A group of Gold Coast boons calling themselves the "Mexican Hoon Cartel" have been terrorising suburban streets around the city.

Ms Frecklington said hooning gangs were causing misery for communities and putting the lives of innocent Coast residents at risk.
LNP leader Deb Frecklington on the Coast today announced an anti-hooning policy which will fund new cameras, create fresh laws and put in place technology which she says will literally shred the tyres of dangerous drivers.

“My plan will get boons off our streets and make communities safe again.”
“It’s time to get tough on these boons because right now they’re laughing at the law and the soft Palaszczuk Labor Government,” Ms Frecklington said.

The three-pronged strategy includes:
Ms Frecklington said the Coast was being plagued by gangs like the Mexican Hoon Cartel, whose members post burnout videos online, have attacked QPS officers and demanded the government fund a skid pad.
* Anti-hooning gang laws. The LNP will introduce a new offence to apply specifically to members of established hooning gangs. It imposes an additional 3-year driving ban on boons whose cars are impounded, immobilised or confiscated, rising to 5 years for repeat offenders.
* Tyre-shredding road surfaces in burnout hotspots. A funding commitment of $500,000 to rollout of an antiskid road treatment being trialled by Brisbane City Council. The road surface quickly erodes rubber when a car performs a burnout or skids, but causes no damage when vehicles are driven appropriately. About 40 burnout hotspots will be treated.
*100 new covert CCTV cameras. Based on a successful initiative in WA, the cameras will be located in hooning hotspots and provide a direct feed to police stations and officer iPads across Queensland. The LNP in government will provide $750,000 to fund the scheme.

The government admits “thousands of instances of offending behaviour on the roads” would have led to fines.
Councillors at a meeting earlier this month agreed to lobby the Government to change laws which will ensure the owners of vehicles involved in hooning will be fined unless they dob in the drivers.
More than 290 boons have been prosecuted for “more serious, high-end offences” in the Burleigh electorate between October last year and April.
Only three prosecutions were launched for speeding boons and 23 bikes were impounded. But no fines handed out for noise offences.
Latest police data obtained by Theodore MP Mark Boothman shows that apart from Surfers Paradise and Southport, the fast growing northern suburbs of Coomera, Helensvale, Labrador and Nerang were consistently recording high number of hoon offenders.
Burleigh MP Michael Hart today told The Bulletin he had obtained data which showed the Coast needed more police to target hoon gangs.
“People are saying to me we are seeing all these bikes, reporting them to police, but no action is being taken,” Mr Hart said.
“A lot of these Harleys make a noise. A lot of people in Goodwin Terrace have complained. There’s not enough pnnnorc nn rnaJ InnVinrr nt fliic ctiiff Th<a lact T caxAr a ffrancr\Mrt1 rlonarl-mptit /'Tioz'V'nnint ^Arac -^^^»arc

“The LNP has called on Labor to take action against local boons, but nothing has been done,” Ms Jackson said.
“Labor is soft on boons, just like they’re soft on young offenders, bikies and other thugs.
“Local residents don’t want to be afraid to use the roads or have boons causing mayhem outside their homes.”
