is to give God whateverkeeps us down or holds us back. When we surrender to God we open ourselves to the mysteryof life, to the risk of the future, to the challenge of the unknown, God is such an important partof our good-byes. Good-bye originally meant “GOD BE WIYHYE” or GOD BE WITH YOU”. Good-bye was a blessing of love proclaiming the belief that if God went with you, you will never bealone, that comfort and strength and all the blessing of his loving presence would accompanyyou from this journey. “Good-bye means we cannot keep you from going. We are hurt deeplybecause you are going. You had made a home in your hearts. Yet we know you must leave inorder to grow…SO GO, GO WITH GOD’’.

WISDOMBy: Mhel C. Garduque

If they could ask for one thing in their life, what would it be? To be famous? To berich? To be powerful? Certainly not wrong to be famous, to be rich, and to be powerful. Butthere is something tat much more valuable than these thing and that is wisdom. As we grow in wisdom we learn to make right choices that will have lifelong results. Aperson does not have to be old and wise, and being older does not necessary mean that he orshe Is wise. A young person is wise if he or she is inquisitive and respects the advice of olderpeople who have more experience. The term ‘’WISE MAN’’ is usually applied to a person who has a well-rounded andsound knowledge of the deepest truths which enable him to guide and influence other people. We can define wisdom in general term as certain knowledge of the deepest cause ofeverything. Also it may happen that an ordinary person may be truly more wise (in the strictsense) than a scientist who tackles issues outside the field of superficial law.

The desire for knowledge is something natural to a man, and his happiness is closelylinked to wisdom. Wisdom enables him to discover the meaning of his life and to act in anupright way.

When a person comes face to face with wisdom, he finds himself confronted withtruths that had a deep bearing on his existence. Thus, ignorance and error in these matters areclosely linked with moral uprightness of the subject. Knowledge concerning the deepest truthsdemand an upright with that sincerely seeks what is good without allowing himself to becarried away by arbitrary preferences. Hence, the exercise of human freedom plays animportant role in the growth of sapiential knowledge, which deals with the ultimate causes andwhich fulfills a judging and ordinary role with regards to the forms of knowledge.

In short wisdom is not just knowing with our minds, but understanding with our hearts. Ifour heart is hardened, we will never understand even the most basic knowledge. If we keep ourmind open to the good message of wisdom we will have an open mind, then we become wiseand wiser we are.
